This place has been around for a while and it seems to be holding up pretty well. Even now with the closures and the situation at hand there's still some sense of loyalty to the brand. They have Korean rice balls which are sushi like in design but slightly different. Each ball is stuffed with a protein of choice. We had the shrimp, crab meat and shocked curry balls and then the spicy tuna roll. All the ingredients were fresh and the rice was perfectly cooked. Not your traditional white rice but sushi style sticky rice. The crab meat ball is the same flavor profile of a California roll. The ball os fresh and delicious! But the shrimp ball is what was the star along with the spicy tuna roll. They also have a spicy mayo sauce that complaints all the rolls perfectly. We tried the beef rice ball which is rib eye and Korean bulgogi sauce. This was just okay. Not great. I believe the meat was ribeye since it had some ligament and some fat. However, not overly fatty. The rice is layered over with seaweed wrapper and the edges topped with more crushed seaweed. We also tried the spicy shrimp rice ball which we liked a bit more. So tasty! I loved the unagi rice ball and my boyfriend loved his spicy pork rice ball. When you get it to takeout they package the seaweed separate so it's still crispy when you put it together and eat it later! And I ask a cashier if any of those balls contain sesame seeds and he said all of them. Overall, this is a unique and nice idea for rice balls to go. All the rice balls I got were chocked full of toppings and incredibly flavorful, but let's break it down a little more: Salmon: It's nice; it's not ultra flavorful like the bulgogi/pork, but it was just right. The salmon was paired with just the right amount of teri and it made for a very yummy, yet "clean" feeling morsel. Bulgogi: I was ravenous when I took a bite of this, but the nice soft beef with the warm rice just made everything right in the world. I had messy hands as I inhaled this rice ball, but it was totally worth it. Spicy Pork: This definitely had a nice kick to it, but I found it sliiiiightly too salty. However, pork was flavorful and it made the rice ball very easy to eat. Cali Roll: For $2.50, this was totally worth every bite. I probably could've eaten 3 of these no problem--it's everything you'd want in a cali roll. Spam musubi: I wish this came a little warmer, but it was cold by the time I got to it. At first glance, I was worried that there would be too much rice to spam, but upon a giant bite, I realized that it was actually just right. This is a very "hefty" spam musubi, with each giant bite of rice pleasantly enhanced by the spam musubi and slight sweetness of egg. I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. My friend also got the three ball combo which I tried - tuna n some other things. I've had exponentially tastier balls from food trucks -- why are all of the fillings so darn sweet!?. Bleghh we were told that the balls cant be made w brown rice so not sure why it's on their menu but who cares when the insides are yucky. After all, it's what inside that counts. I love eating rice balls and Gam Tu Bop has one of the best tasting rice balls. Not only they are delicious but very affordable. It's perfect for a quick lunch or dinner. They are made to order, fresh and served warmed. Slightly shaped like a triangle, it's sandwich between two pieces of dry nori and seasoned with furikaki, bits of nori and sesame. Amazing texture and flavor. I ordered the beef and unagi rice ball. The beef was good and really tasty. The Unagi was delicious as well and same flavor profile as traditional unagi sushi, but better. The rice balls cost around $3 and portions were filling. They have over a dozen different type of rice balls, including traditional rice rolls and rice plates. So not your one trick pony kind of establishment. Though the place is small, it's charming and clean. Helpful and friendly staff too. I never have written a bad review, or any review, but i cannot believe the experience I just had. The guy who makes the rice balls in the back who i think might be the owner or manager, rudest person ive encountered. I have been in the hospitality business for over 13 years and by far this is the worst experience i have had at any food establishment. Obviously this is not a fine dining restaurant but I have gotten better service at a taco stand. Story: I ordered some rice balls friday evening around 515pm. It was my first time there, so I wasnt sure about timing for orders. I was running late for work so I had only about 10 minutes to wait. After about 8 minutes, I asked the girl at the cash register how much longer it will take because i was running late. She said due to all the to-go and online orders, it will take more than 25 minutes. I told the girl at the front that i will have to leave but will try to send someone to pick up the order. After realizing that nobody including myself was able to come, i called in and let her know that I might be later than expected. Long story short i didnt end up picking up the order. I just stopped in this afternoon with the receipt of the order and explained to the girls at the front (one of which was my cashier the night before) about what happened, and politely asked them if I may receive my order this time around. The guy in the back who makes the rice balls or could possibly be the manager, declined this request, and proceeded to walk out from the kitchen to the front where i was and was extremely condescending, rude, and dismissive. He proceeded to call me a liar and saying that I was unreasonable and rude. He even said its my fault for thinking that 10 rice balls will take 10 minutes to make. He blamed me and said that i didnt care and that i just forgot. However i mentioned to him that i called in that same night and let the girl who helped me know, what the situation was. The girls at the front were very sweet and accommodating, but that guy in the back who runs the place was a complete @*$h*l3!! He said that i was being disrespectful and proceeded to raise his voice and said that i was trespassing and told me leave. He said, and I quote, "get out of here my guy, you are trespassing." He called me "my guy". Real mature. He raised his voice and had ZERO concern for any customer service or concern. He treated me like like an outcast. Now good thing for me is i know how to keep my composure. Im sorry but telling a customer in a rude and disrespecrful tone: "its your fault my guy" and "you shouldve thought about that" and "you are a liar" and telling me to leave because im trespassing. What a shame. He said that i disrespected the workers at the front cashier. I could not have been more polite and respectful and kind. The girls even looked confused like what the hell is he talking about? Such a shame. I will NEVER EVER EVER give them my business again. I have many friends who order from here and I will tell them my experience also. This moron didnt even try to help me or give me service. Im not mad about not fulfilling my request, but rather the way i was treated. I wouldnt have minded paying maybe a discounted rate or something to have them remake it since i never grabbed my food. I even put a few bucks in their tip jar. I was completely nice and reasonable and that idiot treated me with such disrespect. He said that i was a liar for saying that i waited a long time. The rice balls might have gotten a little smaller BUT the quality hasn't changed and they still give much more stuffing than other places I've experienced thus far. For example, brought a salmon rice ball home and a family member tried it. He said "this is a really good rice to stuffing ratio". I agree! Usually there's too much rice and not enough stuffing. My favorite is still the salmon. I tried the California rice ball with mayo and surimi (imitation crab), and unfortunately for me being a mayo lover there was way too much mayo in the mix for me.
