I came across this place scrolling through Yelp and Google reviews. I needed to have an athletic wear jacket taken in to be more fitted. After pinning the jacket to my body to fit my specifications they said they could do it. 2 weeks later I go to pick it up, it's half completed and not as tight as I requested. A week later, I come back, and while the torso and sleeves are good, the cuffs are uneven and unchanged. This made a weird gap from the wrist to the remainder of the arm. I asked if it could be fixed but they told me "it's impossible given the original seams". So 3/5, majority was well done, but I wish that they had been more honest with me about the limits to my jacket. Now it's 80% there and I can't do anything about it on my own. read more

I can't recommend My Sewing Studio highly enough! Olga did a beautiful job altering my wedding dress! Olga's workmanship was very precise. The dress fit me perfectly by the end, and I felt beautiful in it. She was also very responsive to what I was looking for: she made little adjustments at the end to ensure the dress fitted me exactly as desired. Olga was very professional and responsive. After my first fitting, we discussed the schedule for alterations and approximately when each fitting would take place. Olga stuck to that schedule and the dress was finished well ahead of my wedding day. I appreciated all of my interactions with Olga. She was very kind and warm: exactly the person you would want to work with to prepare your wedding dress. She took a lot of stress out of a potentially overwhelming process. I just had a holiday sheath dress hemmed here, and the dress length looks great. I am, however, in a bit of a state of sticker shock at the price. My dress is polyester with a liner (so two layers) and was turned around in 6 days -- purely a hem shortening, no other alterations made, and the cost was $90. I've never paid so much for a simple hem, even when I lived in Tyson's Corner. The quality is excellent, I just can't believe the cost. read more

Olga was amazing. The work on my Navy Dinner Dress Uniform was phenomenal and reasonably priced. I was leery at first, because when I dropped it off she looked at the uniform and put in all the pins in about 20-30 seconds and said "OK, when do you need it by?". I did not think there was any way she could make fit exactly how I wanted/needed with only 20 seconds of me wearing it, but I was wrong. My daughter paid $400 dollars for a wedding dress alteration this summer (2018). When she went to pick it up - Olga changed the back of the dress so it was very different from the original look. My daughter was upset so Olga changed it back as close as she could get it. My daughter was upset because she wasn't asked about the change. Olga fixed it so it was back close to the original. I'll give her credit for that - but she should have discussed changing something like the back of a wedding dress. She also added thick cups - even though the dress already had boning and a built in bra. My daughter is 23 and should have been more forceful -or I should have been involved. But then again shouldn't the seamstress do a good -or even excellent job without coaching from the clients? Meghan, my daughter told me the seamstress had offered to take up the dress in the shoulders. My daughter was so happy to have the back fairly well fixed back to the original. - and her wedding was approaching ..... so she took it home. When she first brought it home I didn't think it looked right but I wasn't sure why - and my daughter only tried it on quickly and decided she had to come back with her shoes to really decide if it was okay. The second time she tried it on- with NEW higher shoes because the dress was too long after the alteration - was only 3 weeks until the wedding. She walked around at length and we decided it did not look good. She could have returned to the shop to have Olga try again, but I said taking up the shoulders didn't seem like it would fix the dress. Plus the woman's had done a piss poor job the two times she already worked on it. It was too long (even with the much higher shoes my daughter bought after the "alteration")- and seemed saggy. We brought it to Sharon's Creative Sewing in Damascus. She had hemmed my dress and had some interesting WW I uniform copies she was making. She had been recommended to me by a friend and I could see she is very talented. Sharon took one look at it and said. "It's too big. And do you want those big cups in there?" She took in a good inch on each side after taking out the cups which changed my daughters figure! And she hemmed it - even with the higher shoes my daughter bought after her alteration from Olga wearing lower shoes. -And she had to take in tulle on the sides to get the wedding gown tightly enough. When my daughter asked for a refund of $ 200/400 based , Olga refused. She said my daughter should have come back to her. She said she had done what she said she would and so should keep the full amount paid. Really?!? I thought we paid $400 to get Meghan's dream wedding dressed altered so it looked nice when she wore it. Really - Take it back to the woman who SHOULD have taken the dress in an inch on each side, along with an inch or two on the bottom. And who stuck in fake cups to hide the fact it was too big? And who Meghan contracted to alter the dress - not mess up the back and fail to make it fit properly. She did a terrible job on a very expensive dress and then didn't make good by at least refunding some of the money. I see she has positive reviews, so maybe this was a fluke. BUT I would NOT trust this woman with my expensive wedding gown. Again - not sure why she did wrong by my daughter with all of the positive reviews. My profile is my daughter with her beautiful Liancarlo gown - altered beautifully by someone else who charged 1/4 of what My Sewing Studio did. Just a heads up - Sharon's Creative Sewing is not right in Damascus. It is a rural area right outside and is not pristine. There is lots of thread and dog fur around the ground. Both of our dresses were clean and perfectly altered when we got them. And my friend was also happy with her suit alterations. BUT Sharon's isn't as pretty as Olga's. I guess pretty is as pretty does. read more

I'm a couple months late in doing my review, but better late than never . I had a wedding (Hawaiian themed) at the very beginning of April. As a late shopper I had to grab the first pair of linen pants that looked good. Unfortunately I'm short and the pants I bought were a little long. Olga was able to get the pants at just the right length and even took them in a little at the leg. Will definitely be back to have her do more work! Thanks again! read more

We picked up a rental suit for my husband on Friday night before a wedding where he was groomsmen. We were horrified to see the seam had ripped in a really obvious spot. So glad he bothered to try it on! I called MSS an hour before closing, and she promised to have it ready by 10:30 am for pictures the next day!
