I came with a friend for breakfast on a weekend, it's cute inside with pics of Frida, clean and cute. Service was good, and our waitress made recommendations for us since it was our first time here. I ordered the mexitartine - it was toast with chorizo and eggs, the menu said it was cornbread, but it was more like toast to me, it came with a small glass of OJ on the plate, which seemed a bit odd to me. I had already ordered OJ. The OJ was delicious and fresh squeezed, but on my plate? Hmm? The toast was just ok. It did also come with 2 side salsas which were very flavorful. My friend ordered the sonora grill, which looked great! It had carne asada, hash browns, black beans, and eggs, and came with tortillas! I wished I had ordered what she had. All was good! Another new spot to try!!! My boyfriend and I decided to check this place out since we heard great things about it!! We were greeted immediately upon arrival. Looking at the menu they offer many great options to select from! I ordered the vanella bean pancakes and my boyfriend ordered the Diego rivera sandwich. I decided to not try coffee at this spot and not because I didn't want any but because they only have one option for coffee. Anyways, our food arrives quickly and it's very well presented. The pancakes were so delicious and flavorful, the side of fruit compliment the plate. My boyfriend and I decided to share so I had half of his sandwich and all I got to say is that if you like Chile relleno this sandwich is perfect, it had chicken and a half Chile relleno with a lot of cheese it was the best of both worlds. They also give you an option of fríes,soup or salad we went with the fries. The fries were very well done crispy but not over cooked and they had a lot of flavor. I also liked that the sandwich came with two sides of salsas a green and red. The green one had a kick but it had just the right amount! I also ordered a beet, carrot, orange juice wow!!!! So good if you don't like beets then I wouldn't recommend it but if you like beets you will love the combination of the juices in one. The inside is clean and welcoming but it's a bit awkward eating or talking because there is no Music playing. Like I said customer service was good but it can definitely improve. I know it's a new spot so they might still be working on it but when it came to paying our bill we weren't explained if we had to pay at the counter or if we had to wait at the table, so we walked up and asked and the guy wasn't sure. So maybe clarifying it when handing the check will avoid awkward moments, I also think that since this is a new spot asking customers If they have been there before. I do highly recommend this spot and I'm sure you won't regret trying it!!!! Prices are soo good!! Cheaper than most breakfast spots I think we paid 25 dollars before tip! Which is very good considering the food was very delicious!!!! I will be visiting this spot again even though I have to drive 45 mins to get there!!!! read more

We really enjoyed the Chile Relleno, Chilaquiles and BLT sandwich at this restaurant (three separate diners.) The service was quick and friendly, the portions appropriate and the outdoor seating was very pleasant. A great ace for breakfast, brunch or lunch. read more

I really like Frida's cafe. I come here often for breakfast as it's on the way to one of the jobs I do. The food here tastes very clean, not overly greasy or cheesy or anything like that. Everything is flavorful and feels like it was made from scratch. When heading to my job I typically get the vegetarian breakfast burrito though honestly, my partner and I love this place so much that it's also become our go-to burrito place before heading on a hike. I've had other delicious meals here such as the huevos rancheros. The salsa, again, tastes very nice and clean but still flavorful. I've never had anything here I didn't like. Food comes out fairly quickly and all the employees are super friendly! This feels like a family business. They've got indoor and outdoor seating which is nice. The outdoor seating is covered too. Another perk about this place is that there is pretty much never a wait. And if you're on the go like I often am, it's really easy to place a pickup order over the phone. If you are ever on this side of town, I recommend frida's. read more

Gets three stars for food but one star for there blatant deception. They brought us bill and tried not letting us see it, that's because they had a 75 cent up charge per egg. Okay a little high but okay, do to egg shortage. Issue was with not letting you know before ordering and trying to not let you see the up charge. When asked about it waitress made the excuse of other places are doing it. Still not the point, just be up front and it's not a big deal. I would have gave them five stars a couple months back. We've been wanting to stop by this new cafe. It's close to our gym so it's been tempting us for awhile now. Saturday morning, we finally stopped in. It's a small cafe that's bright and decorated in vibrant colors with walls adorned by Frida Kahlo prints. The menu is wonderful. There were some healthy options, which I appreciate. There were also some scrumptious sounding options not so good for my diet that I'll have to try on my next visits. I've already told friends how much we enjoyed our dining experience! No longer vegan friendly! I've been eating here for some time and have brought lots of people with me. I've hyped them up in Tucson foodie Facebook pages. No more! I get the chilaquiles and have them hold the eggs, sour cream, and cheese. They have always subbed hash browns for me. Now there is an upcharge of 75 cents to do this. I can definitely afford 75 cents but WHY?! I'm removing expensive stuff to add something cheap. This just penalizes vegans unnecessarily. I'll drive the extra distance to get chilaquiles from Tumerico from now on. Ridiculous! read more

Saw this described as a sort of hidden gem, and that's certainly what it is. Despite being the corner unit (nicely placed so there's some shaded outdoor seating) of a strip mall, with the typical high-ceilinged box layout of such malls' units, it's decorated nicely, featuring many visual homages to its namesake. There was one server on during the early weekday breakfast, and she was a tremendously helpful and friendly young woman who more than made up for what she may have lacked in experience with warmth, desire to fulfill guests' needs, and any easy ability to connect. I can't say enough good things about the food. We had the chorizo breakfast burrito and vanilla bean pancakes. The portions were generous, the ingredients were clearly fresh, and those that were supposed to be flavorful were robust while those that were milder struck beautiful notes of subtle gustatory joy that lingered. I was particularly struck by the pickled vegetables that were served with the burrito. I don't believe I've had such condiments served with any type of Mexican or Southwestern food I've had before (if I have, they were clearly not interesting enough for me to commit to memory). They reminded me of some of the wonderful pickled condiments that often accompany Korean cuisine, but with a brighter, fresher, and less salty palate. The burrito was wonderfully smoky, spicy, and substantial--these provided the perfect counterbalance. If you arrive early (they open at 6 am), perhaps by 8 am, you can get amazing early bird deals on rotating dishes. This restaurant alone makes me wish I were visiting Tucson a few more days just so that I could try out several dishes that I almost got on my first visit. The elote omelette was delicious as was the Chile relleno and would definitely make this a regular staple . I love this spot! So glad I found it a few months ago to have breakfast with a friend and have been back multiple times. The food is great (I'm especially fond of the chilaquiles), beautifully presented. The service is friendly, not saccharine sweet, attentive but don't hover, and quick without rushing customers out. We are searching for a good breakfast place where salt isn't the first thing on the menu. Frida's has met our culinary expectations, but with today's frosty service, they went down by a star. Isn't part of the experience the service, too? (our usual server was not there today) A few things about Frida's: -they have a patio, dog friendly -the inside has quite a number of tables -everything is fresh and homemade -flavor abounds, without the salt shock I'm an inquisitive diner, so I ask a million questions before ordering (not today, as our server wasn't having it). So far my fave is the Tartine for savory, and the French Toast for sweet. The ginger/pear/pineapple shot is a sweet-sharp awakening of the senses. So far, so good. The typical American breakfast was great: eggs were properly prepared, toast was hot, and the hash browns were on point. This is a lovely little diner on the east side with decor based on Frieda Kahlo's art. Food is Tucson southwestern style and very deliciously creative. Coffee was good, and service was friendly and very good. They also serve a few cocktails which makes this a good brunch stop.
