Lunch with my girlfriends is a highlight of my week. Today's adventure was Eclectic Cafe, at the corner of Sabino Canyon and Tanque Verde. Neither of us had been there in quite a while and were looking forward to it. The restaurant is clean and spacious and we were seated right away and given menus. Eclectic is a perfect name. Everyone should be able to find something that appeals: sandwiches, egg dishes, salads, Mexican, and more. I'd been craving a Rueben and my friend decided to try the taco salad, which is on the seasonal menu. The waiter complimented my choice, saying the Rueben is the best thing on the menu and likely the best Rueben I've ever had, so I was excited. He offered sweet potato fries as an add-on, and I took the offer. Our food arrived soon. I am a bit late on the photos, sorry. A couple bites are gone from my sandwich and the top layer of my friend's salad was already gone. The salad was billed as chicken, beans, cheese, and a host of others things, packed into a generously-sized bowl. She was sure the meat was pork based on taste and color and asked the waiter, but he said it was chicken. My sandwich was plump with corned beef, cheese and sauerkraut. It had lots of tasty sauce but the bottom bread was so soggy that it disintegrated and was difficult to eat. I ended up separating the breads, scraped all the good stuff onto the crispy side of bread, and it was good. I was getting full, so just ate the insides of the second half, so didn't deal with the other soggy toast. The sweet potato fries were lightly crispy and should have been served hot.they did taste good and came with a dipping sauce I enjoyed. All in all, it was a nice lunch out, great company, but the food was nothing special. My sandwich, fries, her salad, two soft drinks came to $54 plus tip. read more

I made a reservation because I was not sure how busy they get at noon on Sunday, I also wanted to make sure to secure a table outside because it was a beautiful day. Even though my reservation was confirmed the hostess could not locate it. Luckily it wasn't that busy and we set outside. The service was very good. We had heard some good things about this place so we decided to give it a try. It's pretty casual, in fact, it wasn't quite what I expected it to be but that's a good thing, because I still found it quite enjoyable. The service was attentive and very good, with several members of the staff tending to our needs. The person at the front door was very friendly. The food and drink selection is very good. I was happy to see NA Beer on the menu. I had the Hacienda Salad and a cup of their soup du jour, which was a vegetable soup. Both were excellent and the salad was huge! I actually brought some home. Nice blend of flavors on the salad. My only observation was the particular booth we chose was quite close to the table, but we made it work. I thought we'd be able to move the table or slide the booth a smidge after the party behind us left, but everything was nailed to the floor. That's fine, it's just a bit close quarters. This restaurant has a wide variety of food options, so there should be something for everyone. I ordered the half corned beef sandwich on sourdough with a side salad. The meat was tender, plentiful, and flavorful. The salad was fresh and delicious. It was served to us quickly and our waiter took care of us throughout our lunch. The food looked so good that I started eating it right away and completely forgot to take pictures of it! We sat indoors at a comfortable booth. This is a great cafe located in a strip mall. The decor is electric for sure. The menu has a great selection for lunch. The service is spot on. Our food was served in a timely manner. This has been a long time favorite restaurant with many memories eating here and many colds healed from their tortilla soup! I had the usual tortilla soup, the chorizo pasta and strawberry salad to go. Loved every single bite and so did my guests. And the kind man threw in a delish loaf of zucchini bread, as if he knew on my face that I was returning from a funeral. What a disaster from our last visit... chicken, strawberry, blueberry salad was meh, at best... berries didn't taste fresh and the chicken was so dry it was actually inedible! This place is pretty cool. Went on a Monday night for my mom's birthday dinner and enjoyed it. It was run by a youthful staff that did a good job being hospitable. They have nightly deals too and Monday happened to be half off of beer night. Tuesday special was half off wine. The warm salads are really good. I enjoyed the shrimp salad. Really great first experience at this gem of a place! I needed somewhere with wifi and food, and am so glad I ended up here. Claudio & James both provided fantastic service, and the food was delicious. I was also pleasantly surprised to see the huge list of beverages -- including from lots of Arizona breweries! I was torn between two salads and my server Claudio recommended the fried chicken salad, which was SO GOOD. I ate every bite. Unlike most places, Eclectic actually gave me enough dressing for the whole salad, lol. I also had a red sangria that was so tasty I ended up having two. My visit lasted a bit longer than anticipated and I ended up with another server, James (after I paid & tipped Claudio, of course), who was also great & super helpful. I ordered the Chicken & Rice Soup from him. If you're a soup person this one is gooooooooood. Exceptional quality chicken and lots of it, and you can tell all the veggies were chopped fresh, not from frozen. Really good broth. It's the kind of soup i could eat often, and will definitely crave from time to time! The whole restaurant including bathrooms are CLEAN!!! What a cherished little gem! OMG I wasn't really expecting to be blown away by a salad but man was I ever. Literally it was the best salad I've ever had. I have never been big on onions and I loved them in this. It was just utterly amazing. Have I peaked your interest? That should have! I'm totally going to return. The manager, sherry came over and thanked us for coming in. Told us that all the vegetables and ingredients are fresh and nothing other than the fries are frozen. we even got zucchini bread and it was moist and yummy! The food is of exceptional quality and freshness. One might even imagine they have a garden just outside. Their Prickly Pear tea is so delightful that it is hard to resist. A thoughtful touch is that they provide a to-go cup if you have any tea remaining. The servers are exceptionally friendly, and the owner is frequently present. It is evident that they have many regular patrons, as they address them by name. The servers are also very accommodating. The interior offers seating for approximately a dozen tables. Haven't been here in a long while but ordered to go from here for lunch this week while at work, and while my taste buds were happy, I felt the effort was lacking. For one, there was no utensils or napkins with the Togo order, which I feel is standard for a to go order. Secondly, I ordered the McGina pasta, an entree I've had many times from there and found there was an abnormal amount of fatty bacon in the dish. Never have I had to spit out a bite so many times...it was weird. It was super saucy and delivered in a bag in a way that you would be holding the container sideways, causing the pasta to be slumped on one side and messy. I feel like they can do better. read more

Seat yourself cafe that actually wasn't busy at 10 am Sunday. They also have outdoor seating on the side of the building. The service was good and food came out quickly. The Monte Cristo was good but only comes with a side of fruit. The 2-egg breakfast comes with potatoes and choice of meat. The potatoes were just okay. I really enjoyed the prickly pear tea. The "side order" of biscuits and gravy was a large portion for a side, but the biscuits were too dense, flavor bland and did not seem like a sausage gravy. Recently, I visited Eclectic Cafe for lunch with a friend.The decor and atmosphere were the same as always - crowded and noisy. That's because of the excellent food they serve. Always fresh, imaginative and tasty! Even with the lunch crowd, the service was prompt and friendly. The only negative part of my most recent visit was the prices. I realize everything has gone up, etc., but I feel that a salad and a hamburger and one soft drink plus a tip at lunch should not cost over $50.00! ! My husband and I visited eclectic Café on a Friday night. There is a lot of seating and we got right in.The service was quick, genuine and efficient. We ordered a Cajun pasta and a chicken salad sandwich with clam chowder. Although this place is no-frills, the food was surprisingly really good. The clam chowder was excellent and the pasta was so good and was even better reheated the next day. There is a lot of patio seating that looked pretty comfortable and I did see some dogs out there. Eclectic Cafe is outstanding! There are a LOT of things to like about it. First of all, the Mexican dishes are great. Now, don't get all huffy, but I think this is my favorite Mexican food in Tucson. Yes, it sounds sacrilegious to some but I love every Mexican dish I've had here, and I generally settle on the Banderas enchiladas. Love the sauces (ALL of them, red, green, and white even), love the beans, and love the rice, let alone the texture of the tortillas and great tasting chicken. And they have an incredibly large selection. For example, you can have grilled chicken, Leo's chicken, and at least one other type of chicken if you'd like. Tacos are great. Chimichanga is even excellent and I'm not a huge fan of them. But it hardly stops there. Because another thing this place has going for it is the really wide selection. Mexican food, sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, salads, you name it. Even NY deli style sandwiches. But I had the turkey club last time I was here and it absolutely blew me away. I am still thinking about that sandwich! PERFECTLY toasted bread, with the toothpick and everything, delicious FRESH roasted turkey (not the deli turkey crap), excellent ham, great bacon, perfect amount of mayonnaise, cut in quarters, it was memorably excellent. And the steak fries that came with it were also great. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and you can actually taste the potato (some fries you just experience texture but not really flavor - not the case here). Service? Incredibly warm and friendly, and usually very fast. I love that they bring your check on a mobile device. Great takeout containers, too. Great VALUE, the prices are very reasonable, and you even earn points. I love that! If we lived closer, it would be a regular go-to. But when we're in the area, we make an absolute point of dining here. It never disappoints. read more

I ordered the Vegan Gazpacho with a small side of guacamole. Service was fairly fast and our waiter was nice. I wasn't sure what I was expecting but the meal wasn't bad. I felt satisfied and it carried me for a few hours. The soup was simple, light, and refreshing, especially after being under the sun for a few hours. I probably could have gotten away with the smallest size (this was the medium size) and been ok; I struggled to finish up my bowl towards the end. Guac was decent too. Overall an ok meal, at a fairly reasonable price. Definitely a good serving size and people were nice. I had way too many raw mushrooms on my salad and lots of stems of something I couldn't identify on my salad. And the carrot sticks on the side were dry. The bacon bits on my Sonoran dog were a little too crisp for me. Too hard to chew. I couldn't eat them. I loved my prickly pear ice tea. The tortilla soup was pretty good if you like salty soups. The only reason I'm giving Saturday's experience a 4-star rating is that the chicken salad was dry. I prefer light mayonnaise but this didn't taste like there was any. I've been here many moons ago but I wasn't a Yelper back then. Today I came here for lunch and I must say, this place is a very well-oiled machine. There was no wait, the servers didn't waste time, my food (Hacienda Salad with Cilantro Chicken) was scrumptious, and the manager even opened the door for me as I exited the premises and thanked me for coming! We met friends for breakfast this morning and what a delightful experience!! We found a comfortable table outside and appreciate the nice sun shades which allowed us to enjoy the outdoors without direct sun. Two of us arrived early and waited for the other two to arrive. I appreciate that we were seated immediately and ordered drinks while we waited for the rest of our party. There was no rush to order so we were able to enjoy our drinks. Tyler was our server and he was friendly and helpful. We ordered the following: 1.) chorizo omelet; 2.) zucchini French toast (only 10 orders available daily so we felt lucky); 3. Calabacitas omelet and 4.) chorizo enchiladas. Portions are generous and delicious! While we ate, Tyler was on top of our drinks! While the portion size on their half salads is large and worth the price (I couldn't finish mine!), the salad itself is nothing to write home about. We have enjoyed coming here for over a decade - convenient spot for lunch or dinner when going up Catalina Highway or Sabino Canyon. The name is very descriptive - they indeed have an eclectic menu with something for everyone. I've always enjoyed their salads, so yesterday I ordered the Topopo salad with carne asada. FWIW, as the photo shows, they do not have the high-sided taco shells that some restaurants use for taco salads. You can't see the shell until you dig down to the bottom. This was the perfect lunch portion - enough to keep me from getting hungry mid-afternoon, but didn't weigh me down too much. The carne asada was nice and flavorful. I always sit outside here, weather permitting. They have a large shaded patio and accommodate outdoor diners very well. Can't recommend this place too much - never had a bad meal here. read more

We ate at Eclectic on 7/28. I had the Shrimp Tacos, which were very good. I'd suggest you double up on the corn tortillas so the tacos don't fall apart. My wife had the Hacienda Salad - also good, but the chicken was a little dry. As usual, the portions were large enough to have plenty to take home. read more
