Big Boy Combo
Jimmy K.

We stopped here for lunch recently and it was good. The big boy burger and chicken sandwich were tasty. My daughter enjoyed her breakfast for lunch. The chocolate shake was tasty. Service was good. I feel like the employees were angry with each other. Worth checking out as it is a great value for your money.

What a great touch!

I was a little hesitant when I saw how busy it was, but Betty Jo greeted me immediately despite that. I was seated in a comfortable booth. She took my drink order (vanilla Coke) and left me with the menu to peruse. When she returned with my drink, she asked my name. That's such a nice touch and something that rarely happens anymore. She has called me Kirk every time she's swung by the table. She also made sure that my order was absolutely correct. This is not her first day, you can tell. (Actually, she informed me she's been doing this for 13 years. She's definitely a pro.) I told her I might be interested in dessert; she brought me the check with the caveat that she could add dessert anytime. But my favorite touch is that attached to the bill is a post-it note that says "Shine Your Light." The food was good and hot. The vanilla Coke remains one of the best beverage options anywhere in the city. But when I come back, it'll be for the exceptional service. Betty Jo is a treasure.

Big Boy!

Excellent service by Betty Jo! We were seated promptly, and she was very kind. She seemed to have a lot of tables, but she was hustling! She made sure our drinks were refilled, and she left a kind note on our receipt. The food was also very good. The pancakes were very buttery and well-sized. I ordered the three stack but probably only needed two. My dad got the Big Boy Meal and throughly enjoyed it. Nice place and good atmosphere. Would definitely come again.

The food is always good. The service is either great or mediocre. Best vanilla Pepsi in town!

The portions for even a tasting menu were extremely small. My entee (salmon) came out not hot. Our server was not attentive (never once refilled our water glasses or asked if we enjoyed any of our dishes). Overall we were left with the question of: what is all the fuss about with this restaurant? We will not be back.

What's striking about the restaurant itself is how quiet and calm it feels. With limited nightly seatings and every dinner table doing the tasting menu there's a sort of orchestrated flow that permeates the space. Not to say energy is low or it's so quiet you feel self-conscious talking; it's just that nothing about the experience feels rushed or accidental. As expected, the bread course was phenomenal as was all the food we enjoyed! We opted for the wine pairing along with dinner, which results in about 1.5 or 2 full glasses over the course of the meal. The sommelier did an excellent job introducing and explaining each wine, as well as why it was selected to pair with each course. All told, a lovely experience and one worth repeating--and not just because the menu changes every season.

The Goetta is a regional dish popular to the area comprised of sausage and potato fried like a smash burger. It was packed full of flavor and was nice and crispy. A must get was the biscuit and gravy. Unlike the southern style which is usually thick and creamy, this has amazing seasoning, plenty of the sausage crumble, and rich texture. The biscuit underneath was soft and savory and paired very well in this dish. The filet and eggs were perfectly cooked and had good flavor. There were a lot of diced potatoes on the plate to enjoy which was also well seasoned and crispy. Lastly the big easy omelette was very good. I do like the fact it was plated on top of a piece of toast. The biscuit and gravy along with the omelette gave a very strong New Orleans feeling. The cocktails also hit their mark. Local distillery Riff was the maker of the bourbon for the mule. I'm not sure of their lineup but it compared to Bulleit Bourbon. Very stable in the cocktail without being overpowering. The hard truth was a coffee with a punch and a great way to start a vacation morning. The restaurant was deceptively large from its outward appearance. There is lots of seating available and the tables moved swiftly. The large garage style doors allowed for full fresh air circulation and opens the brightness from the natural lighting. Being a corner location they were able to maximize on the opened interior dining experience. Overall 4.7 out of 5

We're eager…read moreto find a top-tier burger place in the area, though unfortunately this fell a little short of our expectations. Decided to split the Silver Charm for an appetizer, and it came about ten minutes later. The onion rings were decent, good flavor and somewhat crispy. The accompanying sauces of barbecue and ranch were both good as well, though both were missing something to elevate them a bit more I think. The flavor was good, but quite a small portion for $10. My wife ordered the Strike the Gold Burger and I went for the Northern Dancer Crispy Chicken. The sandwiches came out about ten minutes after we finished the Silver Charm, which was perfect timing. She liked her burger pretty well, and I took a bite too. The "caramelized onions" were definitely more sauteed, with still a bit of crunch, and otherwise I could really only taste the barbecue sauce, which was tasty, but I would have liked some more varied flavors. My chicken sandwich was... a bit disappointing. Rather than a chicken piece that appropriately fit the bun, it was more of a chicken strip, with bites that would only yield bun. In addition, because the chicken piece was so small, it was also extremely dry, which is a bummer because I actually thought the breading was very tasty. The chipotle aioli was decent, but didn't pack as much spice or flavor as I was hoping. And with only two toppings and a sauce on the whole sandwich, I was disappointed that the tomato was rather mushy and didn't seem fresh. I will say the fries that came with our sandwiches were crisp and well seasoned, and somewhat unfortunately the best part of my meal. Based on our experience, I didn't hate our dinner here and if someone invited me to meet them here, I wouldn't say no, but I'm also not going out of my way to revisit.

The space is open, bright and well decorated making it very inviting for brunch. You order at the counter from the menus placed along the wall then food is delivered to your table. The various brunch items all sounded very inviting so I was having trouble deciding what to order. So I got a recommendation to try the Shakshuka. Not sure how to pronounce it but when it arrived it was just the right portion and quite tasty for brunch. It's a bowl with a red pepper sauce and feta cheese and kale along with eggs sunny side up. The dish is served with pita so you can do a little bit of dipping in the tasty sauce. To accompany our food we selected the mimosa service and bloody mary pitcher. A pitcher is just perfect for sharing. And the mimosa service was delightful. The server arrived with a bottle of Prosecco and small carafes of orange, grapefruit and blood orange juices to mix yourself. The food was fresh and tasty with prompt delivery of our food to our table. Not quite a full service restaurant since you have to order at the counter but still a nice experience located downtown.

The place is small and had a very weird vibe between fine dining and kitschy. White tablecloths, but then lots of purple and pictures of roosters everywhere (I realize the name, but hmmm). Our server was lovely but would disappear for too long between times when she should have been present. We ordered our drinks at 745pm, and I watched them sit at the end of the bar. Finally, at 805pm, I went to the bartender and said, "those are our drinks that have been sitting there for a while". Our server brought them over like we ordered them 5 minutes prior. But the lovely owner/manager came over and said the "drinks are on me" because we waited so long. We appreciated that! The fried chicken was good, but the breading was very salty. The green beans were almost inedible because they were so salty. The mashed potatoes were average. The biscuits were fantastic. The fried deviled eggs were okay. A regular deviled egg is better. The shrimp and grits had a lot going on. The shrimp was lightly battered and fried (?) and the flavor of the dish was bold. I think sauteed shrimp and a little less gravy would make it perfect.
