This was the most painful brazilian wax I have ever had. Instead of doing a small amount of big strips, she did a hundred small strips. Going over the same area multiple times and now my cooch is swollen. Additionally, this was the most uncomfortable wax experience because the table is against the wall and just behind a curtain. I couldn't even put my knees down all the way. They were nice and I can't speak to their eyebrow services but I don't recommend getting a brazilian. read more

This is the only place I can get a Brazilian in NYC. Navi was always sweet and she always made me feel comfortable. Unfortunately, she left. :( I miss you Navi!! I couldn't get an appointment with the other girl so I tried boom boom brow bar nearby, DON'T DO IT and it was torture! It was so bad and painful that I left in the middle of it. After that, I made an appointment at Maya Salon with the girl replacing Navi and she is also great! Tried to walk in for an eyebrow threading and the woman there informed me in a nasty tone that she wouldn't be available to do my eyebrows for another 40 minutes. I asked if there was another person available (as there is usually more than one person working) and she curtly said no and half-heartedly apologized. This is not the first time the staff has been outright rude to me here despite my pleasant greetings to them when I arrive. Eyebrow threading only: I never loved my eyebrows when leaving. With that, I didn't hate them either. The place is teeny and I wouldn't say the most stylish spot, but it's SUPER cheap and the ladies are always kind. The ladies at Maya are a godsend. Fast, cheap, and most important of all, PAINLESS (or as painless as it can be for a wimp like me) threading. $8 for eyebrow threading, $6 for upper lip. I've tried other places in the Village and Maya's stylists are the most gentle and meticulous, and the most cost effective. It's also really nice that they massage the aloe/lotion into your brows as the last step and the last lady I saw even gave me a nice little temple massage. $8 for eyebrow threading is a great deal to me! Just be aware that the credit card minimum is $10. I am not sure if they will include your tip with that- so it is best to bring cash with you. It's a basic and clean place. No frills, but they will get you done quickly and well. Providing an update: For obvious reasons I cannot post photos showing how horrible my brazilian wax was but I will go ahead and describe it as best as possible so you all understand the nature of this issue. KEEP IN MIND I have gotten a brazilian wax before, this was not the first time. I was in pain (actual pain) for 12 hours. It hurt to walk. When I got home I checked the area and it looked like I had been BURNED. The redness was beyond anything I've ever seen before. I understand that the area should be red after a wax but 12 hours later?? To the point that it looks like I got a sunburn? Unbelievable. Today I checked the area and luckily the redness was gone but I was PEELING. Again, almost as if I was sunburned, first redness and pain then peeling. I am in absolute awe of this experience. I'd never had a Brazilian before and felt it was time. I considered going to Bliss but realistically I can not pay $70 every month. I went to Maya because of the stellar reviews. I was not disappointed. The salon is super tiny but who cares? It's clean and they don't use that nasty, heated wax pot where you double dip and use the same wax on each customer. Jyoti is pleasant and efficient. She got all of the hair off and it wasn't unduly painful. I like to take Yelp recommendations with a grain of salt, however everyone is spot on about Navi. She's a great waxer and a total sweetheart! I'm usually not a talker during brazilians because I'm concentrating on not yelling to God for mercy, but Navi's naturally warm self had me holding a conversation. Before I knew it the wax was done! The space is tiny, so if you're looking for something fancy this isn't for you. But if you're looking for a clean place with a great price point and service then you've found it. I had bought the Groupon last night after having read the reviews on yelp. I called today to make an appointment and as soon as I got their they were friendly and serviced me quickly. This was my first time doing a Brazilian wax. A woman named Judy did my wax; she was friendly, gentle, never double dipped in the wax, and put me at ease. It is a small space and the area where she did my waxing was separated by a thick curtain. I would recommend this place to anyone who would like to try waxing. read more

I don't like writing bad reviews and usually just say nothing after bad service but for purposes of improving this business, I would advise not to leave the client in the chair mid-service not just once but twice to take a personal call then eat birthday cake with a friend who walks in and then forget where you left off on the client's eyebrows. The waxer was very pleasant, she didn't get annoyed with me for squirming or yelping from the slight pinch of the strips. She was very clean, went through about 30 waxing sticks. Over a year ago I was referred to this salon by a friend of mine. Oddly enough, Navi makes my monthly waxing and threading experience one to look forward to. The staff are all very nice and respectful and I've never had any issues with my appointments.
