My daughter and I were visiting Syracuse and we chose to have our late breakfast at Gracie's Kitchen yesterday because of the positive reviews on Yelp. When we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted by a waitress with the warmest and prettiest smiles. She was friendly and pleasant the entire time we were there. That really was the best way to start our day. We ordered short stacks of pancakes and steak and eggs to share. The aroma from the pancakes and steak immediately made us set a high expectation to the food. The pancakes were fluffy, the steak was cooked to our liking, the home fries were crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. I loved that they offered marble rye bread as one of the toasts choices. It's the first time I had it. Boy, everything about that toast was perfect! We couldn't finish all the food because the portion sizes were huge. It's the best diner food we ever had! Not only that we enjoyed our food, we loved the hometown neighborhood diner decor vibes. My friend had heard about this place so we decided to try it Sunday morning for breakfast. I decided to just have a basic breakfast but we all know that not everyone does it right. Well friends, Gracie's Kitchen does. Eggs over medium, cooked to perfection. No slime or snot and a perfect runny yolk. Bacon, crispy and delicious Homefries, Great flavor! Some crispy bits. I think next time I'll request them a little more crispy. Coffee was good, hot, and quick refills. Servicewas fantastic. Our server was great. The place is cute. A little small but it wasn't busy. In from the Utica area and wanted breakfast. Read a few reviews and decided to give it a try. Do it!!! The place is a good size and love the decor. The food was perfect. Husband said the hash is the best he's had in ages! It is(yes I tested it). It's honestly home made and no one does that anymore. The coffee is always fresh, very friendly service- I've only had traditional breakfast items because they're too delicious for me to try anything else but I suspect all of their food is good! Been here once before but unimpressed. Thought it was time to give it another go. Still unimpressed. The waitress was excellent and the was too but the food wasn't very good. There's nothing difficult about bacon egg and home fries....or so you would think. The home fries which we ordered with onions (we were told it was automatic) had not a single onion in sight. I seem to remember the same complaint last time. My eggs ordered over medium looked like snot! Under done and impossible to pick up. The bacon was a salty variety and not too pleasant. This is a very classic American diner. I love places like this. The parking lot is very small and probably cannot accommodate a very large crowd but this is a small diner anyways so I think it's about the right size for this place. They had cool artwork on the walls that showed us the exact vibe they were going for here. The food menu wasn't overinflated with tons of food, just the basics and essentials. We strolled in around lunch time and were all happy to know they served breakfast all day, as many diners do. I ordered biscuits & gravy, and it was exactly what I wanted. Often times gravy is a too thin, too thick, not flavorful, over seasoned, etc. but, this was as perfect as you can get. Eggs were cooked perfectly to order which sounds easy but truly you don't always get that. The staff was alert and friendly. Orders were taken quickly and food was delivered to the table with haste as well, which all hungry patrons enjoy. I definitely recommend eating here if you haven't been. read more

First off as soon as you walk in it takes forever to get seated, granted it was a Saturday. Ordered a meat lovers omelette that had no cheese and bacon was uncooked. The omelette itself was overdone. Asked for corned beef hash instead of home fries but was given homefries with little pieces of corned beef added in instead which also came with onions which I don't eat or ask for. Took approximately 45 minutes to get new batch without onions but was trying to leave at that point. It literally took an additional 1/2 just to try to pay. Sorry but would not recommend coming here unless you have a few hours to spare and subpar food. read more

Mary Mandolfo, who has owned and operated "The Neighborhood Grind" diner in Nedrow for the past seven years, opened a new diner in February at 527 Charles Ave, in Geddes Plaza in the village of Solvay. The new diner is named "Gracie's Kitchen,'' after Mandolfo's mother. I don't really know how I heard about this place, but I had to drop the wife off somewhere today in the area and figured I'd stop in. The cafe occupies the space formerly taken by The Buzz Cafe, right next to Mo Dough. I walked in about 930 on a Sunday. The place isn't huge, but it's a decent size with a good amount of seating. They only opened about a month or so ago, so there were plenty of seats available, probably still getting new customers in the door. It's a very nicely decorated place. Has a modern rustic design feel to it. I was told I could pick a seat, so I sat and my menu was brought right over to me. They have mostly the usual breakfast items you'll see in other diners. Nothing too crazy or creative. They have a larger lunch/dinner menu, but unlike other diners, they don't serve lunch options at all times of the day. I ordered an orange juice and a half meat lovers frittata. It was made very quickly, probably less than 10 minutes, and was very good. Scrambled eggs stuffed with home fries, sausage, ham, pepperoni and bacon, and I added cheddar cheese on top. Even though I ordered a half, it was still absolutely huge and more than enough for 2 people to have shared, so I took half home with me. Service was fine, the girl who waited on me was nice and polite and checked in appropriately. Price was definitely fair, as it only came to $12 for an orange juice and a meal that'll feed me twice. Get the kitchen together, no one told us the kitchen was 20 minutes behind and when the food came out it was cold in hour wait for nothing.

From the outside door in the plaza it doesn't look like much, but when you walk inside it's much bigger, and the staff give you a welcome greeting that you don't see anymore. The decor was well done with accent walls and modern. Very clean and up to date. They were busy with 2 waitresses on but very attentive and friendly. The food was amazing!! I had the omelet special which was pleasantly surprised was made with real eggs and not that egg better crap. My husband has the homemade hash which was out of this world and my son had eggs pancakes and bacon. Pancakes were very good with like a touch of cinnamon in them. Amazing family meals for take out! We called today to place an order for dinner, after weeks of my sister raving abt how great it is. Today's special was chicken & biscuits with hamburger soup (option of salad, but my kids don't eat plants) & it was absolutely phenomenal. For the four of us, we got the 3-5 serving meal & we definitely have enough leftovers for another dinner. The food was excellent, the soup was great, & we also got slices of pie (per the owner from Harrison Bakery) & that was amazing, too. Saw an ad in the paper and am always looking to.try new places. The omelet was fantastic and home fries the best I had in a long time. The reason for the lower stars was the long wait to to get waited on and also to get the food served. There was only one waitress working the floor. She did her best but they were severally short staffed. I would not recommend going at the busy times unless they get more help. Fix the long wait and they move up to 5 stars !! read more

Used to really enjoy going to Gracie's for lunch or dinner, but lately something has changed. Both wait staff and food are mediocre at best; waitress on the noon shift really leaves a lot to be desired. Rarely see her more than the requisite four times: once for drinks, once for orders, food delivery, bill. I know this is a diner, but at least a check bsvk to mske sure all is ok would be nice. We arrived on a weekday morning there were maybe 5 people there we sat at a table and proceeded to wait for server while those around us were either waiting for their check or refills. We all could see people talking in the kitchen for at least 10 minutes maybe more not cooking or cleaning just talking after a few more minutes we got up and left and went someplace else.
