Kim's Alterations - Can you provide an estimate to hem this dress?

You're gonna pay a lot, but your clothes will be perfect!!! She's beyond talented and there's…read morenothing she can't fix. I've worked with her more than once and I can never tell where she made the alterations which I think is amazing! If you're afraid of being seen naked, maybe not for you/ there's not changing room. But she's so calm and she's not bothered either.

If I could give zero or negative stars, I would. Avoid this place like the plague! my daughter took…read morein a dress for a simple hemming job. There was no lining, no ruffles, no tulle--just a hem. After Kim--who operates in her apartment and not a storefront that she makes us think she is in--told her that the price would be $170 cash, my daughter told her she is a student and can't afford that, could she please have the dress back. The dress was only $80. Kim refused. She said, "No, I do service. Give me $30 cash for sitting fee! " It took her all of 5 minutes to pin the dress up. This is not posted nor did Kim tell her there was a fee. We got on the phone (we are out of state) and offered her $100--still ridiculous. She refused. This went back and forth with us on the phone and Kim muttering in Korean. My daughter begged. No dice. So we told my daughter to call the police, which she did while she camped out in this woman's apartment. Kim also pushed her! My daughter offered to give her $10. This went on for a long time, but my daughter demanded that she give her the dress before she gave her the dress, which was now in a different room. Finally, the police came and got her the dress back, but she still got the $10 from her--and she took out the pins! Kim is a crook, I'll bet she has no occupational license since she is doing this cash business--no taxes. Run--fast and far!

In march 2015, i took a $3000 YSL leather jacket for a cleaning. when i picked it up the leather coat shrunk significantly. i asked Mrs. Kim for refund on the cleaning cost, and $1000 store credit, since the jacket was used, and i liked their work. She initially claimed jacket was like that, but i produced photos of me in jacket, and she then promised to stretch it back to original. Two weeks later, the stretching did not work, and i asked for a store credit again, Mrs. Kim refused, and gave me the phone number of Bruno, a leather specialist in NJ that cleaned my coat. Bruno asked me for all information and photos, which he received, and then he stopped answering my calls. However on April 27, 2015, i received a very unbiased letter from Nacional Cleaners Association stating that in their opinion my jacket was cleaned properly, and they don't know how my coat went from size 44 to size 40. On June 12, 2015, i wrote a letter to President Valet II, i demanded payment for $1999, which was current Ebay price for this jacket, and advised them of my intentions to sue in small claims court and to contact consumer protection agencies. Today i stopped in to pick up another batch of dry-cleaning, which i paid for, and i asked the status of my claim. Mrs Kim advised that she filed an insurance claim, but could not tell me when and how much i will be paid. i tried to explain to her that she needs to pay me regardless, and deal with the insurance claim later. And then Mr. Kim came out from the back... Mr. Jeong He Kim in a raised voice told me that he is done talking to me and done reading my letters and in an aggressive manner asked me to leave.

I was initially impressed that she did not try to upsell me for alterations I didn't need. I will note, however, that i had to come back multiple times before getting everything done properly. For example, the first time she forgot to hem the under layer of my dress, so then I had to drive all the way back to Bethesda to pick it up again once she had done that. She also forgot to cut my veil to length. The second dress I had altered here was admittedly at the last minute. At first, I was just glad she could get to it with my wedding just a few weeks away. However, in hindsight, I wish she would have simply said she couldn't get it done in time. I had asked for the dress to be taken in, but somehow she totally altered the shape of the dress. She removed detailing around the bodice (I think to remove a weird lump, but she wound up changing the whole shilloutte). Then she somehow made the skirt far more voluminous. When I took the dress to a second seamstress for alterations, she was shocked at how bad of a job was done and told me I had to go back to elegant alterations and bridal and demand they fix it, as it was such a hack job I shouldn't have to pay someone else to fix it. Of course, Elegant Alterations and Bridal refused. She said because I didn't complain at the time of receiving the dress, it was too late and she did nothing wrong. At the time of the service, I did note the change, but she told me nothing could be done, and I had initially accepted it. But then once I got home and had more time to really look, I wondered why she had to change the shape and sought a second opinion. And that's when I realized she ruined my dress because she rushed. TLDR: She can do a wonderful job given enough time, and won't try to upsell you (although you may have to come back multiple times). However, don't trust her with a last minute job.
