This place ended up being the spot we always stop by when going to Leavenworth or checking out a new hike. The employees are so friendly and the food always hits the spot. The burgers are flavorful with fresh veggies to top it off. They are walk up or drive thru and there's picnic tables and plenty of parking. They are right off the main road so it's hard to miss. Check it out if you're ever in the area

Great little restaurant! Super fast service after you order. I first remember going here back in the 80s with my Dad and two brothers after fishing. We would fish all day long at my brother Gary's, "hot spots" (we never caught a darn thing) and on our way home, we would always get a Green River to drink, well at least my brother Greg and I did. For years every time we were in the area we would stop in for a Green River drink. It became a tradition! Those were some of the best memories fishing with Dad and my brothers Fast wind the clock to current day. We were heading to Leavenworth last July 4th weekend with my family and there I spied the famous Alpine Village Drive Inn off the highway. We immediately turned left into the parking lot. 43 plus years later I still had to have a Green River drink. It was tradition you know! I ordered my Green River Drink and proceeded to savor every drop. I offered a taste to the others in the car but they were all happily enjoying their own choices of beverages. My Green River Drink still tastes as delicious as it did 43+ years ago. It brought back fantastic memories of some of the most wonderful and magical experiences 3 brothers and a father could ever have. I just wish Dad was still around to try one again. I'll be back to this wonderful place whenever I am in the area to get Green River Drink and have pleasant memories of great times with each sip I take.

My favorite diner along Highway 2 with my favorite mushroom cheeseburger. It has lots of grilled onions and mushrooms with great cheese to meat ratio.

On our way across the Cascades we needed some nourishments. And we wanted fish. Searching along the way I found Allen Vilkage and called and asked if I could order over the phone. That was fine with them, and they said 15 minutes, and we were 16 minutes out. Lucky! My only disappointment was that I must have looked at an old menu picture, and the only fish they had now was cod. When we arrived the food was ready. One big advantage was we didn't have to wait in the drive-through line, but could go directly to the pickup window. Four smallish pieces of battered cod, wavy cut fries, coleslaw, and plenty of tartar. Oh, I was also told they were out of malt for the shake. Not much you can do about that. The food was good, and thanks to nice weather we could eat our fish at one of their picnic tables before heading back on the road again. I will definitively consider stopping here again, especially when going westbound, since getting in and out is easier in that direction.

Leave driven by this place so many times and always wanted to try it. We go ally got the chance to do it and we were not disappointed! Alpen village may be a drive thru/drive in restaurant, but the flavors and food say otherwise! The food was tasty, the portions were great, the prices were affordable and the service was fast! Husband and I recommend if you are hungry and want to try something new. He had the pawns and oysters, while I had the chicken teriyaki burger. All the flavors blended so well and the staff were efficient and quick with our order. We also had the mozzarella sticks and onion rings. But the end of the meal we were stuffed and satisfied. Definitely recommend if you are driving by or nearby and want to try this place out!

We were on our way home from hiking Bridal veil falls, and stumbled upon this place. My partner loves trying local burger joints and this was right up his alley. He decided to change it up and try their Elk burger since that's something you don't see often, and I got the alpen burger. Our burgers were very tasty, and easily something we will be back for. The French fries are a crinkle cut with some kind of seasoning. These were so addicting! Perfectly crunchy and seasoned. We also got tarter sauce and fry sauce which both were good. The place has a nicely sized parking lot, and a little shaded seating area.

My go-to Route 2 post-workout calorie splurge. Halfway through backpacking, snowshoeing, snowboarding, or whatever brings me to this area, I'm already planning my order. I've gotten the veggie burger 5x and it's always perfect. It's what I imagine a fast food burger was in the 50s: crisp lettuce, onions, and pickles; juicy tomatoes; and melty saucy with a slice of cheese and some mayo / ketchup. Zucchini fries have become a fav, but the fried mushrooms are also delicious. Top it off with a malted shake and whatever I just burned off is back on, but it was worth it.

We've been driving by this place every three or four months for the past couple of years. Our travels from Central Washington have taken us up over Stevens Pass and until recently we had never caught them at a time when they were open And when we were hungry. This is a very humble, old school drive-in that sits on the north side of the road just as you get into Salton Washington. It's the classic burgers, fries and shakes sort of place. We have been doing a burger quest around Washington in search of the best burger, and as such had to try a double bacon cheeseburger. We had gotten so-so reviews on this place, but the burger that we had was fantastic! The patties were done nicely, the bacon was good, there was plenty of cheese, and they did not commit the cardinal sin of putting a sweet relish on the burger. It was probably one of the top 10 burgers we've tried around the state. To Boutte, the fries were awesome as well! They had just the right amount of salt on them, we're crispy and firm, but not overly so. There's a sort of fries they're awesome when you eat them, but probably not the ones you want to find an hour later in the bottom of the bag. Either way, it was pretty solid. The place has a drive-through on one side and a walk up window on the other. It made for easy in and out. They do make things when you order them, so ordering ahead can save you some time. A solid spot that we'll be back to!

    Small cheeseburger - so good!

After hiking nearby at Barclay Lake, we decided to come grab a quick post-hike meal. It's about twenty ish minutes away from the trailhead, so if you're starving after doing Barclay, you won't have to wait too long to find some REALLY good food. When we're not in COVID-19 days, Alpen has a small dining room for people to use. Currently, there is outdoor seating that people can use which is nice too. They've got a great menu here. Different types of burgers, hotdogs, fish baskets, and sides. So much to choose from in such a little building! I went simple and got a small cheeseburger and mozzarella sticks with a butterscotch shake. My dad also ordered a side of the fried zucchini for us to try. The cheeseburger was simple but damn it packed a punch. Think Loretta's Northwesterner, Dick's, etc. Nothing fancy, but damn good! The fry sauce they use was phenomenal and it comes on the burger which really ties everything together. The mozzarella sticks were what my dad calls "the best." The breading was fantastic. Light, NOT saturated in oil, and actually had a good flavor. They were delicious! Zucchini fries were also very good dipped in the fry sauce OR the ranch (which was also tasty). Shakes were amazing too. The butterscotch was SWEEEET but it was good. My dad got the banana and my sister got the pineapple and those were both yummy too. Everything is made-to-order so be prepared to wait for your food. It all comes piping hot and incredibly fresh which you can't be mad about! 100% recommend this cute little drive-in for a post-hike meal if you're in the area. You won't regret it!

Have you ever had a meal that was unexpectedly exactly what you needed at exactly the right time? Alpen Village Drive-In gave me everything I needed and more, when I was at my most desperate and hungry. My partner and I had just completed a ferocious hike (ok really it was only 5 miles) and we were famished. We remembered a few places to stop for food on the way in, and one burger stand in particular that looked like they could serve us up something quick. We pulled into this burger stop and I was immediately impressed by the menu. They had it all - from an extensive artery-clogging burger list, to fried seafood and milkshakes. I was sold right away. I ordered the cowboy burger, and the person at the counter asked me what I wanted to drink. After listing off the option she said, "oh, and you can get a milkshake too!" My mind was blown. I gasped for air. I couldn't turn that down. A milkshake that comes with my meal? I was in love with this place. After looking at the receipt, it turns out that she up sold me on the milk shake, but I didn't care, I needed it! I don't think I've ever had a peanut butter milkshake before, but it was outstanding. The cowboy burger was fantastic. The onion rings inside were incredibly crispy, and HUGE. This may have been one of the best meals that I've ever eaten inside of my car. That's really not saying much, because it's usually McDonalds, but this food was seriously awesome. Definitely worth a stop if you're hiking or on the way back from skiing.

Elk burger, tasty meat! Also added bacon!

We had been noticing this bakery for a while since we'd driven past it many times on our way to hikes, and we finally got to try it today. I had a breakfast muffin. It was great, very simple yet tasty. At first I thought one muffin might not be enough, but glad that was wrong, I was about 80% full after eating it. My partner got the avocado omelette, it came with toast and hash browns. We were surprised by how fluffy and soft the toast was, definitely the best toast we've had at any breakfast spot. He said the omelette was tasty too. We also grabbed some coffee and pastries before we left. I had a spicy German sausage and a chocolate bar, my partner got an apple fritter and an apple pull apart. I had the chocolate bar later after our hike. It was sweet and fluffy, not too heavy since I had it with coffee. Then I had the German sausage for dinner. The sausage was actually spicy, not just a mild black pepper kind of American European spicy, but a real deal spicy. I loved it! Staffs in the bakery were very friendly and attentive too. I'm glad I got to support such a lovely local business. This place is a solid one.

Proper Patty ($11) - This burger comes with two smash patties, both of which are heavily salted and somewhat crisped up - the pictures from other people make it seem like they cook long enough to get lacy caramelized edges, but it's not quite to that point. Instead, the burgers, while not moist and fatty, aren't dried out either, and give a great beefy flavor. The burger sauce adds some tangy sweetness, and some pickles on top adds even more sweetness, but a very fresh crunch. It's otherwise pretty standard with the lettuce and tomato. A solid smashburger. (4/5) Fries ($5) - These are fried enough to give a crust on the potatoes, but not enough for the fries to be come crisp. Still, they aren't floppy, so while not entirely crisp, these are still good for eating especially since the insides are nice and fluffy. They are salted a lot, which combined with the salty dip (we went with the Bud's Sauce), equals a parched mouth after eating. I think they actually use a lime salt or something as I can detect a bit of citrus flavor. The Bud's Sauce is a nice mayochup mixture with I think a bit of smokiness from paprika and some chopped onion. It's sweet, tangy, and salty. (4/5) Overall Burger Buds serves some nice classic smashburgers! It's great for a visit while in town for a quick and easy meal.
