Somewhat surprised how good this food was! Fresh tasting ingredients and nothing served was oily or too heavy feeling. Portion size is massive, prices are maybe a smidge over what you would want to pay, but probably more upset at the exchange rate for Canadian Dollars. I had the Ixtapa Wet Burrito and it was the size of my forearm. Packed with more protein than I thought possible. As mentioned before, not oily or heavy despite the cheese and sauces. What a wonderfully delicious lunch! We stopped here for lunch and loved every bite. I had the three chilis, my daughter had the three tacos, my grandsons had the cheese quesadilla and chicken burrito. From the second we sat down with the four year old and 18 month old they were very friendly. The service was courteous and quick. The chorizo quest and chips and salsa were outstanding. Daily lunch specials are offered from 11am-3pm. Happy Hour is offered in the lounge Monday-Friday from 2pm-6pm. Taco Tuesday is offered in the lounge. Crunchy ground beef tacos are $0.99 each on Tuesdays. Complimentary chips and salsa are provided. The chips were nice and warm. The salsa mild and flavorful. Pints of Dos Equis were $2.50 (hh). The tacos were garnished with lettuce, tomato and cheese. The beef was satisfactory. Our server was impersonal and hard to be found when it we wanted to order more beers and tacos. Stopped in for lunch today and got a Chile Colorado burrito with only refried beans, no rice. It was fantastic! I also ordered a side of pico de Gallo and it was excellent also. Food was decent and had good flavor. You must pay extra for additional chips and salsa and be aware of additional charges when making adjustments to your order. I did love the new paint. I ordered from this place with UberEats last night, and was delighted. First off let's talk portions. They were huge. Enough for 4 meals for me, and 2 for a normal person. It was so good, I totally over ate, I was so stuffed. We had the Chicken a la Crema, and Chicken Enchiladas. The chicken in the enchiladas is huge and plentiful. The Chicken a la Crema sauce is devine. I always order anything with any type of crema, cheese, or white sauce in general, if a resturant has it because it's usually DELICIOUS. Also those beans and rice.... The. Best. I've. Had. In. Recent. Memory. Especially with that crema sauce. Now let's get to the shitty part......there was none!!! I usually get the poops from this kind of food, and am running to the bathroom every few hours. Well not from this place!!!! My taste buds, my stomach, and my non burning asshole all agree. I have been here maybe half a dozen times or so. This will most likely be the last. Before, the food was flavourful and fresh. Today I had the steak fajitas and the meat was tough and did not taste very good. The sauce it was cooked in had an off-putting taste. I left most of it behind for the trash. Service was ok but slow. We've been to several Ixtapa restaurants locally, most of which have been just ok. We found the Snohomish location to be the same - just ok. We were greeted right away and seated with menus.The chips were nice and fresh and it's great that they serve them warm with a ramekin of good salsa and one of refried beans. Good start. We each ordered a Chimichanga with shredded beef. One came with rice and beans and the other with a green salad. My husband said that he thought his had chili with ground beef in it. The one I ordered came with chicken, not the shredded beef I had ordered. I let the server know and they remade it right away. Mine, too, tasted like it had ground beef. Neither was the shredded beef we were expecting. They each were topped with a fair amount of sour cream and guacamole. The guacamole was horrible. It tasted metallic and old. Unfortunately, that guacamole ruined it for both of us. Seems like a yardstick for good (American) Mexican food would be the refried beans and guacamole. Not returning. read more

Found this place randomly off of highway 2 after a day outdoors. Looking like a dive from outside drenched in hot peach, the small Mexican restaurant was a nice surprise inside. Signs of age and wear are apparant, but the booth we were in was comfortable and clean. We were seated right away and our waiter buzzed around us constantly throughout service. They have a huge menu. My boyfriend got a roasted pork dish - don't recall the name - that he loved. He had to pick out three big bones. I got a Carne asada burrito that filled me 3/4 through. Solid little Mexican chain place. Three stars in context--for the price and for the simplicity of the food they're offering, they do a good job. They definitely sincerely want you to enjoy yourself. Very prompt and attentive service, always very friendly throughout the meal. Clean and well-run dining room. The little roasted jalapeno appetizer plate is awesome. Nobody else does them quite like this place--split, unpeeled, some vinegary red sauce, plenty of cayenne. You can eat them pretty much until they have to wheel you out of the joint. I had the casuela, which in this case was sirloin and mushrooms in a chipotle cheese sauce. Great stuff. The carne asada was tasty. I would definitely stick with the specials on the cover of the menu. They're $17 a plate, but there's a lot more effort put into those than some of the other stuff that was wheeling past us. This is a great Mexican restaurant! I had the ossobusso. I wish this place was closer to my house so we could go to eat more often.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting much, I never do of Mexican food in Washington. They delivered on what I expected and a little more, which was nice. Plenty of vegetarian options, called out carefully on the menu so that you know where to look without a lot of hunting. I was a little sad that they only offer regular "red" salsa - I have food allergies and always look forward to places having tomatillo salsa instead. As other reviewers have mentioned, they are very, very kid friendly. I wish they used reusable drink cups for kids but I'm happy that they had kids cups with lids. The kids menu is pretty standard - be careful if you have a kid with food allergies, though, there aren't a lot of options here for substituting non-gluten items (like corn tortillas) for the flour tortillas. Service wasn't the best but the guy seemed to be serving the entire place and handling walk-in and phone-in to-go orders all by himself. A solid 3-stars. read more

The staff were so kind to us you wouldn't have even known they were closing soon! We've been dining at Ixtapa for twenty years. The owner/manager for most of this time was an amiable, intelligent gentleman. His wife worked there, his older kids worked there, the rest of the staff was top notch. The food was simple family Mexican - always good quality. Service matched the quality of the food. Recently, the owner/manager left - along with his family. A few of the old staff remain. And the place is horrible. The food is decidedly inferior. One dish last nite was cold - as if it hadn't been quite de-thawed. Almost every visit, we would order a side of Guacamole. A generous portion would be brought to our table. Last night our guacamole was on one of the dinner plates. Saying it was a 'dollop' would be overstating it. A teaspoon, maybe. And we were charged $4.50! And the service was pretty bad. The server seemed to me to be going out of her way NOT to understand me. You go to a restaurant and if English is not your server's primary language, then there's often a give and take, two people intently listening to each other. This often creates a bond, all parties learn something. It can be a rewarding experience. This server just kept dismissing me when I was trying to ask about my order. I ended up with whatever she brought to the table. I felt like her attitude was "YOU'LL EAT IT AND YOU'LL LIKE IT." I ate it, didn't like it, and we're never going back again. * One of the original servers was working the bar. On the way out, my better-half went over to him. I don't know what she said - but it was probably something like 'this place is horrible now, we are going to miss you, good luck.' He looked sad, nodded his head, smiled at her, and turned and gave me a big, half-sad smile and waved goodbye. read more

Went in for the 1$ tacos and wow big size and soo good had the elpastor tacos..they have pineapple. Also ordered a Corona Premier and it came in a chilled glass. The Nar ad Resturant were recently remodeled from when I was in 2 years ago and the service was muck better. Also I am excited for the next visit to try some of the Tequila selections. We eat at this restaurant two or three times a month. It is our favorite Mexican. The manager is friendly and welcoming. His staff always accommodating and friendly. I have some quirky dietary needs and they are so helpful and it goes down great. My favorite Mexican restaurant anywhere, and my favorite restaurant of any genre in the Snohomish/Monroe area. My friends and I didn't have such an awesome experience here. We each ordered two tacos, from the sides menu because we didn't have much money. They gave my friend a dish that cost much more than ours, even though he clearly ordered the same thing. They also seemed to have an attitude... maybe because we weren't all buying entres for $12? Then, someone bussed my friend's plate before he was even done and didn't even look him in the face or check to see if he was done. We have been dining at this Ixtapa for 15+ years. The staff always welcoming and patient with our large groups. We were shocked and saddened to see the owner and most of the staff gone on a visit a few months back. Carlos would always welcome us with a big smile and hug. Well, things have changed..... New ownership and staff could care less. Food is hit or miss. We ordered tonight, my husbands food was terrible...he spit it out immediately! The server (who always seems annoyed) took it back and brought dish that was only partially correct. Then the check...oh, we have to pay for the original dish and the side dish that we didn't ask for? We will not be back. I feel bad saying it, but the food isn't very good. Very greasy and cheap ingredients. Not cooked with skill. I had carne azada with bacon wrapped shrimp. The shrimp were tiny and served on top of a bed of spicy creamy greasy fried peppers and onions. I could feel my stomach turning as I tried to eat it. The carne was OK. It's pricey too. The service is very very friendly, so I feel really bad saying these things. The clientele also leaves a lot to be desired. A fight broke out the last time we were there and we all had to leave. I used to not be the biggest fan of Ixtapa and didn't think too highly of their food quality. But as of about a year ago they completely changed their menu and stepped their quality game up dramatically. For starters, they now serve fantastic, legit bean dip with their chips and chunky salsa and are always prompt to refill it as soon as it starts to run out. Their main courses have also clearly stepped up in flavor and quality and in my opinion, makes it the new leading mexican restaurant in Snohomish. I understand why some people previous to 2011 have negative comments, but I would urge them to give it another chance. read more

We went to Ixtapa in Snohomish last night and we all loved it. As soon as you sit down they give you great complimentary chips with refried beans and salsa. I know all Mexican restaurants give free chips and salsa but not with refried beans too. We ordered margaritas and they were excellent. I ordered chorizo and eggs for my dinner and loved it. I'd give it a 9 out of 10. The other meals we ordered were chicken fajitas and a veggie burrito. We all agreed everything was really good. They deserved five stars! read more

I used to come here a ton back in the day when I lived in Lake Stevens, it's probably been 5 years or so since I stopped in. By chance I ended up w an Ixtapa gift certificate so the man and I decided to stop in. I still like the chips n salsa, super tasty with the right amount of spice. Good service. But the entrees I found to be mediocre. The rice was dry, the steak in my fajitas was dried out and very tough and sopping in grease... Pork Osso Bucco at Snohomish Ixtapa is excellent! I've been to this Ixtapa twice before today (and a couple others outside of the Snohomish location), and it was always decent. Typically I order something standard from the menu but todays special blew my socks off (and I was wearing flip flops). I ordered the Pork Osso Bucco and it was simply amazing. Tasty sauce, the tender meat fell off the bone and mixing the pork with the guacamole and lettuce in a soft taco was very very good. My wife had something else, and she said this was the best Mexican food she's ever had. My 4 year old ate every chicken nugget (10 maybe) and my 6 year barely ate her taco, but ate off of everyone elses amazing plate. GOOD GOOD GOOD! A read more

They recently changed hands and the food is terrible - and the prices are significantly higher. My dinner was actually inedible. We ended up going to Taco Bell afterwards to get a decent taco - not kidding. Ixtapa's guacamole is now 50% less the volume - yet they raised the price from $3.50 to $5.00. And my taco barely had any meat or anything else in it. The prior owner was such a nice man - he always recognized us and gave us a hug. We have been going here for 16 years and we will never go back again. The new mgmt. and food is terrible! read more

I think this "hole in the wall" is the best Mexican restaurant in Snohomish. Their food is delicious, their beans and rice are definitely better than Todo Mexico on first st! The prices are great. I'd definitely recommend the steak fajitas it's about two meals worth of food (for me) and it's made well!
