Steve (Owner's response to my prior review) is amazingly duplicitous. Yet more "fast-talking" that sounds good, but is misleading and just plain untrue on every level. And yet more lack of empathy and understanding. Bottom line - within two hours of a full AC "check and recharge and valve repair" by Friendly Auto, the system had completely evacuated and was blowing hot air. They then wanted $500 to fix a leak that supposedly wasn't there the day before. Everything I said in the original review is true. Steve did NOT give me a written estimate before leaving or afterwards (I requested by email THREE times) either on the initial repair or the follow-up. What I left with after initial recharge was the invoice (which, as you'll note, did not contain info on how much refrigerant was captured or used). It's amusing/alarming he claims to have security camera footage "showing me receiving a written estimate." Doesn't exist, and is a bold-faced lie. I did NOT "watch netflix" while waiting...In fact, owner knows this as he directed me to a local restaurant. I would have watched netflix if there had been a remote for their TV, which was stuck on Cheers reruns. I did NOT refuse to look at any requested repairs at any time. This is a out-and-out lie. During the repair, they never offered to show me anything! Only when I brought it back the next day, and after them telling me there was a $500 leak they had caused/hadn't discovered, did they offer to "show me," and I did go look, which consisted of watching a mechanic under the car rub a substance between his fingers. This is when their own mechanic said that "sometimes recharging the system can CAUSE leaks." Why wasn't this disclosed prior to the initial repair? I find it hard to believe that such a large leak could go undiscovered when it occurred within 2 hours of recharge. Despite what Steve says about informing me of a "leak," they did NOT mention needing new valves until AFTER they had recharged the system the first time. And they didn't say the valves were leaking, just that I needed new ones. Once I authorized the $40 for new valves (again, verbally, nothing was presented in writing), it took another hour or so to RE-do what they had done the first time. At no time did they mention there were other leaks, or that there could be, or that fixing them wouldn't be included in the repair I had already paid for. Also, I didn't sign anything prior to the repair that indicated this. Most repair shops have an authorization form that needs signing prior to work - they don't. For Steve not to understand how frustrating it is for a customer to pay money to fix something, only to not have it fixed - and in fact, be WORSE on the same day, and needing a $500 repair beyond that, is obviously very indicative of someone who doesn't care about the customer. Steve mentioned the mileage and age on the car. Don't see how this is relevant to whether the system was properly inspected and repaired, or how they handled the entire issue. Finally, Steve mentioned that I have a lot of 1 star reviews. I can see why the concept of a yelper having a lot of reviews is foreign to them, as the VAST majority of their positive reviews are from yelpers with less than 15 reviews (hmmmmm...). Steve's attempt to discredit this review based on my # of 1 star reviews is telling. Of course, he doesn't mention that in my 525 reviews, I have just as many 4 and 5 * reviews as 1* reviews (which is indicative of a balanced yelper). It's very telling on his part that he tried to mislead you by leaving that out. Gotta avoid this place at all costs. Poor repair service, poor customer service. read more

This was the first time we have used friendly auto centers, and I was quite surprised. They were quick on intake of our vehicle, told us when we would expect to hear from them, and when they did return the call as promised diagnosed another problem we were not aware of. I have an unusual truck; kind of a Mad-Max rat-rod '79 Chevy 4x4. It needed a lot of work, there were many issues with it. I noticed Friendly's strong Facebook marketing and did research and they looked good, decided to give em a try. Contacted owner Steve, expressed my concerns, and he says "I know every inch of that truck". I like the confidence. Truck gets to the shop, the crew were professional and confident as well. Later I get this link texted to me which is this cool breakdown of what's good, what is so-so, and what is bad and needs repair asap. Steve gives me a quote, stung a little, but quality is something that costs money. You get what you pay for. (It's not the 90s, labor isn't $60 an hour anymore lol) I get the truck back and all these mechanical problems with the truck are gone. No more oil, tranny fluid, & gas leak. The new brakes; no more squeaking. Janky front end issues resolved. And the long-standing steering issues and finally completely fixed, etc etc. The best feeling is not stressing over it anymore. I took my car here because it wasn't running at all. They said it was seized up, along with a million other things wrong with it... They told me they put a chemical in it to get it flushed out and it didn't work. They continued to do an oil change and change spark plugs even though it still wouldn't run. They Charged me $540, kept it for a week just to call to let me know they can't fix the problem. My car still doesn't run, they didn't need to do extra work just to charge me more money if they Couldn't get it to run after trying to flush it out with the chemical. read more

I wasn't going to write a review about Friendly Auto Centers and leave things as they were but, I took my car in for an appointment on June 28th to have the brake booster checked out as I had done my due diligence in researching possible issues on the symptoms I was encountering with my brakes. I also asked friend of mine that's a mechanic and he also mentioned that it is likely the brake booster is bad. I thoroughly gave symptoms to the person at the front desk (Arik). Mentioned that pedal seemed fine with pressing once, but car does not slow down as it should. Pressing the brakes 2nd and 3rd time the pedal does not move as far down and actually a bit stiff and still does not slow down as it should even with a lot of foot pressure. Stopping distance was increased by 3x what it should normally. I mentioned to him about my little google research that other mechanics says issue would likely be a brake booster. I waited a bout an hour and I was told that the problem was glazing on the rotors and that they just needed to be resurfaced and the brake pads to be replaced. I had asked if they were sure nothing was wrong with the brake booster and I was told that all the diagnostic and inspection they had done did not indicate any issue with the brake booster or the master cylinder. Issue was only due to glazing on the rotors and it needed new pads. So, I left the car for them to work on in the afternoon and I followed up later that afternoon and talked to Arik, and he gave me the run down. After resurfacing the rotors and replacing the brake pads, brakes were doing really well. But during the road test, then the brakes went stiff. The technician looked again and informed Arik that the brake booster all of a sudden went bad causing the stiff brake. (wasn't that the initial issue I asked them to look into) I told Arik I would be picking up my car the next morning and taking it elsewhere. When I showed up the following morning, June 29, Arik mentioned that the Service Manager was going to try to make things work and make adjustment to the total cost out the door. It seemed reasonable and I took it and if I were to write a review, it would have been a 3 star review. Well, on my way to work on June 30, I tried to engage the cruise control but it did not work. The cruise control light turns on and the cruise control does not engage when pushed. I called them on the morning describing to Arik the issue, so he had me on hold to talk to the technician. The technician told him that there is nothing the area that they had worked on that could affect the cruise control electronics/mechanism. There was no offer from them for me to bring it back in and they could check if there may be some odd occurrence something was disturbed. I left it at that and I did some web searching on issues and again I found several things that could have been involved that could affect the cruise control system. I guess there is no value in new customers (possible repeat customer) as they have many great reviews. read more

Everyone in my family goes to them because, after multiple experiences with the dealerships and other "brand name" auto shops, Friendly not only got the job done but went above and beyond to get it done right and according to their original quote. All of my family goes there because time and time again other places were unable to permanently fix the problems with their cars and they spent thousands going back and forth with them. After quoting a free, 1- to 2-hour diagnostic and then instead having to take a day and a half to get to the root of my car's issues, they stuck by their quote and didn't charge me despite the additional hours of labor required. They were communicative and more than accommodating to make sure I had free transportation during the service. The digital reports I got on my car were clear and shareable (helpful for me-who knows nothing about cars). Everything they told me was agreed with by the trusted "car people" in my life. Another great experience at Friendly Auto Centers in the books. Left my car with them while I was out of town to diagnose what the check engine light was on for. Steve and his guys identified the problem and took to the time to do a little searching and found that what was going to be a costly repair was a recalled item from VW and even called the dealership for me and verified it was covered under warranty. I called about a 4 wheel alignment they had advertised on Groupon. After seeking clarification if this was a 1 time alignment or if it had a 12 month warranty they were no longer "friendly" Their policy is if you hit a pothole they will not cover this in their warranty. Unsure who would aim for a pothole, but I am not one of those drivers. When I mentioned Big O's policy as a comparison that their 12 month warranty covered things like this and I am only seeking clarification of their policy the person who answered the phone (Mike) seemed to become agitated with the question. It seems unusual that when a customer is simply calls for clarification that it becomes such an issue for them. I'm going to play it safe and avoid based on this interaction. If this is how they treat "potential" customers - how do they treat long time customers? Not a risk I am willing to take. read more

Went in for an alignment with old, mismatched tires - they did the best job they could and noted to me that there was uneven wear on the tires from being mismatched and misaligned, therefore the car would continue to slightly pull (as it did). A few weeks later, I put new tires on the car they did a realignment/adjustment for free as a follow-up to their previous work. With those improvements done, Steve drove around with me afterwards to help recognize the causes of some non-alignment issues with the vehicle. Best shop I've been to in my life thanks to other Yelp reviews! From the start, Manny was so nice and super helpful! He hooked up my car right away, read the codes, and once the problem was determined, Steve talked me through every issue and why he recommended what he did (even explained it all nicely to my dad when he called asking about it!). When I was told I needed to leave my car overnight, they offered to drive me back home and helped transfer all my belongings from my car (...slightly embarrassing considering I was just starting out on my way to California with a Honda Accord full of crap when I had to bring it in! lol). I even warned them when they initially offered and their response was, "No problem, we have a van!" Haha The next day Steve texted me some pictures of some problem areas they noticed- talk about going above and beyond! I drove on main St on Wednesday morning looking for a auto mechanic , it is very difficult to find a mechanic without an appointment, ...but at last I did find friendly auto center, I did have to schedule an appointment , but it's same day afternoon, before I went to F. A. C . I knew the was an oil leak of which I assume the mechanic would find the leak and inform me of the leak , but they didn't, when they were finish with the job , I ask if they saw any problem or leak , and he assured me that there was no problem , the wanted to sell me a battery, even though I bought that battery three months ago???, The price for the oil change was as expected, so I was content with that, I am not sure if I want to go back and ask for a quote to fix the leak, or go back to looking for someone else. read more

An absolute scam. These guys should not be in business. Even the front counter guy I believe his name is Michael gave me his personal phone number because he felt terrible that the shop was ripping me off. Left me stranded and without a rig. So I rented a rig and got a hotel. And it was one thing after another. They couldn't even give me a solid answer on what needed to be fixed. I was the one that ran for the parts. I was stuck out of town and told that it'd be a couple hours for the job. Which is the only reason I brought my car to this shop.. I cannot stress that enough. That is the only reason I brought my rig in. Will never recommend this shop to anybody. In fact I would recommend them to the most crack-headed person in the city before I sent them to the shop. There's a reason why mechanics get bad reps and this shop is the one that causes that. It's your fault apparently if you bring your rig in there and make a choice to wait for your truck. Especially if they can't fix it. When they said or how they said. Do not trust them as far as you can throw them. And in all honesty just wait for a response to this review. The owner Steve will lay some petty remark making me look bad. When in reality he cost me everything. This is one of those shops where they're nice to your face but they will screw you in every way shape and form read more
