The best thing about our lunch yesterday was the sweet, accommodating waitress.she, I might add, was the only waitress. I frankly was appalled at the bill. $50 for a grilled cheese and a tiny Cole slaw, and a turkey sandwich. Two coffee milkshakes. We could have had a much better lunch somewhere else, but wanted to give Friendlys a chance. I remember enjoying many lunches in Sturbridge years ago, good food, good prices .no wonder Friendlys is losing business. Good staffing is there. Good pricing is not. I love Friendly's and they don't have any down south where I live now so I try to go anytime I'm up north. I've never been to this location but I was very happy with it. The server had about 9 tables so, between the poor reviews and having no other servers on, I was expecting the worst. But Melissa was fast, attentive, and friendly and my food was as good as always. We still go to Friendly's on a regular basis but ever since they got rid of the hostess position, you might find yourself waiting a while to be seated...usually when the restaurant is really busy. They now have the waitresses seat you but they are often too occupied waiting on tables. Since this is the last Friendly's on the Northshore, the place gets really crowded for dinner on the weekends. Sometimes the manager comes out to seat people. Other times, he is cooking due to staff shortages in the kitchen. Sadly, a few of our favorite waitresses have moved on to other jobs but the ones that remain still do a great job taking care of us. read more

Food brings back memories. Very glad they have not changed their classic recipes, although simple. Ordered Chicken Quesadilla with fries. Haven't been here in probably 10 years and it tastes just the same it always did when I was a kid. Got a custom ice cream with chocolate ice cream, marshmellow sauce, oreos, cookie dough bites, whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, and a cherry YUM. The server was very nice, his name was Lamar. He was very friendly and witty, and able to keep a conversation with my friends and I while being funny, professional and friendly. He gets 5 stars. The reason this establishment gets 3 stars although I was happy with my visit is that although it is good, I don't think it is an above average establishment, other than the nostalgia. read more

I ordered the chicken and waffles which was advertised as a Belgian waffle and 5 chicken tenders. Half a waffle and 3 tenders were delivered to me (see the photo). I was told by the manager of the restaurant that the menu is wrong and that this is the amount they typically give. This is not advertised as a kids meal, by the way! The two pieces of waffle are rock hard and not edible at all. I did try a bite and the taste is very off, like a freezer taste. This is totally unacceptable. When me and my friend walked in last night, we were met with a nasty manager who gave us attitude when we asked for a table. He set the mood, but as soon as Kristen came over she was such a bright little light. She was sweet, funny, and knows how to make customers feel important. She apologized for our greeting and gave us the best service I could ask for. She even gave us stickers at the end. If I ran this place, I'd put her in charge and put that grumpy GM at the fry station. I'll be going back to see Kristen and recommending her service to my friends. read more

Idk about other locations but this one on 114 is a sad excuse for a restaurant. Background: I came here a year and a half ago with 2 friends and our collective 4 kids. Service was so slow, food was so slow - it took min 20 mins (MIN being the operative word) for drinks, food, ice cream, ANYTHING to get to our table. After our server disappeared for an ungodly amount of time, we asked someone for a manager. We waited half an hour for a manager to show up. In that time, our server still was MIA. Tbh, we ended up walking out, because after several hours of hell, and staff just...not being present, our kids were done with the shit and we had to go. I kept my bad review to myself until now, since we did walk out. Now to today. My friend (one of the same ones from last time) was craving buffalo tenders from Friendlys, so we figured sure why not give them another try, guarantee it's all new staff by now anyways, maybe it's improved. Noooope. From the moment we got there it was obvious this was not going to go well. No one even acknowledged us for a good 5 mins. When we finally got sat, our server, Jen, did come over promptly. She's the reason I'm putting 2 stars instead of 1. Give that girl a promotion, guys. She took good care of us despite carrying the restaurant on her back. She was hosting along with serving 6 tables, while another girl just diagonal from us complained that she didn't sign up for this, blah blah, I'm not taking anymore tables, etc. Anyways, our food took forever, because the kitchen was a disaster. We were sitting right next to the entrance, I could hear servers getting frustrated, saying things such as "can I at least have *insert kids meal here* so the kid can eat? The food is all frozen and pre bagged anyways, especially the kids stuff, so I'm not sure why it took ages for food to come out. Honestly the whole situation was just a disaster. Seems like management can't staff properly, and servers don't feel like doing their jobs. 4 servers on a Friday night with that many tables is not enough anyways. So yeah. 2 stars insteas of 1 cuz Jen saved the day. Despite being swamped, she was attentive and even refilled my friend's drink without her asking. She had no attitude and you couldn't even really tell she was flustered thru it all. If you decide to go here, ask for Jen. But remember she has no control over the kitchen being slow. read more

Me and my family went in to do pick up and the man working behind the counter raised his voice at us and refused to give us plastic knives for our to go order. We always had good experiences in the past, however today... that was not the case. We go every year for my friends birthday and they ALWAYS sing happy birthday but today they did not. They said that they and I quote,"sorry we do not offer singing or candles" and then proceeded to sing to the table next to us. I went to Friendly's at 9:15pm on a Saturday night for ice cream. The restaurant was only mildly busy, and there were 3 people working behind the ice cream counter. It took 5 minutes for the girl to stop complaining about the volume of online orders coming through (she was saying "can we somehow shut off the online orders? This is ridiculous!"). She took the order of the couple in front of us and then our order. Then we waited, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 20 minutes. We watched a bunch of door dash drivers come in to grab orders, and a few who also had to wait because the orders weren't done yet. The whole time, I'm watching and listening to this girl behind the counter complain. A 4th man eventually joined and gave them some direction about which two would do online orders and which two would do store orders. When we finally got our order (a friendZ and a sundae), the couple who ordered before us still didn't get their milkshake! What a disaster, and honestly the girl's attitude is what really led me to write the review. I get that this ja friendlys, but it was so unprofessional and only brought the vibe down. read more

One of the worst places to eat that I've seen in a very long time. We ordered coffee, which came, but after several minutes I had to ask for a napkin. I ordered a cup of clam chowder; it was cold. I returned to the kitchen and advised the server it was cold. She brought it back a minute later having been microwaved to boiling. The same cup I sent back; partially eaten! And I am told they are closing and not seating ship either because the GM is leaving. Their hours of operation list until 11PM. The food was a soggy mess! 10$ for a piece of cornbeef for my Ruben! Brown apple slices.No thank you! Tables and floors were all dirty at 1130am bathroom trash was over flowing pee all over the toilets and the bathroom smelt like someone peed ALL OVER THE FLOOR! Oh and no toilet paper. I can't think of any reason not to 5-star this place. After all, it's called FRIENDLY's and the people who work here are FRIENDLY. The people who eat here are FRIENDLY. The location they pick is customer-FRIENDLY. The food they cook is foodie-FRIENDLY. So, how can you give a place that fully lives up to its name anything less than it deserves? It'd be different if they named themselves, CLEANLY's. ;) j/k the place is definitely clean. Ok, seriously, when I think of Friendly's, I think of elderly people looking for a value, or a parent(s) w/kids, or a party of kids, who want staple food, quick and reasonably priced. It's not the cheapest but I wouldn't say it's expensive either. It's truly fair... and it's truly friendly. ;) Everything about this Friendly's is just great: 1. On Route 114. 2. Easy on/off route 128 3. Hop, Skip & Jump from Route 1 4. Quick from Peabody, Danvers, Salem, Middleton... 5. Surrounded by Malls w/Bookstores and Movies, etc 6. Sufficient Parking 7. Last I looked it had a take-out ice cream window 8. Birthday cakes and bulk ice cream on premises. Can't think of any downsides. Friendly's has to have picked up where Howard Johnson's left off. Same vinyl decoating scheme, bright lights, near highways, and just plain screaming good for ice cream. Somewhere along the line, they also bought a fast fryer. So have the grilled cheese, waffle french fries, or do any other damage that seems right for the fun moment. Walked in on Mother's Day. The restaurant was nearly dead with only a handful of people in mid afternoon. The girl was about to place us in a very noisy section, one which had a bunch of kids yelling and laughing. The rest of the restaurant was near empty, so we asked to sit near the window away from the noise. The girl said they were shutting down those sections. Huh? At 2pm? She placed us near the window anyway, and all the time we were there, they never shut down the section and more people filled in. Not sure why she said that but it was discouraging at first. With plenty of seats, and hardly any patrons, we assumed service would be quick. It was not. We sat at the table for about 10 minutes before someone came up to ask if we needed anything. Yes, a menu would be nice. After receiving that, we chose from the appetizers and waited another 10 minutes to be served. After eating the appetizers, we decided to order ice cream sundae's. Once they came out, about 10 more minutes, we swallowed them down pretty quick. A three scoop sundae was really two 4 ounce scoops of ice cream, topped with whipped cream. The girl left out the jimmies/sprinkles on top (not sure why either). She also placed the bill on the table. After the sundaes were consumed, we then waited at least 15 minutes for the waitress to pickup the credit card to pay the bill. I don't understand why we had to keep waiting for service, especially since there were only a few tables filled in the very large restaurant. Overall experience was ok, not great though. I would give a higher rating if the service was more efficient in a slow day of business. read more

Just barely a 3 in our Breakfast travels. Our usual fare of 2 over easy, home fries, bacon,toast and coffee was mostly dry and tasteless. The only hero of the breakfast were the bacon slices which were thin and well prepared. Home fries seemed like they were prepared in some home far away from this eatery. Warmed up they had a nice crisp coating and soft inside but were otherwise tasteless. Coffee got our hopes up as a carafe of a good brand name coffee was left at our table...but one taste dashed our hopes. Bitter coffee sure starts the morning of wrong. The only 5 rating we can give them is for a clean bright eatery with at least one Friendly server..ours. Otherwise our advice......Be FRIENDLY but move on. The Breakfast guys read more
