This isn't your ordinary in/out nail salon where you hope they're sterilizing tools and keep a sanitary practice. Their focus is on using non toxic toiletries and the prices reflect it. First time customers (that would be me today) get 15% off. I chose a Lavender Pedicure which included the usual foot soak, nail trim and cuticle cutting in addition to callus removal, lavender lotions and soak and finally a 5 minute calf/foot massage. The woman who pampered my feet and brought them back to civilization did her work methodically and with precision. The salon was clean and spacious. Water or tea was offered upon arrival and there wasn't a heavy nail polish odor permeating the space. Some of their equipment such as the pumice pad were disposable while others had a careful run through the autoclave. It's often said " you pay for what you get" and I tend to agree. Went back to fix it (10/4) and then the next day (10/5) I see that many of my fingers have small chips that are most likely going to turn into big ones. To top it all off my finger is swollen, red, warm and tender!!! The tenderness began a day after on 10/3, as if from an infection. But by 10/5 my finger was swollen as if it was going to burst and 10/6 the cuticle was filled with puss. They did clip my cuticles alottttt. Like first one lady prepped my nails and clipped the cuticles but then the lady who actually applied the gel did it again before she started. So I'm pretty sure it's from that. I wanted to love this place but I'll never be back. I guess that's what I get for trying an out a spot and not sticking with my old faithful and to think I paid $85 for this service plus a tip. Update: I went back today 10/6 and was refunded. They were apologetic but I still won't be back.

For $80 I got a gel mani + regular pedi, no extras today though they did offer a variety of massages! I was in and out within about an hour, I lucked out since it was pretty empty around 3:15 today - the place was PACKED with both the walk-ins and appointments as I was heading out. The interior isn't overtly fancy like some other spots, but it felt clean and it definitely gets the job done. While I couldn't quite figure out the massage chair, I did still manage to get a semi-automatic massage while my feet were being scrubbed/polished! After my toes were done, I moved over to the manicure area. Decided to take a risk and try an oval shape today as opposed to my usual short square/squoval and it turned out a bit cattier/pointier than expected but it's all good! Now that it's been a few hours, I'm surprised at the thin-ness of the gel nails. There's 2 layers of color between the clear coats, and I've never had my nails feel this flexible with gel before (though they may have shaved off more than usual with that drill looking tool, I don't know)! This place is definitely close and convenient, and it looked like there were a lot of regulars for the regular polish manis, I guess time will tell whether I'll be back! EDITED to add: it's the next day and my fingers are throbbing from the intense filing. It definitely broke skin on multiple fingerpads - not to the point of bleeding but enough for even a hand wash to burn. Hopefully this heals up quick! :(

Normally I go just for pedicures, because they don't do nail design; however, in a pinch a gel manicure is normally fine. Today, I knew it was going to be an issue from the jump. Most of the technicians are professional and precise. However, there is one woman who is older and appears to be related to the manager who simply should not be working. This woman ran the nail file over my finger skin (I asked her to stop), began clipping my cuticle beds and cut too deep (I asked her to stop) and failed to buff the nails at all. THIS IS BEFORE WE GET TO THE PAINT. She proceeds to do my gel manicure by letting the paint run into my cuticle and scraping the paint off with her fingernail. I understand this is common practice for occasional adjustments; however, she was doing this on each nail on both cuticles and the tips. Not only is the scratching uncomfortable, it also doesn't capture all of the polish. I noticed the paint left behind in the cuticles and asked her to please be more precise with the brush and not scrape my finger with her nails. There may have been a language barrier, but she ignored me. I ask AGAIN, please do not do that, this time she nods. She picks up my finger and DOES IT AGAIN!!! At this point I'm frustrated and the nails look sloppy so I ask her to stop and just soak off the polish because I'm not satisfied and i can do it at home. Keeping in mind at this point I was still planning to pay. She tells me to just wait I only need one more coat. I explain that a sloppy manicure is not valuable to me, I would prefer clean nails. She says to me "Then you pay now! It's $48 - $38 for gel $10 for soak!" I was floored, all I could say was "Excuse me". Then she says "you don't come back here". She has lost her mind, clearly. So I speak to the man at the desk who also has a language barrier. I tell him I will pay, but she has been terribly rude. He says something inaudible, but tells me not to pay anything even though I am handing him cash. It's really disappointing that s technician would try an penalize their clients for their obvious poor performance. Even more disgusting that this specific salon plays into the tired trope of Asian nail techs being both disrespectful and dismissive to their black customers. Take that nonsense elsewhere.

It's a bit more expensive, but it's worth it for a non-toxic gel manicure that lasts a long time. Additionally, they are one of the few places where they don't have those unhygienic pedicure tubs with jets. Each client gets a separate tub they bring out from the back, so not weird plastic lining or water gets full bacteria and fungus.

No biggie. The space was clean and spacious with plexiglass separating the pedicure station among other Covid safe protocols. I liked the variety of nail color brands such as Butter and Deborah Lippman. Typically, Essie and OPI are the only choices. The pedicure station didn't have running sinks. Instead, a basin of water was brought to the chair. The water in my basin was so shallow that my feet were sticking out. The technician had to add several more cups of water from the sink to the basin. The basic pedicure at $33 was no different than the average nail salons I've been to. The technician seemed to rush and I had to point out a couple missteps to her. Once she was done, a fan was brought over to air dry the toes. I got impatient and left after 10 minutes. Since the technician disappeared, I went to the front desk to pay. I was disappointed. (BTW, I inadvertently checked in to the another business with similar name in Fort Greene, but this review is for the one I visited). I doubt I'll return.
