clean staff was nice but when I see a butcher shop on a Thursday before a holiday weekend in the kitchen is closed and nobody's working in the back and nothing's getting prepped out or cut. It's not a real butcher shop. All the meat is just out of a local distributor maybe trimmed they don't do any aging there. I asked the guy. After hearing about The Meat Shop for years I finally became motivated to drive down to 202 E. Buckeye Rd and are we happy we tried this place. I needed a bone in 7 pound pork butt to heavily season and slow cook for ten plus hours before adding the homemade bbq sauce. The recipe called for the meat to be shredded with two forks when cooked. This meat came out so tender that just touching it- it fell apart! The flavor was incredible! our ten houseguests moaned about the flavor. Hands down, the best Prime Ribeye, I've ever found. Hour smoke at low temp in the Traeger with reverse, cast iron sear and finished with Meat Shops Butter-luxe steak seasoning. I've yet to be outdone on my grill when it comes to steak; besides my mad skills standing on the grill side, the quality of the meat is a big differentiator. The Meat Shop cuts a fine steak and while many think it might be expensive, a similar cut at a steakhouse will quickly be over $50. The cuts here are worth every penny. I've always appreciated the quick service, even when busy. Tbh, I haven't picked up anything else, but the other meats do look good. I was hosting a Christmas dinner for friends and family and decided on ham for the main course. They offered fully cooked, smoked hams which took out most of the hard work of cooking! I was given instructions to reheat and to make a glaze (although I opted for my own glaze) and it turned out excellent! I also received one pound of ground beef for free for checking in to their establishment. We cooked it for some spaghetti tonight and it is delicious! I can tell the difference between the quality of their meats and the grocery store (and I shop at Sprouts). Thank you for such great service and excellent meats! I will be back for sure. read more

this is the best kept secret in the Valley... and everyone should make the trip and indulge in the old-fashion butcher experience. Our filets are cut to our thickness and we are always pleased. they even have special honeys and a wide assortment of spices. we buy our dog food there (raw beef) and they love it ! my husband loves the ribeye and i love the filet... we took an assortment of meats to Telluride last month and all the guests were delighted. Definitely wouldn't order a brisket from this place again. The brisket had no fat cap. There was a dark spot due to either old or exposed to air too long. There was also hair on it. Assuming it is from the cow. I cut away what should have been trimmed at the butcher and still tried to cook it. Was the worst brisket I have ever had. read more

Dry aging at the front counter, meats trimmed perfectly with no over excess fat to push the price up, the marbling in the prime looks nearly wagyu quality, every sought after cut you're looking for and literally band sawed my steaks fresh for me and then chamber vacuumed it. Forgive me, my dear vegan friends. Close your eyes...this one is for the meat eating minions! You looking for something special? Maybe some bison, or perhaps some venison or other exotic meat. How about rabbit, lamb, grass fed beef, or even some English bangers, or sugar free sausage? This is the place to start looking. This is a small but mighty butcher shop in a very industrial part of Phoenix. It is non-descript, clean and neat, and friendly. They own a small farm where they get their supply of pork. They also support other local farms for their other meats. They hand butcher, they smoke their own meats. Their steaks and pork chops are beautiful and thick. Their sausages can be purchased in bulk or as links. I tried to pick up a chunk of smoked bacon. They were out, a run on it I guess, but that means it must be..... terrific. Instead, I selected a small chunk of smoked ham hock, skin on, to make a pot of savory bean soup to celebrate the Fall of 2013. And a one inch thick, rib cut pork chop, and a package of freshly made breakfast sausage patties. We will eat well during our visit to Phoenix. The lady behind me chose the one remaining 2 inch thick, bone-in rib eye steak. Then dared to ask them to cut it into two thinner steaks. Can you imagine that? Aaaarrrrgh. Mr. B started to cry and called out, "Don't do it!" The butcher gave her a stern look and said, " Listen to the man!" But she didn't. We tried but failed. Pray for that steak. Finally, if you dare, get on their list for the "prix de la journée", some succulent bone marrow bones. Apparently worth the wait, as the list is quite long. But that day will come when you will get that call to go pick it up. You will find yourself slurping up that tasty roasted mess and declaring you are now ready for the end of the world. Love the fact that we can get fresh local meat at reasonable prices. I tried the Hot & Sweet Italian sausages as well as some Chorizo. I immediately thawed 1/2 of each of the sausages and made Sausage and Peppers for the 1st time. What I've found out over the years is you have a much better chance at a home run with fresh flavorful ingredients and I was not disappointed, the pork was amazing! Chorizo wasn't spicy enough for my taste. It was missing something. Yet I still feel like I hit a home run and I will definitely be back for all my pork needs! read more

I have never tasted the worst sausages and ribeye steaks ever.The sausages were tasteless and the ribeyes were tough and had no taste. It's worth 4 stars for the bacon alone. I had been meaning to stop by for some time and finally cleared all the meat out of my tiny freezer. When I got there at 8 on Saturday with my cooler I was the only customer. The butcher and assistant were very helpful and my bacon, chops, steak and roast were all cut to order. I also got some hamburger. Everything was sealed. Even knowing grass fed beef cooks quicker I still over did my steak. :( Unless you have incredible self control this place is like Costco when it comes to impulse buying and $100 and more is spent before you know it. Because they currently only get one steer a week many of the popular beef cuts have a waiting list. It was definitely worth the trip downtown and I will be back again. read more

Specifically, a Game of Thrones inspired cookbook complete with medieval meals transcribed word for word in barely readable Middle English (thank you Mrs. Petticord, for requiring us to read Chaucer). The meal we picked required squirrel. Enter the Meat Shop. If there is a reason for a place called the Meat Shop to exist, it is either to sell things like squirrel or because prostitution has been legalized. And while I'm all for the legalization of prostitution, I'm also glad there is a place in Phoenix that sells squirrel. How do you eat coney? Young, tender, nice coney? Eat them raw! Eat them fresh! Or...put them in a stew like a good Hobbit. Am I mixing my fantasy worlds? Perhaps. Regardless, I enjoyed my 17th Century Hobbit meal from just south of the Wall. I wanted to like this place so much. We moved to south mountain area from Gilbert recently and I needed to find a good chicken wing hook up. I used to get my fix from Gilbert Butchery which charged $5 per lb for FRESH chicken wing pieces. They already have the wings separated into drumettes and flats and they don't sell you the inedible wing tip. So back to "The Meat Shop." I got friends coming over to watch the football game and I want to deep fry some bomb @ss wings for them. I call ahead to see if they have chicken wings in stock. They say they do. I swing by, wait to finally get inside (COVID), and go up to the counter. I order 6 lbs of chicken wings. A lady goes to the back, comes back out front with a grocery store bag tied up. No weighing anything in front of me and no sight of chicken wings in the window. Suspect, but not the end of the world. I pay the man and head to the car. I then untie the bag to find 6 freezer sealed bags of whole chicken wings (inedible wing tip included). So not only are they including a part of the wing that you can't eat into the weight of what your purchasing, but they are also charging $5.75 lb for it! (75 cents more expensive than Gilbert Butchery.) On top of that, the bags say that they were packaged mid September. It was late November when I purchased them. I did a little bit of research and I see that the chicken wings come from a local farm and they are cage free, which I can appreciate, but the size of the wings are significantly smaller than what you would find at other butchers. I would have been much better off paying 1/3rd the price at Walmart or Fry's for whole wings. I'm willing to spend north of $5 per lb if the wings are already cut and exclude the wing tip as this makes it much easier to fit more into a deep fryer or air fryer. But for small frozen wings that were packaged months prior to me buying them, I think not. I can't speak for their other meats, but after that experience I'm not willing to give them another shot. read more
