Brought the Hop Queen here for breakfast after another overnight in Austin. My first visit impressed me enough to bring the wife unit in this time, especially since she is more particular about her morning coffee than me (years in the Army and various levels of "work" coffee will do that). We were greeted and seated promptly, and as with the previous visit, all the staff were on the job and friendly. Our server suggested a couple of different items, we opted for the Farmhouse hash, which pretty much covered any "cooked breakfast" cravings we had. We also got an order of the Million Dollar bacon, so we left pretty much full for the rest of the day. The food and the coffee were spot on, and even as the Saturday morning rush started, we were never made to feel that we needed to clear out for new customers. **Extremely Disappointing Visit** My visit today was extremely disappointing. I was promptly greeted and seated, and unfortunately, that is where the good customer service ended. After being seated, I was not acknowledged by anyone. I was not offered a "good morning," water, coffee, or even asked if I needed anything. I sat at my table for approximately 15 minutes before I finally got up and asked to speak with a manager. What made the situation even more frustrating was watching customers who arrived **10-15 minutes after me** get acknowledged, served water, and offered coffee while I continued to sit there without any attention. The staff repeatedly walked past my table on their way to the kitchen. I noticed several of them look directly toward my table, yet no one stopped to acknowledge me or provide service. At that point, it was very difficult not to feel as though I was being intentionally overlooked. When I spoke with the manager, she explained that there were internal issues between the waitstaff that were contributing to the problem in my section. I understand that restaurants can have internal staffing challenges, but those issues should never become the customer's problem. Whatever was happening behind the scenes, I was the customer sitting there without service. I also want to be honest about something that made this experience particularly uncomfortable. I was the only person of my race that I noticed in the restaurant. I cannot say with certainty that race had anything to do with how I was treated, and I don't want to make an accusation without evidence. However, **I can say how the experience made me feel**. I felt ignored, overlooked, and singled out. Customer Service Index (CSI), customer satisfaction, and reviews are extremely important to businesses and their corporate offices. Experiences like this are exactly how a restaurant loses a customer who otherwise may have returned and recommended the establishment to others. I don't expect special treatment. I expect the same basic courtesy and level of service that every customer deserves: a greeting, acknowledgment, water, coffee, and reasonable attention after being seated. Unfortunately, that did not happen today, and it completely ruined what should have been an enjoyable breakfast experience. I hope management and the corporate office take this seriously--not simply as one unhappy customer's complaint, but as an opportunity to examine what happened, why it happened, and how situations like this can be prevented in the future. read more

The hubs ordered pancakes and bacon, whereas I ordered the classic breakfast (multi-grain toast, egg whites, roasted potatoes and turkey sausage). I ate a good portion of my meal and gave my hubby the rest. The food was tasty and filled our hunger spots. Brittany, our server, greeted us immediately as the hostess sat us in a booth. While she was rather quiet, she attended to our every need. Lunch crowd was large. No matter what time you arrive at First Watch, there will likely be a crowd. Following up our last amazing trip to a different First Watch we had very high hopes for the Research Boulevard location. However, what we experienced was a disorganized meal marred by slow, inattentive service. We arrived with a party of 4 and were seated quickly upon arrival, waiting no more than 3-5 min. We were on the waitlist beforehand so that's probably why the wait was a bit shorter as we got seated before others who were already there. It was busy which is nice to see on a Sunday morning and the restaurant itself is clean and open. Once we were seated we ordered pretty quickly. We got a good amount of items: pancakes, French toast, bacon, breakfast potatoes, their seasonal chimichurri hash, and cheese grits. The food, like last time, was great. Fluffy pancakes, perfect French toast and bacon, savory potatoes and their seasonal hash; every bite was a good one during the meal. What was frustrating and ultimately changed the direction of the meal though was the inattentive service. We had our plates cleared after eating our appetizer of blueberry cornbread (forgot to mention earlier but it was also delicious) and some of our forks were taken during that plate clearing. That would be the last time we had forks for about 20 minutes. When our food arrived we literally did not have anything to eat it with and when we asked a runner if she could grab us more she said she'd let our server know. Unfortunately our server must've never gotten told because we had to walk up to the kitchen and ask for more forks ourselves. We also asked for more butter and that took a while to come out as well. By the end of the meal we were happy with our food but left dissatisfied by the service. As good as First Watch is, we understand that it will vary by location. This location seemed to be a miss for us but that won't be enough to keep us away. We'll be back at some point to another location, but probably not this one, which is unfortunate as it's the closest one to us and in a great location. read more

I have never had a bad or a mediocre breakfast from First Watch. Always, always have had the most delicious breakfast. I am not a coffee drinker but every so often I do get a coffee and it is so darn good absolutely enjoyed it. My server Joshua, was so kind. He poured my coffee for me, and left the carafe of coffee for me to refill my own. He let me look over the menu for a few minutes and then came back. I gave him my order. Biscuits and eggs. I also added a side of bacon. Only a few minutes went by and my food was sitting in front of me, piping hot. I can't even describe how delicious everything was. The biscuits, who ever makes these is a genius. How are they so fluffy inside with just a very slight crunch on the outside then they're smothered in turkey sausage gravy. It's epic. Mind blowing. Bacon, that's cooked to perfection. There are people who like crispy bacon, and then there are people who like it done right. And First Watch does it right. It's crispy, but not crunchy crispy. Still a little soft and chewy. Eggs, I asked for fried over medium, and that's exactly how they came out. Soft, a little runny, but not too runny. Perfect. I eat eggs daily and they were cooked just like I cook them at home. The hash brown potatoes were great too. Firm and crisp on the outside but firm/soft inside. They didn't fall apart when I stuck my fork in them. They still held together nicely. Was pretty quiet this morning. The day after Christmas and it was pretty early still when I got there. I was trying to figure out how to do a Google review. And Joshua was so kind to help me. The service at this location is always great. This last time we had Alexis serve us and she was wonderful. The food is great depending on what you order. I've tried the smoked salmon eggs benedict which was very good and low calorie. This last time I tried the new seasonal item BLT and it missed the mark. Another note about the food here is that most items are very calorie heavy but they're made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. I've been to this location of First Watch twice and the food is OK. I appreciate that they offer gluten free bread. I like their freshly squeezed juices. The rice Krispy treats are soft and deliciously gooey. I placed a to go order. Minus one star because I had asked for no chili aioli. But I did want the non spicy garlic aioli in the sandwich. The server said she would put the chili aioli on the side. I ended up with no chili aioli on the side and no garlic aioli in the sandwich. It was just a dry sandwich. read more

The chicken sausage was amazing as usual. The tacos were large, stuffed to overflowing but kind of bland. If the chicken or chorizo hahad spice you couldn't taste it. The ham was also good. Shana tried the black beans as she prefers them and they were ok. She got fresh market veggie oomelet and stated it was delightful and that the eggs were fluffy af. The staff was pleasant and fast. Less Christmas decor at this place then others. The alcohol is VERY limited so keep that in mind. It is usually busy but we got lucky and had a less busy time. First Watch is a great place to get breakfast, brunch, and / or lunch, however after several terrible experiences at this location, we will never be back here. We made a reservation online, and arrived to find the host table was tucked away, so we tried to talk to the cashier who ignored us multiple times. We decided it was best to get in line and wait with those who were waiting to pay for their meal. As we started to get in line, the cashier who ignored us happily greeted two parties right in back of us, back to back and got them seated right away. When we tried to get help from someone else, but they stated the cashier will help us. It was clear they did not care to help everyone like us, just the people they wanted, so we left. I have no idea why they would treat us like this but we hope it doesn't happen to anyone else. We do not recommend this location, and we will never back ourselves. read more

I would place this restaurant at about the same level as Applebee's. Food is generically inoffensive and fine without ever rising to the level of good. The service was excellent right up until the end when I went to the counter to pay and was completely ignored for quite some time. The restaurant itself was very very cold. It's a giant cavernous space and I'm sure quite hard to heat, and we were there pretty early so maybe things just hadn't warmed up yet. Also would have helped if I had asked not to be seated next to the windows. That's my fault. read more

If you are coming here to dine... you might want to rethink that. I have been to "First Watch" at other locations and enjoyed their food so we decided to try this location. I'm sure I'll never be back. For starters, there is no way to get your name on a waitlist from the Yelp app. I know other restaurants have this ability but you have to go to their website to "get in line". We tried to do this from home but their website wasn't loading so we just figured to walk in. When we arrived (before 10am) they said it would be 20-30 minutes. Perfectly acceptable... but it ended up being 55 minutes and that wasn't until we went up and reminded them we had been waiting and many had been seated before us. So, "1 Star" for the wait and ability to get a table. Once seated, it took 15 minutes before any even came to our table to greet us. And when someone finally did, although this person was friendly, it was just to take a drink order and then left. We have now been here for almost an hour and a half and we are very familiar with the menu. He was aware of our long wait and should have anticipated we were ready to order but only took drink orders and again, disappeared for quite some time - we only ordered iced tea and juice so I don't know the reason the long disappearance. When we finally got to order our meals, I asked if they could do a special order. The server nicely enough said it depended on what I wanted. I explained how I wanted an egg white scramble with mushrooms, spinach and feta cheese with sourdough toast and for an extra, we ordered the million dollar bacon. It should be no surprise but it was another 40 minutes before we received our meals and this wasn't without having to ask someone when they thought our food might be ready. When the food arrived, I thought it was a joke. I was given a small cold plate with scrambled egg whites on the side. Next to it was a side of sautéed spinach and mushrooms. Another small plate had one slice of cold dry sourdough. It was apparently toasted, but it must have been hours ago because it was as cold as loaf of bread from a grocery store... and it was dry (no butter). I'm sure someone thought because I ordered egg whites I would want dry toast but then you should have included butter on the side. However, if I want dry toast... why would you sauté my mushrooms and spinach in butter!?! And this isn't even mentioning there was no feta cheese. The meal I ordered is just a slight variation of the "Tri-Athlete" breakfast. But that meal comes on a full plate with a side of fruit and house preserves for the toast. I never said anything about wanting this ala carte and I have ordered this same meal at many a restaurant throughout the U.S. and have never had it served this way. After delivering the food, the server disappeared without refilling our drinks or checking to see if we were satisfied. The next time we saw him was when he dropped off the check. No food is worth a two hour experience. Clearly they are short staffed but that's a management problem. I've worked in food service when I was younger so I'm very familiar with how it works. There were many tables that were routinely empty and yet a line of people going out the door. Your website, while functional, doesn't provide the option right on Yelp to get on waitlist like so many other restaurants. The first time we ate at a First Watch, the wait was minimal and the food good and fresh. This location was anything but. Food served on cold plates? Have you ever heard of plate warmers? Pretty common in the restaurant industry. If you are going to serve me dry toast without asking... how about asking if I want butter on the side or just brining it to me. And because I ordered a meal with special ingredients, doesn't mean I want them all individually and I have to assemble myself. I cooked for eight years in restaurants so if you need someone to come and educate them on how to make a simple egg scramble, happy to share my experience. My current favorite breakfast spot. Also if you sign up for the email newsletter, you'll receive a free birthday meal. I'm a huge fan of the Project Sunrise coffee (which you can also buy by the pound, and I did) The food is always great, super fresh, and they're very accommodating with requests. For example, my friend wanted the burrito on the seasonal menu but wanted everything inside rather than "wet" as advertised and they were happy to do it. Be prepared to wait for a table, I recommend downloading their app and that way you can put yourself on the list ahead of time and alleviate some of the wait time. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because we had to wait a while to get a to-go box, and the bathrooms were dirty. Otherwise another great experience. read more
