This location is on my commute. I often find myself here browsing the wonderful deli section. Their burritos are packed! I've only bought one once, because my normal grab here is chile relleno on my way home. But really, you can't go wrong with any choice here. This dept opens right when the store opens, so it's easy to stop in on my way to work. Sometimes you just want a nice, warm caldo for breakfast. So much better than the little foam cups of stuff. On my way home, I've also gotten chicharron en salsa verde, carne asada, refried beans, spanish rice, chile colorado, ceviche & chimichangas (Not all at once). There are also tables if you decide to eat there. The servers are nice and friendly. The ladies don't always speak english but since I know my Spanish basics, I'm safe. Pshhh, food items were probably the first thing I learned in Spanish (after the bad words). During the summer, the aqua de pepino is so refreshing. Try it. It's my fave one here. The other flavors are just a bit too sweet for me. I do get them once in a while, but water them down at home. read more

Around 7:47 pm, Raquel who was my cashier tonight was so rude, she was tossing my food after she had bagged them. I had confronted and told her that there was no need for her to throw the stuff and she just rolled her eyes and sighed. This is an elder lady btw. I've been going to this store for more than 10 years. So far, it's okay. It's not as great but when certain workers come to a conclusion of accusing you for something you don't do, even if you go there a lot. They wont use their cameras as back up unless if it's too serious for them to take to court or something. I was accused of stealing at least 3 times and the 4th, a security I hardly ever seen just didn't want me to be there, maybe cause of the accusations? 1 time I came in with my book bag and a different security used to be one of my neighbors (good dude) but he still wasted his time for NOTHING, probably because an employee said something after leaving with purchased items in grocery bags (I allowed him check through my whole book bag too). The two other times were still time wasting with nothing for the same different security to retrieve. Some securities are cool af but some ain't and this neighborhood market is in the ghetto so of course they got to be high alert. Failing repeatedly to get the results they've expected of someone doing should definitely start letting security make time reports of these incidents happening so managers or securities can look through their cameras cause at this point it just doesn't feel as welcoming anymore. No matter how long I've been a valuable customer for, get cash backs or even getting cooked food from the side where they make refreshers with loads of sugar. read more

meat, vegetable and bread are always good in prices. you can also order cook food like carne asada burrito or tacos. easy to find stuff inside the store. so ... who reviews a grocery store? I do. I'm tempted to keep quiet about this because I hate lines but everyone here is friendly and professional. The prices are fantastic and I can feed my family of 4 fresh produce for pennies. (seriously, look it up!) The produce managers are always quick with recommendations and answers. The bakery is ... well it's fantastic or it would be gone wouldn't it? I do wish they'd bring back the giant home made apple fritters, hint to management. The bolillo rolls are so light they have to keep them in a plexiglas cage or they'd float away ... AND YOU GET 4 FOR A BUCK! but ... we know that's not why we're here. We're here to discuss the cafe, aren't we? Keep this a secret, but they have the best Sonoran hot dogs. Irene made mine today and I'm going back after I shave my beard, because there's a limit. I may go back after that with a bowler hat & English accent. If I fit in my wifes' dresses ... maybe going full "Klinger" is too far. I've had the grilled chicken, the pico, the tortas, the (I dunno jalapeno & cheese things that I'd call pupusas, but they had a different name.) Green & red chile, it's Saul Goodman. Big fan of this Food City. I mean, I'm a FC guy in the first place but this is on the 'higher end of Food City' (is this even a thing?). It's clean, the staff is helpful, and they actually man the check out lines (a surprisingly rare feature in so many uptown supermarkets). Sure, you aren't going to find your Torini Syrup here -- but they got pork snout. So venture across the 17, if you are feeling sporty, to try the best supermarket experience in the area. read more

great small grocery store. the produce is amazing. always clean. lines are long but move fast. however, the least effective security guy ever. he just SCREAMED at a homeless guy and escalated a very easy situation to being full chaos. literally worse than no security is a security guard who picks fights with customers. read more

I'd just moved, it was late, I was tired and I needed some groceries quick, before I got hangry. Apparently this is the nearest grocery to where I live now. So I thought I'd check it out. It was your typical local hood food store. Yes, their prices are great. The selection of produce was decent. I did get 5 avocados for $1. However they were hard as rocks, so I had to put them in a paper bag for the next couple days. And they do have a nice selection of Mexican food favorites. Would I come here again.... only if I didn't have a car and had to walk. But as long as I've got a car, I'll drive the extra couple miles to shop at my favorite grocery store. And only if I need something for my Mexican meal. Oh and the lines were extra long. Not sure if that is normal, but it was enough to push my hangriness over the edge. read more

Long a$$ check out lines but the cheap produce is worth it. $1 for 4 avacados! Sure they aren't ripe but give em a week. I was impressed that the girl checking me out knew every produce code by heart (even sweet potato and yam)! read more

i used to go here all the time. there was this guy who would sell tamales outside the store. everyday as we left the store we'd hear "tamale, tamale" this guy was selling them for 1$ a piece. they were so good! i miss that place read more

It's right around the corner from my condo. I know everyone there by name like a neighborhood grocery in the '50s. I learn Spanish too. I wish they'd shoo away the beggers from the front. Probably 1 of 3 times I'm asked. Don't give me a hard time like I should give money or else I wouldnt be living in that neighborhood and I'd go broke if I shelled out money everytime! Also everything is so "Mexican" only selection of anything is either plain or strawberry or spicy. read more

Came down to visit family in Phoenix Az and we needed to go buy some items to make posole and fresh fruit juice. Arrive to the food city on 27th and camelback to find that the pineapple were going bad, (they had a small amount of fungus growing on them). Then we go to the meat market only to have The lady working in that department (Milagros), make an ugly face expression and mutter something under her breath when I asked for help. There was no one else in line so i don't know where the problem was. I placed my order and instead of getting freshly cut meat as I was expecting ,she takes me to the already packed meat. I went to the meat area to get freshly cut meat and get the amount of lbs I wanted not already packed and weighed. read more

Check out lines are usually long and cashier's are a bit slow. I guess it is understandable when they have to type in codes for the open vegetables. Cheap food. Good service. The only thing is that the employees like to assume you speak spanish. Happened on more than one occasion which kind of dings them a little. read more

Are the prices great? Yes. That is something that is not in dispute. There are produce items that will always be a lot less expensive than other supermarkets. My issue is with the checkout lines. They are always long and slow. Walmart has faster lines and I hate Walmart lines. I live less than a mile away, and I rarely go because I know I'll grow another gray hair waiting in line. read more

This is a nice store. The prices are fair, the store is always stocked and nicely cleaned. The staff is nice there and they are a little slow, but not that bad. The employees are always happy to help. This is a good store to shop at. Me and my husband shop here all the time. read more
