Zero stars would be the rating if I could. And well deserved. RUN, do not walk, from this establishment. This is not a problem with day to day service, or of the staff at the local branch. The corporate office is messed up. I brought in a leather coat (worn one time) of my daughters, which was destroyed in a fire at their sub-contractor. It was a gift to my daughter from her fiance. From the start, despite vague promises to "do right" by me, it was clear that the corporate office was going to string me out, and make reimbursement difficult. 1) Although they told me more than once that "of course" my compensation would not be limited to whatever insurance claim there would be, that story changed after I was forced to wade through their insurace process - and the $135 the insurance adjuster disallowed as "normal wear and tear" (on a two-week old coat?) became something they couldn't pay. 2) Early on they admitted that they had only three or four items in with the subcontractor, yet insisted that we all had to await the insurance. Why couldn't they simply pay us and then let the STORE deal with the subs insurance? Is was, in truth, their claim, after all. Good question. No good answer. With only three or four items, this could not have been a cash flow issue. (And if it was, it's yet ANOTHER reason to run from this chain). The end result? After months of hassle, I got 70% of the claim, no more from the store, and a big "sucks to be you" from corporate. So now, I'm taking my $50 a month business that I've had with them for 13 years somewhere else. And you should too, before this happens to you. read more

I received the most beautiful scarf in the world as a Christmas present. I was wearing it while enjoying a grande Espresso Truffle at the Starbucks on Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase, MD. Normally, I take my scarf off since I'm prone to spillage...but I didn't on Thursday. And of course, the next thing I know, there are 3 chocolate/coffee dots on my beautiful cashmere Burberry scarf. In a panic, I dab the marks. No luck. Luckily my friend, an expert in the fine art of caring for cashmere, is with me. Can't use water; can't do much; so what do we do? Find a dry cleaner, asap. Right across the street from the scene of the crime, virtually hidden behind a few shops, lies Galaxie Cleaners No. 3. So, I frantically run across 6 lanes of traffic, in the hopes of salvation. Admittedly, the location and decor leave much to be desired, and I was hesitant and incredulous after leaving my scarf in their care. I even contemplated returning to just deal with the stains (which would be unnoticeable if I flipped the way I wear my scarf) so that it wouldn't be ruined. I was plagued by horror stories on the internet about scarves at other dry cleaners which returned worse than before, holes in fine fabrics, and items which had been "misplaced." My scarf would be ready the next day at 5pm...and boy, what is ever. When I returned, the fabulous store clerk remembered me, even before seeing my ticket, and retrieved my scarf. It was perfect again. Not only had they managed to get the stains out, it was neatly hanging the proper way, and they had pinned their label through the instructions label, not the scarf itself. That's proper service. While I've only had 1 experience at this dry cleaners, I will definitely return...and hopefully not because of more spillage. read more

I have used this drycleaners for YEARS - 15 in total. And only once have I had a problem. My daughter's leather coat was burned in a fire in November at their facility. Since then it's been one runaround after another to get reimbursed. They appear at the corporate office to be of the view that I must wait until they resolve their claim with their subcontractor. Thanks, guys! Now my daughter is out the coat AND the money, and you have decided that you will not pony up to YOUR obligation to repay ME. I could give two figs what you get out of your subcontactor - that's your problem. AVOID THIS ENTIRE CHAIN AT ALL COSTS. THE CORPORATE OFFICE ARE SCHMUCKS. read more

Cheap but they damaged a bunch of my shirts. They actually managed to chip several buttons and another one was ripped off.

I was here earlier to drop off my clothes for same day cleaning and the old man was so rude and mean he seemed sick and irritated. Very dismissive. read more

Do not walk but RUN from this establishment. The store clerk took a $998.00 Elie Tahari lambskin leather jacket, stuffed it in a cloth laundry bag, and threw it on the floor. I decided I would not patron this business after what I saw. I instructed two employees, including the manager, to put my garments on hold. Despite this, the garments went for cleaning. As if that was not bad enough. I drove two hours on the Beltway to discover my garments were not ready as promised. AVOID GALAXIE CLEANERS AT ALL COSTS. I took a wool suit (skirt and jacket) to come get cleaned. The suit is very bright turquoise in color and both pieces had a huge brown unidentified stain (I had just purchased it from a thrift shop). I was a bit worried about the colors fading or the stain being permanent. I picked up the suit 4 days later and the stain was almost completely gone, the color on the suit still bright, and the musty smell from the suit completely gone. I was very happy with the quality of the cleaning, and they even let me pick up my suit despite forgetting my dry cleaning ticket! The only downside is that it's a bit pricy here. They charge a flat fee of $8 per piece. But if you need something expensive dry-cleaned and don't want to risk it getting damaged, Galaxie would be a good choice. read more

This dry cleaners is wrong on so many levels: 1) They charge $2.38 per shirt for laundry(!). 2) The clerk - the woman who is there all the time - when you put your-to-be-cleaned clothes on the counter, asks "How many?" This is the only dry cleaning store IN MY LIFE where I've seen them not do the counting themselves. What's up with this?? 3) I brought in 2 items for very minor tailoring work (one button each!) late one week and the shirts were promised for the NEXT Friday (I wasn't in a hurry, so I said fine.). I went in today (the promised Friday) and the woman said they weren't ready yet and that she'd put it in for the required work YESTERDAY and that I could come back later this afternoon. Gave me a song and dance about the seamstress having trouble matching buttons even though both shirts HAD extras of the correct button. CLUELESS, OVERPRICED, SLOW - STAY AWAY read more

After recently wearing two dresses which were cleaned when the weather got cold, I discovered that they had not been cleaned well. My black sheath dress still had some deodorant under the arms and my silk dress began to smell after I wore it for an hour and warmed it up. Each dress was about $15 to "clean." Although my sweaters were packaged well after their "cleaning," they were not entirely clean. I won't go back even though they're close to my residence. read more

They lost a pair of wool slacks only the second time I used Galaxie Cleaners. Six months later -- and after a whole lot of blaming ME ("usually customers bring in more than one item") and having me fill out forms on the loss and agreeing reluctantly to letting them "work it off" rather than give me the value of my slacks -- I got a whole bunch of lip when I complained that staff had almost refused to let me have my next batch -- $82 worth of cleaning -- without paying. This, when the pants were, quite conservatively, valued at $112 by me. "Charlie," the manager, said "We're done. You've got your value." When I said that I was still owed $30, either in cash or services. His insults grew. Needless to say, I'll cut my losses and go somewhere else. Awful. read more

Very rude and dismissive which is interesting since there are several cleaning establishments within a couple blocks of each other. I'll try someone else.
