Three stars for the international snack safari I apparently signed up for. I did the classic move where you walk every single aisle like you're studying abroad for snacks. Somewhere along the journey I became determined to find the deli olives that were on sale... but could not for the life of me figure out which counter they belonged to. I also didn't want to interrupt anyone because the place was busy, so instead I just wandered around looking suspiciously like someone casing the olive situation. That said, I was shocked at how much I ended up with for how little I paid. Organic tahini, Biscoff cookies (obviously), a few pickled items, some produce... somehow my cart kept filling up while my total stayed reasonable. I also realized halfway through that I should have bought a kettle here instead of the one I recently purchased elsewhere. Regrets. I was definitely a busy day at the market with lots of interesting stuff, especially if you like foods a little outside the norm. It's a bit out of my way for regular trips, but I could see myself swinging back through on Wednesdays for the deals... and possibly finishing my olive investigation. read more

I was told about Baiz 20th street location years ago by a coworker who brought in their baklava. I went and enjoyed small Middle Eastern market. Awhile back they came to mind to discover they opened a larger market over near me. In reality I'm close to either but the big store I luv. They house a restaurant that makes fresh Middle Eastern bread. Baklava bar that is insanely good, and their butcher bar is amazing including Hilal meats (research Hilal meat better than how our American meat is processed). Hilal is like Kosher in that it is a religious way they render their meats. Back to the review they added an olive bar and I'm a green Olive fanatic. Try the grilled green olives if you go and you'll get your life. Produce is fresh and reasonably priced. I had never heard of this grocer before. I saw it was an international food store. That piqued my interest so I went in to investigate. The staff were welcoming and acknowledged me upon entry. I was intrigued by the different and unique spices; some from India and some Mediterranean brands. If you want a bargain on spices this is a good place to visit. But on the other hand, they have the same good selection and prices, and most importantly, they now have an in-house oven churning out $1 fresh, hot miniature breads on the spot, which instantly brings it up to 5* in my book. read more

I like their bulk rice, cookies, spices, bread, frozen and refrigerated items, and dry goods. Lots of variety and they have sales every week. The cashiers are always super efficient and friendly. Well lit, sensibly organized. Nice selection, particularly at the deli. Staff was also helpful and friendly. You know you're in a good shop when there are multiple feta cheese selections at the deli! I'll have to stop by another time to look at all the packaged cheeses - there were a lot of them. The oil-cured olives were great. Beware of the expiry dates - there are a lot of items that are close to expiry date like meat, yoghurt etc. Some import products have a really overpriced tag for example frozen Turkish tortellini filled with beef, 1 lb, for proud $12! That is a rip off. Also the toilets were dirty. All in all there is a weird vibe in this place. Will not come again. The male workers putting the groceries in were unfriendly. I ordered catering from the Baiz restaurant for a work party at my home. We ordered chicken shwarma, beef shwarma, rice, hummus, baba ganoush, tabbouli, spinach pies, falafel, fattoush salad. And then the spectacular pistachio baklava from the bakery. I went to Baiz in person to make sure there were no misunderstandings on the order. They got it perfectly. Almost all of the food was fantastic and people raved. I'm not sure I love their spinach pies and I think the fattoush may have been a bit overwhelmed by the generous helping of pita chips, but otherwise it was all near Mediterranean perfection. Their hummus, baba ganoush, tabbouli and garlic sauce are epic! The slimmest guy on our team consumed eight pieces of baklava! Very reasonably priced for the quality and amount of food. Came here on Saturday to explore. I always consider cleanliness, odor, and variety when I check out ethnic markets. This market was decently clean, nothing glaringly dirty. The display was not aesthetically pleasing but functional. I am okay with that. But, the place deserves a solid 4 because it offers hard-to-find items at reasonable prices as the groceries sold here are the staples in middle-eastern cuisine and not "exotic" foods which are marked up. What I will come here to buy: large bottles of grapeseed oil, fresh naan bread (when their bakery starts up), olives, baklava and other pastries by the pound, herbs in bulk (like Fenugreek, Mint, Chives, Arugula, etc.) basmati rice, middle-eastern herbs, nuts, teas, etc. What I will not buy: deli-prepared falafel (tried it and it was not that good), housewares (teapots, kettles, etc.), traditional/mainstream groceries like milk, deli meat, eggs, etc. as the mainstream grocery stories tend to sell these at more reasonable prices and offer fresher products due to the high turnover. read more

Further towards the back, they have tables and chairs for your dining pleasure. Bathrooms are in the back, right of the store for your hand washing pleasure. Al Hana is the eatery with in. They would get five stars but they are a little slow in getting the food out. Their Falafel is outstanding. It is wrapped up with herbs (parsley etc.) and that makes it all the better. The dining and shopping experience comes highly recommended. The prices are good. Portions are not overly large. What a treat it is for the west side of the city that Baiz has established its newest store here! I've been here twice since their soft opening and have been delighted to see so many hard-to-find food items such as sumac, pomegranate molasses, Aleppo peppers, Kashmiri chili and various other spices for Middle-Eastern cooking, uncommon fruit preserves and dried fruits, tannour and other flatbreads, and even South Asian snacks such as nan khatai and pani puri. In addition to a large dry goods / grocery section, there is also a fresh produce area, refrigerated sections for dairy and frozen foods, a fresh meats and processed meats section, and a big counter featuring a spectacular array of Middle-Eastern sweets such as several varieties of baklava, halvah, swart isat, and more. The spacious, spanking clean store also has a restaurant area (Al Hana), like the original store in the east side of the city. Speaking of which, that original store has limited parking but that won't be an issue for this west side branch, as it is located in a big commercial plaza with a huge parking lot. If I could rate it lower I would. I can't believe the population that shops at that grocery accepts the quality of that food. Oh My God and the stench from whatever "mint" bleach cleaner they use. Anyway, it didn't look clean. It didn't taste fresh. It wasn't a restaurant, but just a deli counter inside the supermarket which was misleading. Awful. The worst middle eastern food I've had in the valley. Would not return for any reason nor recommend. However, the supermarket is okay with the expected types of food for that ethnicity. This was my favorite grocery store until recently. They change hours randomly and don't keep the store as clean as before. Some of the ethnic clique stuff is becoming increasingly unappealing to the indigenous neighborhood. I do not even know where to begin with this place... Their bakery counter is my personal heaven. The selection and price is amazing. I can't believe I didn't take a picture of the treats I got, because they are not only delicious, they are also gorgeous. The woman behind the counter was so helpful in making recommendations and being patient while I looked over every single tree before deciding. This place is a hidden treasure. I will absolutely get my baklava and desserts here the next time I host a party! I have never been so embarrassed in my life like the guy making the sandwiches embarrassed me. I will never go to that location again, I'll stick with 20th Street. My mother has been very sick since Nov. on Monday she was feeling good for the first time. So after her drs appointment I decided to take her to Baiz because she's been dying to see the new store, and thought we can have lunch there. We ordered beef Shawarmas, she cannot have tomatoes and since there was 4 of us, I figured I'll just order them all without tomatoes to make it easier and just asked for either pickles or turnips instead. Not only did he not put any pickles or turnips but put tomatoes on all the sandwiches. I took hers back and he wanted to just take the tomatoes out, I said no it's medically harmful to her, that's why we said not tomatoes. He said well I didn't read the ticket...oook. The girl behind the counter told him to just give me the sandwich and make a new one. He started yelling at her as to why give me a free sandwich. They went back and forth until I lost it and yelled back that I don't need a free sandwich and to stop it. I was so embarrassed. People were starring at me. Also I bought some pastries that were very stale, and bought a lb of candied fruit, I said please half pears and half apricots.
