There are a lot of dry cleaners out there, but the ladies who run this shop are always very happy to see you. Makes a big difference!

I had a really mixed experience here with the two different dresses I had altered. The first dress…read moreturned out wonderfully. I was initially impressed that she did not try to upsell me for alterations I didn't need. I will note, however, that i had to come back multiple times before getting everything done properly. For example, the first time she forgot to hem the under layer of my dress, so then I had to drive all the way back to Bethesda to pick it up again once she had done that. She also forgot to cut my veil to length. The second dress I had altered here was admittedly at the last minute. At first, I was just glad she could get to it with my wedding just a few weeks away. However, in hindsight, I wish she would have simply said she couldn't get it done in time. I had asked for the dress to be taken in, but somehow she totally altered the shape of the dress. She removed detailing around the bodice (I think to remove a weird lump, but she wound up changing the whole shilloutte). Then she somehow made the skirt far more voluminous. When I took the dress to a second seamstress for alterations, she was shocked at how bad of a job was done and told me I had to go back to elegant alterations and bridal and demand they fix it, as it was such a hack job I shouldn't have to pay someone else to fix it. Of course, Elegant Alterations and Bridal refused. She said because I didn't complain at the time of receiving the dress, it was too late and she did nothing wrong. At the time of the service, I did note the change, but she told me nothing could be done, and I had initially accepted it. But then once I got home and had more time to really look, I wondered why she had to change the shape and sought a second opinion. And that's when I realized she ruined my dress because she rushed. TLDR: She can do a wonderful job given enough time, and won't try to upsell you (although you may have to come back multiple times). However, don't trust her with a last minute job.

Mary is so kind and accommodating…read more She did an amazing job with my designer jeans. You would never know they were hemmed. She's masterful at original hems. Would def recommend!

I just picked up my suit from Kenwood today. I would say that overall my experience was just fine!…read moreI found the place using google maps--it's close to my house. I called ahead and asked if I needed an appointment. No, first come first serve. I took my suit in and tried it on and the shop owner (as far as I know, the only person who works here), looked at it for about 30 seconds, pinning some fabric together. He then told me that it would take about 6 days to alter the suit jacket. That it would cost $40, that he only accepted cash or personal check, and that he would not call when it were finished, though I could call him to confirm. So I went to pick it up today (7 days later, brought my cash). It was ready. The owner is very polite if you ask me. When I got home I tried on the jacket and it fit much better than before tailoring, so I am satisfied with the fitting. I am also very satisfied with the stitching and alternations. I could not find any evidence that it had been altered. It's my sense that the tailor does very good work. If you don't know what you need done with your clothing, and you just want a professional opinion, then this is not exactly the best place to go. I had to tell him specifically what I didn't like about my suit jacket before he considered tailoring it. I went with four stars because of this, and because when I arrived, I think the tailor/owner was on a lunch break, and he seemed a little rushed with me. Though I am kind of an awkward person, hah. Another commenter brought up cleanliness of the shop. My clothes had about five loose threads on them when I got them home. It took me two second to brush them off. The shop is a little cluttered, but if the work is good (which it is), then it doesn't matter, so I think.

Mr. Tufeckgian is a fabulous tailor. He can do serious tailoring (my boyfriend gets his suits done…read morethere) but I went to him with three pairs of jeans that just needed hemming. He took my measurements quickly without rushing me, and was very friendly. He told me they'd be ready in a week - reasonable, in my opinion, for a one-man operation. I picked them up yesterday and all three jeans are hemmed perfectly. And affordably - $20 per pair. Just be warned: he doesn't take credit cards, so bring your checkbook.
