Nice, friendly service, great soups and sandwiches! Only thing that keeps it a 4 instead of a 5 is that it's usually understaffed, with only one person available, and if there are more than a few people in the establishment, it'll take a while to get your food. The wait is always worth it though! Never had a problem with parking. Good prices, good service, good food. Infrequent long wait, omnipresent self absorbed, discourteous customer(s). One other complaint, which has nothing to do with the business or it's employee's, is the inevitable customer that is writing their dissertation or epic novel or whatever, taking up one of the booths to themselves. If this is you, fellow Freshy's frequenter, know this: Sometimes a group of 4 could really use all of that real estate that you and your Macbook Pro are taking up. If there were ever a coffee shop that was comparable to the show "Cheers," Freshy's is it. The owner, Amber, is really warm and accomodating, and you are sure to see regulars hanging out there. In addition to the awesome coffee they serve (it is either Lighthouse coffee out of Fremont, or Victrolla out of Cap Hill- Can't remember), Amber is a great cook! Her soups are to die for, and they serve sandwiches and other goodies too. The staff is friendly, the frequenters are good people, and they even have live music and other fun things throughout the week. Furthermore, play an old school video game there also! Wasn't sure what to think of this joint at first. But I've firmly decided that it rocks. Initially went in to work on my laptop with a coffee in hand. But it is hard to find a comfortable seat at a table in this place --there's one booth and one table that is actually comfortable to work at, and they're usually occupied. If you're just surfing the net on your laptop and don't mind NOT working at a table, there's a better chance of finding a seat on a couch or easy chair. But what this place is really great for is food and chat. There seems to be a constant cast of characters drifting through, lots of conversation -- and tasty soup and sandwiches. There's usually 4+ soups to choose from and EVERY SINGLE one that I've tried is Delicious. And I'm a sucker for a grilled sandwich. I'm a fan. read more

I absolutely LOVE Freshys!!! The coffee is amazing, the Chai takes a extra couple of minutes but so worth it . The soups that I have tried are so yummy. Cookies, sandwiches all excellent! But oh the staff, they are the best Ryan that is there is the mornings is the most positive upbeat guy I have ever met ,never a negative word from him. He remembers what you order and exactly how you like it. He loves life and it shows thru how he treats people. I used to come here allll the time in high school. Not sure if the ownership is still the same but I remember one blonde lady always running the place by herself and she was awesome. No matter how busy it got she handled it and gave great service. I always get one of her homemade toasted sandwiches which would vary each day. I remember having one with pear and it was sooo good. When I think of a neighborhood coffeeshop, Freshy's is it. Versatile to catch up with friends, host meetings or get work done, Freshy's is relaxed and friendly. I've noticed that coffeeshops now a days are super modern and rigid, but Freshy's is the opposite. There are open spaces to sit, socialize or people watch but also quaint nooks and crannies to focus on your own work. Sandwiches are handmade to order and really good. Everything is available here or to go. The baristas will learn your name and greet you when you walk in the door. PARKING TIP: the street parking that shares Freshy's sidewalk is 1 hour between 7am-6pm (BOOOO!!). I suggest parking on the opposite side of the street or around the block by the school. read more

100% Hit or Miss. I've had incredible sandwiches and sandwiches that were basically an onion between two slices of bread. I've had great study / work sessions here. I've also had days where they were playing what sounded like "jazz + jazz = jazz" from Parks and Rec on full blast. Coffee is either incredible or terrible. Customer service is consistently subpar so don't come in with high hopes. They once took my coffee and sandwich order and then forgot to make both my sandwich and coffee. Wouldn't be a big deal but I was the only customer there at the time... and for 15 minutes after they took my initial order. Seating in comfortable. Walking into Freshy's it doesn't seem like much - part living room and part café, but it is something special. My husband Ben kept saying "it's the Central Perk of West Seattle!", which I would definitely agree with. And they let dogs inside! There was the most adorable Samoyed looking at me the whole time with his big brown eyes. So. Cute. Anyway. The breakfast sandwich (ham, sourdough, cheddar, egg) is amazing. "So fresh and so clean clean!" Metaphorically and literally. I practically spent my entire 2012 summer here and if I had the chance, I would do it again. Freshy's has something to offer to everyone. First, you will meet a diverse age set of cats here. There will be young high schoolers to older and established professionals here. I did not appreciate the differences in the age range till I moved to Berkeley. Here, people are pretty open and easy going. Micah and owner, the name of which I cannot remember, are really down to earth. You'll definitely get a treat when Micah is working because he'll blast some beyonce or some related artist. GO FEM! LOL. He cracks me up. There are some other great features too. The place is clean and has a modern feel to it. Here, you'll find couches, study and bar counters, a booth, and a huge and crazy polished study table. I'm not quite sure how much studying you can get done because the music is kinda loud, but who comes here to study? The place is more for bitter light reading. Perhaps you might be able to get some studying done if you can get passed the Jr. pacman and classic shooter arcade game they have. Oh and did I mention they have a variety of 12oz and pint-sized beers available? To make things more intimate, they also have a fire place. This place was such a staple when I lived on California last year - I would walk here many weekends in the spring and summer to get a late morning coffee. The coffee is great and I really like that they will make things how you like them. I didn't get the chance to try one of their delectable homemade quiches or soups, but they always looked amazing so I definitely plan to go back soon. On a great sunny day, we wanted to stop by to do some work before our next adventure. As soon as we got inside, we were impressed. The design, the look, the tables, and the music made it a wonderful atmosphere to sit and enjoy your work time. We decided to get some drinks. I ordered Chai latte and Brew Dr.Kombucha. The Chai tasted great, warm, and foamy. The service is amazing, as soon as we walked in we were greeted by smiley happy staff who did their best to offer us their best drinks. I have so much love for this place. Best cafe/coffeehouse/hangout spot in Seattle. Period. The hot chocolate is delish and the perfect temperature. ALL the sandwiches and soups make your tummy happy. The soup menu changes pretty much daily, and always has something unique and fresh. Great selection of offbeat beers and cider. Good prices; most food stuff is about $5 (The only thing I don't understand is why the prices aren't listed... Not a big deal since everything's usually about the same price, though posting it would help folks. However, I won't knock a star for that because their other awesomeness rocks too much.) On Wednesdays, check out Movie Nights for a laid-back blast into non-blockbuster territory (and usually a good laugh). Any other day or night of the week, you can just kick it, chat up the regulars or just hang out in front of a great soundtrack (Digable Planet on rotation? Hell yes.) Old school arcade games? Check. Fireplace? check. Also, if you are like me, and continually bewildered by "the Seattle freeze" (I'm talking about the city's weird flavor of human interaction, not the weather), then come thaw out at Freshy's. How is it possible to write a negative review about Freshy's? This place is awesome. The staff is always friendly and they are the definition of laid back. There is always pleasant music, comfortable sofas to make you feel like you are at home, a cooler of microbrews, wine and cider, old school arcade games if you feel inclined and well the food; I will save this for the next paragraph. The soups are amazing! My boyfriend's mother makes the best made-from-scratch soups you can imagine and I must say this place gives her a run for her money. I have had a Spring Asparagus soup that was amazing, the delicious chili and most recently a jalapeno bisque which was to die for! The flavors are unique and you can tell that these are made with passion. Love the variety! I also love the Turkey, Pepperjack, Pepperoncini sandwich (done panini style). So delicious - especially since they toast the bread with a hint of sea salt. In fact, no one I have visited Freshy's with has ever had a bad sandwich. They are tasty and super fresh. The sandwiches are reasonably priced and they even allow you to order half sandwiches if you prefer. The staff are so flexible at Freshy's and always aim to please. Pretty much if they have an ingredient that you want, they will add it with a smile. They are not the type to not bend of you need a substitution or have a craving. Best yet, they don't even ask you to pay until you are finished meaning you can grab drinks out of the cooler or even some of the delicious caramels in the jar. It almost gives you a sense that you are at a family member's house. This place is a gem. In fact, I just made myself hungry. I will be visiting this spot again soon to fill my cravings! read more

In all honesty, none of the pastry, coffee, soup nor sandwich I had here yesterday over my two visits to my new neighborhood coffee shop would get this remotely close to a four. I'm a drip coffee drinker, so I'm not really going to have a huge opinion on that. It is good enough for me. I do wish I could sneak in before the people in front of me ordering overly complex espresso drinks, but my timing has failed thus far. Cinnamon roll...well, it's probably outsourced, but was fairly 'just okay.' Cabbage and sausage soup of some sort was quite tasty for all but two bites. In two bites, one near the front and one near the end, I got a taste of something that seemed to think it had a disproportionately large role and hammed it up and failed on every level. Otherwise, I really liked it. Sandwich was a bit of a failure. I tried to order three or four different things, only to learn they were 86'd on at least one piece of what I wanted. Since I was hungry and didn't wish to drag out the ordering process any further than I already had after waiting an inordinate amount of time between a couple of fancy drink orders, I acquiesced to a sandwich made of whatever was left in the fridge. Wasn't a happy part of my time. So, how is it a four? It doesn't sound like a four, right? I don't know. It's a good vibe. It's comfortable. It's ultra-convenient (for me and maybe not you, but it's my rating). The music (Digable Planets? Elvis, for sure) was nice. It all just worked on some level for me that transcended the sub-par food and bev to this date. Maybe I'll eventually tire of the disappointment of the products and wander further from my front door, but for now, this seems to be a good option for me. Your mileage may vary. read more

I love Freshy's. I always make the trek here for coffee, even if it's a rough Saturday morning and other coffee spots are closer. The Americanos are tasty. Their tea selection is impressive. but the soup! The soup! Woweewow. When I need to hunker down and work, this is where I go. There's enough space to spread and be productive, and you can safely assume that Amber (the owner... I think) has whipped up a magical soup. My only complaint: why are there different prices for different sizes of Americanos? Same number of shots are water is essentially free.... I forgive them because they are adorable mugs. read more

Overall I had a really good experience. Along with my Latte I ordered a Tuna Melt; so good! Tuna mix had capers and celery and not too much mayo; topped with Cheddar and Swiss. The bread was delicious. There were also a couple other items I would love to try & excited to try them. The only thing was it took a while and was a little spendy; 16oz flavored Latte and Sandwich with tip about $12 - but very tasty so I would say worth it. I live in West Seattle and frequent all the coffee shops and Freshy's is simply okay. The space is small and dark, though it has a lot of seating options - on stools on a bar along the front window, at the food counter, couches, a restaurant style booth, etc. However I don't find the atmosphere great if I want to get some work done on my computer. The music is loud and if you are there during the week it gets overrun with teenagers from the high school right across the street. The baristas/servers are really nice and friendly, but they tend to work at a very leisurely pace while talking to each other or their friends that hang out at the counter. They seem to have high turnover too as it usually appears that one person is training another. read more

Monday is a bit tough to find a reasonably priced lunch in this area, so I stopped into Freshy's. Arrived around 12:10 and there was only two people in front of me. First thing I noticed was their menus - one for sandwiches and one for coffee drinks. The coffee drinks menu had "Prices have been changed" written across - curious as too how much. And no price on the sandwich menu - guess I should have asked - for my average-ish (a touch small) sized sammy and a kombucha (no sides) it was almost $14. I ordered the ham, cheddar, and horseradish. It took at least 15 minutes to get the sandwich served hot - couple slices of ham, some cheddar, on good bread with some big salt flakes sprinkled on top. The bread had a nice chew to it - but I couldn't notice anything with the tears streaming down my cheeks. Probably at least a tablespoon of horseradish smeared on it. I was either expecting a moderate amount of horsey, or a horsey-mayo spread. I told the cook that it was rather hot and he told me their horseradish was super hot then bragged about slathering on so much that even his toughest guest struggled with it. I had to open up the other half to scrape the excess horsey off and then it was still rather sinus clearing. I know, I should have probably sent it back, but that's pretty confrontational for Seattle. And then I over heard someone asking about soup - wish I had seen it advertised on their menu somewhere.... If I'm over there and the swinery is closed I may give them a second chance, I enjoyed the vibe and sense potential. read more

This is my favorite coffee shop in Seattle! Great coffee at a decent price, AMAZING food that the owner makes from whatever awesome organic produce she has on hand (she'll even take requests!), and perfect ambience. I was working from home for about six months and I'd say Freshy's was my "office" about 60% of the time. The barristas get to know your drink order quickly if you're a regular, but aren't snobby if you're new. I recommend heading to West Seattle and checking it out! read more

Very disappointed with the service I received here. Went in for the first time hoping for a good latte and satisfying breakfast. My latte was piping hot but the flavor wasn't bad after it cooled. I enjoyed the pastries I purchased while I waited for my food. The kicker was when the cook angrily asked us if the food was to go, then slammed a half wrapped sandwich down on the table without a word. I can't comment on the food quality because I didn't even bother to get mine. Clearly we were a burden and I wasn't comfortable being there any longer. read more

This place is adorable on the inside. Mismatched furniture, board game and classic video games both as decoration and for entertainment. Pretty great food as well. You can customize a sandwich from their menu and order it hot or cold. Some fancier coffee drinks as well. The place also seemed to allowed dogs which can make or break a place for me. I live in West Seattle, but far away from Freshy's- try White Center. Stopped in on Saturday at about 1pm. One girl behind counter, running around and being very efficient, but it was super crowded. 15 minutes passed while I watched her ladle soup, assemble and hot-press sandwiches, pull espresso shots, and make change. Poor thing. I just grabbed a copy of the Stranger and read it while I waited. I'm committed, damn it. Came all that way and all. I was not disappointed. The sammiches were freaking awesome. Ordinary ingredients, but the bread was so fresh, and then toasted/pressed it was hot gooey meaty cheesy buttery goodness. I initally balked at a 6 dollar bowl of soup, that was good too. Huge shredded chunks of pork- they don't skimp on the ingredients here. Pissed I missed out on the salmon coconut curry soup by one person. I didn't have the heart to ask the poor girl to make me an espresso drink to go- she just caught a breather. I'll be back on a weekday when the hipster moms who are in between dropping their spawn off at Tae Kwon Do and a trip to Met Market/PCC aren't hogging the booths.
