The number they give you to bring food to your table lets you learn a new word
Edward G.

Went to Galaxy Cafe for a casual dinner and had the spicy chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and both were excellent. The chicken had a really crunchy batter without being greasy, and the ciabatta tasted fresh. The fries were crispy and not overly salted. My dining companions split a pasta dish and instead of just handing them an extra plate, the kitchen actually split the pasta for them and gave each person their own piece of bread. That kind of attention feels thoughtful and rare, especially for a counter service spot. They have a nice selection of iced teas including herbal tea and flavored green tea, plus beer and soda. It feels like more of a brunch / lunch place but it works for dinner too. This isn't a place where you come away saying "you have to order this one thing." It's more that everything is done well across the menu, which makes it easy to come back and try something different next time. I can't speak to the other locations, but this one was great.

Today I decided to give Galaxy Cafe a whirl for the first time since it's close to where we live. It's self serve where you grab a menu and decide what you want and place an order with the cashier. Three menus: main, breakfast and gluten free. The restaurant is spacious with parties of all sizes: 1, 2, 4, 8 and 20. The wall design is abstract and modern, which I was pleasantly surprised by. I chose avocado toast, one of my favorite breakfast foods. The top of the avocado toast was good...a bit spicey. The bread, Swiss muesli, was very hard and I gave up on the bread after trying to cut one piece. The oatmeal chocolate chip cookie was very good. Firm on the outside and soft on the inside with melted chocolate chips inside. I will definitely stop by to get one of these cookies. This restaurant is family oriented. You can tell they have a number of regulars. The noise level is pretty high as I could hear the conversation of a group across the restaurant. I may come back and try another menu item.

What a great find! This little brunch spot was perfect for us this Sunday morning. We didn't want a long line, and the free-style here is to go place your order at the register first, then you get a number, pick up your glass to get your drinks and sit at your chosen table until the food is magically delivered in a few minutes. Perfect! We read from the varied menu es (they have 3) before going up to the register to place our order. We were there around 10:30 and there was no line, but around 11 am the line started forming, so get there early, although I have to say that it moved quick. The food arrived also fast, and it was tasty!! I enjoyed an avocado toast with egg and bacon: yum! We also ordered a steak chimichurri wrap: super juicy and delicious came with fries, and an egg spinach jalapeño with extra steak wrap that was also yummy... no complaints. Had a pleasant fun brunch and off we went to continue our Austin adventure!

Salmon tacos with fruit
Christie P.

A couple of friends and I went here for dinner because one of us is gluten-free, and they have a large gluten-free menu. You order at a counter and the staff brings the food out. We each tried a different entree. I had the salmon sriracha tacos which were really good and not too spicy. One friend tried the elotes chicken tacos which she said were very spicy. The third friend tried the salmon dinner, and she really liked it. Our only issue was that the restaurant was kind of dark, especially after sunset, and needed more lighting.

Roasted Veggie Buddha Bowl
Kristen N.

I ordered the Roasted Veggie Buddha Bowl, which is vegan as-is. I asked about the dressing and the person about the counter was quick to open a binder that showed all ingredients, which I appreciated. This is definitely a local spot and not very cutesy/trendy like many popular Austin places, but it's a good place for a more classic breakfast or lunch option.

Zocalo bowl!! Yummmm!
Nikkie H.

Had the Zocalo Bowl and it was delicious! Fresh ingredients, generous portion and full of flavor. The service was outstanding! Love the local vibe. The ambiance is comfortable and clean. It was a quiet place and would be a great place to study/work but the lighting is terrible. Maybe little table lamps for evening dining. I'm sure it's great in the day time.

Galaxy Fish Wrap
Nancy B.

Just so happened to be in the neighborhood and was looking for a place to eat and found a Galaxy Café. I had the Galaxy Fish Wrap with a side of fruit. I am so glad I got to taste this amazing wrap. I don't think there is any other wrap that can compare to this wrap. The fish was fresh and the batter was crispy and the cabbage slaw complemented it perfectly. I had it on a spinach wrap. I don't think that changes the flavor much but it made it look a little bit prettier. The fruit was pretty cool as it was not your regular fruit cup. I don't live in Austin so I won't be here often. I did say I wish they had one closer to me. I definitely would love to go back and try all of their dishes. For some reason, I got the feeling that their coffee is amazing as I saw a lot of people getting it with their lunch. The dining area was really nice and comfortable and there were all sorts of people having lunch there.

The house-made blueberry preserves? Unreal. The local honey and butter? I could have eaten them with a spoon. My mouth is literally watering just thinking about it. Then came the cinnamon roll--crispy, golden edges with that gooey center that makes you involuntarily close your eyes and do a little happy food dance. We also shared The Old Fashioned biscuit sandwich, featuring house-made sausage that was so good it made us question all other sausage. Naturally, we had to "research" the bacon too--perfectly cooked, smoky, and absolutely worth it. We sat out on the porch with my pup, Lily, who was treated like royalty (fresh bowl of water and plenty of adoring attention). She gives the bacon two paws up! The staff? Absolute gems--Mark & Marie were warm, welcoming, and genuinely happy to have us there. It felt more like breakfast at your favorite relative's house than a restaurant visit. Perfect Birthday Celebration at Roaring Fork!…read more On Sunday I celebrated my birthday at Roaring Fork with my family, and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The food was outstanding, and the view overlooking the quarry made the evening even more special. One of our favorite perks was that Happy Hour is available all day on Sundays. We started with a traditional margarita, a mango margarita, and a few mocktails, all of which were excellent. For appetizers, we shared the shrimp cocktail, fresh guacamole, and chicken flatbread. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and a great way to begin the meal. For our entrées, I ordered the cedar-planked salmon with miso soy glaze, and it was absolutely delicious. The salmon was perfectly cooked and practically melted in my mouth. My partner enjoyed the same dish and loved it as well. My youngest daughter ordered the New York strip steak with mashed potatoes, her boyfriend chose the ribeye steak with French fries (they definitely have expensive taste!), and my other daughter had the grilled rainbow trout. Every dish was beautifully prepared and thoroughly enjoyed. The red wine paired perfectly with our meal, and the staff graciously allowed us to bring a birthday cake, which made the celebration even more memorable. Between the exceptional food, beautiful atmosphere, great drinks, and attentive service, it was the perfect birthday celebration. I highly recommend Roaring Fork for a special occasion or a relaxing Sunday meal with family and friends.

More and more, going out to eat in the U.S. has been a disappointing, underwhelming experience. I…read moreunderstand that time is money and that waiters and waitresses are working for their tips, but it truly sucks that it has become so difficult to actually enjoy your time in a restaurant, to just sit and relax without feeling this underlying rush. It's something that seems perfectly possible in pretty much every other country but the U.S. The moment you sit down, the waiter asks what they can get for you. They handed you the menu three seconds ago. There was absolutely no time to glance through it, evaluate your options, or discuss them with whoever you're sharing the table with. This happened at Roaring Fork, but it also happens 95% of the time I go out to dinner. Then the food comes, you eat, say no to dessert, and voilà: the check is waiting for you! Again, you can't just sit back and relax, take your time deciding whether you want dessert, maybe order a coffee or another drink. They want you out of there ASAP, and somehow you're still expected to tip 20%, which is ludicrous, but this is another conversation. Now, specifically regarding Roaring Fork, I do wonder what actually constitutes a "fancy" place. What is it? The view of the lake isn't exactly impressive. The inside is cute. Does having a cute interior make a place fancy, is that it? Or is it the high-priced menu? There's no bread offered at the table, nothing particularly special. I am genuinely lost when it comes to what makes a place "nice" these days.

**Extremely Disappointing Visit**…read more My visit today was extremely disappointing. I was promptly greeted and seated, and unfortunately, that is where the good customer service ended. After being seated, I was not acknowledged by anyone. I was not offered a "good morning," water, coffee, or even asked if I needed anything. I sat at my table for approximately 15 minutes before I finally got up and asked to speak with a manager. What made the situation even more frustrating was watching customers who arrived **10-15 minutes after me** get acknowledged, served water, and offered coffee while I continued to sit there without any attention. The staff repeatedly walked past my table on their way to the kitchen. I noticed several of them look directly toward my table, yet no one stopped to acknowledge me or provide service. At that point, it was very difficult not to feel as though I was being intentionally overlooked. When I spoke with the manager, she explained that there were internal issues between the waitstaff that were contributing to the problem in my section. I understand that restaurants can have internal staffing challenges, but those issues should never become the customer's problem. Whatever was happening behind the scenes, I was the customer sitting there without service. I also want to be honest about something that made this experience particularly uncomfortable. I was the only person of my race that I noticed in the restaurant. I cannot say with certainty that race had anything to do with how I was treated, and I don't want to make an accusation without evidence. However, **I can say how the experience made me feel**. I felt ignored, overlooked, and singled out. Customer Service Index (CSI), customer satisfaction, and reviews are extremely important to businesses and their corporate offices. Experiences like this are exactly how a restaurant loses a customer who otherwise may have returned and recommended the establishment to others. I don't expect special treatment. I expect the same basic courtesy and level of service that every customer deserves: a greeting, acknowledgment, water, coffee, and reasonable attention after being seated. Unfortunately, that did not happen today, and it completely ruined what should have been an enjoyable breakfast experience. I hope management and the corporate office take this seriously--not simply as one unhappy customer's complaint, but as an opportunity to examine what happened, why it happened, and how situations like this can be prevented in the future.

But four was perfect. The reservation process was easy and the staff was super accommodating. I requested an area that was a little secluded with less noise so we could all catch up with each other. And they picked the most perfect table that was tucked away in its own little private area but you could still see everything that was going on in the restaurant. Chef's kiss! Our server was so friendly and fun and everything came out at the right time and on time. It's Italian so of course I ordered a red wine, Cabernet to be exact. We ordered a few shareable bites for the table and I really enjoyed the bruschetta and the meatballs! For dinner I had the butter lettuce salad (so good!) and then a butternut squash ravioli that was absolutely amazing. I would order that again and again and again but... There are way too many delicious options to get the same thing every time you go. Everyone ordered something different and everyone had the same reaction. Delicious! I cannot wait to return and try more things off of the menu. Note, it's always best to make a reservation but keep in mind they also have a full bar with seating around the bar. I definitely recommend giving this restaurant a try and make sure you're hungry when you go because there's so many delicious menu items to choose from.

Review for Juliette's Restaurant - Arboretum Location…read more On August 7, 2026, my husband and I visited Juliette's in the Arboretum, and unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The food itself was just alright -- nothing memorable or worth praising -- but the real issue was the environment and how we were made to feel. We were seated in a secluded area of the restaurant, noticeably apart from the main dining space. As the evening went on, we saw that nearly all the guests being ushered into the main area were Caucasian, while we remained the only minority couple placed off to the side. It was hard not to feel singled out. Our primary waitress was wonderful -- kind, attentive, and professional. However, when another staff member brought out our food, she looked at us and said, "Why you all hiding?" My husband almost responded, but I stopped him. She did not know that her comment hit a sore spot, especially when we didn't choose to be seated away from everyone else. As more guests arrived, the pattern continued: they were guided to the main dining area while we remained isolated. The entire experience felt discriminatory, and it left us with the impression that we were not "good enough" for the rest of the restaurant. My husband still left a generous tip because we believe in treating service staff fairly -- regardless of how we are treated. We will not be returning to this location. Perhaps the Barton Springs restaurant is different, but the Arboretum site left us feeling unwelcome. Even the promotional photos for this location show no minority representation, which sadly aligns with how we were made to feel. I do not recommend this restaurant at this site.

This isn't necessarily an every-week dinner for us price-wise--hibachi can definitely be a splurge--but if we could justify going every week, we absolutely would. It is hands-down some of the best hibachi I've ever had. And hibachi seems simple enough: great meat, fried rice, fresh vegetables, sauces. But when it's done REALLY well, apparently there is a huge difference, because Japon has completely ruined mediocre hibachi for me. Everything tastes incredibly fresh, the meat is always cooked beautifully, the vegetables are perfect, the rice is ridiculous, and I could probably consume an irresponsible amount of their sauces. The food is actually so good that it inspired me to start buying fresh vegetables, good meat, rice, yum yum sauce and sriracha and making my own little version at home. It isn't Japon, obviously, but that's how much we love this food. What really deserves recognition, though, is their consistency. We've visited both locations, they've been absolutely SLAMMED, and somehow the service is still exceptional. We've never sat around forever waiting to be acknowledged or wondering where our server went. The staff is attentive, friendly and efficient every single time we've gone. The atmosphere at both locations is beautiful and lively, and of course there's the whole experience of watching your meal prepared right in front of you. Even the little details make it feel like a complete dining experience--from sitting down with a cold Topo Chico and fresh lemon to the little orange treat at the end. It's one of those restaurants where you leave already thinking about the next time you can justify going back. Yes, dinner for two can turn into a splurge. But we've never walked out feeling like the experience wasn't worth it. The quality of the food, atmosphere and consistently excellent service keeps us coming back. If you're craving hibachi in Austin, Sushi Japon is absolutely worth trying. Both locations have been fantastic for us. 10/10. If my budget had its way, we'd be regulars. We had to prompt her for clarification and next steps, and had to continue to prompt her through the process of getting us sat. When we finally sat down at a regular table, we waited about 15 minutes without a server coming by. I eventually flagged a server down, and we got our order under way. We requested the manager stop by to tell him about the issue with the reservation and the fact that his hostess needs additional training, and surprise, the manager was also not helpful. He did apologize for our reservation being lost, but blamed it on the system and denied any responsibility for taking care of it - basically just told us that "life is life". He did not offer a discount or any kind of relief for the setbacks or bad service. I wasn't expecting the world or anything, but good hospitality dictates that you do more that basically tell us to just deal with it. For the food: the sushi was pretty gnarly - it looked like somebody was angry at the fish when they were slicing. Most things needed salt. Steak and fried rice was good, but the vegetables were pretty much raw. I can forgive quite a bit when it comes to service, especially on graduation/mother's day weekend. But honestly I'm a little impressed at how little the entire staff cared about their guests.

So happy we decided to eat here tonight…read more The service was spot on...prompt, friendly and attentive without being overwhelming. My meal was outstanding. Full of flavor and perfectly looked. I've got not negative to say about tonight. A pleasure from start to finish. You must give it a try.....

We were so impressed with the…read morefood and overall experience that we decided to come back with our entire family so everyone could enjoy it as much as we did. Unfortunately, our second visit was a completely different experience and a huge disappointment. We ordered several dishes, including ribeye steak, filet mignon, and ribs. Sadly, not a single one of the steaks was enjoyable. The meat was extremely dry, lacked flavor, and was simply not good. None of us could even finish our steaks because they were so disappointing. On top of that, we had to wait an incredibly long time for our food to arrive, which made the experience even more frustrating. What makes this even more disappointing is that we came back with high expectations based on our wonderful first visit. We genuinely wanted our family to experience the same great food we had enjoyed before, but unfortunately, it was the complete opposite. I'm giving 2 stars only because our first visit was so good. Based on our most recent experience alone, I would have given just 1 star. I really hope the restaurant improves its food quality and consistency, because the difference between our two visits was shocking.
