Came here for an under arm hair removal session. My provider Leena and she was excellent. Leena was sweet, informative and honest the best thing when receiving any treatment. The place was clean and bright. The receptionist is the first thing you see walking in. There isn't much of a waiting area but I didn't have to wait long so it was ok. Listen, eyebrows are important and to find a skilled threader is a full-time job. In need of a *proper* thread session, I made a 6:45pm appointment with Shobha on Thursday, Apr. 13. I figured I'd drive over there after work and it'd give me enough time to find parking in Williamsburg, a neighborhood known for its parking shortage. I arrived early and parked a few blocks down as Berry Street was closed off (Open Streets initiative). Once I got onto Berry Street and 4th St, it was quite difficult to find Shobha. It's further down the block than what the GPS kept directing me to -- the first door on the corner. Shobha is at least 3-4 businesses inside the block, obscured by scaffolding. I would advise that Shobha place a sandwich board on the corner of 4th Street because it can get lost in all of that is happening on Berry Street and 4th Street. From the 4th St corner, you can see the large signage of Laser Away, which is located across from Shobha. You get my point. Shobha is clean and bright. I love the bright orange throughout and how spacious the location is. There isn't much of a seating area but considering there are several stations, you won't have to wait long to be serviced. I blindly booked with Rashmita and she was affable from the onset. I liked her brows and I thought I was in good hands. Rashmita talked me through the pain and gave me plenty of breaks as she threaded, which I greatly appreciated. I hadn't threaded my brows in a month; I swear I'm a lot tougher LOL. Anyway, I absolutely loved the finish product. A cool towel was placed atop my forehead and that was calming. I will say the cost for eyebrows threading is steep but I suppose the area plays a role in that. (Translation: the rent is high). Nonetheless, Shobha might be worth the splurge. I really enjoyed my visit to Shobha. Their website is easy to follow and book an appointment. After reading tons of Yelp and Google reviews I decided to book with Davinder and I have no regrets. She was so kind, walked me through th whole process and even follows up with after care instructions. She made me feel validated and comforted. I originally booked an underarm waxing appointment, but Davinder suggested sugaring. It was my first time and I'd definitely do it again. Loved how she walked me through the pros and cons of both and didn't make me feel pressured into doing sugaring. Once finished she threaded the straggling hairs and applied a cream. The salon itself is really nice and check-in/check out was a breeze. I love that they have venmo codes displayed if you forget to bring cash for a tip. Excited to come back. This is the best place by far to get your threading done in Williamsburg! I am really impressed with how clean and professional they are. Very easy to schedule. Check out their package discounts and they also do discounts for students as well, which I appreciate. We got a series of laser hair removal in a private area. The tech was very nice. But we didn't like that we had to be completely nude on the bottom to do the laser. They should have some kind of modesty paper. Secondly, after spending a very pretty penny, and over 8 sessions. Especially with the ceiling totally open and exposed it felt weird. The laser didn't work at all. Not at all. We ended up ordering a personal laser on Amazon that did the trick. A total waste of money. They need to invest in new tech and get some disposable modesty coverings. read more

Krystal at the front desk got us checked in and She was so incredibly professional and friendly. I had Anju for my appt. She was, by far, the best wax aesthetician I have ever experienced. I got a sugar wax Brazilian, and I can tell you right now That is my choice for summer! It was my first time so she walked me through, made me super comfortable and worked efficiently, checking with me to make sure that I was doing OK! She was fantastic. Also, ask for the Cortizone application and it will make your experience even better. I was in and out of there before I even knew what was happening. Thank you Anju for taking great care of me! The service itself was good, but a rude comment made by the brow specialist really put me off. This was my second time at Shoba Brooklyn. Loved my first experience here, but since the specialist I saw the first time had switched locations, I made an appointment with another specialist to get my brows threaded. The specialist (who I still don't wish to out by name) did a good job with my brows. So when she was finished, I told her they looked amazing and thanked her for her work. As I was standing up, she bluntly told me "your eye brow pencil is too dark. You need a lighter one. They look fake." Well ok. Even if that was her opinion, I did not ask for advice about brow color. I was coming from work and wearing a full face of makeup, so it was pretty clear I wasn't going for a natural look. I was there to receive a hair removal service, not a consultation. The specialist's words really caught me off guard, but since she did a decent job, I for some reason thanked her for her advice and we parted ways. It's a shame the specialist chose to end our appointment on a negative note, because I would've returned to Shoba next month for a touch up if she hadn't been so curt. The receptionist was kind and the actual work done was fine, but I can't get past the rudeness. I'd love to support a local business, but for now I'll be returning to the Benefit Brow Bar. read more

Whoa! Wow! My first visit for a pre vacation Brazilian I was admittedly nervous and apprehensive. From the moment I stepped in the door I was greeted with immense warmth and kindness. I felt immediately at ease. They check temps and encourage hand washing. Then it's right into the service. As you can imagine being that vulnerable is not easy especially for a first timer but my technician had me laughing, relaxing and comfortable in a matter of minutes. She explained everything every step of the way and encouraged me. She provided amazing post care tips and I eagerly bought a service package so I can return as directed. Then the woman at the front desk let's just call her pure sunshine (that's not her name lol) but she is so incredibly joyous, kind and she explains add on products and services like she's wishing you a happy birthday! Other 3 times have been just okay (left with a ton of ingrowns, was painful, getting comments and giggles about how coarse my hair is) because I forgot who I had the first time. Davinder looked critically at my brows when I told her I wanted around the same shape I already had, just cleaned up, and I wanted it to look "natural." She pursed her lips and looked appraisingly at me. "It's shaped wrong, isn't it?" I asked. "Your brows are round, and your face is round," she replied. "So I want my brows to be more angled?" (I've read the fashion magazines, I know what this means). She smiled at me the way your cool aunt does when she's about to show you how you've been wearing the wrong bra size the whole time, clandestine and "you're about to glow up real hard." Or that's what I imagine it would look like, never having had a cool aunt who's showed me anything about bras. Then Davinder flourished the drape and twirled the chair like a fairy god-aunt and off we were. She chided me for plucking my brows. "That's why there's all these in-grown brow hairs, it doesn't get it from the root." I joked "Are you saying I should get them threaded more often?" but she didn't reply. Davinder doesn't waste words for the obvious answers. I emerged with beautiful brows. It's not going to stop me from plucking (it's just so satisfying), but it does mean that I will definitely also get them threaded, because I need a cool aunt who's going to teach me about brows and bras. read more

I really like sugar waxing with Davinder at the Williamsburg location in Brooklyn. She is quick yet gentle and has a great demeanor. She was accommodating to my pregnant condition being even more gentle and careful. The only reason why I didn't give a 5 star to Shobha Brooklyn location is because every single time I go, I have to wait over a long time to get check in because the person at Front Desk is hard at up-selling every single customer who is checking out. I've actually had to wait over 15 minutes to check in because she was taking her sweet time trying to convince a woman to buy a package. Not knocking her doing her job, but then I would recommend they put 2 people at front desk or have some type of digital self-check in process. read more

I have been to many studios and this has probably been my favorite experience. Davinder was super friendly and made the experience very pleasant. There was minimum pain and I was done very quickly. The facility is also very clean and those who work at the front desk are also very nice. Then, after all that, when I showed up for my appointment they told me no one was available to provide the service. The receptionist was polite and apologized profusely. Visited Shobha for the first time, courtesy of Yelp. Customer service was on point with minimal wait. For waxing services, they lead you to a private and semi spacious room. The technician I had was friendly and attentive, asking now and then whether the wax she was using was too hot. Temperature was perfect and she was very thorough. Shobha staff are also very sanitary as they dispose of each stick after each use. Location is fairly close to home so i would definitely come back in the future. read more

Clean, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing. The rooms for waxing/sugaring smelled great, like they used some type of aromatherapy or candles so that it's a calming atmosphere- good prep for the pain to come! The music they played was also great which is a good second distraction. The staff is clearly very knowledgeable and the woman who did my Brazilian told me all about their sanitation practices and why she did certain things, giving me recommendations and tips. They are also great salespeople because she basically convinced me in minutes that I needed to come back to her every few weeks- props. I religiously came to Shobha to see Bela, who is no longer with the company. I had full faith in Shobha, their training and company ethos...etc. The north 4th location is always empty, which I attributed to growing pains. Fast forward 1.5 years, and I encountered the new "Shobha". I had my service, recommended by front of house, by Anju. Anju was incredibly rough (mind you, I have had my eyebrows threaded every four weeks since I was 15). Left bleeding, and the entire process was unbelievably painful. There is a huge hole in my brow, when I told her to leave them full. She sugared my upper lip, and went over my lip twice. Any waxer would advise otherwise. I have two welts over my lip because of the skin trauma. I'm so disappointed with this service. *twelve hours later have broken into rash on upper lip where she double waxed.
