I visited Fuente De Cafe a few days ago and was excited to try what appeared to be a local Mexican restaurant. As a first-time customer, I ordered the chilaquiles. During the ordering process, the hostess asked how I wanted my eggs cooked and then asked which protein I would like, giving me options of pork, chicken, or steak. At no point was I informed that selecting eggs or choosing carne asada would result in significant additional charges. When I received my bill, I was surprised to see extra charges for both the eggs and the carne asada. What appeared to be a $15 menu item ended up costing nearly $35. Had these additional costs been clearly explained beforehand, I could have made an informed decision. My issue is not with paying for upgrades, but with the lack of transparency. Customers should be clearly told when menu options come with substantial extra charges, especially when those options are presented as part of the normal ordering process. In my opinion, this feels misleading and creates a poor customer experience. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I do not plan to return and cannot recommend the restaurant to others looking for honest and transparent pricing. read more

My first time at Fuente was a success! Another first was that I ordered the Machaca. I had never even heard of it, but it was quite good. So good! Really liked their selection of foods on the menu. Check out pics! This is close to the main attractions of downtown Lake Stevens where the farmers market takes place. The service was fast and the server was very nice. The ambiance is your typical Mexican cantina style eatery. Really good location to rest your legs, get some eats and drinks and then head back out to the shops. My only complaint is the tables are tacky, but not enough of a problem to drop it a star. We stopped going to the café because the food was always just kind of bland. I know that they have been turned over to new ownership so we finally tried it out. My husband liked his steak Asada burrito a lot, it was crammed full of meat. I got the eggs, potatoes, and bacon, which was really good, but after seeing somebody else else's breakfast burrito, I really wanted to try that next time! If you're anywhere near Lake Stevens and craving authentic, soul-warming chilaquiles, run to Fuente de Café. This plate is everything. I ordered the mixed chilaquiles--half rojos, half verdes--with perfectly cooked sunny-side-up eggs on top, and I was blown away. The red and green sauces were rich, flavorful, and balanced--neither overpowering nor bland. Each chip had that ideal texture: soft enough to soak up the salsas but still holding a slight crunch. The eggs added that creamy, runny richness, and the generous sprinkle of queso fresco brought it all together. The sides? Creamy refried beans, fluffy and well-seasoned rice, and a fresh pico de gallo that actually tasted freshly chopped. They didn't skimp on the crema or cheese, either. In short Tiny place with amazing food, great prices, and super warm and friendly service. And breakfast all day! In long There are a couple of little strip malls in this corner of Lake, with a few places giving it a little bustle. There is seating for only about 20-25 people in here--smaller than others--but it seemed to be driving a lot of the business. Easy to see why. We came in on a lazy Sunday afternoon, as usual starved because we hadn't eaten anything all day. The kids working the floor here are just the friendliest, nicest ladies--all smiles, easy to joke with, super quick with info and suggestions. We had chips, salsa, and drinks within a couple minutes, and they were quick to bring 3 more squeeze bottles with different salsas to try. Chips & salsa They make their chips in house! They bring a big 10-oz dish of salsa--plenty for chips with more left for the entrees. The squeeze bottle choices were all fantastic, too--habanero, verde, and a milder red. We used them all mixed up and each on their own. Chilaquiles It's a mystery why more places don't serve these. Cuts down on food waste, cheap and easy, and you can make it as delicious as anything and everything on the menu. You get your choice of protein here; we had adobada. They come with rice and beans, which are good but kinda neutral in flavor. Everything else here has really explosive flavors. Huevos con chorizo They serve breakfast all day long! Everything was on point--tortillas, rice, beans. You could eat this with Ron, with anyone else, or by yourself, and love every bite. Adobada taco For $3 I definitely wanted to see what 1 of their tacos was like. Super good stuff--tender, moist protein, lots of seasoning, lots of fresh veg to put over the top, and all the rad squeeze-bottle salsa you care to add. I could go for a toastier tortilla but that's me. Fried jalapenos She figured we'd like them, so she had the kitchen fry 2 of them. So nice! They're great, too--tender, flavorful. Toward the end of the meal, we saw a little moment in traffic that encapsulated what Lake is like these days. A Mazda pickup pulled out of the lot, running rough, really loud, paint all mismatched, but getting where they were going. Seconds later, a brand-new, tricked-out G Wagon pulled in from the same road. That's pretty much who all lives around here anymore. They kept filling up iced tea and coffee without even being asked, too. They had a few minutes here and there, and they'd come over and chat with us. All of this food and drink was $50. No surprise that they had a steady stream of customers well after lunch rush usually ends. The menu includes lots of American dishes, too, and they definitely push tables together for groups. We found this restaurant on yelp on the way back from Diablo lake. It had a great review that we decided to give it a try. Service - 3/5. The staff were nice. Ambience - 3/5. It looks pretty authentic casual Mexican food restaurant. Food - 2/5. Everything we ordered had a mild flavor. We kept adding spicy sauce, but none of them had any kicks to it. Fuente serves breakfast, lunch and dinner! I come for the tacos! My favorites are the chicken, shredded beef/ birrira. The house salsa and rice and beans are very good as well! They have been known to make a killer margarita as well as serving up some cold, Mexican Lagers! A group of 4 of us stopped into Fuente on a Sunday morning for breakfast. Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Credit cards are accepted with a 3.95% service change added; service charge is automatically added to the tab before knowing if payment will be made in cash or not. Indoors is small and not ideal for large groups. Complimentary chips and salsa are provided to nibble on while perusing the menu. Cocktails are served, but strangely without ice. We had to request ice for the cocktails that we had ordered. Menu is extensive and sure to list something for everyone. I had a Negra Modelo for $5. My wife had a screwdriver for $9.36. She stated that there was no vodka in her cocktail. My meal choice was the Huevos Rancheros for $13.29. My wife ordered the Fuente 6: Chicken Fried Steak for $13.99. Service is friendly. Portions are large and reasonable priced. Overall, I really wanted to like Fuente but I didn't. The food was so bland and the cocktails were mocktails with cocktail prices. What a gem! A cute 'hole in the wall' restaurant that is cozy and super friendly service. So attentive and welcoming. I was impressed with their menu for 10am. I ended up getting their Avocado omlette & my friend got their carne asada plate. Both plates were huge especially for a reasonable price. Both dishes were packed with flavor and we really enjoyed our meals. We were even offered chips & salsa when we sat down! Can't wait to return to try other dishes. read more

The space itself was very colorful and festive, which some people will love. I honestly do not know how they get such great reviews. Their salsa is horrible. They're chili Rios they make with canned canned peppers and I just don't think they're worth two cents. We ordered the taco plate under dinner and chimichanga. The taco plate had chicken which was quite bland and of the asada and adobada one of them was salty and other one was perfect flavor. The salsa tested very fresh with just a little spice. Perfect IMO! The coffee was strong and they made sure my mug was always full. We weren't sure about portions but wanted to try a few things. We ordered huevos con chorizo, chilaquiles verdes, and a bacon waffle. The food came and we were shocked at the large portions! The huevos con chorizo had a little kick and the chilaquiles were soft and tasty. They cooked the perfect egg over medium for the chilaquiles, too. I took the bacon waffle home because I was stuffed and had it for lunch. It was sweet and salty and had a nice buttermilk flavor. It was a cake-ier waffle but had a nice texture. Such a hidden gem! Been wanting to try them for awhile and happy we did! All of the food was incredible, they give you a bunch of different sauce options, unlimited chips and salsa. The drinks were great my grandma got a margarita and it was HUGE! The Diabla came with shrimp but I asked for chicken and they were able to do that! And ALL day breakfast! The service was great, and the place is small but it's still cute inside. Oh and they have great horchata too. They were doing a lot of take out so I can only imagine that is great! 10/10! Very torn between 3 and 4 stars here. I have been hearing such great things about it and went to try a couple nights ago. Elizabeth, the owner, was super friendly and helpful and we really liked her. We definitely want to go back and try some other dishes but what we had tonight was not 4 star material. It was good, don't get me wrong, just not the kind of good that makes me want to jump up and down. We ordered margaritas and they were weak and not very flavorful. Looked and tasted watered down actually. I had the combo plate with a carnitas street taco and chicken enchilada. The carnitas meat was dry and crispy but tasted ok. The chicken in the enchilada was also dry and not much flavor. The enchilada was in the middle of the refried beans and Mexican rice and I had a hard time finding where the sauce ended and the beans started. Not the best enchilada I've had to be honest. My wife had the Shrimp Diablo and it was actually very good and a huge portion. Lots of large shrimp, full of flavor and the sauce was thick and lots of green pepper and onion with a touch of spicy heat. Definitely recommend this dish. I went here when I was looking for tacos in Lake Stevens. Service was good and the hostess/waitress treated me very well. the quesabirrias filled me up and the prices were pretty good in general! I was happy to tell my Lake Stevens friends about this place, but then I saw the news about a drug trafficking ring going on behind the counter. I was sad to hear about that, but even happier to learn that the current owners are not affiliated with the past owners who were trafficking drugs. So, I will continue to support this business and I hope it flourishes with the new owners. read more

This place is an absolute GEM. The staff are always so friendly and so accommodating. The carnitas are crispy and juicy, the Birria tacos are even BETTER. If you are able to eat it right then and there, or eat it in your car, do so. The cheese is always melty and the consume comes with it! I forgot to pay for my horchata and they gave it to me on the house, and my heart was so warm. I had a really hard day and I got some lunch from here as I typically do, and they really made me feel better. I asked for a bowl of rice with meat on top and they accommodated for me!
