oh, Friendly's. If you're going to name your restaurant after an adjective, maybe make sure the people you hire could be described using it. Ill get the good out of the way first. the food was fine to good. noting special, but it is, in fact, Friendlys. We waited for a bit in the front of the restaurant before anyone came to ask if we needed to be seated. after we had been seated, our waitress came over to us and without making any eye contact, asked if we wanted a drink. we responded in kind. When she returned, she took our order. Whilst debating which appetizer we were going to order, she, rudely, interrupted asking if she should come back in a few minutes. i assured her we were ready. i felt very rushed. she wouldn't make eye contact or even look in our direction. she spoke low and monotone which made it hard to understand or hear the few words she spoke. when she returned with our appetizer, she didn't bring any plates or napkins and then dissapeared, so we ate with our hands over the table like we were at a family BBQ. without the family or BBQ. we weren't offered water or napkins at any point in our visit. the food then arrive and we weren't once asked how it was or if everything came out good. i had to flag down a waiter for some water after she was nowhere to be found following giving us our dinner. once dinner was done, she returned and quickly gathered our plates before going missing once again. also without saying a word. we decided to order some ice cream and that seemed to bother her, considering she was planning on bringing over the check immediately after our forks were put down. as we were deciding what toppings to put on our ice cream, she again rushed us into a decision, took our order in a monotone voice, and left without a trace. someone else delivered our ice cream, we enjoyed it, paid, and left. while we walked out we passed her sitting at a table, she ignored us. that's a wrap on Friendly's for us. read more

I wish i could give 0 stars it's ridiculous my friend and I go in to be seated and we were waiting for like 10-15 mins, it wasn't busy it was 11:30 pm a guy saw us and then went back in and never came back out i feel like it's because we are minorities. Came here for late night dessert. The place was pretty empty we were seated right away. I ordered a Chocolate Supreme Waffle Sundae, what I got was a really good chocolate sundae without the supreme waffle. I know some places don't make fresh waffles but at least heat it, defrost it, or microwave it. I was extremely disappointed in the waffle, but the ice cream and brownies were really good. read more

with 4 kids, I've spent a lot of time in Friendly's over the years.... and I was not surprised to see many of them closing as the food and service were always suspect. I found out why the Commack Friendly's is still open... it had to be recently renovated.. very clean and I actually saw employees cleaning the chairs and highchairs... WOW... No supervision. And it's chaos. If you are ever in a good mood and want to get out of it, go to Friendlys and try your patience and the take out line. The ice cream will be good. But there's a good chance you'll have to remind them what you ordered. Refrain from jumping over the counter and strangling the people that work there. It's not worth it. Tonight, I decided to eat here but when I left today, I was more than disappointed. The food was fantastic, but the service and staff made me not want to come here any more. From my knowledge, the restaurant closes at 12 am. Although I finished my meal and paid the bill, I stayed for a little while longer to catch up with a friend. The workers were nothing but rude about the situation. It began by them giving us dirty looks, followed by awkwardly circling our table waiting for us to leave, which made me feel very uncomfortable. After a while, another staff member told us our waitress was leaving soon, making us feel rushed and unwanted. We felt the need to leave, although there were still two hours until closing. As we stood up to leave, we hear the workers scream, "They're gone! They're gone!" I felt that was extremely rude and was disgusted by the entire staff. We watched the waitress run to our table and grab the tip with pride, as we have not even opened the door to leave. Overall, I should not feel rushed and uncomfortable in a restaurant. I will not be returning here ever again, as your staff is disrespectful and immature. read more

This report is NOT about their food quality, it is about their service. The waitress came over and asked what we wanted to drink. We told them that we were waiting for someone but we would just take waters. She said that she would come back which she did then she said that she would be back. 5 minutes pass and she still doesn't come. 10 minutes still no waitress. Then 15 minutes and she finally comes over to our table. This has happened before many times. Hopefully this service won't continue and I can write a better review in the future. read more

What a mess tonight! Came with my kids around 8:40 - sat for 10-15 minutes before anyone came to our table and they asked if anyone had taken our orders. Gave in our order which included an appetizer. Another 10 minutes before the waitress came back with the wrong sized Fribbles. Then the food finally comes out appetizer with the entrees but no silverware or napkins. Place is a mess - food and straw wrappers all over the floor. Whenever we dine in we have no issues! The waitresses/waiters are always great. My issues are consistently with the take out people. We occasionally order online and go to pick the food up at the other part of the restaurant. I do not eat any kind of cheese and I would say that 9 times out of 10 they put the cheese on anyway. I know that I ordered it right, since it says so on my receipt. I also always make sure it's right. On top of the orders being wrong, the people who work there aren't friendly either. A young woman who I dealt with about a month ago rolled her eyes at me when I (politely) pointed out it had cheese on it. I manage in fast food so to me, that's unacceptable. I know we aren't dealing with a 5 star restaurant here but it's still frustrating. read more

Ever since the East Northport location closed I have been coming here for my favorite honey barbecue melt / munchie mania type appetizer meal. My boyfriend and I came here Saturday night to get some ice cream. It took a few minutes to be seated because one of the hosts was seating what appeared to be her son at a table and feeding him ice cream. After she was done, we were seated at a table and a waitress rushed right over to us. She appeared to be in a bad mood and lectured us about which menus had to stay on the table. We were trying to be polite and hand her the items so she didn't have to reach over and grab everything. She brought our ice cream out and didn't add any cherries. Usually a sundae has a cherry at the top. We didn't see her again so my boyfriend spoke to someone nearby asking if they could get the cherries for us. A third person came out and dropped them on our table and walked away. The first waitress then came back about 10 mins later to drop off the check not asking if we wanted anything else. We recently stopped by the Friendly's at the corner of Indian Head Road and Jericho Tpk in Commack, NY. for a couple of Fribbles to go. It's been a long time since we had these thick shakes and since we were in the neighborhood... When I walked in there was all manner of activity in back of the counter with maybe 8 to 10 people waiting for their orders to be filled, two people were ahead of me on line. Turns out these people had been waiting upwards of 15 minutes for ice cream orders and the like. One guy walked out with an order of hamburger and fries. Less than ten minutes after I arrived the manager took my order for two Fribbles. Most of the people that were there when I showed up had left with their orders after waiting in some cases 20 minutes or thereabouts. I placed my order. Two Fribbles. How hard can that be, I thought. Fribbles are basically milk and ice cream - it's a thick shake. I watched the action behind the counter, it was almost comical how uncoordinated and haphazard people went about filling orders behind the counter. I had a clear view of all the action behind the counter. Consider that I had a single order for two Fribbles. Half the order was assigned by the manager to one young lady and the other half assigned to a young man - both apparently still in High School. There were easily a 6 or more kids in the cramped area behind the counter standing around, looking busy or playing with their cell phones. The girl was standing by the mixer machines when she got her half of my order, the boy was opposite her leaning against the ice cream freezers (cold compartments?) The area around the mixers was blocked by people looking for something or standing around. The girl had to go in search of milk on the other side of the work area, poured the milk in a steel cup, go put the milk away, then go find chocolate ice cream, put some in the steel cup, put the ice cream away. Fortunately for her the chocolate syrup was near the mixer area. Each time she left the mixer area someone would see the steel cup sitting on the counter, pick it up and look inside. Each time the girl left the mixer area she had to push her way back through the crowd. All this time the boy who was to fill the second half of the order was busy on his cell phone, apparently waiting someone to move so he could get working on the second Fribble. Having put all the ingredients in the steel cup the girl put the cup up to the mixer, but she had trouble getting the cup to stay in the mixer as the mixer was located higher than the girl could easily reach. She struggled with it for a while until the boy with the second half of my order came by and assisted her. The boy then went through the very same procedure as the girl, perhaps slightly faster. All during the time the boy was making his Fribble the girl's Fribble remained on the mixer whirring away. The boy resumed his cell phone activities immediately after he put the Fribble in the mixer and wandered away. I'm watching all this thinking about the incredible level of inefficiency I was watching. It was as if the work area was laid out specifically to increase the amount of time needed to put together any sort of ice cream related order. Ingredients were spread all over the place and the equipment located in places suitable for people 5' 10" or higher. Although the area was clean, with regard to efficiency the area was a disaster area. The girl reappeared, apparently forgetting she had put a Fribble on the mixer. It wasn't until the girl took her Fribble down the boy woke up and did the same. When the drinks finally made their way to counter, some fifteen minutes later, the person at the register (not the manager) didn't know why they were there. I stepped up and told him they were my order. I cost about $12 for the both of them. It wasn't until after we left the parking lot that we took a sip of our delicious, thick Fribbles. Except - they weren't. By the time we got the drinks they had become chocolate milk. I paid 12 bucks for two glasses of chocolate milk. I image the manager thought that breaking my Fribble order in two would expedite things. In a sense it did - It hurried my decision not to go to Friendly's in the near future. I'm in my sixties and I can state without qualification that I can personally make as many Fribbles as there are mixing machines in less than five minutes and they will come out perfect every time. If there are a dozen mixing machines set up I will have a dozen Fribbles made and ready in less than five minutes. This is not rocket science. All it takes is focusing on the task at hand. Straighten out that work area so ingredients and equipment are easily accessible, come up with standard methods for filling customer orders an stick to them. Cell phones absolutely must be verboten in the kitchen and customer areas. If you're not needed to do something in the kitchen or the dining area chances are you're not needed to work there at all. read more

So my boyfriend and I decided to go here on a date night , and instead of going somewhere really fancy we decided to just have some fun and go to Friendly's and enjoy some food and ice cream since we both like it so much and we did not leave in the good mood we came in with. First of all let me start with this I have a bad anxiety disorder that I get professional treatment for and a bad social anxiety disorder. I have trouble making eye contact and speaking to people I don't know. Every time my boyfriend and I go out to eat he orders for me, because unfortunately it's hard for me to do it for myself. Our waiter was JOE on Wednesday January 2nd at 8:30 pm. I am not making fun of him in any way but to make sure you know which joe I am speaking about he did have only a thumb on one hand unfortunately. But that does not matter. My boyfriend and I came in very happy we were seated and then joe took 15 minutes to acknowledge us once we were seated. We began to get annoyed and antsy but whatever he came over to us and we were happy and my boyfriend began to order for me as I cannot do it myself , as I looked down joe looked at me and said "can't speak for yourself?" Which I was really upset by and really set the tone of the whole dining experience. My boyfriend and I almost left because I sat there with tears in my eyes. As my boyfriend had to explain to joe why he was ordering for me. I sat there feeling humiliated and anxious. We ordered our appetizer of loaded waffle fries which were delicious as usual but we were not given plates. First of all the Resturant wasn't even busy there was about 4 other tables. My boyfriend asked for plates and we waited and waited for plates as joe did everything but get us plates. Then he stood bullshitting with a customer for over 5 minutes laughing and talking we waited and waited for plates nothing. We glanced over at him and joe came over very sarcastically and said "did you need something?" As we were done with the waffle fries already and my boyfriend calmly said yes we needed plates.. and joe got them after that. But we no longer needed them. We ate our meals, and our ice cream and then waited about 20 minutes for the check watching joe bullshit with other employees , lean against the wall talking etc. I don't think we will be back to this location. His comment in the beginning really set the tone for the whole experience and I was very offended and uncomfortable the rest of the dining experience. Let me tell you about my experince at friendlys, I have never been so entertained in my life. I walked into the place expecting a crappy little ice cream shack thanks to all the other prime yelpers out there but it turns out that most of these one and two star reviews come from people who are just complete assholes, to be honest the service at friendlys isnt that bad, me and my family went in when it was packed with kids and all we could hear was kids screaming and laughter from the parents that couldnt control thier children. But then a lovely lady weclomed us at the desk and told us that it would be a twenty minute wait(for people who complain about a wait at friendlys your just dumb). Once we sat down we had an amazing server named Hayden(thats my name!) He was a super nice gentlemen that took care to all our needs and even went beyond expectation. When you go into some places, you know what to expect. Here you are not disappointed. Friendly's is not a place for gourmet dining. It's noisy, full of kids and teens, and also makes great sundaes. There are not a lot of places left that you can get a sundae and sit down to eat it, while your friends enjoy their burgers. So they don't have 64 flavors, but a Jim Dandy is fun. Okay, so now I can't finish the whole thing, and my son keeps an eye on me, waiting for me to get my fill so he can dig in. That's why I usually order extra toppings on the side. I expect a place with young or exasperated waitresses, waiting on tables filled with fidgety children, the occasional party, and am sometimes pleasantly surprised to get smiles from them. THE place for fried clams, or french fries that taste like fried clams sometimes. Next to a burger, maybe a Fribble, and that Jim Dandy for dessert. The food is decent, the ice cream is always great and I love how the additions they make to it. The worst in service. Like all kids, my eighteen-year old daughter and her friends stopped here for some food after one of them got off work from target. They got to the restaurant around 10:10PM. They close at 11PM. I think the staff ignored them on purpose because they were not seated until about fifteen or twenty minutes. They were being leered at- not being asked if they wanted a table. Mind you they were not busy- I think they were trying to discourage the kids from coming in to order as that can delay from going home on time at 11pm. They finally got seated but after a plate of appetizers and milkshakes, they were told very nastily that they cannot order more food as they were closing in ten minutes. At fifteen minutes before 11, my daughter said that the staff were already sweeping/vacuuming the floors, all while about ten tables were still occupied. Where was the manager to stop this outrageous treatment of customers? Don't they want business? Well, with the myriad of choices for eateries around Commack, I think my daughter will take her business elsewhere. Id give zero stars if I could. read more
