During a visit to Frederick a few weeks ago, my friend and I spent some time wandering around Emporium Antiques! It's a really large shop - it kept going on and on and more and more hallways to large rooms kept appearing out of nowhere! So, it has a lot of inventory! There's a little bit of everything here, and the inventory covers a lot of price points. My 17 year old son and I love to check out antique places. Everything has a story behind it! Emporium Antiques is nothing I expected - I couldn't believe how big it was! And there were little coves that displayed everything from Christmas decor to Hummel figurines to beautiful china, civil war type memorabilia. And just when you thought it would end, you turn a corner and it continued! And don't forget downstairs. My son and I thought maybe this is where bulky furniture or larger items were stored. Nope! It's just like the upstairs. You could seriously spend more than 2 hours in here looking and admiring what is on display. Idk who the woman was who was working at the time (we went in a Sunday - we were up from DC for a family wedding) - anyway, she was so kind and very helpful. I truly urge anyone who is interested in antiques or just wants to take a look at historical memorabilia to check it out. My son and I have been to many in the DC area and Frederick MD, and he said this is probably one of the best if not the best one he's come across. And for a 17 year old to impress, that IS impressive. And I concur with his opinions lol. read more

You could spend a whole day here & not even realize it. So much amazing stuff! Beautiful antiques, cool mid century furniture, incredible books - I love it all! Large store, with consignment items and booths set up with antiques. I purchased 2 antique cameras from this store, in very good condition. My only issue with this store was the restrooms were closed,even for customers. I understand that they are trying to avoid large amounts of people using their restrooms, but when you spend money on their merchandise a bathroom is expected. Overall, I would come back to the store as the employees were very helpful and nice and the antiques varied. read more

You'd be fooled into thinking no that this would be a small shop. It's front on Patrick Street is that if a normal shop. So you'd thhinj you'd be in and out within ten minutes. However this place is like the tardis. It actually goes for half a block. Thus you can spend over an hour in here. More if you ant to look at every shelf, every showcase etc. As for the variety? You've got classic magazines, toys, ornaments to fine antique furniture. If you can pic crude something, there is a good chance that this place either has it or has had it in the past. Heck they even hadd a floor standing oil lamp that was akin to a standard lamp. I wanted it, but decided to sleep on it. My mistake! I love walking through here. But I'm of the age where antiquing is a hobby and not a nightmare. I do wish they had more parking. It's street only, which can be hard to find on weekends. read more

My wife and I love taking daytrips to Frederick for antiquing. And Emporium is Antiques is always on our list to hit up. Emporium Antiques is huge with several different sections. It has a couple different entrances and usually has plenty of street parking nearby. Keep in mind, each booth is different vendors so of course pricing will vary depending on whatever booth you are in. We have found some really fabulous pieces here from little decorative pieces, wall art, gorgeous frames and furniture. The employees are super helpful with bringing heavier items out to your car. They had pretty good COVID protocols in place during the earlier stages of reopening, which I appreciate. read more

Emporium Antiques in Frederick, Maryland is one of my all time favorite antique shops. We visited Emporium Antiques this past weekend. I have been to this shop numerous times over the years. They have so much to take in. Just when you think you have almost finished looking at everything, you realize oh that was just the first building - there are more buildings connected with more and more antiques and vintage items to check out. As with most antique malls there are antiques and there are vintage items mixed in, but this place get that mix right. The prices are varied. There are very few bargains here but you will see a few. Most items are priced fairly. You can easily spend a few hours in here. Pace yourself. I promise you this place has so much stuff that when you will see things you should pick them up, otherwise you may forget where they are in the shop later. Street parking. Clean bathrooms. Some of the clerks are very nice and some are a bit salty. We went back in to buy an item near closing time that we saw earlier in the day and they shut the lights out ten minutes before closing time which was unexpected. I highly recommend Emporium Antiques just because I love all of the memories I have of shopping here over the years. Also I will take some photos and post them next time I visit. I am surprised how few photos there are posted for this place since it has been in business for literally decades. Emporium Antiques is the largest antiques store I've ever been into. Things that you could probably fit in Emporium Antiques 1. A private jet 2. A Transformer (post transformation) 3. A zord or possibly 2-3 zords connected. 4. 10-15 regular sized antique stores 5. 1 million gallons of jello (cause hey... why not?) The store has over 100 dealers that are consigning there, and there are several sections and entrances. If you want to quickly drop into an Antique Store and look around, this is not the place for you. You will get sucked in by a force comparable to that of a black hole. You need to make time for this B. And it's probably good to be on a mission as well. Think of it as the Matrix. All of the small booths are pretty well filled with goodies. Some consigners are much more reasonable on prices then others, so my best recommendation is to find a booth where you find the prices are fair and then go through that booth with a fine tooth comb. Preferably a Antique Sterling Silver Art Nouveau comb... but any comb will do. There is a wide selection; but for the most part, furniture and selections are more traditional style than they are mid century or modern. Things you can find at Emporium Antiques: 1. Fiestaware 2. Old Tins 3. Clocks 4. Barrister Bookcases 5. Oil paintings 6. Christmas Decorations 7. Plate holders and plate hangers 8. Silver everything 9. Large furniture 10. Larger furniture 11. Old Crates 12. Vintage toys 13. Barware 14. Rugs 15. Ceramics 16. Bookends 17. Old retail displays and the list goes on and on and on... There are 3-4 large sections of the store... make sure to find the Narnia like openings to the new sections to explore it's entirety. You might think you're walking into another store... but don't worry, you're still in emporium antiques. It just goes on forever. read more

This is no small antique shop, it is huge and spacious! It is also pretty organized compared to ones I've seen before. You can find a variety of antiques here, and depending on what your looking for, you may leave with something amazing! I went in looking for vintage electronics, but they only had a select few. Nice antique mall located in downtown Frederick, MD. Lots of interesting booths to explore, some have good deals, some ok. You can ask for some off and they will offer (depending on booth) and the amount. There is the incredible book section towards the back side of the store on the side street. Great selection! I'm not sure what the building used to be but floors are a little uneven when walking. There is also a booth that sells ribbon by the bolt, excellent deal. This place is insaneeeeee. So many interesting things to look at. Basically it's a bunch of individual vendor spots all with varying collections of antiques and interesting finds. Because of that, prices can be inconsistent (some vendors grossly overcharge) but hey, browsing old junk and just debating the value of stuff is fun in itself. The building is huge. You'd never know from the storefront. But it's like a warehouse that has been divided into sections. So if you're someone who likes to take your time, you could easily spend at least a couple of hours in here. Books, silverware, old military uniforms, furniture, knick knacks, statues, pottery, paintings, whatever. It's all here. If you're someone who's down with Antiques Roadshow, this will be your heaven. Check this place out. (My latest purchase, although not antique) is a brand new old-school Schwinn for like half of retail price. Just one example of random cool stuff you can find. read more

Multiple times while walking around here I thought, "wait, there's more?!. It's a very cute spot full of diverse booths, many of which were on the pricier side but there's definitely something for everyone! They also do consignment where I found my treasure, an old wall clock with a floral painted design and a long pendulum. Definitely a must visit! read more

Great selection of antiques. Prices are set by the dealers who have space inside, so they vary from moderate to a little on the pricey/over-priced side, but most of the stuff is in great condition so it just depends on how much you're willing to spend. Too bad the employees are horrible! I walked up to the counter today with an armful of future purchases and a smile on my face, and the woman near the counter was working with another customer and told me so in a blustery voice, like I was inconveniencing her by waiting to check out. She hollered at another employee with increasing ire, and when the other woman got to the front counter, she looked at me, confused, and asked the first woman why she had called her up. I asked if a price on something was negotiable (not an altogether unreasonable question) and she looked me right in the eye and rudely said, "No, the price is what it is. There's no sale there. But it's your choice to buy them or not. So are you getting them?" read more

55,000 square feet of antiques. What the hell more can you ask for, Antique lovers?! Seriously, this place is HUGE and every nook and cranny of this antique english muffin is jam packed with stuff. They have everything from artwork (a great place to buy vintage frames for prints), cookingware (hello, remember the Corningware that's stove top friendly and only $5!), jewelry, and furniture. That's just scratching the surface my antique loving friends. Just. Scratching. The. Surface. Honestly, based on the selection and prices, this is absolutely worth a special trip from DC/Southern MD/Virginia. I will be shocked if you come here and can't find a a single thing you like. PS: Parents with small children - this place is alarmingly large, so please keep an eye on your kids. I saw many (ill-behaved) kids jumping on antique furniture (which let's face it, isn't always the sturdiest), running from vendor to vendor, hiding behind furniture, and walking on tabletops. For your sanity and everyone else's, please don't let your kids run free here - they WILL get lost! Fantastic variety of antiques. How much of a bargain they are, varies widely as the prices are set by individual vendors. Some of the stuff that's been there a long time may be a bit dusty, but overall, as others have said, it's clean. The staff are very helpful. We saw something we liked that didn't have prices on it, and the lady at the front desk contacted the seller to try to get the price (which it turns out hadn't even been decided on yet). The time that took, though, freed us up to go wandering a bit more. We found a fantastic deal on a dining room set. (Even factoring in the time it would take me to do a few minor repairs it needed.) They would hold it for us (for up to two weeks), without any additional charge. When we showed up a week later with a rented cargo van, they helped us load it up. When we got it all home and unloaded, we realized there was a small part missing, that previously had been thought not to be part of the set. I called the Emporium and they quickly found it and sent it to us. If you're anywhere near Frederick MD, and looking for antiques or even more recent stuff that someone's getting rid of on a consignment basis, or just want to stroll through a fascinating array of assorted stuff, give them a visit! read more

Awesome antique store in the main are of downtown Frederick. Website says it's 55K square feet, and it definitely seems that way. Place just seems to keep on going. And, definitely a little bit of everything from old Time magazines to military history collectibles. The place is so big if you see something in a stall that needs to be taken out of a case you have to call the front desk on your cell and let them know where you are. Here's the bottom line... Emporium has an awesome array of antiques. Something for all tastes. Whenever I have friends visit from out-of-town, I be sure to take them here. However..... prices really are QUITE high. Certain booth spaces, I've seen the same things for literally years. I guess they can afford to let things sit but it doesn't look good to have the same things for YEARS and if it's not selling, mark it down and get it moving... I've found a couple things here over the last 6 or 7 years of shopping but honestly it is better to just go up the street to Cannon Hill or even Salvation Army on East Street. My favorite stop in Frederick! My husband and I have had a really nice time exploring this place on days off. So much to check out. Among the things we have found here: vintage cameras and a Navy WWII ship's telescope, Venetian glass and American art pottery. The bookstall has an amazing curated collection of never used books. The staff is helpful and often will inquire if the dealer can offer a better price. These kinds of stores are becoming rare and the Emporium is a great example of what a good antique mall can be. read more

While this place has a good selection of diverse antiques, the staff here is dishonest. We bought an antique inkblot a few days ago that had a metallic base and a glass jar. The clerk gave it to his colleague to wrap (their protocol--not our request) and this other man shattered the glass, taped it together, wordlessly wrapped the purchase anyway and gave it to us! I usually find something I like for the price but most things I see I like are slightly higher than I want to pay.

It is one of our favorite places as they have great stuff. We are repeat buyers and go there often. It would earn 5 stars for what they sell but the employees themselves (especially those older ones) deserve one star. They are really doing the store a disservice with their bad attitude and rudeness toward their customers, at the end of the day. Another yelper mentioned similar comment last month. This continues this evening. We overheard an older lady employee mention something really rude to a group of 3 generation family from out of state. The customer was taken aback and felt hurt. We were ready to purchase a group of 4 paintings only to be told to leave the store even before 5 pm and the cashier has closed for the day. Owner - if you are reading this, it's time to clean house of those rude employees who seem not to have any interest in bringing income to the store's bottom line. read more

Good stuff and fair prices but customer service is the worst. Found a great chest of drawers and went out to pull my truck around to load it up. Returned to the shop at 5:01 and they were closed. Pounded on the door and was told they were closed and that they could not help me even though I wanted to buy a $300 dresser. I hope the dealers who are paying rent understand what is going on. It's a very nice antiques mall and I recommend a visit, but I get the distinct impression that the employees, as nice and courteous as they are, don't much like their jobs. Certainly none of them seems invested in getting patrons to spend money. They close early every chance they get and they can't wait to get out of the place on other days. They also accept only local checks, and for a place that's at the center of a 4-state metro area, that's kind of weird. read more

Pretty Cool place that I enjoyed walking around. They had a nice selection of older books that focused on American History, Time magazines, and other old magazines. The furniture is pretty nice yet tacky. I believe the price seems a bit high but I think most antique stores charge too much. I would recommend stopping in and walking around. My problem is with the help. I had some questions about Victorian furniture in one of the few "shops" with real antiques. I could find no one to help me. I noticed a wall phone with instructions to call the desk and mention the location and someone would arrive to help. Nope! No one ever came by. So I walked up to the main desk at the street entrance, but could never get anyone's attention. One employee was helping with a purchase and another one was on the phone the entire time. Meanwhile there was a line. Maybe going on a week day is a better bet. I wonder how much business the dealers are missing due to the staff? read more
