We stopped by the Cascadia Cafe in the Cascadia Inn after taking recommendations from our coffee baristas in a neighboring town. They mentioned a Cascadia Cafe in Skykomish, so we said, "why not?" The cafe is a cute spot for intimate meals. We arrived around 10-11 AM on a weekend day for a later breakfast/brunch and ordered breakfast plates with eggs, bacon, and hash browns. Husband's sunny side up and my scrambled eggs were undercooked, but the rest of the food was good. The place was on the quieter side with no music playing and with minimal conversation amongst the customers. Service was ok, the server seemed a bit dismissive despite it being on the emptier side. Perhaps, it may be more lively on other occasions? Overall, I may stop by for a coffee and quick bite without eggs if I'm in the area. Happy eating! read more

A nice diner place in US-2. Probably the last stop before reaching the Stevens Pass. We mad an unplanned stop here on our way to Leavenworth for breakfast. Small diner with a handful of tables. Got a few options on their menu for breakfast. French Toast with sausages, Avocado toast, hash browns, waffles and coffee.Service is quite fast. Food is decent too. This place is filled with information about Skykomish and Great Northern railway. Plenty of resources to read about. Loved everything about this place except the attitude of the middle aged lady who served us. She hardly smiled and was very serious throughout as if she didn't like us stopping there. Had such a pleasant stay here. We last minute booked a room at the inn for our hiking weekend and at first, I was not super excited to stay here. The dorm living style is not something I'm used to, but after our night here, I'd definitely do the dorm stay again. We got a 2 twin bed room and the sheets smelled so good and the beds were so comfortable after our grueling hike. The shared bathrooms and showers were really nice. We never saw another person there even though the parking lot was full. Water pressure and heat felt amazing. They also have a cafe open next door which was perfect. Staff was so friendly and the food was so so good. Train did not effect me while I was in the room, but maybe that's because we were so tired. It was cool seeing the train while at our car though! Overall 10/10 experience and the host was super nice, saw him at breakfast! read more

An unplanned stop for a late lunch in the charming town of Skykomish. Very friendly husband and wife business, the food was delicious, we also ordered a milkshake and got two. We came with our pup and they were so accommodating - even bringing him a bowl of water and letting him run free outside. Outside seating is lovely - beautifully decorated yard and a very casual atmosphere - felt like visiting a friend! Once we left to walk the town, we met other friendly locals who told us that it was actually the town mayor who brought us our sandwiches! Felt pretty special. Check out the miniature train museum where you can ride the train (no age limit) and make sure to say hello to Tom, he is the kindest and most entertaining person!!! read more

We love, love this place. If you are anywhere near Skykomish, it's worth turning off the highway and going into the town to visit this gem of a restaurant! Henry is the best of the best! He does it all... fabulous greeter, buses tables, takes order, tops off coffee, delivers food and gets you your check. He's so efficient and always friendly! The burgers are AMAZING!!! You can either eat inside or go out on the patio and watch lots of Hummingbirds play around near the feeders. A MUST stop after a day playing in the mountains! read more

Henry is very friendly, informative &accommodating! This is the perfect location to stay for a visit to Steven's pass and the most affordable! It's located in the historic downtown area and is very cute! The room is cozy, feels like you're staying at nan and pops house(: there's only a few rooms here that have a bathroom in the bedroom. Other rooms are shared bathrooms but there's 3 showers and 4 toilets with doors & 4 sinks. Theres a cafe downstairs and a common area with a TV and kitchenette! Clam chowder is yum and breakfast is great. I'm pretty sure it's all home made. read more

We had two nice meals here during a recent stay in the area. The ham and cheese sandwich was great, got it twice, and the Chef's salad was really good and a nice size portion. I would skip the onion rings as they are from frozen and are pretty bready. Service was nice and friendly. read more

We had a delicious meatloaf sandwich after a day hike. The meatloaf was perfectly made, the bread was savory, and the veggies where crisp and fresh. Service is outrageously poor. They had a middle aged lady waitress when we went there. She was very rude and dismissive of my 4 year old girl. My daughter is not even a loud or bratty kid. She for some reason wanted to swap out the ketchup bottle on our table with a ketchup bottle on another empty table where there was no one. The waitress just sneered at her and shooed her away with "no. No. Just go" as if she would shoot a dog. Felt very racist. Outrageously rude and poor service. I still left a 15$ tip on 100$ bill. because I am not an a$$hole and I know tips are for all waiters. I feel so bad I left the 15$ tip though. Food wasn't bad. Just avoid this place and eat somewhere else. Don't encourage their business and vote with your feet that bad service is not ok. read more

Stayed here for a night between Seattle and Leavenworth. Off the highway in Skykomish, very few lights, quiet without people but noisy with the train. Got a room with two beds, shared bathroom. Bathroom was super clean even though it was a shared bathroom. Owner was quite friendly when we checked in, gave us all the information we needed. Plenty of parking, didn't really stay long here. Wifi was good, bed was comfortable, enough outlets in the room. read more

A great stop just off Stevens Pass highway. Quaint old railroad town with long trains still passing through. This place knows how to make a patty melt: rye bread - check grilled onions - check swiss cheese - check great juicy patty - check long crispy fries soft in center - check plus friendly prompt service and fun local vibe. We stopped in this beautiful small town for lunch, only place open and kid friendly. Staffs were friendly and they even had veg burger. We had fried fish ,Veg burger . Both the dishes were good. Enjoyed a very nice lunch here with my Mom. It was a windy, rainy day but the atmosphere in the restaurant was warm and friendly, and the fresh flowers on the tables brought summer days to mind. The waitress was patient with my elderly Mom who needed lots of time to figure out her order. We had delicious beef soup, shared a turkey sandwich and spent less than $20. I highly recommend a stop here if you find yourself hungry on Highway 2. read more

I am a huge fan of this place. It's not fancy AT ALL, but for a town with a population of 200 this is glorious. It doubles as diner and hotel. The diner is decent enough (nothing special), but the hotel is really quaint and fun. For $75 a night you get your own bathroom, bed, and dish TV. The bed is creaky and our bathroom door wouldnt lock, but the blanket was a real quilt and it all felt very homey while still maintaining hotel-style privacy. The bathroom had excellent water pressure! Maybe bring your own shampoo though, the kind they provide smells like Axe body spray. Trains go by every 3 hours in the night, so dont sleep with your window open! The hotel also has a do-it-yourself walking tour brochure which was lots of fun. Tells you all the history about the city, takes you by the river and the train tracks. If you want a normal hotel this might not be for you, but this is a hospitable, clean, quaint little gem! read more

You would think that after traveling half the galaxy, I'd know better than to be taken in by place names. But: Skyhomish??!! Doesn't it sound like the kind of picturesque place where a gal and her alien sidekicks ought to find a sweet little place to eat? Well, Skyhomish -- and the Cascadia Inn -- really want to convince you that they're charming. But somehow neither the town nor the Inn quite nail it. They're serviceable, but nothing more. Once we realized we were unlikely to be charmed, my crew was able to settle into the practical matter of obtaining sustenance. While we recognize that the menu might be considered unimaginative by those accustomed to Earth cuisine, we were fascinated by the opportunity to try such human delicacies as grilled cheese, hamburger, tomato soup and chili. (Fun fact: chili is neither served cold NOR is it from Chile! These humans sure do keep us on our toes.) We were delighted to find all of these dishes pleasant but unremarkable in the EXACT way our Starfleet scouts had described American food. Nothing bad, but nothing worth sending a subspace message about, either. If you find yourself landing in Skyhomish while hopping planets, by all means, stop at Cascadia Inn should you need a meal. But there is no reason to burn up dilithium crystals making a detour. read more

Some friends and I crashed here for two nights while on a boarding trip at Stevens. All in all, it's an awesome, low-budget hideaway for those wanting to play in the snow several days in a row, but not drive back and forth over the pass (or pay a ton of money for a lodge closer to Stevens). PROS: 1. Convenient. Just 5 miles from Stevens. 2. Cheapo! Prices range from $20-80 a night, with some private rooms/private baths, and some shared bunkbed lodging and communal baths. 3. Food was surprisingly good! I didn't expect much from the diner, given the crazy snowstorm and seemingly lack of access to fresh produce. But my burger had fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc. And the fries, my friends and I all agree, were amazingly good. Super crispy, uniform, hot, tasty fries. 4. Henry is a one man show! He does it all. Nice, eager to please, and efficient. CONS: 1. Not the cleanest. But this is what you can expect from a hostel with such decent prices. There was no handsoap in the communal bathroom. And the lounge area was grimy, dusty, and dingy. 2. Thin walls and creaky beds. Heard a couple getting it on upstairs for hours. Man. read more

There are basically three businesses here and I won't be reviewing the bar. The hotel offers rooms with private and shared baths. We got a king bed with a private bath for $85 and the prices just go down from there to $25 for a bunk bed and shared bath. Our room was basically big enough to fit the king bed and a stand for the flat screen TV and not much else. The bathroom has all the standard arrangements with the oddity that the mirror was split into two pieces with 3-4 inches of space between them, overall a easy and cheap place to stay if you are doing stuff up by Stevens Pass. Then there is the issue of the train. I the hotel is from my best guess 50 feet away from the rail road tracks and the trains seems to be pretty active there. If the horn blows you should cover your ears and otherwise be prepared to not hear the TV and have the room shake. Now being the noise sensitive person I am I thought this would be an issue but I didn't hear the train till 6:20 am about when I normally wake up anyways. I contribute this to a 5+ hour snowshoe hike during the day and 2 Sierra Nevada Pale Ales with dinner. My girlfriend was woken up several times throughout the night by the trains coming though. The diner was ok as well. For dinner I had a bowl of chili and a sandwich called the The Malone which hit the spot after a long hike. Be aware though that there chili contains evil beans but is otherwise decent. For breakfast I had the half biscuits and gravy with sausage. There was a lot more gravy then I expected but I don't necessarily consider this a bad thing. Also I was impressed to see sausage patties instead of links. All the staff we met were incredibly nice and helpful. I wish the rooms were a bit bigger and the rooms sound proofed against the train but otherwise not a bad stay. read more

The Cascadia Inn is similar to a pension - cozy, rooms with and without bathrooms and a bank of nice showers and bathrooms at the start of the hall. The owner, Henry, is a retired CPA and is on site almost all the time. He is a great host. I teach skiing at Stevens one day a week and so often will stay here so that I don't have so far to drive in the morning! I often will grab a bite to eat in the restaurant or little bar downstairs - or head to the pub next door. read more

Cute place, great location, nice folks, LOUD TRAINS. Rudimentary accommodations. Squeaky beads, thin walls, cheap pillows, scratchy sheets. Our bathroom smells like Tom cats just sprayed in there. Slight mold smell everywhere. UPDATE We moved down the hall, facing away from the trains. No private bath but that's no problem. We both slept great. No TV in this room but we aren't here for TV. Think of this place as being more like a hostel. There is a shared kitchen/lounge with what you would expect from a hostel: incomplete games, books, old furniture, and abandoned food in the fridge. Bring slippers for your walk to the bathroom and earplugs for the trains. There isn't a store for miles that sells conditioner or moisturizer so bring that too if it's important to you. People here have been remarkably accommodating, personable, and just nice. I can't imagine they're making much money at this. read more

First off, it's not at all clear to me that the hotel part of the Cascadia Inn is currently open. The business is clearly in some kind of transitional period, caused in no small part by the disruption to the entire Skykomish "business district" due to Great Northern Railroad pollution remediation. On the other hand, they had a business card contest for a night in the inn with free breakfast... Now, to the review. My wife and I like to road-trip... some of our most fun moments in the PNW have involved hopping in the car and driving until we decide to turn around. We first chose Skykomish as a wise place to turn around last winter, having no chains or coats in our car with waves of freezing fog that even made a polar bear nervous... We finally returned last weekend on a much more pleasant day, and decided we needed to pee and have a snack. The Cascadia Inn was really the only place in Skykomish that looked like a candidate. The interior is semi-rustic, semi-small town diner. Service is friendly, with the whole place being run by a couple of older guys. The food was surprisingly good... my grilled ham-and-cheese was delish, and the fries were wonderful. They also did a great job of keeping our ice teas filled. You're not going to get world-class cuisine here, but if you want a satisfying, surprisingly non-greasy diner/small town restaurant meal, the Cascadia Inn might be just up yer alley. The place also has displays and material about the history of the Great Northern Railroad and its influence on the town and region. read more

Been here many times, food and service is always 4 star however their ADA access sucks. Last week we were Motorhoming and didn't want to cook, so we ordered by Cell Phone and got GREAT burgers and fries to go. Then, since it was Saturday we parked by the "Free Ride" model steam railroad and watched people, from the comfort of our own dining room. Really solid little place. It's the one of the best milkshakes I have ever had. Everyone loved their burgers. They even made me a sandwich with lettuce leaves instead of bread since I am allergic to gluten. The service was great. I would've given this cafe a full five star review based off of the food alone, but the waitress is an idiot whom clearly is lacking common sense. We ordered my 7 year old a fish and chips basket off of the kids menu. When the tab came, the waitress had charged us 10.95 instead of 6.50 for my daughters meal. She had, maybe, ten fries and three pieces of fried fish. I brought the mistake to the waitresses attention and her response was "you didn't specify it was a kids meal." I had pointed to the kids menu, which was sitting in front of my daughter, and said 'she' will have the fish and chips. I asked her how that wasn't clear enough. She said I should've noticed that my daughter got three fish instead of two. This lady clearly didn't give a crap about customer service. I would say: go for the burgers, but don't trust the waitress. Btw...we ordered for 4 people and it came to 67 bucks! read more
