I couldn't even wait to walk home to write this review I am so angry. I have gone to this salon for 6 years. Normally I go just for pedicures, because they don't do nail design; however, in a pinch a gel manicure is normally fine. Today, I knew it was going to be an issue from the jump. Most of the technicians are professional and precise. However, there is one woman who is older and appears to be related to the manager who simply should not be working. This woman ran the nail file over my finger skin (I asked her to stop), began clipping my cuticle beds and cut too deep (I asked her to stop) and failed to buff the nails at all. THIS IS BEFORE WE GET TO THE PAINT. She proceeds to do my gel manicure by letting the paint run into my cuticle and scraping the paint off with her fingernail. I understand this is common practice for occasional adjustments; however, she was doing this on each nail on both cuticles and the tips. Not only is the scratching uncomfortable, it also doesn't capture all of the polish. I noticed the paint left behind in the cuticles and asked her to please be more precise with the brush and not scrape my finger with her nails. There may have been a language barrier, but she ignored me. I ask AGAIN, please do not do that, this time she nods. She picks up my finger and DOES IT AGAIN!!! At this point I'm frustrated and the nails look sloppy so I ask her to stop and just soak off the polish because I'm not satisfied and i can do it at home. Keeping in mind at this point I was still planning to pay. She tells me to just wait I only need one more coat. I explain that a sloppy manicure is not valuable to me, I would prefer clean nails. She says to me "Then you pay now! It's $48 - $38 for gel $10 for soak!" I was floored, all I could say was "Excuse me". Then she says "you don't come back here". She has lost her mind, clearly. So I speak to the man at the desk who also has a language barrier. I tell him I will pay, but she has been terribly rude. He says something inaudible, but tells me not to pay anything even though I am handing him cash. It's really disappointing that s technician would try an penalize their clients for their obvious poor performance. Even more disgusting that this specific salon plays into the tired trope of Asian nail techs being both disrespectful and dismissive to their black customers. Take that nonsense elsewhere. read more

This was such a horrible experience. I went to relax and left with ruined nails. I got a pedicure first, the tech went to fix my nail and ended up gluing her glove to the bottom of my foot and then soaked my foot in acetone to get it off, she first tried to just pull it off but it really hurt my skin. She proceeded with the pedicure with the glove with the hole in it from having to rip it off my foot. After I was getting a manicure, I really should have just left but I have a work trip and needed my nails done. She completely destroyed my nails with an electric buffer, I had no gel on my nails so I have no idea why she was doing this. The last straw was she cut me so deep with the cuticle cutter I jumped up and had to leave. My nail beds hurt and I have to wear a bandaid it was bleeding so bad. Walked in a little over a week ago for a gel manicure and pedicure, with little to no expectations as I usually do when trying a new nail salon. I left very impressed! They were very accommodating and able to take me right away. The pedicure was quick but really good and came with more of a massage and callus scrub than other basic pedicures. During the manicure, my manicurist was also very attentive to the nail shape I wanted and the little shoulder massage while my top coat was drying was a great touch. Long story short, I was there for an hour before I left and after telling the woman she was hurting me multiple times. Nail technicians are great - they get the job done well except for one of them (I can't remember her name. She's the one who wears eyeglasses all the time). I would come here as a walk-in with the hopes of landing with Ginny, Ying or the other Asian nail tech. Don't bother setting an appointment because they don't really have any sense of time (speaking from experience). They tell people the wait is x minutes but they don't really keep track of who is coming in and out. My point is, expect to wait a bit when you come in. They lose two stars (I am being generous with the 4 stars I think) because I see that they don't really properly sanitize their tools (yikes!). They rinse the tools, put it in the metal tray then let it sit in the sanitizing machine for a couple of minutes. They don't put the tools in those little blue bags like you see at other nail salons. I haven't had a bad experience so far (I should probably bring my own tools, lol) such as cross contamination or tetanus or whatever. I've been coming here for almost a year and I'm still fine. Ha. If you don't mind the way they "sanitize" their tools, then you're good. They also reuse those flip flops so if you're particular about using used flip flops, I suggest you bring your own. I've come here without cash on hand and I had no issues putting tip on the credit card. $37 for mani + pedi. +$10 for callus removal. When it was time for my pedicure they did not clean the basin that was previously used by another patron. I did not observe them sterilizing equipment. The salon is big and has massage chairs, although not very good ones. We did not have an appointment and just walked in. There was no wait. We were greeted promptly. However, communication was very difficult and it took them a while to figure out what we wanted. The quality of work was poor and my manicurist has sharp nails that would dig into my skin when she held my toes and hands. The bill was outrageous and no one had told us the cost of anything until we were done. $200 for 1 gel mani and pedi with spa treatment and 1 regular mani pedi with spa treatment. I've been to Garden spa several times with mediocre results, but the last time was absolutely unacceptable. My boyfriend wanted to treat me to a mani-pedi for Valentine's Day, and we live close by so we went to Garden. The pedicure was okay but rather short (maybe 15 minutes), and I waited 20 minutes before someone was able to assist with my nails. Apparently there are only a couple technicians who know how to do acrylic nails, and none of them are good at it (more on that later). The temperature inside the salon was 61 degrees, and they refused to turn up the heat... instead bringing a small heater for myself and the customer next to me to share. By the time I left, my toes were completely numb. Miserable. The technician who did my acrylic nails somehow managed to slice my fingers with the mechanical nail file, leaving tiny cuts on the side of 4 of my fingers and several bleeding cuticles. tl;dr: a mani-pedi took over 3 hours, it was miserably cold, and after less than a week my acrylic nails are yellow and falling off. Garden Nail & Spa is a large and efficient salon on the border of Downtown Brooklyn. The service is friendly, but not too chatty, and the staff speak a range of three or four languages, which I think is awesome. They primarily offer nail services, but also have private rooms for massage, waxing, and threading. They are open until 8 pm most nights, which is a huge plus if you live but don't work nearby. The room is really large. It has a lot of faux flowers and greenery (to make it feel garden-like I suppose). It has nice big windows with natural light and soothing colors. The ventilation is set up, but the room definitely has the sweet smell of acrylic to it. I came in for a mani-pedi before a long business trip. It was $25 for a basic pedicure and $30 for a gel manicure. There was no wait at 6:30 pm on a Friday, but by the time we got to 7 pm, there was definitely a wait to be seen. My nail tech was gentle and efficient, (I'm so sorry I forgot your name! Andrea??) We started with the pedicure, which was so soothing, and comes with a paraffin heel dip which was fun and a nice touch. Both pedicure and manicure come with a mini massage, with all the lotions and exfoliants. The only hiccup was that the UV machine for the gel manicure was a little wonky, so she had to switch it out and tinker with it often. The mani pedi lasted a really long time, over both a vacation and a business trip, so I am really pleased with the quality. The polish was smooth and glossy. The gel had two tiny bubbles that nobody could see because I got a glitter like polish, but were really minor. It was also pretty quick, at about 45-50 minutes for the whole thing. The main reason I come here is for convenience. But I've been here several times for gel manicures and pedicures so a review is due. It's nothing fancy, and it may not be the most sterile-seeming experience ever, but I haven't had any bad experiences and my nails look nice afterwards and the gel lasts. Downsides: the massage chairs don't really work. A few times they ran out of the color I wanted and kept pushing this one dark red that I had already had twice. Neutral: the decor is a bit odd. Do i have a crazy story for yall...So, I have long avoided leaving a review for here because I waited too long to leave a review as my experience is all the way back in summer 2017, I know, ridiculous, but given the fact that i was literally STABBED IN THE PUSSY with some scissors here, the experience has had a long lasting effect on me, and when I saw that they are still physically harming their clients i said ok, time for that review. So in 2017 i came here for a brazilian wax, and the waxing lady decided to use some small scissors to trim my hair. However, she left the scissors on the bed near my naked body when waxing me, next thing i know i feel a way stronger jab than usual and there is blood gushing from me. While waxing me so fast and without any care towards leaving scissors on the bed, the wax strip caught the small scissors and pulled them towards me with it. I remember i was so shocked that i even tried to pay when i exited the room in a frenzy, trying to calm the waxing lady because i felt bad for her, not fully processing what her carelessness had caused me. Of course they had the sensibility to not let me pay and i rushed to an urgent care where I had to get 7 STITCHES TO THE INNER SIDE OF MY LABIA MAJORA....The doctor was so surprised i feel like if i didnt have wax all over me he wouldnt even believe me. Apparently the scissors went deep enough to almost puncture my vagina from the inside, but luckily that did not happen and with a very painful and awkward emergency visit i was ok. I couldnt walk properly for a few weeks and had to wear insane bandages that were basically diapers. I returned later to the salon to have them cover my medical fees which i remember was somewhere in the low 300s, and they immediately did, as they should, but thinking back im like that was insane and i could've sued them...seeing that they are still being careless with people's bodies makes me angry because i was severely injured by this business and could have had life altering trauma to my reproductive organs causing a need for surgery, infertility and god knows what else...PLEASE DO NOT EVER USE SCISSORS TO TRIM PUBIC HAIR!!!Professional, competent waxers can perfectly wax any length of body hair without trimming. And if you do, at least do not leave them so close to a naked person who has her legs wide open!!!! Like the carelessness is baffling to me and 6 years later, as i live close to this place i still feel triggered every time i walk past it. Very clean place. Nail techs did a great job with their work although the "massage" was more of a handshake with a fist thump at the end. My shellac nail polish lasted a week which I was pretty impressed with considering I'm a caregiver to my mother and wash my hands constantly. The price for the mani was great as well. Thrilled to have a salon downstairs from my building. It's a fairly new space with all new equipment. I've had my nails done by various girls there and have been happy with all of them. I would love it if they put some thought into the interiors and signage. Even if they did a less is more approach and got rid of the plastic multicolored pendant lights and all those artificial flowers and trees would be a huge improvement!! They could also work on getting a better sound system in there instead of the small radio they have plugged in behind the warming towels. A more updated selection of mags would be good too. The lady who did my nails today gave me dirty looks, cut me badly while doing my cuticles (and did not apologize), and then snapped at me to go wash my hands! Actually SNAPPED!
