Staff here are lovely! Every employee I spoke with, either on the phone or in person, was friendly and kind. I greatly appreciated their standup service and commend the Fry's here for their employees' willingness to help customers. Distilled water is here for 0.99 for the gallon, and just a few minutes walk from all the other downtown areas so very conveniently located. It was also super cute that they had a free fruit stand for kids, with actually good fruit. If you don't have the price card, they have a store card they can scan for you! I've been to this location a few different times since it's close to where I work. I stopped by on Monday, February 9 during my lunch hour just to pick up a few items. The staff is friendly overall. There are usually only one or two cashiers open, and most of the time you're directed to self-checkout. Items are usually well stocked, but since this is a smaller store, you may need to look around a bit for certain items or ask an employee for help. The store also has a Starbucks, a deli section, and additional departments, which is convenient when you're short on time. read more

This is a convenient downtown location for groceries and for affordable lunch options. They used to have a lot more options for lunch, but those seem to be going away little by little. They also used to have a small wine bar in the store, that is gone too (huge disappointment, it was our regular stop before events downtown). My go-to grab for lunch is a chicken breast or thigh. It can be on the dry side but I stopped in about a week ago and they had the roasted breasts and thighs in a broth in the deli. It was the first time I'd seen this but turned out it kept the chicken very moist and the broth had an excellent flavor (like, can I buy a small side of that broth good). This week however, the chicken was back in the hot tray with no broth and you guessed it, the chicken is on the dry side again. The guy at the deli said it depends on the cook that day for how the chicken is prepared and presented. Fry's Food Stores is an American supermarket chain owned by Kroger, primarily serving Arizona with over 120 locations. Wow! A legit Fry's right in the heart of DT Phoenix, across from the Mortgage Matchup Center. Popped in after a Billie Eilish concert across the street to use their restroom and buy some drinks. This was a cool Fry's location. Their cheese selection alone had me in awe. I wish the Fry's by my home had a selection this vast. Parking is upstairs. Two hours free parking with purchase. For the longest time, people who lived in Downtown Phoenix never had a major grocery store to shop at. This Fry's became the answer to that when they opened in 2019. Fry's Food and Drug is one of Arizona's largest grocery chains and is a division of Kroger, a retail company based in Cincinnati. This location is huge and is located across the street from where the Phoenix Suns play. When they first announced the opening of this Fry's, I was curious how they were going to manage the parking with so many events that go on nearby. Parking is free with validation on the second floor garage and can be accessed on Washington or Jefferson Street. In addition to groceries, Downtown Phoenix Fry's has a Chompie's counter and a Starbucks. There is also a sushi bar, wine & beer bar and a pharmacy. I am a huge cheese lover and a big fan of Murray's Cheese in NYC. They sell their products here too. One of the things I like to do is grab a bite to eat here before I hit a sports event downtown. Oh man what a cluster! I needed to get some supplies for the hotel and this store in downtown Phoenix looked like a good spot. They had a decent selection of water and they even had Teajava iced tea (try it, it's awesome for unsweetened). Then came the checkout process. Wow!!!! The line was super long, the staff wasn't helpful at all. There were probably more security guards than staff which says a lot. I was able to get my stuff and get out the door. I'd only come back due to the convenience, but I'll be prepared for not getting in and out quickly. CVS may be a better option, but they were already closed. read more

The cashier charged me for an insulated bag, but I changed my mind and picked a different one. He said he removed the first charge, but when I checked the receipt, I saw I was still charged. When I went back, I was told I had to wait in line at customer service. Why should I stand in line for a mistake that wasn't mine? Even the manager insisted I wait. We stopped here frequently on our about-town rounds. I appreciate the value and quality of Kroger brands. We have Game Night Saturdays. Ice cream ends our colliding hours of eating our favorites and playing Sequence. Because Kroger puts ice cream in oval containers, I can get more on the bottom layer, then stack another on top. I cannot do this with cylinder cartons. I always enjoy the employees and their useful service. read more

I remember in the day when Sir Charles Barkley was playing for the Phoenix Suns against Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman. The Bulls were up 3-1 against the Suns when Barkely told a reporter before the game I know we are down 3-1 yet I feel God wants us to win a World Championship. Kevin Durant aka. a former Golden State Warrior is now a Phoenix Sun holding it down now. Fry's is Phoenix's go to grocery store. I am a long time vegan and follow a nourishing plant based diet with mostly whole foods. Several items to my liking were here including Vegenaise aka a wonderful vegan mayo that is better than regular mayo. Ready to use marinated tofu perfect for sandwiches. Organic Unsweet Silk Soymilk which is one of my favorite non dairy beverages. Many varieties of greens including organic kale and organic collard greens along with prepackaged salads. Yellow squash and zucchini. Cucumbers. Bok choy. Lettuce. All in all good variety here and worth checking out. Friendly staff and great location in the heart of downtown. read more

Got yelled at 10:59 by employee to get out of the store since they were closing. We were not warned of store closing. Employee screamed that she told us store was closing which was not true at all. Super unprofessional, could have asked nicely or notified us kindly, but Sofia decided to go on a rampage. I've never been yelled at like that. I remember all the, "Hulabaloo" about when this went in and all the talk on how downtown finally got a grocer. I kept hearing how nice this location was and boy they were not kidding, It really is a gorgeous store. They went all out on this one. I finally had the chance to zoom in when I had a few hours to kill in-between shifts at work. They did a great job matching the inner decor and style of the store to inner city grocers like you see in other major downtown areas like NYC, San Francisco, and Portland. It is beautiful. They have a nice wine counter, cheese counter, and even a take out Chompies, limited menu. It is kind of a pain they way they do payout though. You have to order, then pay elsewhere up front then go back with your receipt to get your food. Not very efficient but also not the end of the world if you know ahead of time but can be a tad inconvenient if in a rush. I had to go back twice because the woman did not ring in all my items. So I had to wait in line twice. Luckily, I was killing time anyway. They also have a nice area to sit down and clean bathrooms as well. I walked in but if you are driving I was told by a coworker who lives in downtown they validate in the garage and even help you walk out your groceries to your car. Or you can take out a cart too. I have never used that option yet but often wondered since I have only seen a lot of walk in Chase field customers using the store pregame. read more

This was my first-time visiting Phoenix and we were looking to pick up some groceries. Luckily, we found this Fry's right near the hotel. I love going to different grocery stores in different cities to see what it is like. It is a large and very spacious grocery store. You have all the typical offerings you find in any other grocery chain. They even have a counter where you can order lunch and relax for a bit. I loved seeing some of the local options that you can't find on the east coast. There were several people coming in and out because it was a Friday and the Suns were playing. The Footprint Center is right across the block so expect large crowds on game day. This was a cool place to pick up some snacks and water for our stay. read more

Wow.. who knew that there's grocery shopping in the center of downtown where you're able to park for free for up to validate 2hrs in the parking ramp to grab grocery. This makes downtown living even more exciting since you really have almost everything at the tip of your fingers living in downtown Phoenix. There's so many businesses opening and already around the area. Love it!!! Sarah and Judy were awesome as one directed me to find an item that I was searching for as the other asked if I needed validation for parking in which I would've forgotten if she hadn't reminded me. There's a Starbs inside which is also a plus! They also have elevators to push your kart to your car with your items, which makes it easy. The store set up threw me off but it was easy to find things as you walked through it. I like stores that are set up in the same buildings as apartments and restaurants which helps people living above these types of businesses, are able to not have to drive or walk very far. Sheesh talk about location location location Definitely recommend stopping/shopping here! This is not a bad Fry's overall. It is smaller, but it has a decent selection for the size. They have a lot of grab and go options, as well as a sandwich bar and an actual bar where you can grab a glass of wine and beer, if that is your thing while grocery shopping, plus the requisite Starbucks. The self checkout is always fast and effective, and I love that they will validate parking up to two hours because I can visit multiple business in one sweep and get what I need from the grocery store. The biggest downside to me is that their shopping cart wheels lock up and you can't even go through the parking lot with their cart. If you don't park in one of the two aisles immediately in front of their doors, you can't take a cart to your car. read more

We went downtown for Kaizen and needed to stop for groceries on the way home, and this was perfectly located. The parking situation is smooth, enter their parking garage on the North side and keep your parking ticket to validate at checkout. Carts are on the same level as parking and there's elevators, they'll take you straight inside Fry's. Everything was stocked. There's a police officer present, and security guards who were friendly enough to help us when we were looking for something. Restrooms are in the back, just ask staff for the code. The Phoenix mural is beautiful too. Overall, a great visit and now my Favorite Fry's! read more

Downtown Phoenix use to be my stomping ground several years ago. At that time, there were no grocery stores nearby, only a CVS few blocks away from my hotel, a convenience store and a gas station several blocks out. So if you wanted actual groceries, your best bet would be to head outside of downtown. Ever since a new condo high rise was built with a Fry's right in the heart of downtown CBD, Phoenix has changed the neighborhood. 11-24-22 Thanksgiving morning This place is in walking distance from our hotel the Kimpton. So glad it was open on Thanksgiving so I could pick up some items my Mother in law asked me to pick up. They had jarred gravy as requested as well as I picked up some champagne. This store has everything which is terrific one stop shopping. Their produce department was beautiful too bad short stay we didn't need anything. This location also had an in store freestanding Starbucks. The line was endless. So glad we found a coffee shop around the corner instead. Definitely next trip to Phoenix will stop in here again. read more

1st and last time visiting this Fry's. I've been looking for alternatives to their competition on 7th/McDowell (sounds like safe-weigh). Walking in, we watched 2 people walking out with obviously stolen liqueur and goods. Once in, every employee that we interacted with was simultaneously doing absolutely nothing and actively avoiding doing anything; "not my department" was uttered to us by one person as she pointed to another employee watching television. Extremely long checkout lines (only 2 open) and a bunch of employees standing around. We were lucky enough to get in the slowest line, with the slowest cashier who was visibly sick (and he said so to the bagger as we were walking off). Good job Fry's, we'll stay with our ghetto long line store because at least the employees are nice/helpful and they have security. read more

A friend of mine once told me there are two types of Kroger's in the world - Kro-ghetto and Kro-Gucci. He christened this Fry's the definition of Kro-Gucci and I completely agree. Sure, every nice grocery store has a Starbucks now, but this one goes a step beyond and adds in local flavor with a Chompie's. It brings so much to the area. Free parking, for one. This is really the only nice grocery store downtown, which already makes it a four star business. But they also have a good range of products, a nice space, and effective staff. Central location and opened with targeted office employees working in downtown. They have tons of restaurant inside along with the fry's kitchen. Starbucks to chompies to a bar, everything is here for a lunch or dinner option. By heart , it's fry's anyways so you get groceries and other convenience items. Lot of fresh food and good options of drinks too. They want people to come and eat there and not just shop their groceries. I would say a great idea and location. I live very close to this Fry's so unfortunately I have to go quite frequently and I'm noticing the same trend every time I go: Plenty of employees on location, looking around, chatting with each other, joking around or looking at their phones or hiding (literally hiding), while 1 single line remains open with the slowest most doofus cashier of all time seemingly purposely going as slow as he possibly can as the line grows and grows and people lose their minds. Unclear why Fry's isn't timing and incentivizing checkout times like Target has been doing for 2 decades to keep things moving. Unclear why they let so many employees just stand around doing nothing. Then there's the zombie people who frequent this place. It's a half homeless shelter. On more than one occasion someone is walking around the store with a pants full of doodoo and you can smell them from 100 yards out. My first time I visited Phoenix back about 10+ years ago, there was no supermarket in the downtown Phoenix area. Maybe a CVS drugstore and that's it. In comes a Fry's Supermarket, which was built only a couple years ago. The supermarket is located in the downtown area and across the street from Chase Field, home of the Diamondbacks and Footprint Center, home of the Phoenix Suns. The store is also walking-distance away from my hotel. This market has everything you need. You want a local brew from Phoenix, a quick bite, or forgot something for your stay-cation, the store has it. I arrived into Phoenix late. And there were not many restaurants in the downtown area that are open after 8pm. Plus, I am not a fine-dining homie. I just had a cold package of Turkey and Swiss slider sandwiches and a 6 pack of a golden lager from Phoenix. There is nothing too fancy from my purchase. Also, no mask is required to shop. I feel pessimistic about the mandating rule. Having a supermarket is also good in Phoenix. We all know how hot that city can get. The store is definitely a nice place to stay cool. LOL! read more

Finally a grocery store downtown. They have only been open 4 days as of this review and it was really busy on a Saturday afternoon. Good selection of fresh flowers as you walk in. The Starbucks and Chompie's are also near the entrance as well as a decent sized selection of prepared foods with a small eating area. They have a few upscale areas such as a good selection of craft beers and ciders, International foods like British HP Sauce and Heinz baked beans - no more trekking to World Market when my Brit hubby needs a fix! They also had some brands of gluten-free bread that I had not seen before and on sale 2 for 1. Several great sales going on likely due to the grand opening. Lots of staff working as well. The only downside so far is the organic produce selection is pretty small. read more

Avoid it if possible! In an attempt to be risk-averse & avoid being either racially or socioeconomically profiled & harassed, I walked into this location on November 4, 2023, around 15:45 P.M. with my eyes wide open. Not seeing the security guard, who is usually in the front of the store, I went to the check-out lanes & stood what I felt was a respectable & nonthreatening distance of roughly 2 check-out stands, both of which were closed, away from the person I was attempting to speak with. A Fry's employee named (Adeline?) couldn't resist the urge to walk over squint her eyes with suspicion while looking me up & down with disgust before engaging in dialogue with me. I asked politely & calmly where I should place my bags to avoid this exact scenario. I was told to ask the security guard, who had gone fishin', where to place them. I look over and state the obvious, saying there was no security guard when I walked in. (Adeline?) instructed me to leave the store & wait for the security guard to return. Which I did for nearly 10 minutes. Getting frustrated at yet again being refused service in Phoenix, I simply left. Even trying to do the right thing is wrong in this section of the city. For whatever reason, the shops & restaurants, by & large, around the homes of the Phoenix Suns & Arizona Diamondbacks seem to engage individuals who look like me with blatant disrespect. The real kicker was that I was standing at the entrance, watching person after person walk past employee after employee with bags or luggage. Not a word was said to them. Now, ain't that something? This place is like way too many other locations in Phoenix. The line of thinking is if you're black, you lie, you're looking to steal, or you're a potential threat. Save yourself the headache & don't visit this location. If you're looking to visit this location during your MLB or NBA fan experience, I strongly suggest against it. Overall, this place is not the best place to go if you're of African descent. As you can see from my other reviews, I have not had the most pleasant experiences lately. However! Navigating to park is the biggest downside to this location. Once you locate the garage to park, enter the FRY's of all Fry's! I will notate that you get two hours of free parking. This location is well stocked, has so many more products than your standard Fry's and is actually more pleasurable to shop. They have a great selection of produce, a wide variety of brands and even a Chompie's inside. The staff was friendly and the checkout process was smooth. Worse, there was mold on packaged items that were on the shelves of the store... very unsanitary. Please raise your standards, Frys! Update: found even more mold on fruit... very gross! I'm a little late to the party, I think this new Fry's downtown location, opened up a month or so ago, but none the less, I just had to check it out! The parking garage is a breeze with validation, just remember your ticket:) This grocery store has lots of little extras in it, Chompie's deli, beer and wine bar, a fabulous cheese counter, and a chicken restaurant! Plus the usual extras such as Starbucks! I really liked the helpful and friendly customer service! I couldn't locate any organic broccoli, and the produce worker, went in the basement to try and locate some for me! Instead of just saying they're "out," thanks for going the extra mile, even though he came back empty handed, I appreciated the effort! The store has a few security guards stationed around the store, helping you feel secure, and will walk you out to your car if you wanted. There's a stupidvisor / manager there that was just a Rude privileged white woman that obviously had racial issues. I'll never go back there, we have been paying customers there since the downtown store opened. We had a basket full of groceries, neatly dressed and asked for the restroom code so that my wife could use the restroom. NO ONE HAD THE CODE !!! Finally Miss Happy showed up and refused to give us the code until we produced a Paid receipt (we were in line to pay ). Even the cashier that was helping us was shocked !! There were NO issues or problems, just needed to use the restroom. She was Rude and disrespectful, I have no doubt that she would have been pleasant if I was white !!! Once you know how to approach the only entrance to the parking garage, you're home free. Drive west on E. Washington Street between N. 2d St and N. 1st St. while being in the far left (south) lane. Look for the garage entrance (watch for loligagging pedestrians) and NOTE THAT you must enter on the LEFT lane of the parking garage ramp, not the right lane. The right lane is for cars leaving the parking garage. Once you're in the parking garage, look for a grocery cart (they are super TEENY -- so they will fit in the glass elevator). Obviously, you can't buy a lot of groceries with that little cart. Find the lobby to the elevator bank for the glass elevators. You are on the 2nd floor in the parking garage, and Fry's is on the 1st floor. The inside is new and clean and well stocked. They put their best employees in this store. There are enough Security Guards. The other customers look like upstanding individuals. You have 2 HOURS to stay parked in the parking lot for free and shop. Get your ticket validated during checkout by the cashier. There is no live attended booth for submitting your validated ticket as you exit the parking lot -- it's just a machine. Have the bar code facing UP. It doesn't matter which direction the ticket is turned. Exiting the parking garage ramp is going to be from its LEFT lane. Use Google Maps to get in and out of Downtown. Now, ask yourself if THIS Fry's can keep vagrants/zombies/panhandlers/shady shoppers out of your face (and purse) in and around the store, why can't OTHER Fry's stores hire enough Security Guards and employees to sweep and pick up trash? read more

OK, we all know this is just Kroger and there are a million of those in America. But this is arguably the best one you'll ever visit! It's much more compact than the rest--after all, it's downtown--but if you can get over some minor sacrifices in your choices you're in for a good experience. Because they can't carry every type of ice cream, booze, etc. that you're used to, be prepared for less variety. But on the other hand, I look at it as a curation process--only the best of their best products are afforded space. You also get the sense this is Fry's for affluent people--the free samples are conspicuously generous, expensive items aren't kept under lock and key, and employees appear generally happy to converse with customers. I'd imagine the staff was curated as well. So after passing up a free cookie and making a beeline for a taste of delicious smoked gouda, I took a look at some of this location's other amenities. There's a small bar that shows sports. There's a sushi bar with $5 rolls on Wednesday. I obliged, and it was as good a California roll as any. Overall, this is going to be my go-to store. Arriving via car is actually a pain, so I'll happy to take advantage of our wonderful winters and just walk next time. A small store with no gigantic parking lot to wade through makes for a smooth, efficient trip. I'll resist the urge to type anything more grandiose--it's still just a Fry's, even if it's the best. read more

When you rush 20 minutes to the store and it's 10:54pm when you get to the door and the store closes at 11:00pm and there is a fry's worker standing at the front door not allowing anyone in.
