Went here to eat and let my kids play their video games. Ordered our food: Pizza for the kids and Mom, and I ordered a burger. After ordering we went to play the video games. One game took my 6-year old daughters $1. I asked our waitress about getting the money back and she told me there was a number to call. When I asked what the number was going to do for me she, with attitude, said I will get the manager. The manager gave us the $1 back and informed us that it was play at your own risk of losing money. Then I saw my burger had been set at our table without the rest of our food. Not wanting it to get cold I ate the entire burger and fries before the pizzas were anywhere near ready. When I asked the manager where the rest of our food was she informed me the kitchen was unable to get all of the tables food out at the same time because they were too busy. I have been here several times when it was far more busy and had more people in the restaurant and more people at my table and all of our food has come out at the same time and at the least warm. We asked for a check for the food we have had and needed to go because it had been an hour since we ordered. I stepped away with the kids and the manager brought us our $55 check for a burger, two beers, and white wine. No itemized receipt until my wife asked for it. And when my wife questioned the bill, the managers response was "you don't have to tip" and walked away. Needing to get out of there and get McDonalds for our kids and get them to bed we rushed out without looking at our itemized bill. After getting home it turns out she charged us for extra beers. Frothy Beard Brewing Company is craft brewery that opened in Charleston, South Carolina in 2013. It was founded by friends Michael Biondi, Steve McCauley and Joey Siconolfi. The trio all met when they were students at Clemson University. After moving to Charleston, they quickly discovered that they shared a passion for home-brewing. After realizing how much time and money they were spending on the activity, they finally decided to take the plunge and open their own brewery. The name of the brewery was inspired by one of their favorite books: "Lord of the Rings". The trio imagined a character from the novel enjoying a beer at the bar with froth all over his beard. Upon opening in 2013, they were only the 10th brewery in South Carolina. Originally located in North Charleston, they relocated to their current spot in West Ashley in 2017. In addition to their tasty brews, Frothy Beard is also known for crafting delicious pizza pies. A second location, entitled Frothy Beard Off World Brewery and Taproom, opened in nearby Summerville in September 2021. My wife and I visited Frothy Bears Brewing Company while we were on an East Coast Road Trip. We were visiting our cousins who live nearby in Summerville (right outside of Charleston). One day they offered to babysit our son so we could go off and have an afternoon to ourselves. We decided to head to the brewery for a delicious pizza and beer lunch. We immediately loved the interior: a nice chill place with lots of humor, movie references, and friendly company. After looking over the drink menu, I ordered a beer flight consisting of "Charleston Moves" (Session IPA), "Sip Sip Pass" (Hazy New England IPA), "Bubbles the Destroyer of Worlds" (IPA), and "Necromancer 4 Roses Bourbon Barrel-Aged" (Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Porter). The latter was my favorite! My wife ordered a glass of Frosé which she loved. For food, we decided to share the "Margherita" (Red base, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, olive oil, garlic) and the "Sun & Sal" (White base with garlic, salami, chives, sun-dried tomato, bit of honey). Both were delicious and paired well with our drinks. Before leaving, I ordered a full pour of "Great White Wit" (Witbier). We ran into Frothy Beard after dinner one night. Although our dinner was good, we were upset because the pizza at Frothy Beard smelled amazing! Frothy Beard offers a great indoor and outdoor seating area. Frothy Beard exudes a "geek, nerd vibe" in both the decoration of the bar, the t-shirt designs, and in the names of the beers. There is a huge selection of beer in both their regular lineup and some experiment one offs. I forgot to log which four beers we tried but they were all very good. One beer was blue, which has to be a first! When i had posted on Facebook that we were visiting Frothy Beard, another beer friend immediately followed up with "Did you try their pizza?!?!" so that pizza must be pretty good! read more

First the service is horrible. When seated we elected to go outside. Well no one told us you don't get any wait staff or menus. We had to then go inside to get menus & order. Not a big deal but wish we were told. There were 6 of us at the party. We got 1 table number. Well they brought the food out 1 dish at a time. By the time last person got the food, first was done. A couple of us got the burger which tasted like some high school cafeteria food. Over cooked & rock hard. The pretzel bites were rock hard, no salt. The pizza was flavorless. The chicken sandwich was over cooked & dry. The mozzarella sticks were awesome. It is extremely over priced for high school cafeteria food. Won't be back & wont recommend it. We tried out this restaurant from a friends recommendation. Neither of us drink alcohol so we were there just for the food. We had the barbecue chicken pizza with no bacon which was very tasty with just the right amount of spice. $15 for a 10 inch pizza with thin crust is definitely overpriced but it was delicious. We also had the Brussel sprouts (small plate for maybe $11?) which were good (probably a six out of 10). The Tennessee moonshine wings ($11 for 6) were very good. Definitely recommend! Some of the drumsticks were quite meaty. And then the monster slice is $8.50 plus $1.50 or $1.75 per each topping you put on. Overall I would say this is elevated bar food that is tasty but very overpriced. Also, be aware that it is very very dark if you sit upstairs... so much so I had to use the light on my phone to even see the menu and definitely could not see my receipt. my pictures are somewhat poor quality because of how dark it was. The ceilings are quite high so it was extremely loud as there are quite a lot of children screaming and folks talking loudly and it echoed around the room. Our waiter was very friendly but I did not have a drink refill for probably 25 minutes and the Brussel sprouts and barbecue pizza were spicy so that was not very pleasant. There did not seem to be a lot of wait staff and we were upstairs so I took that into account. Finally, due to the lighting I could not see my receipt at all and I did not realize that if you use a debit or credit card you are charged a 4% fee which I wasn't very happy about. Too crowded and loud. Started out OK for lunch.I arrived before 1:30 and got a table. My Two friend's & infant were held up in the parking lot doing infant stuff. We were denied the lunch special menu..ok Keegan and a girl who was working her 1st day were the only ppl on the floor. Long story short we loved them but then there was a shift change. Horrible. My friends left to beat the traffic & I had a broken down car but had an appointment for a rental to pick me up. I moved to the corner plugged in my phone and start handling business while waiting drinking water. I had my lunch stting on ice bc it's 100 degrees in my car. The manager who would not disclose her name but has 2 nose rings, a bad attitude, long dark wavy hairand freaked out when I gently touched her elbow while discussing my to go things. She said she doesn't like to be touched. I apologized. Fast forward 7pm. My rental couldn't pick me up. She was working alone. On the phone with my extended warranty trying to figure things out in the corner. Not bothering anyone. Decided to download lyft. Walked to the bar and the extremely short bartender, Joey, couldn't hear me. I stepped up on the high rise chair, slipped, caught my ankle bone on the sharp chair edge. Joey couldn't figure out what Keegan had poured me and said he was busy. Nice. The customer next to me, Sarah, was concerned bc my ankle was black & blue. I grabbed ice from a water glass left behind and immediately lifted my foot up an iced my ankle. I requested an injury report as I am 66. Manager mentioned came over. She said I wasn't allowed any alcohol. No problem I had 2 beers from 1:30-3pm. Just thought since I'd be waiting for a lift I could have a beer. I asked her to take pictures which is standard. She basically told me it was my fault and my shoes were wet. OK. I showed her my shoes were dry and she said something rude. Joey came back. Said he didn't see me slip. Haha lady next to me Sarah already gave me her info as a witness. Wow. I only had ice on my ankle 5 minutes and manager decides I have to leave. I asked Joey for ice but was ignored. Maddy, a sweet waitress came over. She went to the corner and got my phone and paperwork. She helped me walk outside hobbling. Waiting out there trying to download the lift app took forever and my ankle was swelling. I tried to call the brewery owner. No answer. Sent pics no response. It was 7:30pm by now but still early. Worst experience ever. Finally got home 9pm. Brewery is boycotted. We like trying new placed. Food sucked. Charleston is so overwhelmed with the 30 000 new ppl since covid everyone who has a job is miserable and can't be bothered to show southern hospitality we've been famous for. I've only been to 3 breweries in 10 years but this was the worst. Try Edmonds Oast or the one on the water off Azalea drive. A+ for them. ​ read more

I enjoyed the Peppermint Porter(cleverly named, but h forgot) and a cider (from another brewery down the road) while I was there and ended up buying a couple of cans to-go. I'm here for this spot! The Scene This open area restaurant usually has cartoons on for kids, some video games to be played, and a couch for lounging. While I haven't partaken, I see a constant stream of events like Star Wars Trivia on Wednesday, Trivia on Thursday, a running club, and vendor fairs. Check the Facebook as they are great on social media posting. The Eats Ok so my Dad drank beer and as I child, I smelled it and took a sip. It was enough to keep me from ever thinking about drinking it. I tried at a brewery in Savannah a few years ago and didn't care for anything I sampled. Now at 42, I sampled the Out at Third - a sweet Belgian Pilsner that has a high alcohol content with banana flavors but still light with a sweet candy aroma. I didn't dislike it as I feel it would pair with pizza very well so I'll give it a full size try next time. I did not like any of the cocktails that we have ever ordered. The food is provided by onsite pizzeria, Zombie Bob, using a beer-infused crust and it really works. I'm not a vegetarian but I really like veggie pizza and they just don't have one outside of adding individual toppings making it an almost $20 personal pizza and that bothers me. Parting Thoughts I love pizza and my fiancé loves the burger so we'll add this to our date nights on trivia nights and drop in for events. It's a great West Ashley spot! read more

I was only in town one night and Frothy Beard was close to my hotel. I had the Chicken Parmaggedon (because how could I not?) and it was terrific. Huge, delicious, and with just perfect amounts of fried chicken, melty cheese, and warm sauce on the side. The Parmesan crusted (and Italian seasoned) tortilla was a great touch. I grabbed a watermelon wheat beer and a flight (a marzen, a NEIPA, a jalapeño pale ale, and the Leo). All the beers were top notch, the staff was great, and their Tuesday night special, where they open the whiskey cabinet and give you tasting notes, was a stellar idea. Great brewing company! Love the beer and the atmosphere -- very geeky (Star Wars, GoT, etc). I have visited a good handful of breweries in Charleston and this is by far one of my favorites. I love that there's a pizza place in the brewery because who doesn't love pizza and beer?! Very tasty brews and accurately described beers on tap and seasonal so it's always fun! If you don't like beer they do have wine as well! The seating was versatile from couches to barstool to seating above the vats for brewing to ground floor tables and slightly secluded back room tables. I was bummed because only on my way out did I take note of the shuffle board (poorly salted though) or the arcade joystick games (x2). There are three screens with Nintendo 64 controllers readily available to play for those, like me, that would enjoy the nostalgia of Mario brothers etc. read more

#FiveStarFriday I've been a patron of Frothy Beard for many years, even in their initial warehouse location. This location is much closer to my house and work, so I get to come here more often than I could at the old location. They are in a central part of town with a large parking lot so it's more convenient for most people to meet up now, too. There is a private room with it's own bar that can be rented out for special occasions. Looks like it can easily hold about 30 ppl, but don't trust me on that and check with them first. There is also a half upstairs overlook area above the bar. I've never actually been up, but there are always people hanging out. Zombie Bob's is their resident food truck now and what doesn't go better with beer than pizza?? You can order and pay at the same register where you get your beers so it's super convenient and reasonably priced. They will give you a number and bring it right out to your table when it's ready. Slices are huge! If you have a group, I would suggest getting the whole pie to share instead of ordering individually. There is always something going on here, too. Trivia, live music, Yoga, BINGO. You name it. There's even axe throwing at times. My only issue with this place is that it can be hard to hear sometimes. There are really high ceilings so the acoustics get a little muffled. This is really a perfect place for a group to meet up for happy hour and some food. There is also an outside patio, so you can bring Fido if ya want! Oh yeah, I can't forget, the red (Tides of Galway Irish Red Ale) is my favorite beer these days. Try it, you'll like it! The Andale has always been a unique one that I like even though I'm not a huge fan of jalapenos. I usually only drink one because the taste is pretty strong, but it's definitely worth trying out IMO. We had such a great experience here. We came with a family of 6 and they sat us right away. All of the tables were very well distanced. The young lady was the only server working and the place was full. I don't think they expected such a huge turnout. We ordered beer and food. My dad ordered the calzone and the thing was bigger then his head. It was delicious and so so huge. I had the Buffalo pizza and man of man, I haven't found a Buffalo pizza that good in a long time. I absolutely love Frothy Beard. They have different events each month for their customers, and trivia night is my favorite (usually Thursday nights). I pray they do another Disney or Harry Potter night. *wink wink. The food is amazing and the NY slice of pizza is my favorite. It's huge and worth every penny. Now the best part about this spot is the drinks. The 9 3/4 Harry Potter inspired beer is my go to drink. They also have a full bar, so if you're not a beer person you can always get a mixed drink. I almost forgot they have video games setup around the brewery, & a lot of TV inspired decor. Its a game within itself to spot all of the different items around the bar, so if you and your dinner party need something fun to do while you wait my family's favorite is I-spy. So we did a mini self-guided Chucktown brewery tour/crawl...13 breweries in 3 days. Charles Towne Fermentory on the west side of the city was my favorite if you were wondering at all, but that's likely because they're geared toward what I like (New England style unfiltered murky IPA's). Frothy Beard showed well for me and I will definitely revisit them in person. My take: They have good beer. Solid. Drinkable. Enjoyable. Fun atmosphere with various kinds of seating including leather couches and even a separate lounge room with pool table. They also have a cool upstairs balcony that overlooks everything. Beertender offers free samples (we liked their Mermaids Milk coconut stout at 7 percent ABV and also the Sip Sip Pass IPA at around the same). Taps are running about 20 beers and seating for about 10 plus at the bar. Unfortunately I found their bar stools to be a bit uncomfortable for me, but that's no worry as they have lots of other seating options. Tons of money sunk into this shared brewery/pizzeria space (Zombie Bob's pizza). The interior has two levels and a separate lounge (see my pics) and it doesn't have a low budget feel at all. Cool thing is, it doesn't have a yuppie pretention feeling about it either. It's just a really comfy spot to drink beers and eat pizza, period. It seems like the kind of place that EVERYONE would feel comfortable hanging out in. Serious bonus...they run a happy hour and discount all pints by 1 dollar and 2 bucks off bread/cheeseticks. Normal pint pricing is about 5 to 6 bucks, but if you want take home crowlers or growlers, look out, no volume discounts there...look to still pay a good 5/6 bucks per 16 oz from a crowler/growler. Big parking lot so parking won't be an issue for you and their air conditioning will certainly keep you cool. WiFi signal is weak in various spots inside, but they do have a couple of old gaming systems set up with Angry Birds and Mario Brothers to play. Star Wars decorations here and there, which I love. I feel like the owner must definitely be from my generation. Tons of merch for sale, including some 15 dollar hats, which is cheap compared to most breweries I visited in the Chucktown area. All in all, for straight vibe and overall positive hang out sessioning, Frothy Beard was my favorite in all of Charleston out of the 13 I visited. Based on beer alone, it was probably my 3rd or 4th favorite, but certainly nothing to sneer at or criticize. read more

Love the beer here. There's something for everyone! And the atmosphere is friendly, especially to doggos. Gotta love that. Love the artwork and creativity. It's refreshing to see a brewery that has creative beer names for more than just their IPAs! And Zombie Bob's is always a hit for me. Sometimes it can take a while to make the things that need more cook time, especially when they're busy, so plan accordingly for that. A couple years ago I visited Frothy Beard on a visit to town and thought it was fantastic. So, upon returning to Charleston for another visit with a friend, it was our first stop. I'm glad my beer/food tastes have stayed the same. We both ordered flights and a pizza and thoroughly enjoyed it all. They have great ambiance, lots of tvs for sports viewing pleasure, and a good food menu. If the weather is nice, there is ample outdoor seating in addition to tons of indoor tables. I went here this evening to the Not Scholastic Boozy Book Fair. I've been wanting to attend one of these events for a while now and finally had the opportunity to do so! We also decided to eat dinner here as well. The fam and I had pretzel bites. They were tasty and very fresh. I loved the beerminto cheese dipping sauce! My husband and I had their smash burger and it was messy and yummy (a messy burger is usually a GOOD burger). The fries were perfectly cooked and flavorful. My daughter got a Monster slice. She is 9 and couldn't finish it. It was a very big slice! We all left full and happy. My husband enjoyed his beer and I enjoyed my hard cider. The book fair portion was fun too. Was on the lookout for a brewery that was family friendly and served food to celebrate an early Father's Day. Stumbled across Frothy Beard which had all I was looking for, had never heard of it, figured meh - why not. Super fun decor, friendly host who turned out to be our waiter (wish I knew his name bc major accolades for being awesome and interacting with all of us- my 9 month included). Pizza was amazing, my husband said his burger was great. We tried a flight (per our usual brewery visit) and enjoyed them all to the extent of bringing 3 of the 4 home in 6 pack versions as well as some stickers and wall hangings. Seriously fun place. Food was great! Probably top 5 for pizza in Charleston. Drinks were good. I will probably stick to just buying the beer at the grocery store though. The service wasn't bad. It was weird. There were those who knew their stuff and then there is the waitress that chugs the rest of your beer behind the bar. Your 16oz pour from a can doesn't all fit into the glass so instead of giving you the can which is still a 1/4 full you now know where it goes. I just kinda feel duped.
