I live in West Seattle, but far away from Freshy's- try White Center. Stopped in on Saturday at about 1pm. One girl behind counter, running around and being very efficient, but it was super crowded. 15 minutes passed while I watched her ladle soup, assemble and hot-press sandwiches, pull espresso shots, and make change. Poor thing. I just grabbed a copy of the Stranger and read it while I waited. I'm committed, damn it. Came all that way and all. I was not disappointed. The sammiches were freaking awesome. Ordinary ingredients, but the bread was so fresh, and then toasted/pressed it was hot gooey meaty cheesy buttery goodness. I initally balked at a 6 dollar bowl of soup, that was good too. Huge shredded chunks of pork- they don't skimp on the ingredients here. Pissed I missed out on the salmon coconut curry soup by one person. I didn't have the heart to ask the poor girl to make me an espresso drink to go- she just caught a breather. I'll be back on a weekday when the hipster moms who are in between dropping their spawn off at Tae Kwon Do and a trip to Met Market/PCC aren't hogging the booths. Freshy's is one of those rare birds, a complete organism -- from its inception to its current state there's a community --, sorta like a pub or a church, but without all the pressure to get drunk or pray. Staff: After a year of frequent visits, the staff are consistently in good spirits. Their curiosity for life is infectious. Frequenters stop in to catch up and shoot the breeze, you may also find yourself pulled into some interesting conversations. Beverages: My wife tells me the coffee is Seattle par for the course, and for you non-coffee drinkers like myself, there's a stein full of iced tea, or whatever suites your fancy, like an assortment of craft beer. Food: No surprise, they make a mean bowl of soup -- often three or more a day. Sometimes with daredevil ingredients (frog leg soup anyone?), but mostly with common local fare. There's a real sense of culinary minds at play, as the soups and sandwiches rotate frequently. What else is there to say? Not much. Go forth. I love Freshys - the interior decor is eclectic filled with old school table top arcade games and organic local foods stocking the shelves. The coffee is great and their cookies and baked goods aren't too shabby. The best thing is they will make you whatever you want with what they have and breakfast available all day long. We went there for soup. They said they had last one left. So, we did not ask what kind of soup is that hoping that it would be good judging by online reviews and . But not this time! OMG, I never eat anything worst like that. It was something between homeless kitchen soup and skilly that they served in prison. Looks like they added in one dish all leftovers and boiled it. This is one of my favorite places to work outside of my home. Its small and cozy and has some comfortable seating and PLENTY of electrical outlets. Their wifi is pretty good as well. Its also very conveniently located in Admiral Junction. Occasionally it can feel like you're bothering the staff but generally they are pretty friendly. I've seen some of the comments here on their food but I haven't experienced anything bad. They like salt for sure! They are known for their soups -- they have so many unique flavors. I like their almond milk lattes. My kids love the arcade games. Sometimes the music is loud if you're trying to concentrate, but I bring my noise cancelling headphones and its all good. read more

This place is in my neighborhood, so I've dropped in for coffee or beer and WiFi occasionally over the past couple of years. The owner seems like a nice lady who works really hard to make this place successful, but the quality of the coffee and service are somewhat variable when she's not around. Over the past two years when ordering a tall or grande drip coffee I've received -- an individual coffee press (awesome!); a huge beer mug of pretty good coffee (cool!); a half cup of what could only be motor oil accented with menstrual blood (WTF). Most often drip falls somewhere on the spectrum of 'okay' but it can be a bit of a gamble. Espresso is generally very good -- I occasionally get a doppio and it's almost always really nice. They also have a pretty awesome selection of bottled beer here. But the price of beer can be similarly variable -- I've paid as much as $2 difference for the exact same can of beer within the same week depending on who's working. Is this incompetence or graft? Both prices were pretty acceptable so I didn't complain, but this is the sort of thing that rankles me. Posting prices would encourage both transparency and drinking :) This place also has an issue with seating -- there just aren't that many comfortable chairs/sofas. It's all mix/match used stuff which suits the funky independent vibe but some of those beat to hell sofas and plastic chairs are torture. At least the music is often good, so you can enjoy The Clash or The Beatles while your spine is compressed. Here in Seattle you often get an earful of "corporate coffee is bad derp derp derp" but what you get with the chains is consistent quality and pricing along with a comfortable place to sit down. read more

This place is a little hidden gem in west Seattle. I would urge anyone that wants a slower morning start and some damn good coffee and a killer legit breakfast sandwich, you need to hit this place up. Great music playing in the back ground as you watch the runners in the morning on the sidewalk. Wish I would have hung out more and not had to head to work. They have an over the top beer fridge with cans you have never heard of. Wish it was a little later and I could have enjoyed a drink. I will be back to this place soon. read more

I'm writing a book and so I'm a total internet/power hog. I've spent time in all the coffee shops in West Seattle - and several others in greater seattle, and this is by far the best. Ryan, the dude who works the joint most mornings, is an incredible presence. Focused, friendly, service-oriented and just busts it to put out great coffee and food. He really cares about the product, which you don't always see at joints like this. Micah - who works in the afternoon a lot - is hilarious and equally focused on making great food. Again, so rare to see. The food is redonkulous. Amazing breakfast sandwiches, super good specials, and they'll pretty much make anything you want within reason - they'll even riff with you to figure out something great. And they always seems stoked to do it. The atmosphere and ambiance are perfect. There is a great little food and coffee bar, and lots of great seating depending on what mood you're in. Working? Tons of workstations with plugs, always-solid internet. Chilling? Great couches and comfortable seating areas. There with your kids? They don't care if they're crawling around checking things out. I love this place - seriously. I'm geeking out on it these days. I'm shocked there isn't a line down the block. read more

I love this coffee shop so much! The staff are wonderful - the same friendly faces every time. They even have regulars that come here! The food is AMAZING, the prices are reasonable, the wifi is strong, the music is always good, and they even have a card you can buy in advance and keep in the file - like an old school bar tab! I would advise not sitting at one of the video game tables: though they seem cool, they're not very comfortable to fit your legs under. I've never had to wait for a place to sit, though, and I can often get a good table or the one booth (my friend likes the cozy couches). And if you're going to stay a while and work, bring a sweater: it's so nice and cool, it can sometimes get a little nippy. But I'd rather have it that way than the alternative! read more

I live in Seattle proper, am a freelancer and rarely venture out of my comfort zone when I need a place to drink some coffee and do some work away from home. However, I was feeling adventurous the other day and journeyed to West Seattle. There I found Freshy's. They're on a quiet part of California Ave. Their coffee is great, the barista (who I think is the owner also) is adorable and really sweet, and the place feels like a living room, but with better work-space for the laptop toters. There's even a fireplace! Their baked goods all look delectable, they make hot and cold sandwiches and soups. Not to mention they have free WiFi. I'll definitely come back here the next time I need a change of scenery, it may become my second home-away-from-home. read more

We only came in for coffee, so I can't judge the food at all, but it looked and smelled good. I got a macchiato. It's a pretty simple drink, but it was well made. The barista was incredibly nice--she made our drinks really well and took the time to talk to us about nearby hiking trails. One super cool thing about this place is the Jr. Pacman they have. I am gluten free so it was a pleasant surprise to find sandwiches with gluten free bread. I have been in a few times & honestly for a casual coffee shop, I was pleasantly surprised. I think the soups are home made as is the tuna salad. Everything I have had has been delicious. The atmosphere is casual & comfortable. I go here 5-6 times a week, so obviously I like it. Staff is awesome. Really nice and accepting of all kinds of people. They know my usual drink and sometimes start making it as soon as I walk in, which is really cool. (There was a girl there who was kind of surly but I think she left or was fired.) The internet is strong and reliable, the music is usually good, coffee's good. I don't eat there much but when I do it's at worst pretty good, at best awesome. Lot of interesting people in there too, lots of regulars, feels like a neighborhood hangout. I must have driven by the place 100 times before giving it a try, and I'm glad I finally went in there. I live in west seattle very near to Freshy's. I loved it right away. The owner is super friendly and everyone there was a "regular". There is a fireplace, cushy couches, and Pacman. It is super laid back and the music is always funky and different The sandwiches are different all the time, and the soup is excellent. I am a huge fan of the vanilla creme latte!! I go here often, and the owner is always very hospitable and helpful. If you want to feel comfortable and at home while working on your laptop (free wifi) or reading, or even bring your kids with you, this is the place to get to know the owner a bit and become a regular. read more

My favorite coffee house in West Seattle. It's a very comfortable place to hang; an authentic coffee house. Good\cool people seem to gravitate towards there. It's more like chillin at home. They play a variety of decent tunes, they have really good homemade food and their coffee always seems better than other places. It's no Starbucks so if you like fufu drinks where everything is all matchey matchey you would probably want to go to one of those corporate chain's.
