Emporium is a fun and rather huge antique store located in Frederick's historic district…read more In addition to furniture, Emporium also has a whole section devoted to books and other printed collectibles. Recently there, I snagged a framed 10" x 12" Christmas card signed by President Johnson and his wife Lady Bird at a very very good price. I consider this card precious because President Johnson was, you know, the guy that enacted the Civil Rights Act, Voting Rights Act, Medicare and Medicaid. A president that actually wanted to (and did!) improve the lives of all Americans. When you see manicured landscaping in interstate cloverleaves, that was Lady Bird Johnson's idea.

You can het little things or whole pieces of furniture. I got more accent pieces but believe me I am very willing to go again and buy way more. The employees were amused by my very audible gasp. When I first walked into the store. I absolutely loved every minute in there. In the back of the store was their more thrift section as well as clothes.

True to its name, they sell vintage items from old furniture, clothes (in the back), postcards, and more. There are so many treasures! This Antique Marketplace is large and in charge. I literally can't believe I've never been here…read moreuntil recently. When antiquing in Frederick, I usually tend to stick to the downtown corridor. A fatal flaw Apparently, there are large and plentiful antique stores outside of the downtown corridor. Who knew!? I only had a little bit of time to go through, so I can't wait to go back and go through with more of a fine tooth comb. I ended up getting a very nice art deco wooden box and a WW2 uniform. I was sort of thinking about last minute halloween costumes honestly ( it was right before Halloween when I went). I ended up defaulting to my Star Trek costume though lol. Much more comfortable. I will say, it took me QUITE a long time to check out. There was a group of four people ahead of me, they were all together, but they did different transactions. With the system that the cashier has, it really takes a long time to process each item it seems. Maybe something they might want to consider adjusting to just streamline the check out process. I really think I was waiting about 20+ minutes to check out. Overall, I'd like to go back. I'll just make sure to leave a much longer period of time to be able to look through the store properly... and also to check out lol. Note: Most of the stuff in here isn't really finer antiques. This is more mid range stuff, and I can't imagine if you're a collector that you won't find something.

Why does this one woman in particular want people to leave a 12" x 9" bag with her - that by the way is no bigger than the sign posted on the door? Many of the items here are fantastically historic, and for that they are worth a pretty penny is some cases. But from what I see it is ALL reasonable priced considering the work that goes into getting these pieces to you, & restoring them to a functional condition. & mind you, this is a family owned business! I'll pay some extra cash to support an establishment such as this before any big run of the mill store. We need more places like this! I found an authentic Dutch bassinet, likely 100 yrs old, in fantastic condition for only $60! I plan to use it for my newborn! This store & warehouse is RAW! and a great experience, seriously like a museum except everything is for sale! how cool! Owners/staff are very very nice. I will 100% be coming back here & bringing my family! Please consider visiting this establishment before purchasing from other big name stores!

If you are in need of some 1920's-40's looking industrial creations though, they have some of that stuff, but not much exciting anymore. My sister used to bring home all kinds of interesting pieces, but alas, I found nothing interesting that fit my needs.
