Breakfasts with a Mexican flair. A Chili Relleno topped with Egg & chorizo queso and pico de gallo. Superb presentation and just as delicious. My wife had the Reuben sandwich which she raved about. The service was warm and helpful and the interior and patio dining was clean and inviting. The customers were eclectic from a man treating his parents to a lunch, a young couple connecting over good food and two matrons enjoying good food and conversation. Compliments to the chef. I heard great things about this place and was glad to have finally tried it. I got the dream omelette, the eggs were cooked so perfectly and everything was flavorful. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portions you receive. The coffee was also strong and delicious, and they have flavored creamers available. I loved the homemade salsas, the chile de arbol one had a really nice heat and flavor; the green salsa was delicious as well. Also tried the pear, pineapple, ginger shot which was super tasty! Walked in to a very busy cafe at 11:15 a.m. They serve lunch or breakfast all day - decision time for both of us. My husband got the veggie sandwich with a fresh, bright green salad. I've been driving past this restaurant for many months. I was finally able to visit with my mom on a Saturday morning. We started with brewed coffee for both. Its kind of strange that they brought out this teeny, tiny maybe 1 or 2 oz cup of milk for our 2 cups of coffee. I didn't bother asking for another tiny cup of milk or cream thankfully they had French vanilla cups to add to your coffee. Coffee taste was decent! I approve. Mom ordered the hummingbird omelette. She didn't finish it and took half her plate including fruits home. I ordered the Frida Huevos Rancheros. It was a perfect serving for me as I've has gastric sleeve surgery. My dish consisted of black beans at the base, an over hard egg and 2 tortillas drenched in the red sauce. It was garnished with avocado slices and cilantro. I enjoyed it so much. I actually took half home. For someone who doesn't have an eating restriction, I think the portions would be considered small. I would definitely like to come back to try the Frida and Diego chilaquiles. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side but also has an outdoor eating area. Very friendly and bilingual staff. Minus 1 star for the minimal menu. I spent several minutes translating each dish to my Spanish speaking mom. It would help if they had a Spanish menu or at least pictures in this Hispanic restaurant. read more

Had a breakfast lunch here today. Portion size was great and the service was prompt and attentive throughout. The food was fine, but nothing fantastic. I can't say anything was bad, but the eggs, home fries, bacon and side pancake were just okay. Eggs were cooked perfectly and tasted fine. The rye toast was the highlight of the meal. A hole in the wall gem for Tucson! Frida's Cafe is themed after the famous Mexican painter, Frida Kahlo. There are paintings and pictures of Frida all over the restaurant. The food is as good as the art. The restaurant is not fancy at all, but the food and service speak for itself. The staff is friendly and quick and the food is amazing. They serve your usual breakfast items (pancakes, eggs, etc.), alcoholic drinks, and Mexican entrees. The ingredients are fresh, crisp, and delicious. I highly recommend you come for a visit. Not impressed! I was new to the place and asked the server what she recommended. She tells me she doesn't eat the food. I'm like "ok can you tell me which dish is popular", She says all the food is good. Why would you work somewhere that you have no idea how the food tastes. Even if you haven't tasted any dishes, you can see what gets ordered more. As a server you should have some idea. At first when I told our server that the Dr. Pepper was flat and should be changed, I felt ignored. But towards the end of my meal she did come over to let me know they changed the co2 and gave me another Dr. Pepper. That was caring & nice. There is a big selection of omelettes but sandwiches weren't anything special and fries didn't seem cooked enough. There are wayyyyy too many other good cafes in Tucson that serve better Mexican food. Don't waste your time at this one. read more

Think of this place as a diner with a Mexican twist! Fast service, cheaper eats, and a causal feel. Very much no frills, but delicious nonetheless. I was surprised with how yummy and soft their vanilla bean pancake was and the quality of their freshly squeezed OJ. This cafe is awesome. I love the Frida artwork and the overall vibe. All the staff was very friendly and on top of it. Their menu is a mix of traditional type of breakfast with a twist and they offer daily specials, too. All of the food was delicious and fresh, I especially loved the iced tea, vanilla bean pancakes, the special called El Indio and the sourdough toast. Cute hole in the wall cafe that serves tasty breakfast at decent prices! Staff is lovely as well. I've chosen the sweet options on the menu while my husband opts for savory. The vanilla bean pancakes are so good; the vanilla flavor is not subtle so if you're a fan of vanilla, highly recommend. The Hornitos French toast was decent but I prefer the pancakes. Both come with a side of eggs (you choose how they're prepared) and bacon or sausage - the sausage links are a winner. My husband has had the huevos rancheros and Mexitartine which he has enjoyed; the huevos has a bit of a kick to it. This little gem is hidden away on the southeast corner of Grant and Craycroft. It tried it for the first time this week with some friends and was pleased with the food and the service. Our server was friendly and attentive. I got the hummingbird omelette, which had bacon, cheese, mushrooms, and spinach in it... Very tasty. It came with two tiny containers of sauces. I'm not one who likes spicy, so I didn't use them. Fresh fruit of melons and pineapple came as a side. I asked for the sourdough toast and it was chewy and crusty, just the way I like it. My friends ordered BLT sandwiches and they were enormously thick. You pretty much had to deconstruct it to be able to eat it! Yum! Had occasion to be out early for breakfast in Tucson at 0630. Few places open, stopped in here. Food was classic American diner with a southwest twist, perfectly fine far, but nothing special. However, the outdoor patio is just awesome -- covered, open to the breezes, fantastic view of the northern mountains. And the coffee was excellent -- most diner coffee is a scorched, rewarmed disappointment. This was flavorful and not bitter or burned, a truly pleasant surprise.
