I love shopping at this little boutique. Even though I'm of a certain age and a lot of the clothes lean a bit younger, I manage to find some great basic pieces and still like to look at the fun pieces I wish I could still wear. Their window displays are always gorgeous. They carry Z Supply, Pistola, Steve Madden, Free People and Free People Movement, a few Spiritual Gangster items and many more. You can catch really good sales too. The staff are always so friendly and helpful and Erycka goes over and beyond for her customers. I would recommend paying close attention to the return policy - 14 day returns within 7 days full refund and 14 days store credit. I was unaware when I purchased and tried to return an expensive sweater I was never going to wear but they were kind enough to give me a store credit despite being 2 days outside of the return policy. read more

Cute trendy store filled with mostly Free People clothing. A little pricy, but it's at least eclectic and not the standard H&M/Forever 21 crap. However, trying to find a sales person to help you is a Herculean task that I just wasn't up to dealing with. velvet lounge is expensive, yes, but they have a lot of eclectic and fashionable items there. they carry a great selection of Free People and Obey, which are two brands I can only usually find online. I bought a fantastic Obey jacket for about $150 which was worth the money. everything in there is worth spending a little extra on but it's good to maybe get a staple piece and do the rest of your wardrobe shopping elsewhere. my only complaint is one day we showed up at opening time and no one was there, we were actually in a hurry and had to be somewhere. we decided to stop over at Pitcrew for a few minutes and wait to see if they opened. a young girl showed up about 30 minutes later and seemed very tired and grumpy that she was even there. we had to rush. i don't know if this is a common occurence here but it was annoying! read more

It's like Groundhog's Day - a year ago I visited this adorable shop and was summarily ignored by the staff, even with $600 of merchandise in my hands. Today, I decided to give the store another chance - especially since I LOVE Free People. Once again, the staff didn't acknowledge my presence. One staff member was waiting on a customer, and the other was lazily leaning on the counter. And once again I walked out, saying, "And another visit without even a hello..." Overall, the store isn't my style. As everyone says, they carry tons of Free People and similar brands that are too boho for me. However, I enjoy browsing through the store, especially the accessories section. I even saw a Rebecca Minkoff bag once- imagine that in Frederick! What I love about VL is the sale section! You'd think a pricy store like this would only mark stuff down 10 or 20% but nope, when something's on sale here the prices are marked down to rock bottom! In the spring, I got what I think is a pretty unique Obey letterman jacket for $30 when it was originally over $100. This past weekend they had a sidewalk sale and I scored Toms wedges for $24. They had regular Toms as low as $13! read more

The Velvet Lounge Boutique is a wonderful boutique! I went in here on Wednesday, and the atmosphere of the store is feminine. the sales associate was friendly and she gave me some useful advice about TOMS shoes because I was making my very first purchase of TOMS shoes. The sales associate was very nice and the transaction went very well. The thing I don't like about this boutique is that they don't carry plus sizes, which is a bummer, however, I plan to buy more TOMS shoes from this store. read more

I would have loved to try on some of the gorgeous jeans and boots in the store but my daughter and I were utterly ignored by the two sales associates on duty - literally not a word of acknowledgment from either of them and we were the ONLY customers in the store on a quiet Thursday afternoon. Such a shame, because there were some lovely things I would have seriously considered purchasing. I encourage the store owner to rethink her customer relations strategies. Awww I remember this store being totally vintage, so when I walked in to find it had changed into a boutique I was a bit sad. Of course be prepared to pay boutique prices as well, the clothing was very cute and I saw several pieces I liked, but not enough for the price tag. I was lucky because when I checked the clearance rack I scored a $70 shirt for $18, hells yea! Can't wait to return when I'm in the area. read more

My favorite clothing store downtown Frederick since high school! My mom would let me get something from the sale items most of the time when we stopped in here so this place always holds a soft spot for me:) Velvet lounge definitely has a boho style (e.g. Free people, Volcom, etc.) and it's fairly expensive. Regardless of the prices it's always fun to look around. You can usually find something cute in the sale area or I find I'm willing to splurge on something most of the time because of the unique style. read more

Great store for small town Frederick. Where else can you get cool new styles with the friendliest service around. Those girls are so very sweet and make you feel so welcomed. I've been going to Velvet Lounge ever since it was a tiny little store down the street that sold Paul Frank tees and Emily the Strange. My style has changed tremendously since then but it almost seems like Velvet Lounge changed with me and that's what makes it my favorite store. I love all of the unique clothes they have to offer. April and Erycka are always so sweet and help me find the cutest, most flattering clothes and I'm ever so thankful for them. I have to say my all time favorite things they offer are the hand-picked Free People clothes and Freebird boots! I've never had an issue with the quality and price of the clothing here--there's expensive stuff and there's affordable stuff, but there's also amazing sales happening all the time. Even if it's too expensive for your taste, you can always find super cute clothes for great prices on the sale rack. I don't even want to know how much money I've spent here but it's always worth it to me because I'm supporting local business and an amazing boutique all at once. read more

Myy favorite boutique! They always have the latest new Free People which is my favorite brand. There are lots of great brands here that most people in the Frederick area have to drive obscenely far away to buy. Hudson Jeans are here too I wish I could buy them all. Super chic spot! I recently moved to Frederick from the Tyson's area in VA, and needless to say I have been missing my old shopping spots. I was so excited when I stumbled across Velvet Lounge because they carry unique pieces that would otherwise be impossible to find in this area. It's no surprise they were ranked #1 in Women's Clothing in the recent Best of Frederick contest. They have pricier items for sure, but they always have something for everyone. If you sign up for their emails they'll let you know about the sales they have, which is great. My only complaint is that I would love for them to have more inventory! I totally understand that space and demand are probably contributing factors to their inventory size, but their buyer just has such great taste that it's hard to not want more! Especially shoes and candles, if you're reading this VL :) I've always received friendly and not pushy service from the staff. Keep on doing what you're doing, Velvet Lounge! read more
