When visiting new areas I always seek out a fun brunch-style breakfast joint and/or diner that seems to be popular with the locals and I recently came here when in Syracuse. I sat at the counter and my server was great... very friendly and happy I was there. I got there around 7:30AM and it was basically dead, but by the time I left, there was a steady line of folks coming in. Their menu has all the typicals that these places have, many things I enjoy. I tried their corned beef hash (which I requested well-done with jalapeños added), scrambled eggs with cheese, and I also got a side of their breakfast potatoes with sausage gravy on top. The food came out quickly and was piping hot & freshly made. The quantity of potatoes for a single side dish were HUGE! Definitely enough to share. The scrambled eggs were PERFECTLY made! I'm an egg snob, I never want any over-cooked egg visible (no brown) and these were perfectly colored and tasted great. The corned beef hash was good as well. I was craving a little sweet and a little savory this morning and what better place to get that than Stella's? I got the sausage gravy over home fries for the first time and I have never had anything like it - it was warm and salty and had a nice crunch with the cooked home fries. The pancakes were obviously delicious as well. We got helped right away by an amazing server and our food was out within 15 minutes! Great no frills diner that is serving up good food. Western omelette was delicious and a good portion. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the rye toast was. Also enjoyed that hash brown patties were an option as a side. I did find it strange that it was an up charge to add either the patties or home fries on the side of the omelette. Stella's is a favorite for breakfast/brunch when I'm in Syracuse. It's the cutest Betty Boop-themed diner, very casual, seat yourself, come as you are vibes. The food is always delicious. They have home style meals, served in generous ortions. The service is great too - if you order coffee, the servers periodically come by, refill your cup and check on you. I have eaten all across the country and I have not experienced anything else like it anywhere. We have eaten both breakfast and lunch there over the last five days. When you walk in a gal at the register tells you where you can sit with a cheerful voice and immediately upon sitting our server every time was right there to take our drink order and cheerful as well. After bringing the drinks she asked if we were ready to order and if not she gave us a few moments. She also laughed and joked with us but all the while very professional and efficiently done. For breakfast we received a half plate of home fries along with eggs and sausage that were perfectly cooked and very delicious, while we were eating our server checked on us to see if we needed anything else. She would leave the check early and always watched us to see if we were ready to leave and was there immediately to check us out. Each time we had a different server but all took care of us the same way. All the meals were huge and very reasonable on price. Even though the rating system only goes as high as high as five I am rating them a ten on every aspect for service, food and ambiance. This diner is a rare gem to find. If in town you must go there. I do not usually write a review but this was so good it really made me write this. We stopped at Stella's for breakfast after sleeping through the hotel's included breakfast on our road trip (bummer!). But Stella's came recommended by the front desk and was a delight. We didn't know how busy it would be, but pulling into the parking lot we thought we were in for a serious wait. Thankfully, as busy as this place is, they move fast, and a table was ready for us in about 10 minutes. I ordered the Monte Cristo- my first so I have nothing to compare it to, but it was good. Hubby had the veggie burrito and it was huge! Definitely met his appetite, but was lacking in flavor, even with all the vegetables. Medium rare: well done Medium: well done Medium well: well done. Our fries were the same way. One of us asked for extra crispy, one asked for light, all three came out the same color. Somewhere in the middle. More than ought, not exactly crispy. Oh. And I asked for extra onions on my patty melt and for the onions to be well done. Nope. Got the same amount of onions as my friends, and they weren't any more done than anyone else's Meh. Stella's is a Syracuse classic, and traditional diner that gets the job done but isn't my favorite spot despite trying multiple times. Don't get me wrong, the food is exactly what you'd look for in diner food, not groundbreaking but perfect for a large breakfast. My issue here is that it has such a classic diner environment that it feels more like a factory version of the experience than the genuine experience you'd hope for. The servers are extremely busy and efficient, but often lacking the charm that you'd hope for. While they'll gladly fill your coffee as many times as you'd need, they really aren't super friendly in other aspects. They aren't necessarily outwardly rude just a little jarring at times. I will say that I was most recently there with two young kids and I informed our server in advance that we'd have to stay for just over an hour as we were waiting for my sister to pick us up after I flew home for the holidays. She was super understanding about that which I did appreciate! All in all, if you want great diner food check it out, but there are plenty of other options in the area! read more

My fiends and I met there at 9 a.m on a Tuesday and actually didn't have to wait to be seated. Usually there is such a crowd we have to wait at least a little bit. Felt great to be able to walk in and pick a seat. My friends each ordered an omelette and toast. Two of them were huge!! They each took half their meal home. I wasn't as hungry so I got the Monte Cristo. It was really good and just enough. The waitress kept our coffees filled and we had an enjoyable time visiting. They are pretty organized, but there isn't any space to sit and wait if it's cold out. There are lots of choices on the menu and the service was super friendly. You can Bet(ty) your Boop that if I see a diner on the road trip map that I'm putting it on the itinerary. Especially when I need an excuse to use the parking space to visit the antique store next door. We arrived in a 2pm rush, with someone yelling to pick any table with menus on it. Pickings looked slim, but we found a booth and were found by a waitress who asked about drinks, skipping introductions to leave us to our menus. She returned with water and straws, and when we asked her if a fretta was like a breakfast garbage plate, she emphasized that it was not, giving us another minute to mull things over and grab a working tablet. We decided against the risk of something new for an omelet, hoping going the safe route would not be the bland one. The wait time was short, and she came back with two plates, made to our specifications. We had settled on a meatless version, taking out the pepperoni. I don't know if this is why our olives and mushrooms were plenty, to make up for the absence or if they're always this generous. There was even enough mozzarella for a photo worthy cheese pull as we transferred it over. I ended up with more olives in my half, and him the mushrooms, so I didn't need to add any salt. The egg itself was moist, thankfully not soggy from the stuffings. It also had a crisp along the edge. We asked for no butter on our toast, which came perfectly browned with only one riskily darker piece. The table didn't have jelly, but if you're like my mate, stacking your plate onto the bread is the perfect delivery for late afternoon breakfast. Well, almost perfect. The home fries (our waitress insisted that hash browns are for McDonald's) were ordered with onion, yet my mate only unearthed three strands. They were cut like au gratin instead of the usual cube or shred, and while they were plentiful, they were a bit on the bland side. If you're a local, I can see this being a routine stop, but as temporary tourists, we were a bit put off by the need to prompt for refill and that the check came with the food, not after, getting damp during dinner. Stopped in almost a year later and had no regrets. We called ahead for seating due to it being a Sunday and as soon as we arrived; we were seated (party of 6). Our waitress was responsive and attentive. I ordered an omelette w/ spinach, cheese, onions and bacon. I also had home fries w/ toast. Everything tasted so good and compared to last year the portions were bigger. My daughter ordered the Vermont omelette and she loved it. My husband ordered a western omelette w/ a side pancake and he said it was delicious. The crab Benny was also tasty.
