Yelpers nailed it again. This was a delicious 4 star meal and experience. We had just flown into Bozeman and wanted something semi quick. We came across this place in my search and were able to order "to go" and enjoy our meal on the big wrap around porch. We ordered from their basement dining menu and everything sounded delicious. There were even clearly marked GF items. My husband and I both ordered burgers made with Montana Wagyu beef and loved them. Unfortunately they don't cook them lower than medium but they were still excellent. Mine had bacon which had unique smoke wood flavor. The GF bun didn't deter from the overall meal thankfully. Stayed on a Thursday night. Very nicely appointed hotel. The attention to detail was very impressive. We were upgraded to a cottage across the street. At first didn't know why. Then was told the lobby would be closing that night due to occupancy. We ate at the bar restaurant (same level as the lobby). Prime rib was excellent. Bread with dips (not sure what else to call them) were delicious. My husband loves horseradish so he got it fresh and the creamy prepared style. Horseradish was on my plate. My husband mentioned to the bartender that I don't use it. With my plate in front of me she reached over and took it off my plate. I was taken aback as I haven't had a bartender nor server ever do that before. I thought I would just hand it to her off my plate my food was served on. This may not seem like a big deal to some. I was raised by depression parents that instilled respect for someone's plate their food is served on and table manners. Our cottage was very stylish and comfortable. Had its own heating/cooling source (mini split) and a ceiling fan. Kitchenette area was very cute with sodas/water in the fridge. And small jars of snacks. I would've given 5 stars in my review if it wasn't for the horseradish incident and the bartender being a bit over friendly with the men (including my husband) at the bar. I'm a sucker for historical hotels Sacajawea Hotel is on the registry for national historic places and hotels. We drive out of our way to stay here during a cross country road trip in 2020. Located in a tiny town, the hotel's offerings alone are worth the adventure. From the wrap around front porch with rocking chairs to the updated bathrooms in the historic rooms and two on-site restaurants featuring regional dishes like trout, bison burgers and so on. We thoroughly enjoyed our time reading books and watching the sunset in rocking chairs on the porch. We also enjoyed a carryout meal from the basement bar on the front porch. I was especially impressed by the updated bathrooms and little touches like local chocolates in the room, mouthwash in the bathrooms, robes and so on. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We were treated to a champagne glass upon arrival that kicked the experience off on a high note. Overall, a memorable stay! read more

We arrived quite late after a long drive and were met by incredible hospitality. The front porch is a gathering space and even at 11pm on a weekday night, it was full. We were greeted with champagne and s'mores. The lobby is very historic and inviting. They set out tea and coffee in the mezzanine accompanied by delicious banana bread. The gentleman who had greeted us the night prior was also knowledgeable and shared many interesting facts about the area in general. The rooms are cozy but comfortable. The location is prime. We stayed here for one night on our way through Montana and were very happy to stumble on the Sacajawea Hotel. The hotel has a ton of historic character that makes the hotel what it is. The feel, style, and age of the hotel provided for a great experience. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Upon your check-in the hotel provided a cool towel and glass of champagne. The lobby provides historic photos and a warm welcoming. The room was nicely decorated and comfortable. The bathroom was clean and well furnished. We stayed here because it's historic. what a mistake. The young girl at the front desk was pleasant upon arrival. it ended there everyone else was extremely unfriendly and never greeted you or looked up from the desk. We were there 2 nights and in morning they text me asking if I wanted the room to be cleaned. I immediately replied Yes and please leave a couple of extra face cloths. when we returned at 3:30 they dirty towels were still on the floor and they never cleaned the room . Someone brought in the facecloths and left towels and garbage in room and never made the bed. The person at the desk never apologized and said it was my text. When she re read it she realized I did answer. we checked out this morning not a sole insight and heads up no one works there to carry your bags up to your room on second or third floor. My fiancé and I recently got engaged and had booked a stay at the Sacajawea Hotel to celebrate both our engagement and my birthday. Since we had never stayed there before and found their website unclear on certain services and policies, I called the front desk a few times for clarification. Unfortunately, each time I spoke with one of the front desk girls, their tone and attitude made me feel like my questions were an inconvenience. The dismissive and unwelcoming response was so disappointing that we ultimately decided to cancel our reservation. If we going off of ambiance and service, this place rocks. It's a great date night of you don't mind dropping some coin on dinner and drinks. The menu is laden with goat cheese which is disappointing as they tout the chef pretty hard. My steak was raw, ordered medium. We will likely give it another go but hoping they can remove some goat cheese options. Also don't need caviar in my ranch. Husband liked it but maybe my pallet is not that sophisticated. read more

I went here a couple of weeks ago with my brother and his wife's family who live in Bozeman. This is one of their regular dinner spots and now I understand why. The food was absolutely incredible! It was honestly one of the top 10 tastiest dinners of my life! I ordered the pork chop for dinner. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly, the sauce on it was amazing and just absolutely a wonderful dish. For dessert I got the banana and date pudding bread. This also was amazing. My brother stole a bite of it and the first thing he said was Oh My God. It was an absolutely fantastic meal and I would 100% recommend this restaurant and I hope I can come back again soon! read more

We stayed here for a night while passing through. The desk staff were very friendly and offered us warm lavender towels and champagne upon check in. We had requested a single queen but were upgraded to a king. Parking is conveniently located in front of the building. The room is nice, but small and had a small bathroom as well with a very noisy fan. The bed was comfortable and there was a tv, desk, and chair. While we slept well, the age of the building shows in the morning when you can hear everyone coming up and down the stairs. There is coffee, banana bread, and fruit available in the morning. We also ate dinner at the SAC bar which was great. Their burgers and sandwiches are delicious and the staff were very friendly. read more

This charming throwback to the old west is just 30 minutes outside of Bozeman. At check in we were greeted with complementary Champaign! Gorgeous lobby and rooms, remodeled to perfection. i don't often take the time to write a review but i don't think i've ever had such thoughtful service. unfortunately i don't remember the front desk lady's name but she was just an absolute sweetheart. my mom and i weren't there for long, got in late and had to be up early for a flight. i like to collect tee shirts and i spotted one i liked in the gift shop and she went out of her way late at night to find me a bigger size than what they had out. she then proceeded to ask us if we'd like any coffee and snacks to have ready for us in the morning. we decided on 2 coffees and a slice of banana bread. when i got to the car i opened my to go box only to find not 1 but 5 pieces of banana bread. small gestures but it really stuck with us how thoughtful she was. just a reminder true kind people are still out there. just want to say thank you for making our short stay memorable. i highly recommend everyone to stop here, great staff and great history. read more

The food at their upstairs restaurant Pompey's was restaurant was excellent! Highly recommend it if your only coming there to dine. However, the rooms were crowded with several units where the AC did not work so it was close to 80° in the room in June. When I asked about switching rooms, as did several other people I noticed while we were there, the staff said, "yeah they've been having problems with some the ACs". Sounds like they haven't done anything about it. Just be fore-warned if you come in the summer. The mosquitoes are also brutal which we're from Texas, so we get but didn't expect in Montana. The staff said they're always bad but they could at least buy some mosquito patio eggs or some citronella candles, or even get a mosquito treatment line so that you can sit outside on their beautiful veranda. We were forced to stay inside in the dark rooms because of mosquitoes. We heard other couples say the same thing. The patio is beautiful as are the flowers but hard to enjoy it with the mosquitoes. read more

We have dined here numerous times over the years. It was worth the drive from Bozeman and Missoula. The quality of the food has declined and the service certainly needs improvement. We were seated in close proximity to the bar. The water glasses were not refilled and the waitress did not ask if wanted another drink. For the price of the food I expect much more attentive service. The food was ok, but not of the quality we have come to expect over the years. Definitely no longer worth the trip. Overall, very disappointed. read more

Had an excellent stay! Greeted with bubbles at reception we sat outside on the porch and rested from the road. Our room was clean and comfortable- the shower was particularly nice! Also, little nuances like chocolates and ear plugs by the bed made it more charming than the typical hotel stay. Also, be sure to dine at the restaurant! And the bar in the basement of the hotel is a good spot to check out and bring up some drinks for the porch. read more

The hotel itself is great. But the "Sac Bar" is something else. My family had dinner on the 12th of December. On the way home to Butte we had to stop at almost any location that had a toilet. My whole family except my oldest son now has "The Runs" (My oldest has a stomach of iron and bowels of titanium.) service was great tho! Wait staff was prompt and courteous. This hotel could be wonderful if the management/owners actually cared about your stay! The hotel itself is beautiful, as it is one of many old hotels in the state still operating. The staff was kind and professional enough, but none of that made up for the cold shoulder from management! The noise level from the bar kept my family of three (two adults and a toddler) up all night! The noise literally resonated from the basement up to our second-story room through our pillows. We not only heard the activity, but felt it also. The next day of vacation we were all exhausted and felt awful; my three-year-old actually threw up all over the back seat! I emailed the hotel the day after returning home, but I still have not received a response weeks later. My husband called management and left a message, yet again with no response. Because of their lack of caring, let me also add that the bathroom was not cleaned sufficiently. I found two pills from a previous occupant on the floor! I can't imagine if my daughter had found those and swallowed them! Nothing about this hotel makes the stay worth it, especially at their prices! Stay away!!! read more

I was extremely excited to stay here after reading about all the great customer service experiences. I'm all about customer service and "the little things" and will always pay extra somewhere knowing I will receive that. This place sounded like just that. First I had read how you are greeted with champagne and a hot towel, I for one was not and had to ask for the champagne once I was all checked in and was pointed to where my room was. Second, I arrived right at 3 PM and told the receptionist that I read some of the rooms have tubs and some do not and if mine did, She said "oh i'm not sure if yours does, some on the floor do, not sure". Then tried taking a shower and it was freezing the whole time. Then asked about the restaurants and she just said the menu's are over there you can take a look. Totally not helpful seemed annoyed. tl;dr The hotel is safe and clean. The staff is friendly and tries, but sometimes fails, to accommodate. It's old construction, so don't expect to not hear everyone around you walking and going up and down steps. Don't expect the HVAC to keep the room very cool. Would I stay here again? I'm not sure, but maybe. When I'm reading reviews for unfamiliar hotels in unfamiliar areas, the first things I'm interested in are: 1. Is it safe? 2. Is it clean? Sacajawea Hotel passes both of these tests. Staying here wouldn't make me fear for my health or safety. So with that covered, don't be afraid to stay here. Now on to the detailed review. First the positives: The hotel is beautiful. I'm told that it's a very popular wedding and/or honeymoon venue. That makes sense. There are plenty of postcard-worthy pictures to be taken there. The staff is friendly. When I travel, I require a supply of medicine that has to be refrigerated. The rooms don't have refrigerators (weird in this day and age), so the clerk offered to keep my medicine and ice-pack in their staff refrigerator. I was impressed with this accommodation. The bedding and accompaniments are luxurious. There were two delicious squares of huckleberry white-chocolate candy and a small bottle of lavender spray for the pillows, an extremely nice touch. Everything looked, smelled, and felt clean, soft, and inviting. Next, the not quite as positives: The clerk, while friendly, was overwhelmed and a bit forgetful. One of the things you're told to expect when you check in is a glass of champagne and a cool lavender hand-towel. She forgot, so we had to ask. Not a real problem, but a symptom. I have tinnitus, so I need some sound to help me sleep. Also, some air movement helps. I asked the clerk if the hotel had a fan I could borrow. She said she would ask maintenance for one. That was at 3pm. At 6pm, I went to the desk and asked her the status. She said, "We just gave out the last fan to another guest. There's a dollar store down the road. They may have one. Also, we have free earplugs in the room." Earplugs aren't really an option to stop your ears from ringing, so we made the walk to the dollar store. It's about a quarter-mile from the hotel down a busy road that's clearly not meant for pedestrians. When we got there, the dollar store told us that they were out of fans. Our fault, I guess for not calling first. I used my phone to play rain sounds instead. Not ideal, but better than nothing. When we were checking our room to make sure nothing was left behind, I found a sound-making machine in the top drawer of the nightstand. I would have been good to be told that was there when I mentioned that I need sound to sleep. Next, we found out why the hotel offers free earplugs. Our room was next to the stairway. You could hear people going up and down the stairs. Also, the people in the room above us walked around all night, so there was lots of creaking. To be fair, the clerk did offer to move us to an upstairs room if the noise was too bad. However, the hotel has no elevator and I wasn't feeling like lugging a bunch of luggage up stairs. Another barrier to peaceful sleep to me is temperature. When we first entered our room, the temperature was about 75 degrees. The HVAC was set to 62. When I picked up the remote, it had a note taped to it that said "Don't set this lower than 68 or it won't work." I changed it to 68. It still never really cooled the room. If you put your hand by the vent, you could feel a very slight air-flow of sort of cool air. Being an old hotel is no excuse for this. The HVAC unit had an LCD display on it. It was just poor quality. If this review sounds like I have mixed feelings, it's because I do. The people were nice and the place was beautiful. The HVAC may be a deal-killer, though. I'll reiterate, don't be afraid to stay here. Just be prepared for some things that might not be up to the standard you would expect. read more
