Food was ok, service was great with our waiter it was a man very friendly and attentive. Towards the end of our dinner I think he was off and nobody checked on us. We sat 20 minutes waiting until I finally flagged someone down for boxes and a check. We wanted desert but after waiting so long decided to go without. The lady who checked us out, didn't do anything for us, no check in, no water refill, just an attitude but still tipped $5. Since our waiter wasn't there I didn't tip what I would have to him for his great service. She came back to the table and said $5 tip was awful and why we weren't satisfied, I told her she wasn't our waiter and I wasn't going to tip her for what he did she said it doesn't matter, I told her she didn't even earn the $5 and my waiter was off for the day. She was mad but OH WELL. Extremely unprofessional and out of line to be so rude about a tip when she wasn't any help to us or friendly. Spicy pork Soup dumplings were a disappointment, soup needed more flavor but the pork was spicy and flavorful. BBQ Cumin lamb chops were a little salty but good overall, potatoes perfectly roasted. Cheese and corn fried Boa was ok, Cucumber salad was yummy Talked about trying some new things next visit before the lady pissed us off. The fish filet had good spices and tasted good but the fish to batter ratio was severely lacking. There was only a handful of fish and the majority of that dish was fried dough. For the price, I would not recommend. The beef corn and cheese spider roll was alright, but it basically tasted like bread with cheese in it, not much unique flavor besides that. There was also very small amounts of beef in the roll, which could've definitely helped the dish. I also got the Plum juice. I figured this would be a simple choice as plums all mostly taste the same but this drink was absolutely disgusting. It tasted like BBQ sauce. And the flavor stuck onto your tongue even after trying to wash it down with water. DO NOT get it. What I did like -- I did like the spicy pork XLB. I frequent big chain soup dumpling places and these XLB was pleasantly bigger and more flavorful than other places. I would definitely get this again. I hope to see other variants of XLB here as that was the star. Service was adequate, we were severed quickly and the servers were fine. The location was quiet and nice looking as well. Wandered around Chinatown Sunday night because we got hungry after an early dinner. There wasn't much that was left opened. Walked passed this place and then ended up circling back to try it out since it was one of the few that was still open at the time. We ordered xlb, cucumber salad, and sweet and sour spare ribs. Service was quick and everyone was nice and friendly. Vibes were chill and the interior was nice and themed accordingly. Food was okay. I liked the cucumber salad. Spare ribs were a bit too sweet and dry. And I've had better xlb. But overall decent place to grab a quick snack. I have been here many times already and I came back when Daniel Laurie decided to have a Zhu concert on a random Wednesday night in Chinatown. The line was longggg and they were understaffed . The owners were very loud bc they were so busy, I think it would have been better if they just hired more waiters on that day knowing it's going to be busy. Other than that, the food is good! I tried the Chili Fish with Tofu and it's delicious, though I expected more fishes. The Szechuan pepper was pretty strong for me since I don't eat spicy but I still enjoyed the dish a lot despite having to drink lots of water. We also ordered a sweet and sour ribs. Came here end of August mid-afternoon, and got seated promptly, overall the service was a little slow. The inside had a sort of Chinese theme, with booth seating, bar seating, and some long dinner-styled tables available. Now to the main part of this review: the food. In short, it's a lot of show, but not much substance and all for a bit more than I'd like to pay. There was extravagant presentations for the pan fried baos, and giant soup spoons for dumplings (even the not soupy ones). What we got: Pan fried pork soup bao ($17 for 6): presented on a decorative tree and was definitely crispy and very soupy, but surprisingly lacked in pork filling, or any filling (at all) aside from soup and dough. House combo chow mein ($21 for about 2 portions): plated, when it came out it looked and smelled good, but I don't think we ordered a chow fun, since what came out was definitely chow fun, the noodles was a little undercooked/old Pork shrimp and chive dumplings ($14 for 6): came in a tray of 6 spoons, this was average, arguably the most tasty of all of them. General Tso's chicken (strips?) ($21): plated, an interesting choice to use chicken strips, there was lots of peppers but it wasn't spicy Ghiradelli XLBs ($9): very rich, dough was on the thicker side, resulting in a bit chewier texture. Came in a steamer. Crispy garlic fish filet ($25): plated, lots of fried batter, not much garlic flavor, wish it was more garlicky The food wasn't as spectacular as they presented, it had potential on the outside. I don't remember the last time I was flat-out rejected from a restaurant without even being offered the option to wait, but Fusion Dumpling made sure to leave that impression. A man in his 30s approached us and asked how many were in our party. I let him know we had 9 people, including a baby. He immediately said, "Sorry, we can't accept you," because the large table was already in use. Trying to be flexible, I suggested splitting into two tables--but he still refused. His reasoning? That our baby's high chair would "get in the way." Instead of offering a solution or a wait time, he shut us down completely. To make matters worse, he began raising his voice--as if that would help the situation. I had to call him out on his behavior and remind him he was acting unprofessionally. Honestly, it felt like dealing with a child, not a restaurant host. We left shocked and disappointed. With so many great dining options nearby, there's no reason to return here. Family and I were craving for some chinese food and happen to stumble upon Fusion Dumpling and glad we did. Was able to get seated quickly and the system to order food was as simple as it gets. Just mark the laminated menu with a marker and they'll bring it to you. We ordered a plethora of food cause my family and I are some big eaters. The Braised Peking Duck w/ Steamed Bao and Eggplant w/garlic sauce is a must order. Had me feeling all good. Also the Mapa Tofu was great with rice. Pretty spicy tho. The Xiao Long Bao was cooked very well. The theme of the restaurant was very nice too. Had a authentic chinese vibe with a hole in the wall type of feeling. Decided to check this out for dinner with a friend. Overall it's a solid place, but they definitely have a few things they need to work on. The service: The waiter was friendly enough and the food came out pretty fast. However, it took forever for someone to notice we were waiting to be seated. I'm also disappointed that our waiter recommended a large rice for two of us- at that point, we couldn't see the price difference between small ($3) and large ($12) and assumed he knew that large was the better deal for two people. We did not need half the amount of rice that showed up. The vibe: I really liked the set up of the restaurant. It was nice that there were a mix of small and large tables and the decor was nice. It was also near to seat most tables set up for hot pot as well. Crazy mix of options to choose from, but they seem to balance it well. The playing of the food was an interesting contrast to the speak decor. One large plate was served in a shovel. Our rice was served in a bucket. And a bunch of other tables had hot plates for their food. The food: Crab & pork XLB- was my favorite. Great flavors, great soup. It's slightly pricier than it should be in my opinion but was enjoyable. Shanghai sticky rice shumai- this was fairly unique (at least to me). I've never had rice inside a dumpling before and I actually really enjoyed it. My friend was on the fence about it due to texture, but that'll likely be a personal preference. Worth getting to try something new Pork, shrimp, & chive dumplings- I like these. They tasted fresh and homemade. The flavor was a bit too delicate though so I ended up mixing them with some chili oil and vinegar to add some more flavor. They're one of the cheaper dishes (8 for $14) so a good option to fill to table. They won't be the allstar dish for the group, but no one will complain and they'll make sure no one leaves hungry. Black pepper beef- the main dishes at other tables were uniquely presented so we had to try one ourselves. The black pepper beef was present on a hot plate shaped like a shovel, which was interesting and pretty neat. While I did enjoy the beef, I think they could've been a bit more aggressive with seasoning. I ended up mixing in some chili oil for some heat and that really enhanced the dish. Was nice and saucy so perfect to pair with some rice. Overall, it was clear that the food was all cooked from scratch. I left incredibly full and happy I tried the place. But at $60pp after tax/tip, it's definitely on the pricier side for similar cuisine in Chinatown. Might come back again with a larger group to try a wider assortment, but it's not at the top of my list due to the price differential against other places in the area. Chinese food usually taste simple to me but you can literally taste in the food that the chef knows what he or she was doing. The shumai was not great, it was filled with rice and some sauce, lacked taste and was a bit too dry. The BAO was barely ok, the outside was dry ans the filling was hard. Feels like a microwaved dish from any supermarket. The dumplings were ok, but 13$ for 8 was expensive, I wouldn't say it's worth it. The best was the guilin noodles.
