What a gem this place is. I didn't even know it was there. We drove by, I saw it and opted to stop in. It's very colorful and hard to miss. It's wonderfully clean and well organized. The parking was simple and right next to the building. The staff was exceptionally nice and seated us immediately. The food was hot, fresh and wonderfully made. It came out within ten minutes. Tacos asada are good value but lacking in flavor. The beef was stir-fried, not grilled, so it didn't taste like authentic asada. Mild, medium, and hot salsa was included and they're all tasty. I got a side order of French fries, very generous portion. Really enjoyed the grilled pepper. read more

My wife loved her Pollo Sopes, but could only eat two. (We brought the 3rd home.). My Carne Asada Plate was huge; with 2 large pieces of steak, big tortillas, beans, rice, pico, and guacamole! Yumm! They have good breakfast plates, although there are cheaper optiins in this area. But they excel on dinner; the supper entrees are filling & tasty - at good prices. We went to the Aurora location to celebrate my daughter's new house right nearby. I was really hoping they'd have killer, authentic Mexican food. We got a mixed bag. HIGHLIGHT: The mole was amazing! I got it on top of an enchilada but I think it would be great on their chicken. The typical Mexican starter of tortilla chips and salsa was not so great. The chips were thin and tasted like they were from a bag (probably were) and were a bit too salty. The salsa was very thin and had no character. The flank\skirt steak was fine. I could see ordering that again. It did seem a little salty, though. I got the soft chile relleno which wasn't bad but the chile seemed a bit small and there wasn't a whole lot of taste with a bland cheese inside. The egg outer covering was actually good. The thing that was the most disappointing was the rice. It was terrible. My wife said it looked and tasted like Uncle Ben's. At lot of other Mexican restaurants serve a much more superb rice. Coming from a Mexican, this is really good Mexican food. Boss Lady and I stopped in because it was close, and we were hungry. I'm glad we did! The food, people, and ambiance are authentic. We ordered some type of quesadilla and pastor tacos, and both were very delicious! I asked for some non-gringo salas, and they brought us 3 deliciously spicy salsas. Omg the ridiculously giant breakfast burritos. They're massive. All I've ever had at this Fritangas and the one in Aurora are the breakfast burritos, but that's because they're awesome. You can also ask for the Chile on the inside if you're doing to go. read more

I've only eaten breakfast here, and always had prompt service, good coffee, and excellent food. I notice a waiting list for dinner, so apparently the dinner crowd also enjoys Fritangas. Just came in for the first time. Purchased 2 breakfast burritos and a orange juice Togo. The total was 10.80 and I have a 20. Alex gave me 9 dollars back when my change should have been 9.20 - I gave a dollar tip after that. I suspect the food will be good. It's just annoying to not get the correct change. Fritangas I like your food overall, but the rice is just weird, can't you just make some Spanish rice without all those wilted frozen veggies. The agua fresca wasn't very good last time either. It was cantaloupe, and it was watery. We also had mole enchiladas and tacos., both good. Then I ordered chile cheese fries. These were undercooked, and utterly sad. I will never order these again. Chile was lackluster as well. They have many choices on the menu, and some are better than others. The desert looks amazing, and I must give it a try eventually. I have eaten at Fritangas for years and it's one of my favorite restaurants. It's very authentic, nothing trendy, just great food! The breakfast is great. Try the Enfrijolada's! Enchiladas made from Mexican eggs and topped with a sauce made from refried beans. It's very different but taste's great. The bacon is always perfect and lunch is as good as the breakfast. It may not look special on the outside, but it's very much like a diner -- comfort food, a variety of options, home-style cooking! I ordered the Pechuga al Fritangas and my partner had a Barbacoa Torta. The portions are HUGE and very generous for the prices depending on what you get. The breading on the chicken was cooked perfectly, not overdone, and light on the frying. It came with plaintains, rice, lettuce, avocado, refried beans, and tortillas. I sliced the chicken and added the sides to make tacos and it was delicious. Veggies were fresh, and it felt like I could keep going until my plate was clean even though I was pretty full. The servers were very kind and the food came out quickly. Their drink sizes are also very large. Overall a great experience! read more

I'm going to start a new taco review scale where one star is equal to the tacos at Benny's and 5 stars is equal to my current favorite. For the purpose of this review my favorite is Los Carboncitos. And so, Fritangas falls squarely in the middle of these two. Here's how it all went down... Last weekend I was looking at cars and we were driving down Alameda when Sir Nicholas' stomach gave a frightful growl. Or perhaps he just mentioned he'd like to eat soon. This part of the story is hazy. Anyway I used the trusty iPhone Yelp app to determine we were mere minutes away from Fritangas. (Doesn't saying this name make you want to do some sort of chant and/or dance along with having dramatic music playing in the background? Kind of like if I said "Fritangas" I would expect a chorus of hushed voices repeating it behind me with some sort of bongo drum beat or something.) So, we pass it and it's bright yellow with tons of pictures of Mexican food plates all over the building. These are good signs and we agree to stop. The restaurant is fairly small, clean, bright and generally awesome. The people working there are friendly. Some of them will speak to you in English and some won't, but you're covered either way and they don't scorn school-girl Spanish if you know so and want to practice using it. I ordered an Orange Fanta. Duh. And a taco plate. This has now become my tasting dish for Mexican restaurants as mentioned above. Generally I get pastor or asada or a combination to keep the comparisons comparable. I went with asada here and I was pretty disappointed. There wasn't any of that hidden spice and flavor. The meat wasn't tender and/or juicy. The guacamole was... runny? But, neither did it taste too bad. It just tasted like meat that was cooked a teensy bit too long. I also feel I should mention that they don't serve their tacos on 2 small corm tortillas like I've come to expect. They give you a slightly larger, single corn tortilla. They also serve the plate with rice and beans which isn't standard in many of the other places I've visited here in Denver. So, I wasn't sorry I went and tried it. But, I don't I'll be making a return visit any time in the near future. The end. read more

My boyfriend and I almost always hit this place at breakfast, so I can't really speak much for the lunch/dinner food - though, the few times we have had non-breakfast items, it was pretty tasty. But, breakfast here is where it's at. First, let's get a few things out of the way. This is, in no way, healthy food. Like, we ate there this morning and were tired for the rest of the day. But, when you see things like cheese and chorizo on the menu, you should kind of expect this. I had the Denver Omelette this morning, which was fab. Despite the fact that it was loaded with chorizo, it wasn't greasy. They claim to have the best green chile in town, which I've found is a very, very popular claim among Denver restaurants. I'm not going to say they have /the/ best, since I haven't tried every other place that claims to have the best, but their green chile is fantastic. Like, amazingly so. My omelette came with a decent sized bowl of it, and I smothered my plate. It's nicely spicy, but not ridiculously so. One of the best things about this place is the value. The breakfasts I tend to go for here are right around $5.50 or so, and they give you a ton of food. Like someone else mentioned in their revue, the place is always slammed full of Mexican diners, and that always signals good things for me, much like when I head out to get Pho and find a place slammed with Vietnamese diners. And, the place is small and slightly cramped, but somehow the noise level stays down. The service is always good and friendly, which is important. New staff is clueless!!! You have to repeat yourself to them more than 5 times because they just don't get what your saying and they still get it wrong! Then they take forever to give you your order. I waited inside the restaurant for my order and I saw when they bagged my order and let it sit there for 10+minutes before I got up to ask if my order was ready. She said almost and I had to wait another 5 minutes and then got the bags I saw waiting and told me they were ready. After they sat there for 15+ minutes!! To top it off the food was all burnt! Had a great group meal here, and the service was excellent. They have a broad menu and from what I heard from the table, everything was great. The huracaches were a hit, so were the tortas and gorditas. The shrimp were well prepared and the carne asada in big portions. I was pleasantly surprised by the pollo mole enchiladas, the mole was flavorful and a bit spicy, which I enjoyed. I absolutely LOVE this place. It is so good. When you eat, you can tell that they made it then and there. I ordered a buffalo burger with fries, and I wanted to order a second one but it's so big! Fritangas is working hard for your business with reduced prices for breakfast specials (their pancakes weren't so great, but the bacon, eggs, and potatoes are tasty and a steal for $2.99), lunch deals, and new menu items like -- sandwiches? Yes, gringo sandwiches, and boy, are they good. The club sandwich is excellent, but today I spotted the turkey sandwich topped with bacon, avocado, cheese, lettuce, and tomato all on huge slices of lightly buttered, toasty grilled bread. Wow. It was enough for two people. I barely made a dent in the heap of fries with it, and I took half the sandwich home. All this for $6.50. Give 'em a try. It's not usually crowded, yet they do have some really good stuff. Huaraches, tortas, cocktel de camarones, lots of authentic stuff, and also Americanized Mexican food for those who like crispy tacos, ground beef, and so on. If you ever have room for dessert, my son says the stuffed churros are fantastic. read more
