"It tastes like a purple glazed donut." Saw UBE Donut and... Hit "book mark" like a hundred times! The little one and I came here just for this donut. The people working here are super nice and the donuts are good. However, the UBE donut tasted nothing like UBE to me. In fact, it tasted like a glazed donut and the little one commented that "It tastes like a purple glazed donut." They offer a free donut with check-in and do have different donuts including a red velvet cake. To each his own, I personally did not taste any UBE and would much prefer driving to JoJo's Bibinkahan in Carson and getting me an UBE bibinka. Friendly Donuts has been a place that I have wanted to go for a while. Photos of ube donuts and Dossants (Cronuts) were showing up on Yelp and were enticing me. But, it wasn't until I met Jeni C, Yelp's OC Intern, and spoke donuts with her that I decided that I needed to come here for my donuts. The first time I went to Friendly Donuts, I arrived a little before 8AM. There were several people in front of me, including an attractive friendly young woman that I had the privilege of speaking to. She convinced me that I needed to get the Cronut. I listened to her advice got a Dulce de Leche Dossant, and a couple of Ube donuts. A day later, I came back and got another Ube Donut and a Bacon Maple Bar donut. The Ube Donuts were nothing special. It was a purple donut. I didn't think there was any ube taste to the donut. The first time I came here, a woman gave me an Ube Donut with a Blueberry on top. The second time I got one without a Blueberry. I don't know if the Ube donut is supposed to come with a blueberry or not. But, both times, the Ube donut tasted like a regular donut to me. The Dossant was a deep fried croissant. It was filled with cream. The croissant portion of the the dossant was nice and buttery. The outsides were golden brown with sugar covering the outside of the bread. It was topped by some cream and a caramel. The Dossant is delicious. I can get one everyday. The Bacon Maple Bar was made to order. After I ordered, the gentleman working grab and Maple bacon bar. He then went to the back and grabbed a knife to cut the top of the donut in half and added bacon. He then warmed it up for me by throwing that bad boy into the microwave. The Bacon Maple Bar was delicious. The Maple and Bacon went well together, even though he microwaved it. Friendly Donuts is one of the better donut shops that I have been to. There is lots of good stuff here. I am glad that Jeni C told me about this place. The young, attractive woman? She was none other than my Yelp friend, Alison M who checked in on Yelp. It wasn't until I got back to the office and checked the Yelp website that I saw her check in. I didn't realize it was her until I commented on her check in. First time here today. I got 10 doughnuts. I tried the white chocolate guava kind and it's so good! When me and my mom went today the workers told us it came out out of the oven 20 minutes ago and we got the new kind. The staff are really nice, friendly and kind! She ordered a canole. Not a donut, but a canole. I thought canoles were pasta, apparantly they are a overally sweet treat. Purple is my favorite color, but I dont like to eat purple food, and I dont think I like Ube, even though I've never had a UBE. Since we are in Ube land, do as the Ubes do and eat Ube donuts. It tasted like a blue donut to me. It was alright, if I knew what ube tastes like I could tell you if it was ube licious. What I do worship is bacon. I was starting to hear a buzz about a local donut shop serving up some unique flavors like ube. I, for one, am not a fan of ube but for some reason I wanted to check it out anyway. Blueberry Dossant -- Cronut, croissant donut. Well, this place calls them a dossant. Flaky and slightly crunchy like a croissant and shaped like a donut. I thoroughly enjoyed the blueberry glaze and fresh blueberries on top. It was perfectly sweetened with just the right amount of flavor. Cookies 'n Cream Dossant -- If you're looking to develop diabetes, then this dossant will definitely get you there. It is extremely sweet. The dossant itself is already covered in tons of granulated sugar. It is stuffed with whipped cream and chocolate syrup, with more whipped cream and chocolate syrup on top. it is then topped with a single Oreo cookie. Donuts -- I'm guilty of eating both a red velvet and blueberry donut in one siting. I felt horrible the entire time. Oh, who am I kidding? I was enjoying every second of it! The blueberry donut was great but I think Dunkin' Donuts makes a better version (have yet to try the infamous M&M). You can choose to get the donut glazed or plain but the glaze gives it a little something extra, with the extra sweetness and crunch. The red velvet donut was decent but I couldn't really discern the flavor. This is the same with their ube donuts. Their donuts lack flavor so they just come out as an average donut with just a bit of flavor. The folks here are really friendly. read more

Friendly Donuts is located in orange by the famous Morenos restaurant. I've seen this place many times driving by but have yet to try it. Yesterday, my hubby and kids and I decided to stop in. When I tell You this donut shop is stunning, aesthetically pleasing, just an overall cute spot, the colors are great and complement each other, the phrases you catch glimpses of are funny and make the average adult laugh. We were greeted by a guy who took our order. We ordered a chocolate on chocolate with chocolate sprinkles, donut holes, churro mochi, ube mochi, einspanner, Vietnamese matcha with cold foam and the rose cardamom. For the donuts, my husband LOVED the mochi donuts so much he got back in line and ordered two more. They were delicious. My daughter enjoyed her triple chocolate, my son jumped back in line with my husband and wanted the m&m donut. The glazed donut holes were on the crispier side which is fine and totally a preference, but I like them soft and light, I'd skip out on those. I enjoyed my churro mochi donut especially so light and airy. The einspanner was DELICIOUS. my gosh I wished I lived closer so I can get one every day. And for the month of Feb they are only $2. So yummy. The match cold foam drink was for sweetened matcha lovers, definitely an acquired taste, my hubby enjoyed it, but preferred mine instead. I came here to try the Ube Ice cream sandwich and was not disappointed - in fact, this was probably one of the best ice cream/donut sandwiches I've ever had. That being said, the other donuts I've tried have ranged from mediocre to decent. The first time I tried an ice cream donut sandwich was at the much raved about After's, which in my opinion is just okay. The donut there is really soft, so there really is no textural contrast between the donut and the ice cream... leading to a very messy, one-textured, overly sweet calorie bomb. The one served here, on the other hand, was a lot better. The donut itself is sliced in half and a generous scoop of bright purple, ube ice cream is sandwiched in between the halves. The donut itself is delightfully light and slightly crumbly, which when paired with the creamy texture of the ice cream, is really delicious. Reasonable price, good flavors without being overly sweet, and nice textures. Yum! It should be noted, however, (as other reviewers have mentioned) that the ube flavor is not super prominent, so if that's what you're looking for, then you might be disappointed. I also tried a couple of their cronuts, their red velvet (free with check in), and their maple old fashioned. The cronuts were decent, but would not go out of my way to get again. Their red velvet was really mediocre and bland. So much so that I didn't even bother getting a free one the second time I checked in here. The maple old fashioned was just okay as well - I think the ones at donuttery are much better, as the maple glaze had an off-putting, almost plasticky artificial aroma. Again, would be back for their ube ice cream sandwich for sure, and that's probably what I'll stick with. read more

We swung by Friendly Donuts since we were in the area. I kept seeing IG posts of their mochi donuts, so we picked up a half dozen, a sprinkles donut, and a strawberry cronut. The mochi donuts were delicious. They were very fresh and not too sweet. The next day they weren't good, so eat them the same day. The sprinkles donut is standard, but there was something off tasting about my strawberry cronut. I couldn't identify what it was, but it was weird. We'll definitely be back for the mochi donuts.
