We had lunch here the other day while in the area and it was OK. It's not fancy food but it was filling and tasted pretty good. My husband had the Filet of Sole meal with the sides of mashed potatoes & gravy and a side salad. I had the Clermont Biscuit Breakfast with an added egg. Everything tasted fresh. My eggs were cooked just how I asked. But my hash browns were undercooked and not very appetizing. My husband's fish was really good. He liked it and I thought it had a good flavor and was fried perfectly. The side salad was large. The potatoes and gravy on my husband's plate weren't very good though. In all the years I've lived in Batavia, I've never been here. Maybe it was the name, location? I don't know. But clearly I've been sleeping on this place. The menu is super overwhelming. And does make you wonder how they could possibly serve such a wide variety of food "freshly made". We decided to stick to that day's special. Boy am I glad I did. Came in on a Saturday morning and was excited to try the breakfast specials. I ordered an eggs Benedict and my partner ordered the breakfast sandwich with goetta. He requested no Chipotle ranch and I asked for my eggs poached easy. The server said to us "the food comes out as it comes out". And was she right, the sandwich had Chipotle ranch and my Benedict not only came out poached hard but with tomatoes and green onions, which were not listed on the description. Neither meal was edible and she never came back to check on us except to drop the check. We had been so excited to eat at this establishment. We had heard wonderful reviews and the opportunity finally presented itself. Our food was mediocre at best. It looked great, the servings were a generous portion. However, no one enjoyed or finished their meal, 4 of us. My mother is not one to say much, which in turn will keep me quiet. It was a Sunday and busy. Our server was less than attentive and we sat with empty drinks for the majority of dinner. We were asked at the end how everything was. When I told her, we sadly, didn't enjoy anything. She was just sorry to hear that and hoped we'd be back. Why? What exactly would allow us to give this spot a second chance? I have been going to this place since a kid after softball games - I am now 28 and only get to go here when I make it out that way. However I love seeing a family business' still in business' when it is in a out in the middle of nowhere type of area! This is perfect diner food and they also serve Empress chili I think! I personally love the heartstopper fries, and the open faced turkey! My grandparents like the fact you can go there and get liver and onions. They have daily specials and big portions with inexpensive prices if you are in the area I definitely suggest checking them out since I know go out of my way when I am wanting their open faced turkey . . So we attempted to get breakfast this morning at Mama's Grill. Normally we have a great experience and have eaten there many times, it was even our favorite while I was pregnant. After today NEVER AGAIN. Our food makes it to the table and the waitress unloads the tray only on one side so the whole thing FLIPS. ON MY TWO YEAR OLD. HOT GRAVY. They literally had to bring us a wet towel to wipe him off so I could inspect for an burns or cuts from the plates that shattered by his legs. And now he's too terrified to want to eat anything. Gravy went all over MIL's brand new suede boots and all over husband's expensive sneakers he got for his birthday. I'm aggravated now, then notice no salt, pepper, or ketchup that we asked for. Go up to ask "I'm sitting right there, but you guys just dropped hot gravy all over my kid and scared him so bad that he doesn't want to eat and we still need salt, pepper, and ketchup." To be told to stop and that it was an accident. I'm sorry, it's common sense and *G*R*A*V*I*T*Y* that tells you to not unload a tray on only one side first. But to top it off, the woman that brought the salt, pepper, and ketchup to our table decided it would be appropriate to slam them down on our table and tell us we needed to chill out. IM SORRY. WHAT. WANNA TRY THAT AGAIN We start to eat, everything is cold and my MIL found hair in our food (and seeing as we are purple, red, and blonde- brown/black doesn't match us) We get the manager over and his response? "What would you like us to do?" Not an "I'm sorry", or "here's what I'm gonna do for you" We explained all of the above and said "honestly at this point I'm just ready to leave, I'm just over all of this. This has been ridiculous." Swung by Mama's Grill tonight. Hadn't been there in a while, as it's further east on Route 32 than I typically traverse. Good spot to get roughly half your kicks, especially during a winter storm. It was actually my second time there during such inclement conditions and they were open for business both times. Nice track record, as far as dependability and adhering to the hours of operation goes. The place has nothing to do with Vicki Lawrence's teeth, so if that's what you were expecting going in, prepare to be let down. If a better than what you'd expect to score at a diner meal is what you're after, you could do much worse. The menu is laminated, extensive and not illustrated. So, no "this looks tasty". You're going to have to break out the old imagination skills; good practice for we, the too cool for Sesame Street crowd. Despite only being here a half dozen times to date, I've already managed to find my go-to selection. It's the N.Y. strip sandwich. Ok, maybe that screeching sound is my imagination skills slamming on their brakes. Don't hate. You'd be surprised how difficult it is to find a decent steak (read my lips: steak, not cheesesteak) sandwich on the starboard side of town. At $8.99 including crinkle cut fries, Mama shalt not disappointeth. I've never used the word succulent to describe a sandwich, yet I brandish it this evening as my adjective of choice. Salisbury aftertaste. You also get a complimentary loaf of warm bread, with cinnamon butter. Like I mentioned earlier, the menu is plentiful. Breakfast, lunch, dinner ... maybe even a few secret meals to which we storm travelers are not privy. As a relatively no frills breed of night owl, my only two gripes with Mama G.: a.)
