    CBLT Salad

Wow, hard pass. Paid 35 bucks for one beer, a chili dog, and a chopped chicken salad. Upon entering the bartender immediately warns that food can be an hour wait. To which I said alright... However when the food comes out it's a microwaved hot dog with chili poured all over it and some raw white chopped onions. Then as for the chicken salad, the chicken was absolutely uneditable and was hard, stale, appeared to be microwaved, refrigerated then remicrowaved. The lettuce was clean and fresh and the veggies were good but come on, 1 hour for this? I won't be returning here unless it's for a quick brew. Oh and as for the beer, enjoy your plastic cup.

From the jump a friendly bar, with a great atmosphere, that happens to serve food. Food is nothing fancy or unique but it's solid. History of the building is worth the stop. Def recommend.

We were just saying, We need a great place to stop for a beer on the way home from hiking in Skykomish and here it is. 8 beers on tap, full bar, great bar food including jojo! Charlotte and her brother - local owners. Clean, cool with a juke box, ping pong and a y library of books. We will be back.

A group of six of us stopped here after a day of snowshoeing at Steven's Pass. Free parking can be found in front of the restaurant. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Tabs were easily split. This is a family owned and ran bar. Everything is for sale, from beer tasters ($0.50 each taste) to the popcorn. There are no frills here, just a laid-back bar where you will be served great beer and decent bar food. Be patient and enjoy yourself while visiting the Whistle Post. The interior is spacious with a few TVs and a pool table. The tables are old dining room tables that fit a decent sized group comfortably. Condiments are served in a 6-pack beer carrier. The food menu is limited and is comprised of store-bought food as well as homemade food. The chili is Nalley's. The fish is frozen and store-bought. The chicken, jo-jo's, pulled pork and soup of the day are all homemade. Love the honesty and simplicity. Savings are not given with pitchers of beer so go ahead and sample the many local beers on draft via pints instead. My group was drinking Manny's and Red Chair by Deschutes Brewery (OR) for $5 a pint. My girlfriend ordered the Chicken (homemade) & Jo-Jo's for $1: half a chicken in pieces (breast, thigh, wing and leg) deep fried and served on a paper plate. ***Be advised that it takes 20 minutes for this meal to cook.*** Have a beer! My wife ordered the Fish (store bought) & Jo-Jo's for $10: qty 3 fish fillets served with Jo-Jo's and tater sauce. I ordered the Pulled Pork (homemade) Sandwich for $9.50: pulled pork, sliced cabbage (dry), and multi-grain chips from Costco. My girlfriend and I also shared a Bowl of Soup (homemade) for $5: Pork and Black Bean soup with a hint of Indian curry. Served with a dinner roll. A tasty yet different spin on Black Bean Soup. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We were ravished from playing outdoors all day. The beers were tasting extremely delicious too. If you enjoy unpretentious places like I do, then the Whistle Post is the perfect spot to grab a table or stool and kick back and relax after a day of playing in beautiful Washington. Thank you Whistle Post for staying humble and straightforward.

Yummy hot dog and ice cold beer.

Hidden gem right on the path home from Eastern Washington. Charolette, the bartender, is super fun. Great place to stop!

If you're looking for a stop for a crisp beer after a long hike, this is the place to go! It's definitely a local haunt and has quite a bit of character. The space is filled with old photos of the tiny railroad town over the years. It's so cool to see the history of this place. Sadly, the original tavern from the late 1800s burned down in a fire, but the owners rebuilt in 2013. They maintained the integrity of the space seeking out an old school wooden bar from the same time period. The foot rest below the bar is an old train track too - simple but impactful additions to the space to give it it's amazing character. We sipped a Manny's beer off the tap and a local hard cider, pairing it with a big old basket of popcorn. Just what we wanted to cap off a great trip to the mountains. They have some fried food and other dishes on the menu. The locals will know you're not from the area and took some time to chat with us about where we were staying and the spots we visited. Overall, a necessary stop if you want a cool mountain town tavern experience!

Smallest oysters in the world, right here! You get TWO with your seafood combo :(

Sad. I'm really really just sad because this place looks awesome inside and out. But the food, omg. First, the menu even for a bar Is ridiculous. They don't even have bar menus. You have to get up, walk over to a small chalk board leaning on the ground and choose from about 12 deep fried baskets. I ordered the Seafood combo for $10. It came with 2 small shrimp, 2 small oysters, and a piece of greasy fish about 3"x2". That was the "seafood". And I'm not kidding when I say small! The rest of the plate had 6 large greasy "jo jos" so basically you pay for potatoes. It's a shame because like I said, this place is visually great! Nice tv room/area, lots of history, great bar area but rip rip rip off on food and even if it was just expensive I could survive that, but it was greasy and came on a paper plate.

The whistling post storefront rebuilt to replicate the original railroad town saloon.

Definitely not a $50+ steak and was not cooked appropriately. The clam orzo looked promising. Huge portion and smelled delicious, but I took one bite and it was so salty I couldn't eat it. During our last trip in the area, we decided to go on in for a drink. Dive bar fans, this spot is absolute GOLD. If you're in the area for a hike? Stop in for a post hike beer. In the area just passing through? Literally pull over for a drink or two and a respite from the car. Whatever you're doing in Index, there is no reason not to stop at the Sand Bar. The Sand Bar is nautical themed and so much fun. Themed to the NINES. As an event planner, their dedication does not go unnoticed. There's also so many fun fish tanks around! Kinda makes you feel like a kid again to just watch them swim around while you're relaxing. Would I suggest saving an appetite for this spot? Honestly, no. They have a DIY chili dog bar and rotating specials but all of the food is ready to go in crockpots. That said, if it was midnight and I had a few cold ones, I might just be inclined to make myself a DIY chili dog. I'm just being honest here. I did see in the parking lot that the local pizza spot will deliver here, so that might be a more sanitary option, but what's the fun (and gamble) in that? There's a fun outdoor area with eclectic seating and beautiful mountain views if you're there during the day. No liquor here, but they've got solid beer, wine, cider/seltzer options. The co-owner was working when we came in and he's a super nice guy. We complimented the bar and he insisted we give his wife all the credit as it was her idea and she was "nice enough to let him work there." We informed him we'd be back in the area for our June wedding and were planning on stopping in after we got married and he gave us a business card with their personal cell number to TEXT and let them know how many people from our wedding were gonna come in so they could prep karaoke and stay open a little later. I mean, how sweet is that!?!? Highly suggest supporting this small business whenever passing through Index - we can't wait to come back after our wedding. We're seriously rolling with our wedding party + then some.
