I've wanted to try their breakfast sausage for a while and I put it off driving here for years since they normally close about 4pm and it wasn't convenient for me to drive there. They are only open four days a week, so you're driving any distance, some planning is required. I did drive here once, which is a 45 minute drive, and they were closed when I got there. It was about 2:30pm. There was a sign on the window saying there were some staffing issues. The breakfast sausage is absolutely excellent. I saw they also have Land-O-Lakes American cheese and it was actually cheaper than Walmart, which was quite a surprise. Overall, I love this place and I would highly recommend it. read more

A Phoenix institution. They have great sausage and lunch meat recipes. Lately, I've been making my own sausage but I definitely still fill in the gaps with their sausage. It's small and parking can be an issue. But we try and go first thing and that usually helps. Their Cajun and Italian sausages are our favorites but some smoked sausages are good too. Their brats aren't my favorite but that could be a matter of taste. read more

I am driving out to Springfield MO to see some friends and the one thing I was told I had to bring along was 25 pounds of Tasso because my friend Sara said she could not get it anywhere else. The employees at the wholesale pickup in back of the main store were very helpful and boxed it nicely for transporting it across half the United States. It is worth noting that while the main shop is closed on Mondays the building behind it where you can pick up bulk orders you have placed is open on Mondays during what would be their usual store hours. read more

It was a cool little place inside, and the staff behind the counter were very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They weren't kidding when they advertised this place as a fine sausage shop. They have a wide variety of sausages from different regions. Whether it's Portuguese linguisa, Spanish chorizo, Mexican chorizo, or Cajun Andouille, chances are you'll find something you'll enjoy. The shop is super tiny and it was busy on Saturday afternoon but everyone waiting to place orders and the staff were friendly and in jovial spirits (Who wouldn't be if you are buying a ton of delicious sausages). I decided on some Sicilian and Spanish chorizo sausages. The Sicilian sausage was uncooked and the Spanish chorizo was dry-cured. We pan fried the Sicilian. It was full flavored, with a bit of heat from chiles. The sausage itself was tender and juicy. Note that they accept credit with no surcharge for purchases over $10. For smaller orders under $10 I think there's a $1 fee. I'm hoping to use the Spanish chorizo for some paella this week. I'm excited to use fresh sausage for this dish! 4.5/5 read more

Schreiner's has been a fixture forever. It is a small and relatively unassuming place around seventh Street and Osborn. Simply put, they make and carry the best sausage and related products in the valley. I recently bought some andouille and it was typically excellent. I would also recommend the bratwurst and the Italian sausage and pretty much anything else in their case. They also have lunch meat that they will slice. I tried some of their Genoa bologna and it was just great. So by all means, try this place if you have not done so. read more

First of all, how does this place only have 69 reviews? This place has been around forever and has the best damn sausage you can find, anywhere! I have had their sausage plenty of times (at different restaurants throughout Phoenix) and it has always been excellent. I decided to stop by the store and pick some up to grill at home. I got there on a Saturday around 12:30, and there were a few other people in the store. They had 3 people working behind the counter and a nice young lady took my order. I went with a smoked Polish kielbasa, a smoked bratwurst, a smoked linguisa, and 2 sweet Italian sausages. My total for 5 sausages was just over $9.00. Here is how they were.......... Smoked Linguisa- I prepared this one for breakfast. I removed the casing of this sausage and broke it up into a bunch of little nuggets. I cooked it in a pan with some olive oil and had it with eggs. The little pieces of linguisa got nice and crispy, almost like a bacon/pancetta. The flavor was great and it was an awesome sausage. I would definitely buy it again. 4.5 stars. Smoked Polish Kielbasa- I prepared my Polish by poking a couple of holes in it, then simmering it in a little beer/water bath. I transferred the sausage to the grill to finish it off. Know what happened next? Perfection! The Polish has a great texture to it. It is a very "full" sausage and the consistency and flavor was perfect. I usually prefer bratwursts or Italian sausages over a Polish, but this sausage may have been one of the best sausages I have ever had. Perfect mix of flavor, fat and texture. I will get some of these every time I stop by. Can't get a better sausage than this Polish! 5 stars! Smoked Bratwurst- I am usually a huge fan of most bratwursts. Whenever I go to my hot dog spot (Ted's), I always get a bratwurst. Ted's bratwursts are smoky, have great texture and are flat out delicious. I cooked my Schreiner's bratwurst with my Polish. Beer bath, then grill. The bratwurst was good. Not as smoky as I like it though, and the flavor of this sausage reminded me more of a hot dog, than a bratwurst I am used to. Good, but not great. 3.5 stars. Sweet Italians- Prepared the same as the Polish and bratwurst...a little beer/water simmer, then on the grill. The Italians had a little bit looser of a casing than the other 3 sausages I got. Once cooked in the liquid bath though, they did tighten up a bit. When they came off the grill they looked great! These Italians were mighty fine. Nice flavor, good texture, enough spices inside and they paired very well with a horseradish mustard. This would be a great sandwich sausage with some peppers and onions. I will buy them again for sure.. 4.5 stars. Overall, it was one fantastic "Sausage Sunday" (Yes, I ate all 5 today!). I'm still thinking about that Polish! It was perfect! Linguisa and Italians were very good, too! The Bratwurst was a little bit of a letdown, but it was still tasty enough. I can't wait to come back and try out some more of their encased meats (They make over 60 varieties of sausage!)! These sausages are way better than anything you can get at your grocery store. Sure, they cost a little bit more, but the quality and taste can't be beat. They have my business for life and I will continue to drive out here from Surprise to get some excellent sausages! read more

I wanted to love the sausage... I did love visiting Schreiner's and seeing their cute shop and large selection of sausage and other items. One of the reasons I went out of my way to visit was I was looking for craft made sausage using good meat. I bought three different kinds of sausage and tried the two smoked Polish first. The flavor was delicious but my quest for quality was squelched when I started getting big chunks of fatty gristle. I ate one sausage and had this happen several times... I reluctantly ate the second sausage but had the same experience. I don't think I'll be trying the other two types I purchased. My search for sausage without that awful gristle will continue and sadly I won't be returning to this place. read more

This Is all customer service 1 stars. I have been coming here over 20 years. Always great customer service and product is 1 star. Its just me now so I wanted some potatoe and macaroni salad. I asked for 1/2 a pound each. Was told no the only sell 1lb and 2lb. So I said ok can I get a 1lb container and put half potato and half macaroni since I can't eat that much before it spoils. She said no I had to buy a whole pound of each. So I said fine she packs as much as she can so it's way over a pound and they weigh it out do it's not sold by container. I said I just want a pound since I'm throwing half out. So she took some out. I don't understand why they can't accommodate their customers since it cost the same per pound and I was fine having it in 1 container. I bought half a pound of jerky for $18. I'm surprised I did not have to buy a full pound of jerky for over $33 a pound. I will not be back. I'd rather spend my money where I'm treated decent. She was so rude about it. Well I have tried both salads and the girl lied to me. This is not homemade salads that they use to get from a local restaurant. This is cheap gross mass produced salad like you buy in the grocery store delis. If this is what I wanted I would not have drove 15 miles to buy this. They use to have the best salads. read more

Spent summers as kid in Melrose, MN. at grandma's house. The German sausage from local butcher was amazing. Later in life my old man discovered a replica of that sausage in Yakima, WA. He would drive from TriCities, WA. 70 miles just to get it. During my 23 years in Hawaii and 16 years in Vegas, every trip to TriCities to visit and fish, included a drive to Yakima to load up on sausage. I don't have to do that anymore. The smoked Polish, Hungarian and Portuguese sausage at this place is just as good. If not better. Thank God !! read more
