Friends and I went to check out Fun Station. I didn't ask any questions ahead of time because honestly, I didn't even think it was a restaurant when my gf and friend were talking about it because I was definitely doom scrolling on my phone when that discussion was being had. All I paid attention to was that the place is called Fun Station and that we were going to go as soon as they opened. Me. Being an unaware dork: "Should we grab something to eat before we go? Thats lunch time..." We get to the area about an hour before it opens, so we explore a bit aaaaaand fast forward to why you are here! We were already at the front as they unlocked the doors for us. They welcomed us and allowed us to sit anywhere we wanted. It's the little things like first dibs that already make it feel like a special visit! Menu's down. Heh... We were already studying that menu before they even opened the door, my taste buds already talked to the brain department and pepper rice with beef was the wave for me! Waiting for the food to come out, we got to appreciate the little things about this restaurant. Out front just looks like a really basic Asian restaurant. The inside is quaint but you can tell that somebody there has an amazing attention to detail. From matching the woodgrain of the wall trim, to the wood grain design with subtle retro prints within the grain patterns was such a nice touch. I was honestly looking for something to talk down on, but even the stuff hanging on the walls were straight. Personally, I think someone from Michelin should really shop these guys. I dropped my chopsticks while taking these photos. They didn't make much of a noise when they hit the ground, but in under 45 seconds, they were off the ground, and a fresh pair of utensils were carefully placed to my right. Our water never dropped bellow half the glass. Everyone's appearance was neat and the staff was friendly and extremely attentive without being anything that even resembled a bother. --- mid review break --- Geez, I didn't even really get to the food yet! The red and yellow bell pepper added a fresh contrast to the bite. I wasn't too too hungry when the food initially came out, but I tore into faaaast! Our waitress had another bowl of rice in front of me post haste! The only thing that was left on my plate by the end of it was the onions. I'm personally not a big fan of large cut onions in terms of texture, but I do believe it's superior in flavor when cut that way if you're really trying to get the little sweet notes from a white onion, so it wasn't a negative. I don't recommend the Minute Chicken cake noodle since we ordered it for dinner and it may have been waiting to be served for hours as that cake noodle was hard like stiff taffy. We went for lunch and really enjoyed this place, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable of items they carry and gave recommendations which were very good. I had the peppered beef and rice which was very tasty and the meat was very tender and the vegetables were crispy and cooked just right. The fried sesame balls also came out nice and hot 6 pieces for $1.50 just for checking in. My wife had the brisket tendon with noodle soup and the broth was delicious and rich with the flavor of the brisket. I would go again to try the other items on the list. They have shared parking and restroom for all the business in the shopping center, which the restroom was well kept and you need a combination to open the door. The food was delicious! We had the flying noodles, mapo tofu, Mongolian beef(it's sweeter than we've learned to recognize Mongolian beef to be, still yummy), sesame balls, and the wonton soup. We all enjoyed our last dinner on the island before heading home. The staff was very attentive and kind, we had a large party of 6 adults and 4 littles and they were very accommodating to us all. We've been to this place a few times for take out and we live the consistency of their food. I love the won ton soup with look fun. The soft flat noodles give this dish a special twist and the shrimp won ton are tasty. My daughter loves the beef chow fun and her better half always opts for their Pork Belly Intestine Rice. A great locally owned restaurant in Market City. I've been here several times and I feel like I have so much more to try. They're famous for their flying noodles (which I highly recommend). The presentation is iconic and it's sweet/ sour/ salty with pickled veggies. The veggies help cut the savory flavor. I wish the noodles were served warmer, but I think the nature of the presentation makes them around room temp when we got it. I also had the crispy spare ribs, which were much better than I expected. They're kind of like crispy pork chops from other Chinese restaurants. It came tossed with a sweet sauce which elevated it. I could eat the whole plate if left unattended. The beef chow fun was alright. It was a little on the greasier side. Coconut shrimp was nice and crispy, but I personally am not a huge fan of the flavor profile. Overall, I like Fun Station and I will be coming back. They're a little more pricey than the standard Cantonese restaurant, but they have fusion dishes that you won't find at more traditional restaurants. Our families have been coming to either grocery shop or eat at the various restaurants at the Market City Shopping Center for decades because of its convenient location at the gateway to the Kaimukī Kapahulu neighborhoods. We've seen and enjoyed many of the businesses change over the years while Foodland supermarket remains as this shopping center's anchor. During and towards the end of the pandemic, several companies closed but were quickly replaced by other tenants, and that's when we noticed Fun Station in early 2022. After reading reviews from fellow Yelpers and seeing the delicious menu pictures displayed on the storefront's window, our craving for Cantonese-style noodle dishes drew us in. We perused their menu posted on the window and took note of their signature "Flying Noodles" bowls, which feature noodles suspended above the bowl rim, soup, tossed or stir-fried noodles, appetizers, rice bowls or plates, desserts, and soft drinks. We decided on our menu choices before entering the restaurant. When we visited the restaurant, it was between their lunch and dinner peak times, so there weren't any customers. Several workers were eating their meals, but one worker greeted and attended to us upon entry. She brought us menus and asked if we wanted any beverages while giving us a few moments to settle at the table. Looking around the clean and spacious restaurant, we were reminded about eating in Hong Kong's Tsim Chai Kee noodle restaurant, while Fun Station's menu reminded me of the cart noodles served at Wing Kee Noodle. Thanks to my Yelp Check-in, I was so enticed by their complimentary offer for fried gyoza that my husband heartily encouraged me to show my check-in to the server while placing our meal order. Geez, he said he wasn't that hungry, so I questioned him, thinking we'd have more than enough food to eat. FOOD: -Beef brisket, tendons, wonton dumplings with funn (broad flat rice noodles) in soup: the classic Cantonese braised beef brisket and tendon stew is non-spicy and uniquely flavored with star anise, ginger, dried orange peels, and chu hou 柱侯酱 sauce. This stew is typically served with rice or as a noodle soup topping. Fun Station's beef brisket and tendon stew was fork tender and tasty, although I prefer more robust star anise flavoring. The plump pork and shrimp wonton dumplings had a nice bouncy mouthfeel with their minced, not ground, filling. I liked the delicious savory broth, which enhanced the topping flavors and plain rice noodles instead of detracting from them. There was also a fried egg for additional protein and flavor in this noodle soup bowl. $15.50 -Pork Belly and wonton dumplings with egg noodles in soup: my porkaholic husband enjoyed the tender and tasty braised pork belly slices that had a good ratio of fat meat. The soft and tender pork belly slices weren't greasy, and the huge bouncy pork and shrimp-filled wonton dumplings gave this dish a succulent mouthfeel. For more texture, he chose the thin Hong Kong-style egg noodles with a springy yet delicate chew. The darker yet clear broth in this soup noodle dish was also savory and had a good balance of flavors with the toppings. $15.50 - Complimentary Fried Gyoza (6-pcs): honestly, I didn't eat any because I knew I'd be too full from my soup noodles. My fried food-loving husband "sacrificed" and ate all six pieces! He said the wrappers were delicate and crispy, and there weren't any air pockets in the delicious filling. The sauce must've been sweet, sour, and spicy, which he didn't care for, so he paired the gyoza with the house chili sauce. We liked this noodle restaurant and wouldn't mind returning for the delicious and generously portioned food, ambiance, good service, and value. i came to this place while scouting on a whim and very hungry. they have a lot on their menu which i personally enjoy and also made it hard to decide. i ended up with the beef chow fun, shoyu noodles and orange chicken. the portions were huge for the price and everything came out so quickly. all i have to say is everything was delicious. my favorite was the shoyu noodles and orange chicken. the sauce on the chicken was amazing, it was sweet and tangy. It BYOB so my partner and i brought a bottle of wine to which the server brought us wine glasses. this is honestly such a nice causal place to sit and enjoy with friends and family. They're known for their flying noodles, so I had to try it out. It makes for a great photo op. We got the flying noodles with beef brisket & tendon. We also got free gyoza for checking in on Yelp and ordered a small crispy sparerib. I have to say that the whole flying noodles thing was a bit gimmicky. You twist and remove the pair of silver chopsticks. The noodles will drop into the bowl and you mix all the ingredients together after removing the silver piece that was holding up the chopsticks. The noodles were actually really good and so was the sauce. I believe the noodles are made in house, so you can't get this type of noodle anywhere else. It was great with the minced pork and beef brisket & tendon. The best thing that we had was the sweet sour crispy sparerib. It had a nice glaze to it and it was still crispy when we got it. I loved that it was bone in sparerib, as I love my meats with bone in. It gives it better flavor. The gyoza is made in house and fried. I saw them wrapping the gyoza as we were eating.
