I literally just waiting an hour for a chicken sandwich and waffle fries. The sandwich was missing every ingredient it was supposed to come with except the chicken and bun and the waffle fries were cold. My food came out before the people who ordered before me too, so they were waiting even longer Update: the bread is stale. read more

Really enjoyed this place! I am not a waffle or pancake girl, but I loved the savory options. My family got a little of everything and all were great! I got the bacon, Brie and basil. Very good! My daughter got chocolate chip and they were outstanding! My other daughter got buckwheat with strawberries, bananas, blueberries and whipped cream. While buckwheat is not the best choice for a kid, it was still delicious. I loved the atmosphere and fun vibe. Definitely recommend if you are driving through like us or if you are a local. read more

I recently came to an event at this restaurant and got a great sampling of what they had to offer and couldn't wait to come back. Today we came here and had a delicious lunch. I ordered the Bootsy Brunch. This waffle comes with bacon cooked inside and has eggs and cheese in between both halves of the waffle. I also love the fact that you can request real maple syrup here. They have very large menu with a great selection of funky waffles. You can get waffles thanksgiving style, waffles with chicken, and even waffles with pulled pork! I have tried quite a few of them and I have to say that the Bootsy is currently my favorite. The Jive Turkey is a close second though. The prices are very reasonable and you don't have to get a huge waffle if your not that hungry. They come in half orders too. When it comes to drinks they have fountain soda, water, and some alcohol at the bar. They also have vegan options that are home made! They really do cater to all kinds of tastes here. read more

So amazing!! 6 stars!! The food was delicious, the Bloody Mary was beyond anything I've ever had before. The syrups are good. We enjoyed the hot maple syrup. read more

Honestly, I was not impressed at all with the waffles... maybe I didn't go for the right choice. I'll have to go back and try their other options. Aside from the food, the service wasn't that great either. My overall experience was a strong "EH" read more

This place deserves a five star for actually focusing on what matters: taste! My review is based solely on how my taste buds and tummy felt when I tasted the delicious and well seasoned chicken tenders. I cannot speak for the dine in experience (I did takeout) nor am I a waffle expert. But what I know is that the flavors from the chicken were amazing. And the sauce that came with it was pretty unique. Never tasted anything like it before. It's like a mix of hot sauce and pancake syrup. If you like savory, this is the place for you. The decor inside made me feel cool, which may have enhanced my well being feelings, which in turn heightened my sense of taste! I shall be back for more! read more

I'm trying to give everyone a break because they're struggling. I'm also trying to support local businesses. But.. what's happened to good service and food you are proud of? There were good parts of this meal and normally I love love the food so mistakes happen. I get it. I have no patience for lack of good and friendly service. It's serving the public 101. read more

The chicken here was great! Well-seasoned, crunchy, not too greasy and very tasty. I came here for brunch because Modern Malt had a 30 minute wait. It was around $21 for a full sized chicken & waffles & a banana, honey and walnut waffle. You have the option of getting 1/2 waffle sizes too (awesome!). The waffles aren't too browned and were not too greasy. I like that this restaurant is huge and casual. There is graffiti on the walls, a stage in the 2nd room where the bar is, and some elevated window booth areas. You order at the counter and pick up your own order. You're given a buzzer that notifies you when you're food's ready (about 10 minutes or less for us). For the chicken & waffles, you can choose between tenders or chicken wings (you get more pieces of wings if you choose this option). I chose the chicken wings. I thought the wings tasted delicious. I liked the hot sauce maple syrup dip option they gave. They gave it in a plastic container because it was all pre-packaged. I don't like that the chicken and waffles wasn't done with a traditional chicken breast or thigh but I thought the wings tasted great anyway. The bananas on the sweet waffle were fresh and they weren't skimpy with the walnuts. It would have been nice if the walnuts were toasted or caramelized. I also thought it would have been nicer if the ingredients were somehow incorporated into the waffle itself as well (rather than just tossed on top of the waffle). I saw that they have a lot of cool latte flavors that included lychee (pretty weird for a latte), apple, lavender, peanut butter and amaretto (+ others). They deliver on GrubHub. The place has a grungy vibe to it because of the brick walls, graffiti art, and torn seat cushions. Staff were friendly. The front entrance has booths and the side room has larger tables. read more

I ordered a tomato mozzarella basil sandwich for lunch today it was the saddest sandwich I've ever received. I didn't even want to finish it but the sandwich was a hefty $9 so i forced it. On top of receiving my worst meal in months the customer service was terrible. No napkins, no water, dirty utensils... disgusting. Never coming back. Over priced, dirty, and terrible quality. DINERS BEWARE! After seeing this place on Diners, Drive Ins & Dives, my husband and I decided to give this place a try for Sunday breakfast. Right after we placed our orders and I'm signing my name on the credit card machine, a MOUSE runs out from the kitchen, into the dining hall, turns around and runs right back into the kitchen! I heard the kitchen staff yell "We got another one"! The cashier looked at me and he knew that I saw it. I told him that we ARE NOT eating here and to refund my card, which he did. I was so skeeved out, thinking about mice swimming in waffle batter or munching on fried chicken that is being served to the public. Department of Health...where are you?! read more

A nice hipster cafe for breakfast lover. The interior also gives a jazzy vibe as well.

-Smoked Gouda and Herb Waffle +sour cream 7/10 Very unique & tasty if you like gouda. Thought it very salty at parts (uneven seasoning) & wished the gouda was softer. -Buttermilk Waffle w/ blueberry, strawberry, & whipped cream. 2/10. How did they get buttermilk waffle wrong? It was overly cooked and hard to cut. They charged me extra for the whipped cream and then didn't even add it so i had to go back & prove that I paid for it. The banana was also not ripe--as if green banana served. -Home Fries v good! 9/10 but I am surprised by how small the portion was for $3. I came for local waffle joint experience but I think once was enough for me. For a waffle joint, they could really work on their waffles. read more

I was in Syracuse for the day and decided to give this place a try- I'm not really sure what the hype is about it. It was a good waffle but nothing too spectacular. After standing in line for 20 minutes, we finally realized that their service was semi-serve. I asked an employee where we could sit and he rudely replied "sit wherever you want". Be prepared to wait on yourself, seat yourself and clean up after yourself. The atmosphere was unique, but it was so crowded that we were practically fighting to keep our seats if someone got up from the table. I had the bacon stuffed waffle with bananas, honey and syrup, paired with a black coffee on the side. I probably could have saved time and effort and made the same thing at home. Overall it was a decent experience but not sure if I'll be returning. read more

Wanted to check this place out since I've seen it on tv. Was visiting my daughter at her college for the weekend and put this on my things to list. I came just in time so I did not have a long wait to order the food & my food came pretty quickly. However it did get really crowded before I left. Honestly I wasn't impressed. A lot of choices to choose from which was cool but it was nothing to go out of my way for. The waffles were fresh, served warmed but only tasted okay - no wow factor for me I would eat here again, if in the neighborhood. read more

Went off the diners drive ins and dives website to eat ourselves around Syracuse. This restaurant is nestled in Armory Square, a niche area of the town. You order at the counter either using the overhead tv menus or a printed menu that has all of their options. Try to know what you want ahead of time as there is a line of hungry people behind you! They offer chicken and waffles and chicken tenders or wings added on to any waffle. I had a bacon waffle with honey/banana/peanut butter. The other person had a banana but waffle. Both were good flavor, but I feel like I could make them better at home with my waffle maker. The combinations are fun and it is really hard to decide what to get because they all sound very good. The waffle came out flat which was disappointing. The system they have down clearly is streamlined for money making and good for them to incorporate it into the operations. They do not have servers or bus people so you get your own food off the counter and you bus your own tables. Good for the tourist attraction and if you don't cook. You will wait so plan ahead. read more

I will never be coming back here again. I was so excited to eat here and try something new and was totally disappointed! I ordered the chicken tenders and waffles and the tenders were nothing but breading and then the lady tried to tell me it was a whole tender WHILE I'm looking at other people's plates full of big juicy tenders. Then the cook had a full attitude because I said something about it. This was total BULLSHIT! 20 Bucks for nothing!! read more

What could be better than a waffle? How about a place that specializes in waffles, and has all kinds of flavors and toppings to suit every taste? Um, YES!!! This place is amazing - my guy and I stopped in one night around 11:30, and I decided to try the food after perusing the menu. They have sweet options, and savory options, along fresh milk, shakes, and a full coffee bar. They also had different waffle batters, like banana bread, and whole wheat, as well as some gluten free options. I wasn't super hungry, so I went with half an Aunt Miriam's (strawberry & maple), and a glass of milk. The waffle was absolutely divine, and the strawberries were fresh and sweet. My glass of milk was ice cold, just how I like it. I wolfed down every bite, and enjoyed the sounds of the Grateful Dead cover band next door while I ate. I am so happy I got to experience this place while in town - I hope to be back next time I visit Syracuse! read more

Eh! I love triple D and found this place searching triple D restaurants. We had dogs which they allow outside. So I checked and online said they were open but when we called 5-10 mins away at 3:30 they said last minute decision they'll be closing at 4 so we had to get take out. Hubs got chicken and waffles and i star child. I asked for syrup and butter on side in case was dry and they forgot to put syrup in. So I ended up eating an extremely dry pancake once we got back to our camp site. My Hubs said no worries his was Super dry too he luckily got a side of mashed potatoes to help with dryness. I can appreciate all the vegan options and was so excited to eat here I wish we got to eat in as I bet it would have been completely different experience if they didn't decide to close early. read more

Me and a group of friends went here after finding out Dinosaur BBQ was gonna have a super long wait and I'm honestly glad we did! Cashier was super friendly and complimented me on my hat, we got our food very quickly and had a good time listening to the band while eating. The Pulled Pork Waffle was so good. They have both sweet waffles and savory waffles, and you can build your own if nothing suits your fancy. The atmosphere was also great with the music and the artwork hanging on the wall. This was the 2nd time in 2 weeks we gave it a try. The first we waited over an hour for our food before we had to leave. The second time was a quiet afternoon at 3 before closing. The on line order is tough to do (and a must even if dining in). Dining in is not an option in the order on line website. We were told to indicate curbside and add a note that we were dine in and give a name and they would call us. They did call us up so we could get our drinks then apparently proceeded to bag the rest of the food to go. They put it on the pick up table and never called us up. We only knew the food was ready when we went up again to ask about it. By then it was cold. They did not apologize or offer to make it right. On top of that, the sandwich I ordered, grilled turkey, brie and tomato, was not grilled and unpleasant as served. They also did not make the waffle fries we ordered. The place could be fun but the order system is chaotic and they aren't very helpful. There are a lot of fun options on the menu but I bet we don't go back to try now after these 2 experiences. read more

Ordered the Jive Turkey off their menu from their food truck. I'd never had anything from Funk 'n Waffles but I had heard good things. I was supremely disappointed - the 'waffle' was made of stuffing, which sounds good but it had a cold mashed potato consistency and was mostly void of any flavor. It was topped with mashed potatoes, turkey and gravy - thought those would save the day but they were equally void of flavor and the consistency of the potatoes was less than desirable. Let's just say I'm glad I tossed some hot sauce on it! It's possible that I just got a bad batch - and the chicken and waffles looked and smelled really good so I might try that next time but I was pretty disappointed in my first attempt. Sorry guys - just being honest- hoping for a better experience next time. read more

$10 later and there is 2 chicken nuggets on the chicken tender sandwich. I LOVE!! I got the strawberry and banana waffle with honey. I'm a simple person and I love my fruit. We waited about a half hour as they were very busy but the waffle was amazing and it's so big in couldn't finish it. They have so many options to choose from and they serve coffee including lattes and such as well. I would think if they installed new hardwood floors and got some new tables and chairs etc that it would really brighten the place up and make customers feel that it was cleaner. Ordered take out from Funk 'n Waffles today. Moved to Syracuse at least somewhat recently and finally got around to going to this place, of Guy Fieri fame. I got the chicken and waffle and the "star child" (strawberries and cream, but specially got the brownie batter). My wife got the pulled pork waffle and a "crepe expectations" -- waffle with bananas and nutella. The big problem was that the star child came without the cream, so it was just a chocolate waffle with some strawberries on it. Remember, I ordered pickup and didn't look in the box before I left. That omission really diminished what you saw in the box. The chicken and waffles was just that. Chicken and waffles. They have their own sauce of sorts that I guess is hot sauce and maple syrup. It's an acquired taste. They also provided regular syrup, but it seemed watered down. The chicken was fine and the waffle was fine. The chocolate waffle was an interesting crunch-on-outside and thick interior mix -- somehow seemed richer than it was and I couldn't get through the whole thing. Kept seeming like it was on the dry side. Although the parts seemed decent enough, the sum of them really wasn't achieved. The toppings and the waffles just seemed too separate from each other. Had better strawberry and cream waffles at diners and I'm sure better chicken and waffles can be had further south. Also, for four waffles with toppings, it seemed on the pricier side. Have to say it was disappointing. read more

Come here when you are drunk and hungry for some cheap food. Don't come here for a true, authentic chicken and waffles experience. Pros: Cheap. Waffles were ok. Clean. Nice interior. Good locations to meet up with friends or bring a tindr date so you can get laid w/o spending a ton. Pretty good iced green tea. Decent collection of tea. Decent collection of art work on the wall. I'd like to know if any loser actually bought any of the art work for $180!!! Really? Cons: Waffles were just ok. Pretty sure they use a boxed batter mix. Fried chicken was burnt and dry. Overcooked the fried egg. When you get the plate it doesn't make you think..."that looks good...Let me snap a pic". It's a college town so don't expect your fellow customers to be quiet and polite. Overall it was just ok. Nothing to be excited about. Not recommended for a foodie. Broke? Hungry? Not sure if the chick you're with will put out tonight?? Come to Funk n Waffles! read more

I can't believe they actually delivered me this food. The sandwich had zero cheese on it along with it being burnt.
