I've been coming to Mimi's for over a year now for color gel, SNS, and LCN, and the salon definitely has a loyal following of both locals and visitors. While I usually don't write reviews, I thought it might be helpful to share a recent experience especially for anyone new to Mimi's. On my last visit, I felt a bit of pressure from the owners to keep my nails polished and add color, even though I was hoping to just take a break. Mimi's husband brought up the quality of LCN, and what started as casual chat felt more like a sales pitch. My nails sometimes feel a little weak after removal, so I wanted to skip polish this time (plus, I was excited to get back to boxing!). The removal was $15 and included cutting, filing, shaping, buffing, and cuticle oil. Adding polish would've been another $15, with basic manicures starting at $15. I opted out of polish and will keep it clear at home. I know Mimi's salon has many happy customers and that the owners work hard to keep everyone happy. At the same time, it would be great if they were a bit more understanding when a regular customer wants something simple and low-key especially after being loyal for so long. Mimi did check in with me afterward, which I really appreciated. Overall, I like Mimi's and hope that next time feels a little more relaxed. I have been going to Mimi's Nail and Spa for years!!! I remember the 1st time I went, she made me feel so welcomed and she did an amazing job on my nails and eyebrows. She is very professional, friendly, and always does her job with precision and pays special attention to details. Sometimes, I go in the salon and I'm not sure of what color I want, or what style I want. Mimi would bring out the most beautiful colors and the design she creates on my nails are awesome. They do a bad job with gel. I had air bubbles under the nail. The wax they use for eyebrows is too hot. They burned the skin around my eyebrows and made it way too thin. Very bad. read more

I went in during lunch after reading the Yelp reviews. I won't be going back. It's like any other nail salon, very much factory like, shuffling people in and out. It was dirtier than most salons I've been to. I got the gel manicure and the older, very sweet man cut and filed my nails. But he did a poor job so the next woman had to recut the cuticles and refile the nails. I couldn't pick out the polish for myself; instead she asked what color and I told her blue-grey and she pulled out a bottle. The application of the polish was sloppy, not the usual pulling up motion, she went up, down and even sideways. The result is blotchy, bumpy nail polish with the sides showing. (Oh and she got polish on my fingers, too.) At the end, she introduced herself as Mimi and told me to come back for my pedicure. After inspecting her work in daylight, I will never return. I started off with Mimi doing my nails but somehow switched to Tanya and Michelle! Michelle is so sweet! And really gets to know her customers, she does really good pedicures sometimes you have to remind her to slow down cause she gets overwhelmed but other than that she's great. Tanya! Love her, she does my nails all the time no matter what now. "She gets it" lol, I usually show her a style of what I want to my nails and she does it great!! I recommend not going on a Friday or Saturday.. I'm not sure about the appointment situation but I have been there and overhead a couple of problems about nail techs not respecting their customers appointment time. When I first moved to Brooklyn a few years ago I was looking for a new place to get my nails done. On a whim one afternoon I went into Mimi's Nails and I have been going back ever since. This has become my go to nail spot in Brooklyn. I started off with very short and unattractive nails, then I met Tanya. I highly recommend Tanya. People in this place truly care about you and if your satisfied. It's also a family business. Tanya, Michelle, Mimi and David have grown to be my second family in Brooklyn. They also have many long standing customers that have been getting nails done at this place for years. Mimi's nails was recently remodeled so its nice and clean. Since working downtown Brooklyn you can't find much decent nail salons but I actually came here a few times and quite enjoyed the service here. Friendly staff and wait time is not bad I always call ahead to make sure they have room. I get Charlie to do my nails he's patient and super careful. I think I read reviews for the wrong Mimi's before coming here. I called ahead of time to see if they had the dip powder which they do. I arrived at a good time and was seated right away. They soaked my previous powder off using the acetone, which is fine but takes longer then just buffing it off with the drill. Once I finished soaking (in what looked like a dirty bowl) the man doing my nails dumped the extra acetone right back into the bottle. I really wanted to leave at that point but I figured things might get better, they did not. There were very limited dip powder colors to pick fro which was a upsetting. I finally picked what I thought was a purple color but it came out very grey (not good for the summer). The entire process of getting my nails done took over an hour and a half, I ended up with a bad color, brush strokes all over my nails and somehow was given three gel top coats instead of the one dip powder top coat. The woman who finished my nails covered them in an oil to finish, I am not assuming so I could not see how many brush strokes were left. I am also used to paying $35 for dip powder, here charges $45. My reliable Yelpers led me here before I went on my birthday vacation and, unfortunately, I would have been more satisfied saving the $60 I spent here for my regular nail salon near my neighborhood. I was in a hurry after class to get my nails done and to my surprise on a Wednesday, the place only had a few customers. The woman who began my pedicure was very nice but soon proved to be too eager for my liking. One star taken away once this woman (I do not know her name but her sister did the flower design on my toes beautifully and laid the foundation on my acrylic nails) was trying to tell me how to do my nails beyond a professional suggestion. First, I picked out the color I wanted but noticed the bottle was almost empty. I asked the woman specifically if she had another EXACT bottle, not a similar color, and she stated she did. Second, I get comfortable in my chair and as I am talking with my friend who accompanied me, the woman tried to suggest a completely different color than the one I requested (not even the same shade or a pretty color at that)! I kindly told her if she did not have the color, I will pick out another. But no Yelpers, my gung-ho technician insisted that she can find the exact color I wanted and I should not worry. So, I relaxed and pictured the palm trees that I would soon see on my vacation, and after daydreaming for two minutes, I noticed that the woman was placing a shade darker than the one I originally chose and trust me, there was a BLATANT difference between the two colors (one was dark fuschia and the original was a light, purple-ish lavender). I could have blown a fuse but calmly, yet sternly, told the woman this is not the color I chose and I would like it if she did not just placed any color she wanted on my toes without consulting me. Other customers noticed the stunt she tried to pull as well as her co-workers. Another star was taken away due to the lack of communication concerning pricing. The woman wanted to charge me for scraping my heel (no special oils or tools used)! Is that not what I pay for when asking for a pedicure? Thankfully, the woman's sister saved the day by providing me with lovely designs on my big toes. All in all, you can receive better service and avoid the trickery somewhere else. I will not be returning here. P.S. The woman tried to also sell me cuticle oils and convince me to come back in two weeks, gosh, I realize I do not appreciate pushy people. I've only gotten waxes and manicures but I live a few blocks away and already know I'm going back in 2 weeks. Please DON'T expect a fancy salon... This is NOT that. This is an around-the-way kinda nail place. Most of the staff is friendly. They don't make awkward conversation with you as they do your nails but they are super friendly and are definitely chatty. My first experience there, I got an eyebrow wax and a regular manicure. I think it came to about $11...for BOTH! I was pleased with the quality (and price) of both. I went back a few days ago and got my eyebrows and lip waxed and once again, I was pleased with the results. I also got an OPI gel mani (my 1st ever!) and it was great. Oh...and it was only $20 as opposed to the $40 that everyone else charges. I did have to go back because one of my hands didn't dry shiny enough (sounds crazy, but the everlasting shine is part of the reason you get gel manis!) but they apologized profusely and made sure my nails were shiny before I left the 2nd time. She was soo rough.....After 3 weeks I decided to visit again. Was looking for a place with good prices, but better quality than the few places on Livingston st which have so many customers playing music and yelling back and forth to each other I couldn't take. Mimi's was busy, but quiet in a good way. Tanya did my manicure and pedicure and did a good job but tickled my feet so badly! We laughed together about it. My nails came out nice, but a little bit of nail polish on my skin that I had to scratch off when I left. I'd go back for the prices alone. And to everyone that judges a place by when their nails chip (which is completely unrelated to the woman who paints your nails!! How dumb to rate based on this!!), it's been 5 days and no chips. Got a regular manicure for 2/3 the price it would be in the city + gels on 2 split nails. Decent results; the gels are gorgeous, but polish application wasn't great - got some polish on my cuticles and the surface isn't smooth. I'm docking 2 stars because they don't keep their tools in autoclave pouches and don't use new files for each client. Those are major no-nos for me, so I won't be back. read more

I had the worse experience by far, visiting this nail shop. I wanted a simple gel overlay but left with crazy shaped nails and extra residue from the gel around my nails.
