A new restaurant that replaces the old Pot & Noodle. As the name implies, there seems to be a good amount of dumplings and dim sum style dishes on the menu. Seems they have some fancy dishes too, but I was just trying a bunch of the smaller bites and 3 such small dishes were more than filling! Shanghai Beancurd Leaf Rolls: Wow, this is pretty darn good for vegan. Many, many layers of thin yuba where each layer is infused with an umami salty sauce that softens it up while making it taste great. And in the middle, a bunch of chopped up mushroom pieces. The texture and taste make this so addictive. Pan-fried Pork Soup Bao: It feels like in the past 3-5 years, these pan-fried soup dumplings are appearing everywhere. To be honest, I kinda like this more than the traditional soft and delicate xiaolong bao. Theirs has that nice sturdy dough where you don't have to worry about any "soup" leaking out in tiny tears. The top part is soft like a steamed dumpling and the bottom part is crispy like a potsticker. The "soup" is full of porky goodness. The ground pork is tender and flavorful too. The vinegar on the side helps counter the richness a bit. Pancake With Beef: While I can appreciate the OG scallion pancake, these rolls are so much better. The cold beef slices give it a good dose of protein and chewier texture. The hoisin sauce adds a nice sweetness and some moisture. The fresh romaine lettuce adds a great freshness to it. Absolutely loved this place! Went back a week later too! I got this recommended to me by a vegetarian friend which was surprising for a hot pot place but we were not disappointed. We ordered two hot pots (one veg one non-veg), vegetable dumplings, pan fried pork soup bao, mapo tofu, string beans, chong qing numbing spice noodles, the chocolate baos, and a pot of jasmine tea. This was perfect to share among 7 people and the staff brought everything out quickly. The noodles were my favorite and the chocolate bao was the most underwhelming. Sorry, I thought the "viral" crab lo mein was disgusting. I only ate a few bites and couldn't eat anymore. No server came by to check on me, which was really annoying and so I couldn't order something else. I tried to tell the server when they finally came around with the bill and basically they just said sorry and shrugged. I sat alone at the counter which would have been ok but it's literally in the entry way so I kept getting bumped by everyone walking by. It felt a little dirty a sticky and I wanted to wipe everything down. It's kinda pricy so this was an expensive and very disappointing lunch. Wow! We just happened on this place and it was sooooo good! We were going to go to House of Nan Kong but there was a line outside. I tell you Fusion Dumpling is so much better than House of Nan King. We had the orange chicken and it was so tasty. We also had the king Pau chicken and that was soooooo good. The appetizers too! The dumplings and green onion pancake to die for. Hidden in a tiny hole in the wall in Chinatown, it is easy to overlook this restaurant since it shares Jackson street with many other famous Chinese restaurants. However, one would be remiss to skip over Fusion Dumpling since the food is not only great, the service was attentive (not even just by Chinese restaurant standards!), the dishes were incredibly Instagrammable, and the prices were fair especially for the portion and quality. The dishes were almost built for photos, with extremely elaborate settings, some of which even uses props to make it seem like the noodles are flying. Personally, I care more about how the food tastes, and on that front Fusion Dumpling definitely delivers. The a4 wagyu cubes are so good I will come out to Chinatown just for them. The sizzling plate gave it a wonderful charring and activates your sense of smell even before the dish reaches the table. The fact that they were only $32 dollars is insane, especially since I have had similar dishes in SF for $50. The cheese corn dumpling was really creamy, and the walnut shrimp was delicious as well. Another personal highlight is the halibut with pickled pepper. Not only was the halibut super fresh, the seasoning instantly brought me back to Hong Kong, where I have tried a similar dish. A little bit spicy but huge on flavor, this is my wife's favorite dish hands down. Chinatown is packed with history, especially for those of us who grew up in the neighborhood in the '60's and '70's. Another location with a storied history of memorable restaurants, it's changed owners and cuisines a number of times. In the '60's and '70's, this was a popular spot for traditional Cantonese food family style named Song Hay Restaurant. The front dining area served small families and couples with booth tables while the back dining room had five to six banquet size tables. When the owner retired, another memorable restaurant assumed this space named Ping Yuen Restaurant. This was a crossover restaurant servicing Chinese style western food besides Chinese rice plate and noodles options. The last memorable business was ABC, a combination restaurant and bakery. The last time that I dined here, it was a satellite spot from that Szechuan rice noodle restaurant on Kearny Street. My friend dined here with coworkers and wasn't particularly impressed except for commenting that prices seemed higher than nearby businesses. Walking in on a Friday a little after noon, there was only one occupied table and the counter section was empty. Dining alone, I chose the final seat on the counter by the greeting stand. I studied the menu and knew I wanted to get a light bite to accompany a bowl of noodles. Please excuse the photos as I believe the lighting at the counter made the tint of my meal a pink color as opposed to the red color that it was. The broth was very tomato-ey... is that a word?... and not the least bit spicy. The short rib was chocked with meat that fell right off that dinosaur bone. My only caution is, in finishing the broth in the bottom of the bowl, be careful of bone chips that you could choke or crack a tooth on. Use your tongue judiciously to weed those out. The mala was a nice surprise. I noticed all of the tables had induction burners for hot pots which is another reason that I chose the counter which did not have them. In asking for a box for my remaining wontons, I recognized one of the waiters who used to work at a now closed business that was down the block. He shared with me that their menu pivoted with the hot pot portion, offering prepared boiling pot meals delivered from the kitchen like that Clement Street spot. The name was what drew me into this place. The Mandarin name 土包子 essentially has the same meaning of bumpkins. Not sure if they intentionally named it like this but it definitely caught my attention! The seats near the entrance have bao-shaped cushions on them, but they gave us a table towards the inside of the restaurant and we didn't have those cute cushions. We ordered the Sweet & Sour Spare Ribs, Chicken w/ Explosive Chili Pepper, Dong-Po Pork Belly, and Seasonal Vegetables. The dish that surprised me the most was the Chicken w/ Explosive Chili Pepper. As someone that has a baby level of spice tolerance, I was originally really afraid to try that (Why did I even agree with ordering that in the first place???). But it was absolutely amazing and I liked it so much that I even tried replicating it at home. They told me they're owned by the same owner of Chong Qing Xiao Mian, and there are some overlapping in the menu items, especially in the Noodles & Rice section. Pan fried pork soup bao... best thing I've eaten in a long time. The mix between delicious pastry and succulent soup bao was unbelievable. Was only in San Fran for the day and not in glad we stopped here. We got a couple other dishes that were great as well but this was the star by far. BFF and I decided to give this place a try. The restaurant looks clean and nice in the dining area. We ordered a pot of tea, $6, pork XLB $15, which was by far the best tasting dish of the 3, Shanghai sticky rice which was overpriced at 3 for $9 and we didn't like it and Pan fried pork soup bao, $16. The soup in the XLB was very tasty but if you don't eat it all quickly when it's hot, a cold XLB isn't very good. I've had better pan fried pork soup bao elsewhere. Service was not great. He took our orders and never returned to check on us and we had to flag him down to add more hot water to the concentrated tea pot. At one point he charged off without allowing us to ask a question. There were only 6 other customers in the restaurant so it wasn't that busy. The bathrooms are downstairs and not very clean. The garbage bin was full as if it hadn't been emptied from the day prior. What I least liked was the nickel and dime charges on the bill. Our meal was already $45.85 before tax and tip. We couldn't finish about 3 pieces and asked for a box to take the rest home. Then we see a charge of 25 cents and 30 cents on the bill which was in Chinese and we had to ask what that was for. We were told it was for the take out container and bag. Aside from the tax, there is a 3.5% SF Mandate. By the time we add the tip, it's over $60 for lunch. Not on our list to make a return visit. read more

Presentation and taste were fantastic however I would definitely skip out on the fried rice, lomein and the XLB as these dishes were just meh. The service and staff were great but definitely not coming back after I watched a server use the same gloves to wipe spilled stuff on the floor then go pick up food to serve. We all tried each other's soup and agreed the broth was severely lacking in flavor. The noodle quality also tasted cheap, similar to instant noodles. The dumplings were lacking in meat and the flavor was just not there. I've much better food in Chinatown here and in LA and Vegas. The food tasted like a slightly better PF Chang. Came here on a whim on a weekend evening and was pleasantly surprised! There was a bit of a wait when we walked in but we weee able to get seated rather quickly after agreeing to sit at the bar area. Before getting into the food, I do want to note that the bar area can be a bit tight if you're ordering more than an item per person as the serving vessels here are quite large so you might have to scramble to make room when more dishes arrive. Additionally, it doesn't look like there is much of a waiting area and so people tend to stand waiting right behind the bar seating. Here's what we ordered: Pan Fried Pork Soup Bao (4/5): Super crisp and the bao wasn't too thick! There was a good amount of soup and the filling was flavorful. I do wish there was a bit more filling however. Definitely recommend eating with the vinegar and chili oil. Crab Lo Mein (3.5/5): The presentation for this one was surprising and tbh a little gimmicky but the dish itself was actually quite tasty. The noodles had a good bounce to them and the sauce gave it a silky quality. The flavor of the sauce was a bit more on the subtle side but I liked that they paired it with wakame as it helped bring the flavor out a bit more. Tea Smoked Duck (4/5): Very strong smoke flavor that my partner and I personally enjoyed. The meat was nice and tender, wish there were more meaty pieces! Vermicelli w/ Duck Blood Soup (3.5/5): Honestly not sure if I should rate this one because I only had like 2 bites d/t how much we ordered and because the soup was PIPING hot. Soup had an interesting flavor to it, I'm not sure how to put it but it easily a very comforting flavor. The vermicelli were cooked properly, not too hard but also not mushy. Duck blood was tasty, just wish there was more. Intestine Appetizer (4/5): We started off with this and while small in size it was packed with flavor. Just a hint of spice to cut the richness. The portion seemed to be a bit small however. They seemed to be understaffed the night I went and so service was a bit slow and it took a while to get a menu and get the check.
