My second visit ... a 4-star experience…read more I sat in the dining room this visit - restrained rural chic. Good job. It is all hard surfaces and the music was a tad too loud (reduced upon request) and the two young infants were busy being infants ... cranky/noisy. Jayla was our server. Prompt and appropriately engaging and attentive. Unlike the prior visit, the chili was sufficiently warm when served and the spice level has improved, kind'a, sort'a like Wendy's spice level, but more flavorful - that is intended as a compliment. My buddy ordered the Italian sandwich w/roasted vegetables. The sandwich struck me as small-ish. The portion of roasted vegetables was generous. He liked both. The only disappointment this visit ... the hamburger bun utterly disintegrated after the third bite. They are proud that everything is scratch-made in house ... but this bun was a fail. I finished my burger w/fork and knife. When cashing out, the manager apologized and admitted that they had not sufficiently proofed the dough. Um; okay, so why serve a known problem? Minus 1-star. First visit: Yelp says that 3-stars is Okay. This was a 2.5-star experience that I am forgiving and rounding up to 3-stars. I sat at the counter to better gauge the tempo. The server arrived promptly with a menu, and my water appeared swiftly. It was refilled once by staff, twice by me. Inattention? Training? I ordered the single patty burger and upgraded the fries to a crock of chili. The chili was what I would describe as Ohio-mild. Not bland, just mild seasoning. The ingredients included beans (yay!) and the texture was good. The bad news: It was not hot. Not even warm. Mostly lukewarm, but four spoonfuls were cold. Yes, cold. And nobody' ever inquired if I was happy with the chili - or the burger. The menu mentions "weekly soup special." Chili was the weekly special. I am guessing that a pot of chili is kept in the cooler and only warmed(? microwaved?) when ordered. In the pic you will The burger is excellent. It was properly seasoned (not over- salted). The sesame bun was expertly toasted. The sauce is tasty and the portion was just right. The greens were a spring mix - another miss. The burger deserves cool crisp lettuce. I was not asked how I wanted the burger cooked ... it is a hand-formed thin patty, cooked on a flat top. It arrived well done, but not dried out. I would have preferred medium-rare, but was never asked. That said, I would happily order the burger again, but there is so much more on the menu that I want to try. The fries. I upgraded from fries to the chili for $2. Yet fries were also served. I am not a fries guy, primarily because I don't care for salt or carbs. These were made in house and if you like salted fries, you will probably be VERY happy with them. The ambiance is rural chic, nicely done and not what I expected to find in Blanchester. The woman working the register asked me to pay before my burger/entree was served. When I deferred, explaining that I would pay after my burger was served and consumed, she asked the kitchen about my burger and the reply from the grill suggested that my order was forgotten. When it arrived, it included fries that it should not have been plated (paid $2 to upgrade to chili. Summary: Great space. Great recipes. Great ingredients. Too many people/process problems. Will I return? Yes. I want to see if the problems are an aberration or endemic.

Today we made a trip to Harvester Farm to Table, and this place truly lives up to its name. They…read moredon't just talk about local sourcing -- they actually do it. Locally raised meat, locally grown vegetables, and even their own house-made bread. You can taste the care in every bite. I ordered the Brunch Burger, and it was outstanding. Two grass-fed beef smash patties, grilled to perfection, topped with a farm-raised egg, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion, all stacked on a fresh, house-made brioche bun. Even as a smash burger, it was still incredibly juicy and flavorful. It came with fresh-cut fries that were crisp, hot, and the perfect side. What really impressed me, though, was their Pay It Forward menu. For $15, you can pay for a meal for someone in need. That's not just good food -- that's a business looking out for its community, and I respect that. If you're looking for a great smash burger from a place doing things the right way, Harvester Farm to Table is absolutely worth the drive to Blanchester, Ohio. This is farm-to-table done right.

I did a quick search and turned to go to Trail Haus. I parked and walked in and asked for options since I had never eaten here. The young lady behind the counter gave me several options and I chose the "Dagwood" and a water with potato salad vs potato chips. I sad down at the counter. And about 5 or so minutes went by for the huge sandwich and potato salad came out. The sandwich was very tasty and I will say a yummy Dagwood. Now me personally I am not a fan of dill so the potato salad wasn't my favorite sadly. It was still good but again. I don't like dill and it had dill so if like me choose something else. Again the sandwich was huge and I took half home and ate it the next day and it was still very yummy. I would gladly order this again. The place was very clean including the bathroom. Everyone on staff seemed very polite. I would gladly come back and I recommend this location if you are in the area. There is also a bicycle shop attached so if riding a bike trail or needing something new, I am sure they will take care of you while you enjoy a yummy meal.

The menu has a good selection with the counter having signs about many specials. Everything is fresh and creative. They do not have kids meals so I ordered bubba cakes for the kids to share. They loved the pancakes and it came with bacon. My husband tried the chili and it comes with a side of cornbread.

So I did what any responsible, waffle-motivated adult would do: I Googled it, packed the princess (my child, not royalty), and drove 27 minutes into the wilds of Wilmington for breakfast. I've got a long, complicated love affair with Wilmington -- R&L trucking memories, pay-lake fishing , horse shows, drive-in dates with a adorable dimpled accomplice, and pizza from a hole-in-the-wall called Generations Pizzeria, back before they went all boogie and built a real restaurant. #LongTimeSupporter. Somehow, The Black Bird flew under my radar. July 9, 2025, The new kid on the block, but already serving up breakfast like it's been doing it for decades. We rolled in on a day when Mother Nature decided to audition for a snow catastrophe. School canceled, and me coming off a 20-call shift with a five-hour fire standby -- so yes, I was hangry and exhausted. #ShowMeCoffeeandBacon The Black Bird's parking lot had room, the staff waved us in, and we were told to sit wherever we liked. I considered the window seat for the ambiance, then remembered the car thermometer read "well below zero" and chose survival over Instagram lighting. Good call -- the corner booth on the opposite side of the restaurant was cold, the window seats were colder, I'm sure. Service was prompt. Water for the princess, black coffee and water for me -- because coffee is a personality trait. The menu is a delightful problem: too many good choices. I solved this like a rational adult by ordering the dish that crams the most breakfast joy onto one plate. #MostImportantMeal #HealthyBoy I ordered the Two Birds Platter - 2 eggs over-easy, bacon, a waffle, and wheat toast. * Eggs: Perfectly cooked. Not a puddle of yolk, not a hockey puck. Just right. Hats off to the chef. * Bacon: I'm normally a "slightly underdone, floppy bacon" guy, but this was crispy in the best way -- not burnt, just proud. Definitely sandwich-worthy. #maybenexttime * Wheat Toast: Salted butter, golden brown, the kind of toast that makes you consider buying a toaster with feelings. * Waffle: The reason I drove 27 minutes. Warm, slightly sugary crunch on the outside, fluffy inside. If waffles had fan clubs, this one would be president. The Two Birds Platter was delicious and filling. Highly recommended. The princess went with French toast plus a side of bacon. Three thick slices of Texas-toast-style bread, perfectly cooked, topped with a berry compote that tasted like summer and probably a small sin against your A1C. #Diabetes #WilfordBrimley She couldn't finish it (too much food? impossible), so I heroically sampled. Verdict: wonderful. Staff kept my coffee above the half-cup threshold -- a service-level I judge all restaurants by. If your coffee dips below half, you're playing with my emotions (and your tip). Let's talk price * Two Birds Platter -- $11.00 -- Incredible value. Plenty of food. I left full and happy. * French Toast -- $11.00 -- Fair and generous portions * Side of Bacon -- $4.00 -- Two slices for four bucks? Either that pig was raised on caviar or someone's tipping the bacon farmer. Pricey, but tasty. * Coffee -- $3.00 -- Hot, and delicious. Kept my cup full and offered a to go cup (great touch). They asked small or big. I said big. They delivered a cup that could power a small village. It was Huge. Worth every penny. If you follow the BaldWhiteGuy, you know I have reservations about the prices of beverages at restaurants, but his was well worth the $3. May be drinking this cup till noon! #HowManyTimeCanYouRewarm Overall: fair prices, solid portions, and service that earned a generous tip. Final Review 4 out of 5 Bald Heads -- ‍‍‍‍ Positives * Locally owned and operated -- support your neighbors, not a corporate overlord. #ShopLocal * Great service -- attentive without hovering. * Plenty of food -- bring an appetite or a friend with a trunk. * Fair prices -- especially for the main plates. * Huge to-go coffee -- caffeine for days. Negatives * Bacon price -- delicious, but my wallet cried a little. * Thermostat -- it was cold enough to make my bald head regret life choices. Turn up the heat, Black Bird. #DontBeCheap If you're in Wilmington and you like breakfast, brunch, or lunch that treats you like a person and not a number, fly into The Black Bird. Tell them BaldWhiteGuy sent you, and tell the waffle I'll be back -- probably sooner than my cholesterol would advise.

They serve breakfast all day. It's usually busy whenever I go for dinner around 5 or 6pm but service is quick. It might be hard to navigate and find a seat because it's a small place. The string lines are cute. They have music playing and Pixar movies on the TV. My favorite is the Sweet Brunch Sandwich. I also really like their biscuits and sausage gravy. Their home fries have the perfect amount of crispiness. I've tried other things on the menu and it's all been decent. Their flavored iced coffee was not great, though. My husband is convinced the French fries were the best he's ever had--and that's saying something after 65+ years of fry-tasting experience. My Saratoga chips were crisp, light, and full of flavor. A great first experience, and definitely not our last visit.
