Very cool. I stopped in on a Friday afternoon on my way to Bozeman from the park's north entrance. The place was busy but I was able to get a seat. The bartender, who was by herself other than kitchen staff, was fast and friendly. Prices were average for the area. I had a beer and the pulled pork queso, which was really good. The vibe here is relaxed and they've done a great job keeping the history. It'd be fun to see a show here. If ever back in the area, I'll be back. read more

We enjoyed our time checking out Emigrant, Montana, and while we were here, we had to check out the Old Saloon, the historic bar and music venue. They even had the old fashioned swinging doors, except they had one propped open so you couldn't really swing them open. The rustic decor is super cool! We made our way to a booth and were greeted with menus. We had just had brunch, so we weren't really hungry. We each had a root beer, which was really good! I went with a scoop of huckleberry ice cream, my oldest had a scoop of vanilla ice cream and my youngest had the biscuit strawberry shortcake. Everything was wonderful! They also have a concert venue and Willie Nelson's son is playing there tonight! read more

Great music venue and pretty good food. We sat overlooking the stage, kinda in the VIP area, if you had to buy tickets. However this was a free concert. It sounded good! One suggestion, the smell coming from the outhouses(bathrooms) was horrible. Maybe move the somewhere else. read more

We are out of towners and stayed in Emigent, which is an area that does not have a lot of options nearby. Old Saloon was closed for the first half of the week we were there (along with all the other food options) but we managed to pop in Wednesday night after a long, exhausting day. We found half of the dining area was closed so there were only about 6 tables available, plus bar seating (we had 8 people). Service was ok, but we did have to ask for refills each time we needed one and for sugar when it was forgotten. The menu was super limited (different than what their online menu showed which was disappointing because we went for certain things and none ended up being on the menu) and really expensive for what we had to choose from (ex. $4 to add jalapeño and $4 to add bacon to a burger- insane). The food was not great. I got the Big Sky (grilled chicken sandwich with bacon) and it was dry/overcooked. Asked for it with the ranch on the side (I don't like ranch) and it was put on it and on the side. Sweet potato fries were all stuck together and just not great. Overall, maybe we caught them on a bad day, but it was the worst stop we had on our trip. We got food, we ate, it did the truck, but it was over priced and just meh. read more

So this is not a gimmick. Well I mean, it is a little bit of a gimmick, but the food is legitimately delicious. We walked in here with not the highest of hopes but hungry bellies, and were extremely pleasantly surprised. The staff were warm and welcoming, and made us instantly feel at home. And the suggestion of the roasted red pepper soup was on point. That soup is probably the best thing I've eaten so far in the state of Montana. The burgers were good and juicy and I'm kind of sad that we didn't get the fries because the next table over had them and they looked delicious. The iced tea tasted fresh brewed and this would be a foolish spot to miss if you're in the area headed into or out of Yellowstone the prices were reasonable and it looks like they do live music and I would be excited to come back and eat again. Wheelchair accessibility: this is a historic building and would be within its rights not to be wheelchair accessible. But that is not the case! There is a zero rise door entry; you do have to get through the saloon doors and then there's a traditional door behind that so you might need a hand but coming out you look like an old western bandit ready for a high noon shootout. There's plenty of seating options and lots of space to maneuver. The bathroom door was light and the bathrooms are spacious with plenty of room to turn around, and grab bars. read more

We were just asked to leave with our dogs even though this website says dogs allowed. We sat outside alone with no people or pets. The owner was rushing onto the "no ambiance deck" and one of our little dogs got scared and nipped him. Not cool. We absolutely agree. We apologized over and over. We were very pointedly asked to leave immediately. We grabbed our food and drinks and were moving as quickly as we could apologizing the whole way(I'm 73 my friend is 76 and has only one eye and poor vision), but it was not quick enough and the owner told us to "hurry up". There was a sign for service dogs only. We had our food made to go so we could leave the area asap! (again the website said dogs allowed, we were all alone sitting on ripped up chairs and dirty tables, we were so hungry and needed a break). We are very sorry about our little dogs, but we were all surprised by the sudden commotion on the deck. I do feel there was a slight over reaction by the owner and he could have been just a tad bit more understanding about 2 handicapped seniors moving as quickly as they could. Should have gone to the BB Q place behind him, prettier and nicer. Won't be back, because of the owner, food and drinks terrific!!! read more

Loved the atmosphere at Old Saloon. Established in 1902, it has that nostalgic, old Montana feel that makes you want to stay awhile. The historic western atmosphere really adds to the experience, and you can feel the history when you walk in. Great whiskey selection, attentive bartenders, and just an overall cool place to stop, grab a drink, and soak in the vibe. Definitely worth a visit if you're passing through Paradise Valley or heading to Yellowstone. read more

It was a bit busy and took us a long time to get seated. It ended up our party of 8 had to split up. We ordered an appetizer which we never got. It took a long time for get our food once we ordered as well. Refills were very slow as well. We ate and had to wait a while to get our ticket. We had to ask the server to take off the appetizer we never got which again took a hot minute to fix and then pay. The food was average. The atmosphere was probably the best thing about Old Saloon. If you're going for the bar, I'm sure it's great. Servers seemed to hang out there the most. However if you're going with a large group and expecting to all sit together and get served quickly, find somewhere else to go. Ours was a 2 hour dinner. read more

This place was in the tiny down of Emigrant. The food was outstanding. The place was clean and chairs are comfortable (no sides). The service was lacking but they were very busy so I didn't knock off a star. They got our order wrong, didn't refill water jug unless we asked and never brought extra napkins. This was a BIG disappointment. I should have guessed as I had to call 3 x & send 2 emails to try to get a reservation for my large party (16). The menu was changed from the one online and no longer featured fish & chips, bean burger or others. We had 2 meat-free diners who had boring green salad & fries. Two Drinks never arrived, the water wasn't refilled. Food arrived in piecemeal. All fries & nachos were ice cold. Fried chicken sandwich was over cooked & dry. Burgers were decent. We stopped in here for lunch on our way out of the park toward white sulphur springs. The food is stellar, all four of us got something different and it was all fantastic. The drinks were perfect and our service was amazing. Be warned, the actual restaurant is not open Tuesday or Wednesday (or maybe it was Wednesday Thursday I can remember) and the only place to eat is in the bar and seating is limited. Also note that the parking lot is ALWAYS super full even when the place is empty so don't let that deter you. Stop in and check it out, you won't be disappointed. read more

Ok....stopped in with friends from out of town for lunch after the hot springs. I had a craving for a burger and a beer. The second I walked in I saw that they had Octoberfest on tap, and right away I knew I was going to like this place. We all ordered drinks and food. The waitresses was crazy short staffed. It was just her and a bartender. That would explain the wait times. It took a while for us to get our food order in but once we got it everyone was happy with their meal. I got the burger and it was really good. There was supposed to be mushrooms on it but I never saw or tasted them. Still really good though. I had a bite of Kim's Ruben and it was awesome. I'm not sure what happened to this place but we used to travel 3 hours just to eat a Ruben and have garlic fries. Neither are on the menu anymore. Service used to be spot on. Servers would ask if you needed anything often. We just had food there and everything we had went down hill. My wife salad was half the size from a year ago and no where near as well put together. I had fish and chips ( not sure why). One piece was so raw I didn't eat it. I like sushi but this was not good. Service was terrible we had to stack our glasses at the end of the table just to get our server's attention. We have been coming to this place for over 15 years. We won't come back unless we hear the new owners have figured out how to run a restaurant. read more

Bartender was very friendly and welcoming. The inside sports hats that are left by different visitors to Paradise Valley and some in memory of those who have passed on. This was the coldest beer I've had the whole trip and we ordered the nachos with chicken. A LOT OF FOOD!! However, very good. They had a food truck outside, but we were looking for a full service meal. The bartender was nice and looks like they accommodate both locals and tourists. Wow! This place was amazing! I was staying towards the Yellowstone, so about 30 mins away, but wanted some true Montana food options and this was the place that drew me in! They have your Chicken Fried Steak, Rocky Mountain Oysters and Trout! I went during off season and while Covid was still a thing so it was not very busy and the concert area was not in use and what a bummer! It is such a nice place, inside and out! Definitely the place to be for delicious food or an ice cold beer if you're close to the North Entrance of Yellowstone. I tried the Rocky Mountain Oysters which were surprisingly delicious. The breading wasn't too thick, they could have been a little crispier, but I like my fried food extra crispy so I'm sure it was cooked to perfection for most. It had a venison/gamey taste, but had a softer side when you bit into it. It was VERY GOOD! I also had the fish and chips, which was the local trout. Not a fish I typically have so I was a little skeptical, but it was good and fried the way I like it -- crispy with just enough seasoning to pull in the perfect flavor. I also had the fries and Mac and cheese, which I would get again. The fries were thin and crispy, but not show string thin. The Mac and cheese tasted like something out of my family's thanksgiving. I tipped all that off with a nice cold local MT brew. All of their drafts are local state beer which I thought was pretty cool. There was only one lady working the tables and bars during lunch time, as it wasn't too crowded, but she was VERY NICE! She was helpful, nice and talkative! Even the locals (or they were at least regulars that I could tell) said bye when I was leaving! 10/10 recommended when you're in the area! read more

I was anxious ordering the tempura shrimp (big cities have trouble with this one sometime) so I was skeptical but it really was tempura batter! My only "complaint" and I've noticed this at almost every restaurant in Montana; what do ya'll have against rolls, breads, etc? It's nearly impossible to find a place that has/serves rolls, garlic bread, etc..... you have burgers and baguettes so why not accommodate a guest when they ask for bread? Take a burger bun or baguette, slather on some butter and throw it in your flattop for 30-60 seconds, add some garlic too! Our sweet waitress told me you had "sandwich bread." This was a good stop on our way through town. Everyone was very nice and the service was awesome! We enjoyed the onion rings, elk meatloaf and a spinach salad. All very tasty! We had hoped to sit in the bar but found that the bar area only served burgers and appetizers so we had to go to the adjoining building for the full menu. The only negative was the amount of flies around the inside of the windows. Unfortunately we sat at a window table and were fighting them away from our food the whole time. read more

There's also a pool table and tables and booths to sit in. It seems like the go-to place for locals and visitors alike. It can get really crowded so be prepared to stand or wait for a seat to open.
