Selected the crispy chicken at happy hour for $18. Asked about the size of the portion. Server indicated there were two large tenders. I was a bit skeptical. Then it came! Two tenders slightly bigger than the average thumb. What a joke. Total rip off. Did they run out of chicken? Are they out to maximize their profit at guests expense? Gallatin River Lodge has been on my list of places to have dinner for a while and I'm glad we finally stopped in. The Gallatin River Lodge was our "treat yourself" date (cue Tom for Parks & Rec). The view from the dining area was beautiful and the staff were incredibly friendly. Since we basically left the restaurant barely able to walk from the food we ate, I'll break down each dosh and our personal opinions: + Crispy Bone Marrow Nuggets - Get it! I'm a huge bone marrow fan and the chef's spin on the delicious app was delicious. Served with toasted bread, stone mustard, fig preserves, and an arugula salsa verde, this dish is a must-have in my opinion. + Happy Hour Lobster Roll - let's be honest, quality seafood can be hard to come by in our landlocked state but this roll was delicious. It's a small sandwich but it packs a good amount of lobster meat for its size. + Duck Duck Goose - my husband thoroughly enjoyed his dish, except maybe the goose confit but that's definitely an acquired taste. The duck breast had a nice, crispy skin and the potatoes were a great compliment. + Lobster Fettuccine - obviously, I wanted lobster this evening! Admittedly, not my favorite dish. The creme sauce was bland and rich at the same time, I know...kind of a weird statement. The smoked trout roe added a much needed saltiness but overall the dish was too fishy for me (and I love fish)! + Beignets - not your typical "Louisiana-style" beignets. These were more like a dense, deep fried donut hole. Actually, they reminded me of Portuguese donuts (andagi) a bit. Regardless, it was tasty. Especially for my husband's sweet tooth. + Creme brûlée - I'd like to say we were an anomaly here because the sugar on our creme brûlée was burnt and before you say, "well yeah, it's supposed to be"...I mean it tasted and smelled like burnt sugar you can't come back from. The custard itself was delicious but I couldn't get past the taste of what I can only describe as a burnt marshmallow that should've been left to disappear into your campfire. Oh, and our drinks were good too! I'm not typically a light weight when it comes to handling my alcohol but that Montana Mule came with a heavy pour, if you know what I mean. My husband was a big fan of the hot apple cider. We had a great night at Gallatin River Lodge! The restaurant has a very laid back and cozy vibe so I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a quick dinner. But, if you want to enjoy a nice dinner with someone you love while taking in the beauty of Montana, stop on in! read more

This is going to sound very familiar to J.B.'s almost identical review dates July 10, 2025. We had dinner at Gallatin River Lodge on July 9th and had a similar negative experience. We 8 locals were seated at the same table which was positioned under a blasting A/C that was freezing out a couple of our elderly friends (even while wearing a Goretex windbreaker . The manager was called and he was very condescending about not being able to change the frigid setting or relocate us away from the icebox. The food was very skimpy, including the bison entree having 4 French fries. Although our server Shelby was quite polite and very accommodating I can't say the same for the male manager. It may be a 'top fly fishing lodge' but our group won't be recommending it to anyone we know. read more

We were unable to eat at the lodge during our stay as the kitchen was closed. Unfortunately I can't enthusiastically recommend the lodge at the current price point. While the location is lovely, over $600 for a room feels exorbitant with no food available on site. We heard from people all over Bozeman that the food is supposed to be great, but without being able to try it, I really can't say. Supposedly this has been resolved now, so perhaps you'll have no issues. Our room was in the second building, first floor and had a nice view of the pond. The in-room air conditioner is quite loud so ideally, visit when you don't need to use it. Enjoyed seeing the wild turkeys and white tailed deer on site and by the road on the way in. read more

The food is incredible- and Paul makes THE BEST pancakes EVER!!! This is a great place for a couple - very romantic. There were two slight negatives- one was the flies in the dining room. I get it - you're in the country - but...Yikes! The other - make sure you understand that you're not exactly ON the Gallatin River. It's a bit away... you can't see it from your window. read more

Eight of us who live in the area went out to dinner for a celebration of friends on a very warm summer night. We were seated at a table situated between a computer screen and a large cabinet, so there was a fair amount of staff traffic coming and going very close to us. We were also seated directly below the AC blasting cold air on us. After ordering drinks, we asked the manager to turn down the AC as it was extremely uncomfortable for all of us. He said he couldn't because that would make it uncomfortable for the other guests. We asked to be moved, and he said there were no other tables. We should have left at this point but decided to stick it out. The service was good, but food portions were small. Two friends ordered the bison steak that came with 4 french fries! The shrimp on the grits were small. We were putting on our light jackets to eat while literally shivering. Honestly, we couldn't wait to leave. There is no way this table should be used in this high-end restaurant! This place has lost the business of 8 locals and gained word-of-mouth reviews of our unacceptable experience to our foodie friends. read more

I recently visited my sister and she took me to Gallatin River Lodge. Seriously one of the best meals I have had in a very long time. I had the Halibut but my brother in law shared his Sweet Potato Gnocchi. Perfect and delicious. The staff were so polite and attentive and I just loved this place. We stayed at the Lodge for three nights in September and highly recommend it if you're heading to the Bozeman area and would like a nice place to stay with good food and an amazing staff. The grounds are serene and offer great views, and the two Lodge buildings are very well maintained. I believe there are only twelve rooms (or 15?), which was great: we never felt crowded or annoyed by sound. My only "issue" is there's no gym, but fingers crossed they build a good one adjacent to the hotel. The food is apparently really good (friends staying at the hotel spoke highly of it), but we only ate there during a wedding so don't have much info (the wedding food was good, but can't judge a chef and kitchen team by a wedding). We were told by several people that the dishes are fit for foodies. I can say that the coffee was good and there was plenty of it in the morning (thank you!). The staff were better than the views (sorry, Montana) and the main reason for the five stars. Overall, they rose above any Four Seasons or Ritz in which we've stayed around the world. Attentive and connected to the guests without being obsequious, and genuinely fun to hang out with and talk. Management: please don't let it change! We'll be back, and hoping to bring a group of friends. read more

Stayed at the lodge overnight this week, a pit stop from Big Sky to the airport. Wish we actually stayed one or two more nights as it was just such a relaxing place. We checked in around 3:30pm, and this nice lady at the desk helped us with our luggage up. Note that this is set up like a house/B&B - only stairs and no elevators! If this will be a problem for you or you cannot walk up the steps with your luggage, this may not be the right place for you! The room is cozy and looks like a room in a friend or family member's house. The bath area is a little bit weird and outdated, probably original from the 80s. It would be nice if they could enclose the shower or at least put a rod with curtain. We did get to use the whirlpool tub to relax. The bed and sheets were so comfy and soft. The contrast was made very obvious as our bed at The Summit in Big Sky was not comfy at all. Wr had dinner at the downstairs restaurant, which was super convenient. Food was solid and not that expensive, and the service was great (maybe because we were the only guests at 5pm!). The next day, one of the staffers made two trips to the airport for us, which was super nice. They were all so helpful and friendly. Would love to come back one day! read more

Hands down, the most poorly run restaurant I have ever been to. The staff did their best but without anyone steering the ship, it was an absolute disaster. Bartender and servers answering phones, taking reservations, greeting guests, etc... all while trying to do their own jobs. Complete joke. The clam chowder was great! The tasteless, skinny little rib eye looked like we were eating at Sizzlers. And for $46.00, it would behoove them to put some effort into the presentation with potatoes and creamy (sans cream) spinach. I'm not cheap and happy to pay for good food. Love this place! Menu changes frequently, so hard to recommend a particular dish, but the filet mignon and duck were my favorites. Although this is not our first visit, it has been a while. We're here for holidays with our family but a full house on Christmas is too much work, so, we are down the road here at the Lodge. It is quiet. Temps have moderated from -40F to 48F in 3 days (not a typo). It's a heavenly place down by the river. Quiet. Gracious. We spent the late evening having dinner here and I had no real great expectation. Wrong! OMG. We tried six different dishes. Soup. Salad. Appetizers. Entrees. Cocktails. Each wax more glorious than the last. What a joy. What a gift to ourselves this holiday. Went to the Gallatin River Lodge restaurant after reading all of the good reviews. The setting and restaurant itself is beautiful. We were disappointed in the food and the service. Started with the fried avocado with Brussels sprouts, which was good. Server never brought my salad out. I had the bison New York strip steak, which was supposed to be medium rare but was medium well and not good at all. My wife had the trout with tomato & cucumber salad and disliked the salad, which didn't have any flavor. We had ordered a glass of white & red wine prior to our main courses coming out. We never received either until after we were finished with meal and I mentioned that we don't want them now. Waitress would have known we didn't get our wine if she ever came to check on us. We were out of water too. Kids burger & fries was good. We have been traveling in Jackson Hole, West Yellowstone and Bozeman all week and I'd say the Gallatin River Lodge restaurant was the worst meal & service we had. read more

Have to drive on very isolated roads to find this gem. My husband and I stayed overnight at their LOVELY lodge. Our room looked out to a fishing pond in a wide open field. So relaxing to just sit and watch the birds in flight and in their beautifully landscape. I was quite impressed with the architecture of the lodge with modern bathroom design. Our suite was most comfortable with a king size bed and cozy beddings and thick towels. Fresh pitcher of ice water with a slice of lemon and a glass of fresh brewed iced tea accompanied our warm and friendly welcome by Brianna. We dined in their restaurant that night. I had the Opah fish and DH had the pan roasted pheasant which were both excellently prepared and very satisfying. Service by Kalen was warm and engaging. read more

We wanted to hit a nice restaurant while in Montana, and we ended up going with the Gallatin River Lodge over the Italian place in Helena, Lucca's. To get here, you drive down a few unpaved country roads (that are beautiful) under a canopy of trees. When we got out of the car, we couldnt believe the setting this restaurant was in. By far, the most scenic restaurant I've ever been to. The tables are situated in and outside of a sort of farm house that overlook a pond that has a stream snaling up to it through river grass. The horizon consists of scattered oak and sycamore trees. We were anxious to see the deer that everybody was talking about, and sure enough, while we were eating we counted 8 to 10 white tail deer chasing birds under the trees. Our appetizer was the rainbow trout crepe - very very good. The trout's freshness and slightly creek-like fishy taste, set it off. The crepe was moist and paired perfectly. I went with the filet for my main. I would give it an 8/10 on tenderness and an 8/10 on taste. O ordered it to be medium and it was ever so slightly cooked a tiny bit too long. Overall though, it was a *good* piece of filet. Our dessert was the chocolate mouse. It was by far the best tasting chcocolate mouse we've ever had - we were both in agreement. Make the time to drive here and experience this place, and get a table outside at sunset. You won't regret it. read more

I will start this review by saying that it annoys me when somebody posts about "the best Mexican food ever" or "it was the best Italian food I've ever eaten." When I read reviews that start like that I move right onto the next one. Well, I must say, the entree that I ate at Gallatin River Lodge earlier this evening was quite possibly the most delicious meal that I've ever had. It was Chicken Paillard in a brown butter-citrus emulsion, and was so delicious and wonderful. After my second bite I said out loud that I had never tasted anything that good. Maybe it was the perfectly cooked young carrots or the wonderfully caramelized chicken, all in that amazing sauce. Maybe the delicious creamy mashed potatoes that soaked up all the juices put it over the top. I'm sure the wonderful service and Montana lodge ambiance helped as well. I can't think of enough words to describe this dish!! My Wedge Salad with homemade blue cheese was also quite good. The homemade bread with the balsamic spread was also really delicious. But that entree!!! I will remember it!!! Looking forward to my leftovers tomorrow...and already thinking about my next visit to Belgrade! read more

I came here with my husband for a fine dining experience and oh boy, did it exceed our expectations!!! We live in Southern California so have some of the best of the best eats out there. This, for sure is up there with our best top 5 eats! First of all, the pebble, dirt road to get here was so rustic. Then upon arriving, the scenery was amazingly beautiful! Dinner on the patio with a sunset was divine! We got to hear birds splashing and chirping, see deer running around and hear music as if it was a scene out of the movie, "The Notebook"! Upon arriving and checking in with our reservation, I asked the sweet hostess, Bailey (I hope I spelled her name correctly) took a few snaps and encouraged us to go closer to the scenery for pics! Our server, Andy, top notch! The dinner was not rushed, he gave great suggestions for apps, entrees, desserts, and even local fun things to do since we were out of towners. We ordered a rainbow trout crepe, scallops, filet, and chocolate mousse, and signature cocktails. Everything tasted so great! The Gallatin River Lodge is not just a dinner, it is an experience, and a magical one at that. I have been lucky enough to eat here several times in the past few years and it has never failed me. The ambience, the location, the views, the building, it is all wonderful. In the summer, sit in the main dining room and the wall of windows will be opened, offering full expansive views of the mountains and the gorgeous property. A pond where deer frequent is right out front and the photo opportunities are endless. The food is seasonally and locally based, and I have never had something I didn't enjoy immensely. Great bar and cocktail menu, and the wine list is exquisite. Additionally, the service is unparalleled.
