Damn, I'm not sure whether the pizza or the beer is better. The options of beer are pretty vast, several of each different style, and each one I tasted has been delish. I am not sure if I ever had Frothy Beard beer before, but I am so glad I tried it this past week. I will now be on the lookout for it any time I go somewhere. I've been a fan of Zombie Bob's since they were a measly lil' ole' food truck parked outside the Recovery Room downtown. I was over the moon to see they are now a stand alone location (but still have a food truck) associated with the brewery. The pizza is still bomb, and they still have giant slices. Order a pre-made something or create your own. I've been to the Frothy Beard facility once - two days ago. I took my boyfriend here as we were looking for a place to grab lunch before heading to the nearby Charles Towne Landing for a walk. When we walked in, we were both so excited to see the interior. It is right up our alley with the cartoons, video games, TV references and puns. I could see myself hanging out here a lot during non-pandemic times. read more

This was a fun brewery to visit. We came here while on vacation. They have a cool little outdoor patio. I love that they are dog friendly. I was very glad that the Yelp app led me to this really cool local brewery; they have a nice variety of local brews on tap, and many of the beers are excellent! There's good seating available both outdoors and inside, they also have events like trivia night and bingo available throughout the week; the music they play really works for me too :-) To go with your brew, I suggest one of the Ginormous slices of Zombie Bob's pizza; Zombie Bob's shares the space with FBB. The beer crust they make is excellent, the sauce has a nice kick to it, and the slices are big enough to compete with personal size pizzas you might find elsewhere. The crust has a nice enough firmness to it that it won't flop around when you pick it up, which is I think is always a good thing - it makes sharing easier :-) Tip: Not only can you get great pizza and beer here, they also have some old-school video games inside that are free to play! Free is my favorite price, and the fact that these games are all circa the 1990s makes them pretty cool. read more

There's a small part of me that misses the gritty garage vibe of the original Frothy Beard, but then that quickly goes away when you see what an amazing job they've done with this facility. Yes I know, breweries are all the rage and there's another one popping up as we speak. Most of this is due to legislation making it easier for breweries to become profitable. As this legislation sways more in favor of the breweries, we're seeing an evolution in the type of brewery Charleston can now accommodate and Frothy is at the forefront of that change. Back in the day, our local beer was made at a brewery, packaged or kegged, and sent out to bars and stores for consumption. Nobody was consuming the beer at the brewery. Then we got tasting rooms. Every new brewery was building a tasting room and if you didn't have one already, you were adding a tasting room. Breweries were now becoming places to hang out. Maybe grab a beer for happy hour or go to a networking event. Generally, it's a place to escape to for a couple hours and sample some great beers. Maybe see a local musician perform or grub on the latest food truck offerings. This was a huge improvement and I personally enjoy going to breweries for that exact experience. Now I feel like we're moving into stage three where the breweries are becoming more of a destination and ingrained deeper into the culinary scene of the city. Asheville is the perfect example of a city that has this culture around their breweries. Now that the laws are allowing for food to be served, Frothy Beard now has Zombie Bobs Pizza as a permanent resident of the brewery. They have their own window inside, but you can also order your pizza and beer right at the bar, giving the place more of a brewpub feel. This new West Ashley location is also huge and very inviting for large groups or small. Frothy Beard is no longer a hot garage with a tap system, it's a gathering place for locals and tourists alike. A place where you can still geek out about new brews at the bar or take a tour to learn about the latest hops. But now, you can also grab lunch, have a meeting, or make a dinner plan for a friends birthday. It's not one of those happy hour spots only open from 4-7:30 on Thursday, Friday, and every other Wednesday. Frothy Beard is a brewery you can go to day or night! It's a concept that is lacking in the Lowcountry and I'm happy to see Frothy Beard taking the steps to move the brewery culture forward here. By the way, they have amazing beer too! read more

This is a great unique brewery to hang out at. We stopped by when visiting our friends who live near by in Charleston. My husband enjoyed his IPA and I enjoyed the grapefruit cider they had on tap. They have consoles you can play at and board games to play as well. They have a pizza window too that we didn't get to try, but it sounded good. I want to love Frothy. I really do. They have some really fun, creative events (check their Facebook to see what's next), and a run club that meets every Monday night for a one or three mile run (you pick which route you want to do) around the neighborhood, with the kindest people you'll ever meet. But Frothy falls... flat... for me every time I go. I prefer lighter style beers. They have a few on tap, but even their lighter beers seem really heavy to me. They have a bunch of IPAs and heavier options, so if that's what you're into, Frothy might be just right for you. I know a lot of people who swear by this place, so I think it's more of a personal preference. The parking situation is great there since it's located in a strip with other businesses in a massive parking lot, and I love seeing a brewery in West Ashley. read more

Walking in, I felt like I was in an industrial park (which, really, I was) -- but once in the door I felt like I was a members of the Night's Watch, with house sigils all over the place and a wooden loft above the bar that looks like it may have been built for the GoT set. I love the artistic feel to this brewery. They have posters and paintings of their beer labels all over the place which gives it a fun feeling. Big tables encourage socialization and the attached pizza place gives you an outlet for your hunger. I walked down what I thought was the hallway to the restroom and found a mini art gallery instead. Oh, and the beer was good. I'd like a little less hop and a little more tart but our flight was good. Word to the wise: when you write down the tastes for your flight, notice which side of the paper has the handle on it. Having just visited a neighboring brewery (starts with a W) I was LOVING the sour revolution that has wedged its way into the hop lands of IPA's that tend to inundate newer breweries. I've kinda been there, done that" with wheat beers and not a fan of saisons, so I was feeling out of luck when I learned they had zero sours on tap the night we were there. The bar keep hated seeing me pint less, so she kept questioning me and having me try this and that. And what do you know? Her persistence paid off and I did find a suitable match in their Grissett. I loved the artwork and the bathroom doors pictured are a good example of all the art throughout the building. We didn't stay long, we had another stop on our self-made brew tour. It was comfortable enough, but the "kid" factor is definitely up a notch at this place. We were there around dinner time, and with some really awesome looking pizzas (made by a Zombie??) paired with excellent tap selections - I'd make it my Saturday night destination with my kids in tow too. There was even a retro video game wall for bigger kids and small gated area for wee ones. I imagine in the summer the large outdoor area might allow dogs too. I reviewed the "Zombie Bob's Pizza" portion of the brewery/restaurant, and I specifically left out any mention of the beers themselves because I wanted to review them on the brewery's Yelp Page. I really really like the quality of the beers they offer at Frothy Beard Brewery! There are glass windows at the bar that allow you to see into the brewery. I'm hoping they offer tours because I'd be interested in how the mechanics of a brewery works! The bartenders (especially Charles) are super friendly and helpful! I'm a hoppy/IPA type girl, although I do like an occasional stout or wheat beer (or any kind of beer! Haha!) I've tried all the IPAs Frothy Beard has to offer and I really liked the "Bustin' Makes Me Feel Good" and the "Make A Way." And the "Sip Sip Pass." I guess I like them all! The "Busin'" has a roasted marshmallow on top and is a bit of a sweet IPA (called a milkshake IPA), but I really enjoyed it! The "Make A Way" has a delicious woodsy flavor from the spices used in brewing and it's one you should absolutely try! I also tried the Mermaid's Milk stout and it was amazing! Again, I'm only a once-in-a-while stout drinker, but I will definitely keep this on my To Drink Again List! read more

I'll start this review off by admitting that I am not a beer person and do not know a whole lot about the brewery scene in town, but this place was enjoyable even for someone like me who isn't very knowledgeable about it. The interior was really neat - there were Star Wars figurines hung from the ceiling as well as some artwork with their bearded cartoon man logo. There was also an upstairs area with cool windows looking into the inside brewing area and also with a nice view out above the bar. The beer selection was very interesting and there were definitely listed flavors and ingredients that I had not seen in any beers before. Like jalapeño and dill etc. I got their ginger pale ale which I did enjoy, though I did wish it tasted more gingery. But again, I'm not really a beer person so take my flavor opinions with quite a few grains of salt. As a place to meet up with friends it was excellent. Large tables accommodated my six person group very well, and we all had a good time there talking and catching up. There was ample seating and a lot of space to move around as well. I'd definitely recommend this place for other people who are into the beer scene and are visiting Charleston. read more

Just got back from their game of thrones watch party! Wish there was subtitles and all tv were linked but we got to see it so that's what mattered! I would 100% try their Monster slice !! Stopped by the FBB for some Zombie pizza with the family last night. Pizza is served inside, and not out by the truck. Phew! A live band was getting set up and we were entertained by their tunes later on in the evening. We sat in the back room, which I heard is fairly new. There is a shuffleboard table and some video games, as well as a ton of board games and comfortable seating if you're not into barstools. For the shuffleboard table, you have to get the pucks from the bar and need to leave your ID. If you don't brink back all 8 pucks, you don't get your ID back. The artwork on the wall in this back room is amazing, and I wish that I could paint my living room this way, but I don't think that my wife will allow me to. I LOVE FROTHY BEARD. I've been to all of the other breweries in Charleston, so I was so excited to try this new brewery when it opened. Let me say, of all of them, this is my new favorite. It's basically a brewery in a garage. You could have the whole "brewery tour" by standing in the middle of the room and doing a slow spin, but it's so cool! I love that they kind of Macgyver'd all of their equipment themselves instead of investing in fancy expensive stuff. Eric gave us an awesome tour and was hilarious and informative. They took the time to learn everyone's names and talked to us by name the entire time we were there. The beer (I'm not a beer snob, so excuse me if I don't use all the correct terminology): Peppermint Porter- Ok, I know the idea of this is scary. I was thinking it was going to taste like having a sip of Guinness with a mint in your mouth, but let me tell you it was amazing and unlike anything I've ever had before. So light and refreshing, with only the hint of sweet mintyness at the very end. I think this might be my new favorite beer of all time. OF ALL TIME. Smokey the Ambear- Is there bacon in this? That was the first though I had when I tried it. Very different, but really good. Had a nice smokiness to it without tasting fake (I'm looking at you Rogue Voodoo). Never Winter Wheat- This one was good. It wasn't my favorite, but it was good. Really excited for the possibility of a watermelon wheat beer at the end of the summer (at least I think this is the one they're going to do watermelon with. My bad if I screwed that up). Photuris Pale- This was good! If you like pale ales, you'll probably like this one Tides of Galways Irish Red- Loved this one. I really like red beers, but this one was really different (in a good way). I could totally sip on this one. All in all, you can't beat the service that they gave you. The beer here is very flavor forward, and I don't mean your typical "beer flavors". I think that's why it wasn't my cup of tea... I mean my "glass of beer". When I drink beer, I drink it because I like the taste of beer; I don't want it to be masked or covered up by fruit, spice or other components. It was interesting to taste all the flavor forward combinations, and they make the spiciest habanero beer I've ever had, but I honestly wouldn't [and didn't] drink a full pint of anything I tasted. The bartender told us the taps change frequently, and unfortunately they didn't have any IPA's on tap during our visit, I'd been dying to try their Albatross IPA. I'll be on the lookout for their beers at the bars, but I don't think I'll return to the brewery until I have something that really tingles my tastebuds. The brewery itself is located in an industrial area, it's a small brewery and easy to drive past (look for the mailbox!). You'll walk up to the garage door and enter the one room brewery. A small bar with maybe ten seats and three long community tables comprise the space with all the brewing equipment. They were also serving up ramen on our visit, a nice idea, but pop-up ramen shop doesn't sound like a good idea with all the raw, exposed components in a non-air conditioned setting (plus the large dog in the "kitchen" area). Overall, I've definitely had better beer but the location feels very local. read more

My husband and I LOVE Frothy: we make it a weekly stop in our quest for good beer. They have an endless and ever-changing selection of interesting beer and great pizza. Since COVID, they have taken their role in not spreading the virus very seriously, and are now one of the few places that really feel "safe". Although we loved hanging out at the bar with other regulars, for now we're happy just to have a place to go where we can drink our favorite beers. The barstools will be back eventually, but in the meantime, there's Tangolorian, SipSip, Andale, Murphy's Big Head and so many more. read more
