This might be the start of an addiction... I popped into this store on a day out and immediately fell in love with the wonderful music and beautiful vibe. The selection of dresses is truly amazing with representation of good brands from the 70s-early 2000s, lots of sizes, and variety of patterns. The quality and upkeep is clear in every piece. They also have a good selection of jewelry, jeans, and tops which I'll be coming back for. The owner clearly takes a lot of pride in the store as it is beautiful and clean. She also mentioned that all pieces are carefully dry cleaned and ironed; making them great additions to any wardrobe. read more

I'm livid because I drove up from Virginia to be able to go here today. I planned my whole weekend around being able to come to this shop! Turns out their posted hours on every single website I could find (Yelp, Google Maps, their own Facebook page, etc) have the incorrect hours posted! Everywhere said they were open every day from 12-6pm. When I got up to the shop (after braving all the traffic and nearby parking deck to get here), I found the place dark and locked up tight. The sign in the window said "Open", and then below it had the REAL hours posted....they're only open from 12-6 on Saturday and Sunday! For goodness sake, update your websites! read more

Only one staff member (wore a mask) seen in the entire store which is fine since it wasn't that busy on a Sunday afternoon. The entire place was very clean and organized which made the shopping experience less stressful. There weren't any social distancing markers noted in the store which was my only concern given how small this place is and the pandemic. All in all, a fine establishment that has a variety of clothing and accessory options for people of all ages. read more

I thought Venus had closed but was thrilled to stumble upon the store again in December, relocated to Patrick Street. This is such a cute, quirky little vintage clothing store that wins my heart each time. It's a fun and lighthearted store, and each piece has a little joke on the price tag -- and the prices seem pretty reasonable to me. I never understood the appeal of "ugly sweater" parties but there are certainly some gems here that make me reconsider :-) read more

I enjoyed browsing and buying here last weekend with a friend. The shop associate was really helpful and later Jennifer the owner arrived and told me a little back story about the white hot pants I bought with anchor themed buttons. Apparently the woman who owned them had quite a riot of a wardrobe and when she passed away her husband brought in many of her old clothes. Some items were corporate and businesslike, others reminiscent of the studio 54 era. I can't wait to wear my shorts this summer when I am tanned and shed my winter hibernation weight :O I mentioned how my mother loves vintage and showed Jennifer a picture of this gorgeous silk robe she has and wears as outerwear and Jennifer encouraged me to email her so she could keep an eye out for any pieces she might have or will acquire in the future. Will definitely be back next time I am in the area. Great selection and like other yelpers mentioned there are funny phrases or captions on each price tag. They also have accessories, luggage, home decor, and jewelry in addition to menswear and women's clothing. read more

One of the best vintage and thrift shops I've ever been in. For a curated vintage selection, the prices are very reasonable. I got a beautiful pleated midi skirt for fall for $45 and a gorgeous pair of rhinestone and faux pearl large hoops from the 50s fo $30. What I really appreciated was the range in sizes, I'm 6 feet tall and a 10/12 modern sizing (which is like a 14/16 vintage), and it is really typical for me to walk into a vintage clothing shop and not be able to fit into anything in the store. Here, there were SO many options! If you're not looking for clothes, there are many accessories too. Owner couldn't be nicer, gave me her card. This is a great shop for any avid vintage clothing collector! I was unable to purchase anything since I had been shopping elsewhere all day - I would've bought everything! The shop owner is so nice! Make sure to spark up a conversation with her. As someone who shops pretty regularly (daily) for vintage 1940-1960 clothing, these items are under priced. I've been here a few times. And it's just a fantastic place to shop for vintage. The owner is engaging, bubbly, and helpful. It's authentic and genuine help that makes shopping enjoyable. I found this awesome dress for a wedding I was invited to. It was a 1950s dress that was in excellent condition; a black top and a flowery skirt. I received so many compliments and I sent them all to Venus on the Half Shell. And when I'm in town, I'm always enticed to go in, they have fabulous windows display of vintage envy. This is the nicest vintage clothing boutique I've been to in terms of size of selection, variety, and display. Good selection of sizes and both men and women's wear. Most clothing I saw was 60's-80's. Prices are on the higher end, but still affordable. Clothes were in good condition. I had a few dresses I wanted to try on and maybe buy, but there was only one designated curtained dressing area and one woman occupying it for the 15+ minutes I was in the store while a five person deep queue was forming at the back of the store and no indication of wrapping it up anytime soon. Looked like there would be space to erect a 2nd dressing "room," which may be needed since there is so much cool stuff to try on. read more

Tiny boutique downtown Frederick that specializes in vintage and retro pieces... their vintage dressed look fabulous.. they also have accessories such as shoes, hats, purses, and jewelry.. Alexa is right, this is a great place to find vintage clothing, shoes and accessories. I didn't find their prices to be really outside what I expected for vintage clothing. Some things were defiantly overpriced, but much more was such a steal. I wish I still lived closer so that I could shop here more often. The staff was so helpful and very nice. My best friend and I have been going to Venus on the Half Shell since we were in high school in the 90's, and it's still just as great as it was back then! The owner is super-friendly and has a fantastic sense of both style & humor - each piece has a personalized hilarious comment hand-written on its tag. Just about everything I want to buy from this store (including dresses) is in the $30-40 range, which I find extremely reasonable. She's moved the shop from Market to Patrick Street and is also selling old furniture these days. A must for vintage-lovers! read more

One of the best spots in Frederick! The owner Jennifer is a pure delight and if you love vintage this is definitely one of the best vintage handbag and vintage jewelry stores I have ever been in. I just picked up a vintage coach bag with the tags still on it. I have been looking for one like this for years and here it is! I also have bought gorgeous and fun jewelry pieces, and once found a really sweet rhinestone lipstick case for my sister for her birthday. I was fabagasted to find a vintage store with such an amazing collection of merchandise. It is obvious the owner is exstreamly knowledgeable and passionate about her product. I have experienced such stores in London and new York but with that comes a hefty price tag also! The clothing is in good condition and the prices are very reasonable.
